THE GREAT ANIMAL MIGRATIONS
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
A dramatic moment from the Great Migration shows herds gathering at the river’s edge, hesitating before making a dangerous crossing.
Sohail Suleman also nicknamed Sully, a private safari guide and wildlife photographer who lives in the Maasai Mara, Kenya, filmed the footage in the Maasai Mara National Reserve during peak migration season.
Sully has witnessed over 300 river crossings, including: Zebras, wildebeests, buffalo, and hippos crowd the riverbanks on this occasion, all driven by the search for fresh grazing.
Instinct takes over. One animal commits. The rest follow.
Each crossing is tense, unpredictable, and completely unscripted.
In one clip, the buffalo are in the water surrounded by lions, awaiting to make their move.
Sully said: “The zebras were gathering at the river’s edge, deciding whether it was safe to cross.
“They were trying to reach better grazing, but the Mara River always forces hesitation.
“As a guide, you learn to read the small cues - who’s nervous and who might lead.
“Once the first animal commits, everything changes.
“That uncertainty is what makes every crossing unique. It never plays out the same way twice.
“I’ve guided through 11 migration seasons and witnessed around 300 river crossings.
“There are zebras, wildebeests, buffalo, and hippos all moving together.
“It’s instinctive, risky, and completely real.”

00:00So good morning guys, Sully here. So it is a beautiful morning today with clear skies and today we're going to be going off on a game drive.
00:09But, you know, in our culture in Massa, we normally feel a lot of chaos than in the sun.
00:14Oh, Sully, can you see that? Yeah, I can see it really clearly.
00:17So you can even see the dust in the air as the air is coming this way.
00:21And it's not just that roof that you can see there.
00:25And behind me, I don't even know if you can hear them, there's thousands and thousands of them.
00:30I think there's a herd of about maybe a hundred thousand who have crossed over.
00:34There's just so many that covered the entire plains.
00:36Even as we were driving to get to this location, we're passing huge, huge herds.
00:40So currently we're actually on a Ferrari Safari on the search for something quite special.
00:46That's why we sort of like got in here and we're passing all of these herds.
00:50But we saw such a huge herd coming with all of this dust in the air that we decided that we'll stop and just have a look at it.
00:56But they're incredible. And the line is just not stopping.
00:59You can see them. So we usually call them like safari ants because you can see how long the line is.
01:04It just does not end all the way up there.
01:09So you can see into Tanzania. So Tanzania is after the forest line.
01:13They're just thousands and thousands of them.
01:16So the migration is one of the great wonders of the natural world.
01:23So listen to the sound they're making.
01:25So they're all communicating with each other.
01:27So that's young ones, mothers, males, all of them are all in communication at the moment.
01:34So they're heading to those areas where we pass which have been bent.
01:38So that's where all the fresh green shoots of grass are.
01:41So you can even see them here. Those are fresh shoots.
01:44They're heading further in.
01:47This year's migration is going to be one of the best migrations that we've had probably since 2019, 2018.
01:53They've come in such a full force. Last year they didn't come like this. Last year they just came a little bit.
02:14But still moving.
02:16And when people are walking well, the looks for the pigだから.
02:18They are wayne م ơiaaD.
02:20And they're also like what they tell like.
02:22So they can find Homer in here and see him as a representative with this.
02:23So there's more, like this one satellite scene.
02:27And you are so creepy.
02:29And you came in such anbes See?
02:31I'm soừngシャンデ Eg.
02:33And I expect that we're going to be like this one.
02:35I'm so tempted to wear ...
02:37And they're so listing the color in here.
02:39I'm so tempted to bring up ...
04:11So there is a very, very young wildebeest.
04:16He's only a couple of weeks old.
04:19Actually, he's about a month or so old.
04:21This is very, very abnormal.
04:23So you can see the ones in the background are approaching a year.
04:27So he's a much later birth.
04:29So James and I saw another one like this, who's a little bit less...
04:32And I'll see you next time.
04:34Bye.
04:35Bye.
04:36Bye.
04:38Bye.
04:39Bye.
04:40Bye.
04:41Bye.
04:42Bye.
04:43Bye.
04:59Bye.
05:00Bye.
05:01Let's see if you're going to get a young one of them.
05:31Let's see if you're going to get a young one of them.
05:58Let's see if you're going to get a young one of them.
