Seth and Sean react to others being petty and get petty themselves. First hearing Rockets Coach Ime Udoka calling out the refs from last night in a way that is sure to get him a call from the league office at the very least.

00:00All right, PettyCast time. Text in 713-572-4610 if you've got anything you're petty about.
00:08It's either stuff that Seth and I are petty about or audio of people who are in a petty mode.
00:12This is the most recent audio. This just happened last night.
00:16With Vanessa Richardson providing this audio.
00:18Yeah, yeah. So Vanessa is asking the questions here to Ime Udoka, the Rockets head coach.
00:24If you missed it, the Rockets lost in overtime last night to the Denver Nuggets, 128-125.
00:31And there were a couple really ticky-tack calls.
00:34One late in overtime. The big one, though, was late in regulation.
00:38The Rockets had a 117-116 lead with under five seconds to go.
00:43The Nuggets were inbounding the basketball.
00:45And before the ball was inbounded, Aman Thompson gets called for an away-from-the-ball foul
00:49that was very, very marginal.
00:52Feet-crossed-up situation.
00:54Fell down, yeah.
00:56Ime Udoka was having none of this.
00:58Just in general, I think it's a poorly officiated game I've seen in a long time.
01:03Two have no business being out there, and the crew chief is acting starstruck.
01:06So you're seeing all kinds of inconsistent calls.
01:11And I'm sure we should have got a few more ticks.
01:14That is...
01:14What do you say to your team when a game is being called the way that it was tonight?
01:20Keep being who we are.
01:21We're not going to adjust to poorly, poor officials.
01:25So we're going to do what we do, and hopefully they can adjust and call it the right way.
01:30You get extra credit for being petty knowing that you're going to get fined heavily for it.
01:35Yeah.
01:35That's about as vicious a criticism of the officials as you'll ever hear.
01:41He didn't do it with a loud voice or with, you know, he said it kind of matter-of-factly.
01:47He just flat out said that the crew didn't belong out there, and the crew chief was starstruck.
01:52He was a jock sniffer.
01:53That's really...
01:55I mean, guys will get fined just for criticizing the officials and just saying they thought
01:59that they did a bad job of it or anything.
02:03That was a flat-out insult.
02:04Yeah.
02:04That's not how we...
02:06That is assumed you disagree with the call.
02:10This is the next level of...
02:12These guys don't belong out there.
02:13Yeah.
02:13Yeah.
02:14Yeah.
02:14Yeah.
02:14That's good.
02:15That's petty.
02:16It's petty.
02:16I also wonder, though, too, that's the kind of one where I think most officials, you'd like
02:20to think they're pretty good at just understanding that, yeah, the guys are going to criticize.
02:24They're going to be angry and everything.
02:25But that might rise above.
02:28That might seep into some of the play calling down the road.
02:31We've got to track the next time they get this crew, the Rockets, and see what the game's
02:35called like.
02:36All right.
02:36So that was E-Mail with Doka last night.
02:38This was Todd Bowles.
02:40This is the opposite of E-Mail with Doka kind of just cruelly and rationally making
02:45an insult.
02:46This is the exact opposite.
02:48The volume is the same as E-Mail, but boy, it is curse-laden here.
02:51This is Todd Bowles after his team lost to Atlanta on Thursday night football last week.
02:57It's inexcusable.
02:58You don't make excuses.
02:59You've got to f***ing care enough where the s*** hurts.
03:03You've got to f***ing care enough where the s*** hurts.
03:06It's got to f***ing mean something to you.
03:08It's more than a job.
03:09It's your f***ing livelihood.
03:11How well do you know your job?
03:12How well can you do your job?
03:13Well, you can't sugarcoat that s***.
03:15It was in the f***ing excusable, and there's no f***ing answer for it.
03:19There's no excuse for it.
03:20That's what you tell them in the locker room.
03:22Look in the f***ing mirror.
03:23Yeah.
03:26Me calling out the whole team.
03:28He's not like that, man.
03:31Not at the podium.
03:32No, no, no, no, no.
03:35Gosh.
03:35The part about that is, I mean, that's just calling your team out in extreme way, just
03:41flat out saying that there's just too many guys out there that flat out don't care.
03:45And they're coming off of, I mean, they lost to the Saints the week before.
03:49Yeah.
03:50Barely beat their, they're the one team that hasn't scored 30 or more points versus the
03:54Cardinals in recent memory.
03:55Yeah, that's something too.
03:56And then they got, they got destroyed by the Rams.
03:58It's been the, the Bucs, the Texans caught a bad break catching the Bucs when they did
04:04because they've fallen apart.
04:05Yeah.
04:05I know they've had, they've had good luck.
04:07They've had bad luck in some of the scheduling.
04:08They had some really good luck with some of the other scheduling.
04:11And yet, this was in first place because the Panthers lost to those very same Saints
04:16on Sunday.
04:17Tampa Bay at seven and seven.
04:19First place in the NFC South.
04:21I think Tyler Shuck has been one of the nice kind of underrated fun stories.
04:25He's killing my under five and a half wins ticket right now.
04:29Oh yeah.
04:29They're at four and 10, but boy, they have an easy, they play the Jets.
04:32Oh.
04:33They play the Falcons again.
04:36They, they've got a really easy schedule.
04:38Yeah.
04:38The Saints might win seven games this year with Tyler Shuck at quarterback.
04:42Good job by Kellen Moore.
04:44So Tampa Bay.
04:44Yeah.
04:45The most annoyingly mismatched name and pronunciation since Brett Favre and a quarterback.
04:51Oh, Shuck.
04:52Yeah.
04:53Yeah.
04:53It's like, tell me why this is Shuck.
04:55Why is it not Shuck?
04:57Tell me what, I don't even care.
04:58Shuck.
04:59Whatever country Shuck comes from, that name, I don't think they pronounce it that way in
05:03that language.
05:03They shouldn't.
05:04It's bogus, man.
05:05They shouldn't.
05:07Text message.
05:07Petty about the Texans getting the 425 Saturday game every playoffs, hoping that wins, that
05:13with lack of marquee teams, players plus Texans hype that changes that start time.
05:18If the Texans, I'll tell you this, if the Texans are a wild card team, they will not be playing
05:21at 330 on Saturday because they're going to be playing New England unless it's against
05:25Jacksonville.
05:26And then it's definitely 330 on Saturday.
05:29But I think the Tex, I think there's a decent chance that the Texans are not in that spot
05:34this year because of the reasons the Texter cites.
05:36All right, this is Brett Yormack.
05:39He's the commissioner of the Big 12.
05:42This was after the playoff brackets came out last weekend.
05:46And he goes after the athletic director at Notre Dame, Pete Bevilacqua, in a way that
05:51you don't hear conference commissioners often do.
05:54I will say this, and I'm a little outspoken about it.
05:58I don't like how Notre Dame's reacted to it.
06:01So, okay, I think Pete's, his behavior has been egregious.
06:05It's been egregious going after him, Phyllis, when they saved Notre Dame during COVID.
06:11We all knew, and it was very transparent, Hunter was very transparent about it, the chair,
06:16that as Notre Dame and Miami got closer together, head-to-head would be a factor.
06:22Okay?
06:22BYU lost.
06:24They came closer together, head-to-head, and made a difference in that decision.
06:28So I think he is totally out of bounds in his approach.
06:32And if he was in the room, I'd tell him the same thing.
06:34I'd tell it to his face, is what he just said.
06:37Say it to his face.
06:38Yeah.
06:39Well, if he were here, I would.
06:40Yeah.
06:41But he's not, so I'm saying it here.
06:42Right.
06:43Wait, is he over there?
06:44Oh, no, he's not.
06:45So I would totally say it.
06:46I'm sure it'll wind up in his face at some point on a phone.
06:49At some point, if I'm passing by him on a moving walkway at the airport, I will totally
06:55give him a dirty look.
06:56Believe you me.
06:57Right.
06:58That's when you know somebody's serious.
06:59Because we're going the opposite ways, yeah.
07:01Yeah, I agree with a lot of what he said there.
07:04I was like, you know what?
07:05Notre Dame, you don't want head-to-head to be a factor?
07:07Then if you'd beat Miami, it wouldn't have been.
07:09You know my feeling on that.
07:10I don't have a problem with head-to-head being a factor.
07:12I have a problem with it not being a factor for six weeks, and then all of a sudden it
07:16becomes a factor.
07:16It was a factor, but it's not as much of a factor.
07:19And it grew in size.
07:21Yeah.
07:21Like a tumor, Sean.
07:22Yeah, yeah.
07:23Like a tumor.
07:25So who's petty about Notre Dame?
07:26Not all tumors are bad.
07:27Who's more petty?
07:28If it's a tumor in your enemy.
07:29Who's more petty?
07:31Who's more petty?
07:31Fair.
07:32Who's more petty about Notre Dame?
07:34Brett Yormack or Mike Wilbon, Northwestern graduate?
07:37How hypocritical is Notre Dame?
07:39Let me, the ACC, as long as I get my paycheck and then behave like this.
07:46To be fair.
07:47Notre Dame.
07:47To be fair, you've hated Notre Dame your whole life.
07:49And you loved them.
07:50And you stumped for them.
07:51I admit to hate them.
07:53Now I hate them today.
07:54I'm glad they're home.
07:55I'm glad they're going nowhere.
07:57No playoff.
07:58The show is going to end.
07:59We're not doing any more stories.
08:01Get out.
08:01Get out, Notre Dame.
08:02Because it's going on and on and on.
08:03Please.
08:03You hate them.
08:04I do hate them.
08:05Go ahead.
08:05Today more than ever.
08:06Read.
08:07And I got reason.
08:08Read.
08:08And I got support.
08:09Read.
08:09Huh?
08:10Hate Notre Dame.
08:11Was that Wilbon?
08:12Yeah.
08:12Boom.
08:13Ben, was that Wilbon saying get out?
08:15Or did you drop Vandermeer in there?
08:17No, that was Mike.
08:18That was Wilbon saying.
08:19He sounded exactly like Vandermeer.
08:20Stealing Vandermeer.
08:21He's gimmick.
08:22Yeah.
08:22Yeah.
08:23We say it's his gimmick.
08:24He's only said it once.
08:25That's okay.
08:26We're going to make it into his gimmick.
08:28Yeah.
08:29Yeah.
08:30I think that, look, it's, there is such an element, Sean.
08:33I'll try to explain it to you from the common folks perspective.
08:36As you sit up there on your lofty choosing whether to go to bowl game or not.
08:40There is a sense of entitlement that you see with Notre Dame in that the classic, like,
08:48well, I'll take, I'll take my fancy leather ball.
08:52Once, well, it was once a new rock.
08:55He actually used, carried this in his, in his, in his rucksack for three years at one
09:01point.
09:01Uh, I'm going to take this ball and go home.
09:03Yep.
09:04We're not putting money in ESPN's pockets.
09:06Sorry.
09:07Sorry.
09:07No bowl game for us.
09:09We're going to hang out with our families at Christmas time.
09:11Yeah.
09:11I think most players are like, Oh no, I don't get to practice for three extra weeks and then
09:16go to a margarine bowl somewhere.
09:18Okay.
09:18And nowadays these guys get paid.
09:20So it's like, Oh, you want free labor for this game.
09:22Um, you know, I'm sorry.
09:24I got to redo my NIL deal.
09:26So anyways, that'll be the last that we hear of Notre Dame pettiness.
09:29Those have been sitting in the, uh, in the, uh, the rundown for a couple of weeks.
09:33Okay.
09:33Here's Dave Portnoy who, um, when the Patriots were up 21, Dave Portnoy founder of Barstool,
09:39which was founded of course in the Boston area, kind of rode the backs of those new England
09:44Patriots for low, those many years, um, Patriots up 21, nothing, uh, against the bills
09:52on Sunday and Dave Portnoy calls, calls it.
09:55He's caught.
09:55If he were in the ambulance, he'd say, give me the time.
09:58This is the death of the Buffalo bills.
10:00We are destroying this team.
10:03We are destroying this team.
10:06Underdog.
10:07We were underdogs going to this game.
10:08I don't want to get too cocky.
10:10I don't want to get too loud, but nobody knows championship football more than this guy,
10:15more than these fans.
10:17I've seen it.
10:18I have six rings and you're telling me Buffalo's better.
10:22You're telling us, this is our division.
10:24This is our league.
10:26And we're back.
10:27We're not beating this team.
10:29We're demolishing this team.
10:31And seriously, Buffalo, I feel bad.
10:34I feel bad for the people of Buffalo.
10:35You've waited.
10:36You've been on the doorstep.
10:37Josh Allen, great guy.
10:39It's over.
10:41Your little, your little, whatever that was, it's over.
10:44The champs are here.
10:46Final score, Buffalo 35, New England 31.
10:52Like 27% of the replies to that are probably that aged poorly, something like that.
10:57Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:58Boy, that's masterful trolling.
11:00Him saying, I have six rings.
11:02I, even as I know that he's trolling, I, it pissed me off.
11:05Uh, yeah, that because, because we know this is how you know that barstool has become mainstream
11:10media because the, the annoying thing about new England media forever was during that super
11:14bowl run, the media up there would act like they genuinely understood ball better than
11:20the common folk out there because they had been witness to all of this.
11:24Now they're back.
11:24And they just know the way that championship football works and how it looks and everything.
11:29So, uh, yeah, that him saying, I have six rings.
11:33Yeah.
11:33Yeah.
11:35Well, even as I know what he's trying to do to me, it's, it's working.
11:38Well, he ended up having a bad day.
11:40Right.
11:40Yeah.
11:41No, yeah.
11:41Yeah.
11:42We wouldn't be playing this if they had won the game.
11:43Right, right, right.
11:44If Portnoy had won the game, well, we wouldn't be talking about how he, yeah.
11:48Portnoy had won it, right.
11:49How he destroyed the Buffalo.
11:50Right, right, right.
11:51How he had four touchdowns in that game.
11:53Yes.
11:54Yes.
11:54All right.
11:55Last one.
11:55No, but talk about, man, they've had an easy schedule.
11:58It's been a talking point all year long, except they get a lot of style points, but it just,
12:02there's not really any, you can't look at Drake May and say, oh yeah, it's, it's kind of like CJ's
12:09had some awesome games versus some of the lesser defenses this year.
12:12And I think we appropriately in Houston say, okay, this is good.
12:16This is what you should do.
12:17You guys got to do it versus the really good defenses.
12:20That's been this Patriots entire season.
12:22This, okay.
12:23This, this is why the Texans have to get the three seed.
12:26This is a year where the three seed could host the AFC title game.
12:29Yeah, it could.
12:31Denver and Denver and New England are both good teams, but they are ripe to be upset by Buffalo
12:38as a wild card team or the Chargers as a wild card team.
12:42Or, you know, even if, you know, I don't know who else can sneak in the back there, but I
12:46think this is a, you know, if Jacksonville would be falling to a six or a seven seed in
12:51that scenario, if the Texans were to take over the division, do I feel great about Trevor
12:55Lawrence going up to Denver and New England and winning a game?
12:58No.
12:58But could he do it?
12:59This version?
13:00Absolutely.
13:00He could.
13:01Yeah.
13:01Josh Allen absolutely could.
13:03That's why winning the division.
13:04Sure.
13:05The AFC is, is all jumbled up this year and you, a wild card team could go to the Super
13:09bowl, but boy, if you get the three seed, you're going to host at least one game and
13:14you, you could end up hosting the next two.
13:16I'll say, I mean, and this is where, with the Patriots, if Texans ended up playing the
13:20Patriots, the only bonafide really good defense they've played this year is the Cleveland
13:25Browns.
13:25Yeah.
13:26And they won that game, scored 30 plus points or whatever, but it's still, it's the Browns
13:30and that's their only test all season long in terms of, they haven't faced the Rams.
13:34They haven't faced the Seahawks.
13:35They haven't had to do any of this.
13:37And yet Drake may is being crowned the next Tom Brady.
13:40Yep.
13:41All right.
13:41Last one, Isaiah Thomas, he was on a podcast and, uh, you know, some of my favorite pettiness
13:46that is old guy, basketball player, pettiness.
13:49It's the best.
13:49It's pretty good.
13:50It's right up there with college baseball coach during the college playoff.
13:54That's a good one too.
13:55Isaiah Thomas said that this, this NBA that we're watching now, it sucks.
13:59We never ran, ran Boston's three, five, you know, with, we, we never played like that.
14:05We had our own style.
14:07When you look at the five out style right now, Brendan is really only one play.
14:13That's high screen and roll.
14:15Yes.
14:16High screen and roll.
14:17And then you got to be good enough to dribble, drive, draw somebody and kick it to the three
14:22point line.
14:23It, it, it, it, they eat the same, they talk the same, their cultures are the same, their
14:32language are the same, they dress the same, they fly out at the same, they wear the same
14:40clothes.
14:41And how about this?
14:42When you look at the NBA right now, everybody is the same size and the same body type.
14:48Same, same, same, same, same, same.
14:52So everybody, I guess it's six, eight wing guy, three and D. I think that's what he's
14:58saying.
14:59That's right.
14:59I always think that's the biggest issue that Rockets have right now is Reed Shepard and
15:03Alper and Shang-Goon.
15:04They're exactly the same size.
15:06Yeah.
15:06Like they're exactly the same.
15:07I can never tell them apart.
15:08He's talking about from team to team, you know, similar size and everything.
15:10And I don't like, he's, he's our age, right?
15:14A little bit older.
15:15He's a, he's a little older.
15:17Yeah.
15:17And obviously look, I'm just trying to say, like, would we put him in the same category?
15:22I guess.
15:23Um, uh, you know, he's, he's older than like, he's in a different generation.
15:27He's definitely not.
15:28Yeah.
15:28He's, he's an older, he's a boomer.
15:30Now we're gen X.
15:31He's a boomer.
15:32Yeah.
15:32Um, but I like with NBA basketball, it's so much like music.
15:38It's whatever was, would go, it was going on when you were in your early twenties.
15:42That's the best.
15:43That's the only, that was the last time they made any good music.
15:45That's a good way to put it.
15:46Nope.
15:46They have, nope.
15:47There's never been NBA basketball or music made as good as when I was 22 years old.
15:52Yep.
