00:00A U.S. State Department spokesperson says the country strongly objects to sanctions that China has announced it would slap on 20 U.S. defense companies over arm sales to Taiwan.
00:12China's foreign ministry made the announcement on Friday saying it would freeze assets the companies holding China and prohibit Chinese organizations from doing business with them.
00:21It urged the U.S. to stop its efforts to arm Taiwan. This comes after the Trump administration approved its largest arm sales to Taiwan in history worth more than 10 billion U.S. dollars.
00:34In response to the sanctions, a U.S. State Department spokesperson said the U.S. provides Taiwan with the arms necessary to make sure it can defend itself as it is bound by law to do so.
00:45It urged Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic and economic pressure against Taiwan and instead engage in dialogue.
