Seth and Sean dive into the question of the day with Reggie and Lopez by talking about the last time they went "full Karen."
Transcript
00:00So what's the question of the day, fellas?
00:02All right, so I'm assuming you're very aware of Eme Adoka last night.
00:06We played it a couple times.
00:08Played it in headlines and played it in the petty cast.
00:11Oh, nice.
00:11Yeah, yeah.
00:12When was the time you went full Karen?
00:16Like you went full Karen on something or someone?
00:19I did.
00:19Well, I did one that I knew was going to cost me financially,
00:22but I was at a point in my career where I just,
00:25after my 10th season and I'd been injured,
00:27I told Gary Kubiak about some issues that I felt he had with his staff.
00:33Oh, nice.
00:33And I'm like, and in my mind, I'm like,
00:35either this guy's going to get fired or I am.
00:37And it was me.
00:40Did you, did you like go off off?
00:42I didn't know.
00:43I did it calm, cool and collected,
00:45but I just basically said there were a couple of things that I just really
00:48thought were kind of being operated Bush league.
00:51And, and I mean, and he listened and everything.
00:53I wasn't just, you know, flipping out about it or anything.
00:55I just flat and, and I figured it was the,
00:58he's either going to fire this guy who I don't think is going to get fired or
01:01I'm going, I wasn't trying to get the guy fired.
01:03I was just being honest about this is, yeah.
01:05I don't feel it.
01:06Basically.
01:06I don't feel like playing football in this situation.
01:09Did you end up being right about that?
01:11Oh, a hundred percent.
01:12A million percent.
01:13I know who you're talking about.
01:13Four hundred and eighty seven thousand percent.
01:15Yeah.
01:16Was it cathartic?
01:16I know who you're talking about.
01:18Or did you feel like you didn't get your money's worth?
01:19No, it wasn't.
01:20No, it was just the reality of the situation.
01:22I was like, I was at the spot where like, I'm not going to do, like, I just, I can't,
01:26I'm not going to like keep my mouth shut and be a good soldier and everything through
01:30this and watch all this happen.
01:32Yeah.
01:33Like I just, it's not, it's not the right way to operate a football team or, or to be a human
01:37being.
01:37I went off.
01:39When, when were plasma TVs becoming all the rage?
01:42Oh, early nineties, early two thousands.
01:44No, late, late nineties, early two thousands.
01:45Late nineties.
01:46Yeah.
01:46Cause it was a, it was a, I won one for a sales contest and that would have been.
01:51And they were expensive.
01:52If you recall.
01:52Really heavy.
01:53They were really heavy and really expensive.
01:55Yeah.
01:56And I bought a plasma TV at Best Buy.
01:58Okay.
01:58And it was right around Christmas time.
02:00Yeah.
02:00I remember cause I wanted to watch the bowl game, whatever.
02:02And I opened it up, set it up.
02:05And there's a big, that big line across the top.
02:08The, the pixels were all broken across.
02:10Oh no.
02:10Yeah.
02:11Yeah.
02:11Yeah.
02:11And I forget what I pay, but it was at the time, it's not like TVs now where you can buy
02:14them for a nickel, you know, but.
02:16Well, it was probably several thousand dollars.
02:17Yeah.
02:17And so I went back to Best Buy, like to return this, you know, and I'm not a big yeller and
02:23screamer.
02:23As you guys know, the guy goes, well, no, sir, that's either your fault or the, uh, the packing
02:29because those are packed very carefully.
02:30So you're gonna have to take it up with Samsung or Sony or whomever.
02:33Oh my God.
02:34And I went off cause that was a big investment for me and I was ready for my bowl games.
02:40Yeah.
02:41And, and I, I, to the point where I actually was faced almost nose to nose with this guy.
02:46Oh no.
02:46And I even pulled out the, I'm not leaving without you replacing this TV.
02:50Yeah.
02:50There was a printer box.
02:52And this is what my wife still laughs about.
02:53Cause she was just kind of wandering, looking up at the sky and like, Oh no.
02:56Yeah.
02:57I would also.
02:58I don't know.
02:59I don't know that man.
03:00There was a printer, but some printers on the side of where he was standing.
03:04Yeah.
03:05I sat on them and crossed my legs and I said, I'm not leaving until the, you were risking
03:10if you had squished those printers in some fashion, you were looking at an even bigger
03:14tab and a long story short.
03:16Yeah.
03:16I need to know how this ends.
03:17I got my plasma TV.
03:18He, he finally turned to a guy and said, just go get him one.
03:21This was the manager.
03:22This was a good 20, 30 minutes.
03:24This was the manager.
03:24Okay.
03:25I was like, cause I, I was like, where's the escalation?
03:28I feel like I missed the escalation.
03:29No, no.
03:29I went.
03:29Those early plans were expensive, man.
03:31Yeah.
03:31It was like 20, 30 minutes of just going back and forth.
03:34I was full Karen.
03:35In this question of the day, the word you are using the word Karen in the question.
03:39Like when was the last time you Karen'd?
03:41Like, see, I don't think, I think Karen to me is when you're being unreasonable.
03:45That's true.
03:45Yeah.
03:46I don't think you're being unreasonable in that situation.
03:47Well, I don't think, I don't think Amy Adoka was being unreasonable, but he went full Karen.
03:52And it's a phenomenal question of the day.
03:54I guess it's like, when was the last time you raised this thing?
03:56Yeah.
03:57Yeah.
03:57Yeah.
03:57Yeah.
03:57Yeah.
03:57No, but that's the, but right, right, right.
04:00Cause mine, Figgy brought mine up to me.
04:02You were thought of one, didn't you?
04:04I was at your ass.
04:05Oh yeah.
04:05Go ahead.
04:06Mine.
04:07I've told on this show before, it was when Amy and I had our favorite seats at the Astros game
04:12a couple of summers ago.
04:13It was during the blistering heat of summer and, um, but we were indoors.
04:17And we've sat, we like to sit in the front row overlooking the Astros bullpen.
04:21We like those seats.
04:23Um, there were a few empty seats next to us.
04:25Yeah.
04:25A lot of kids come down to those seats during the game at some point with their glove or
04:30trying to get a ball or whatever, which I think is cool.
04:32Like knock yourself out.
04:34And, and I know those aren't their seats, but these two kids who were right at that age where
04:40they were right at that in between phase where they were starting to sweat and stink,
04:44but their parents hadn't educated them on full hygiene yet.
04:46And deodorant.
04:47They stunk.
04:49These two kids came down and they stunk.
04:52They smelled.
04:52A portal that would have been an improvement over these kids.
04:55And, and, and Amy and I, we, we lasted about 30 seconds and we said, we got to get these
05:00kids out of here.
05:00They aren't their seat.
05:01If they were their seats and I would have just dealt with it.
05:03Yeah.
05:03It wasn't their seats.
05:04They were coming down from sitting 10 rows up to get a baseball.
05:07And I said, uh, uh, 10 rows up wasn't downwind.
05:14No, it's indoors.
05:15I don't know which way the air conditioner was blowing, but no, we went and moved those kids.
05:18So yeah, I guess that would be the closest thing I have to it.
05:21Oh, which one, what me, I was thinking about, I was at a birthday party once for somebody
05:26I didn't know, uh, so I was a younger man and, uh, like it was when I was still playing
05:30in the NFL and I was, uh, you know, that was, there was like a buffet with a bunch of
05:35food out and everything.
05:36I was eating quite a bunch of it.
05:38And, uh, and at one point, one of the, uh, one of the, some woman came up to me and
05:43was like, Hey, you know, these need to last forever.
05:45And probably specifically because she had a good point, I went off.
05:52Hold on.
05:53Was she like one of the mothers of the, what kind of birthday party?
05:56I was like in my twenties.
05:58It wasn't, no, no, no.
05:58It wasn't like a kid's birthday party.
06:00It was like a big drunken affair.
06:02Got you.
06:02Got you.
06:03Got you.
06:03Okay.
06:04That might have contributed.
06:05Sir, you're eating too much.
06:07Yeah.
06:07Yeah.
06:08Yeah.
06:08And you went off.
06:10Oh yeah.
06:11But it was one of those things.
06:12You know why I was pissed though?
06:13It was because they had a jar basically to help pay for it and everything.
06:16And like, and I didn't know anybody.
06:17So when I first got there, I'd throw a hundred in it, you know, kind of feeling like, all
06:21right.
06:22I saw it in the moment.
06:23I was like, Hey, I paid for this.
06:25You go, go see the, I wanted to be like, go see how many hundreds are in the jar there
06:30and see how many people actually contributed.
06:32Cheap bastards.
06:32Get your ass out of my face and let me eat these, these roll ups.
06:36You needed to do the George Costanza where you took your hundred out and put it back in
06:39in her view, in her vision.
06:40Oh yeah.
06:41She can see it.
06:41She can see it.
06:42You're going to go.
06:43No fear of, fear of looking like that guy with like, if you got a video of it on social
06:48media or something, it was one time I told you, Sean, the story.
06:50I was in the workout room in my apartment building and these kids came in.
06:54They were like 12 years old.
06:55It was just me in there.
06:56And I actually like somebody else let them in and they, and they're, they're like 12
07:01years old.
07:02They're all in their socks and they start running on the treadmill, like, like seeing who could
07:07run the fastest and their socks are coming loose and everything.
07:10And I'm like, I don't want to look like the guy that booted the kids out of the facility.
07:16You actually are like residents in the facility.
07:19But I was, and I was starting to get worried about them and it ended to the point where I
07:23was like, all right, I'm just going to get out of here.
07:24Like, I just don't want to be in the room when this tragedy, but then as I'm leaving,
07:28I'm like, I can't, I can't sit here and watch these kids do this.
07:31So I told them, I was like, guys, I'm really sorry.
07:33But like the rules are that if you're, unless you're 18, you got to have an adult in here
07:37and I'm leaving.
07:38So I just gotta, I gotta ask you guys to come out with me.
07:40And they were, they were cool about it, but it was, um, I was so, I was just, because,
07:47because of the chance of one phone being on me and it looking like, look at this dude
07:53kicking these kids out of the, out of the facility because he didn't think they belonged.
07:57I think you made the right decision.
07:58Cause you definitely don't want to be the adult at the scene of a crime where somebody else's
08:01kid gets hurt.
08:02As I was right.
08:03And then all of a sudden I'm like, yeah, why didn't you do anything?
08:07No, it's funny.
08:08You say that about a gym.
08:09The thing that pushes me, oh, by the way, you're listening to KLT AM, KLT FM, HD2, Houston
08:13and Odyssey sports station.
08:14And you're listening to crosstalk brought to you by DNM auto leasing.
08:18The thing that you bring up a gym, this is probably the thing that pushes me closest
08:22to Karen moment, but I stopped short is when people are on the machines and they're talking
08:29on their, they're talking on their phone with their AirPods in.
08:33They're having like, or just sitting on the weight bench conversations and you're trying
08:36to get into the, into that.
08:38Take it outside, man.
08:39I don't want to listen to your conversation or just a minute.
08:41And I just, I don't know how you sit down on an airplane and open up your tablet and
08:47just start playing it with the volume up.
08:49Yeah.
08:51I don't know.
08:52I wish I could be like that.
08:55I wish I could be like that.
08:57What kind of animal does that to have, like just to have zero care in the world about who's,
09:03who's listening to, you know, your, your, your, your, your Christmas vacation player.
09:08We say all this to say great topic, fellas.
09:10Thanks, man.
09:10Appreciate it.
09:11Great topic.
