00:12The Pentagon says the sale strengthens Taiwan's ability to respond to current and emerging threats.
00:19The parts are intended to support the operational readiness of Taiwan's fleets.
00:24Although Washington maintains formal diplomatic ties with Beijing,
00:27it continues to keep unofficial relations with Taiwan and remains the island's main source of defense equipment.
00:34Under U.S. law, Washington is also required to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself.
00:40Taiwan's presidential office thanked the United States for sustaining regular arms sales,
00:45saying the latest deal would strengthen the island's defense capabilities and overall resilience.
00:50It added that the sale would enhance Taiwan's ability to respond to China's continued gray zone activities.
