00:00Honestly, if it wasn't for the Live Oak sports community, we'd be in real bad shape.
00:18I want to do this for my coaches, my team, my brothers.
00:23Acorns on me, acorns on three. One, two, three, acorns!
00:26The brothers that we have right here, right now, this is who we're going to fight for, this is who we battle with.
00:32It's cool to see a future. The program has a life now.
00:36You have to believe in that. Do you guys believe in that? You believe in that?
00:43What sort of generated this? What made this want to happen?
00:46For me, I was introduced to Brad from a friend of mine who also works in the business, so to speak.
00:54And she said, you got to meet this guy. We grew up together. He's got a ton of energy and he is interested in doing a story.
01:01And we became pretty fast friends and his sort of, you know, his enthusiasm and his connection to the community, because he's such a, you know, a dedicated volunteer, you know, it made it all sort of come to fruition.
01:17If you don't have willing participants, a project like this never happens.
01:24But when you have people that are interested in it, enthusiastic about it, and there's really something going on, it's, you know, not easy to do.
01:32It's really hard, but it's a lot of fun to do because you're being accepted and the community's, you know, letting you, you know, in their living room, so to speak.
01:42And, yeah, that's how, that's how projects like this, you know, come about.
01:47Sports represents life.
01:50Big moments for big players.
01:52I like to see how people react during diversity.
01:57He doesn't care who gets the recognition. He just cares about the result.
02:01Third grade, my dad signed me up for just a ton of different sports camps.
02:05We'll put them in lacrosse camp.
02:07Dad, that was the most amazing thing I've ever done.
02:11He was like, this is something special. Like, both my boys, they love it. Let's make it happen.
02:16One, two, three, go!
02:19And also the trust because you're bringing these people into your community to shoot this and capture it.
02:25But can you, can you talk about that balance as well?
02:27I'm amazed at Brendan, by the way.
02:29He, he takes some really emotional stories of the kids involved in the, in the, in the movie and makes it a humanizing story.
02:38And it's, it's not just a sports story.
02:41It's a story told about teenagers coming of age, boys and girls.
02:46And, um, we use lacrosse as a way to tell the story.
02:49But it sure sounds, you know, it's the girls, but also like Gavin, just seeing Gavin's energy.
02:55Because you understand that it, it, it, it made him so happy.
02:59And then it makes the kids happy.
03:00And then you see generation and generation.
03:03And I'll, I'll let Brendan talk about Gavin too.
03:05But to me that there's a scene where Gavin is driving to the playoff game in his car and I'm tearing up thinking about it, but it's just, he's got the picture of the kids, picture of his dog, picture of his wife.
03:18And I'm like, this is what it's all about.
03:20The coach loves these people.
03:21For the next two hours, this is all that matters.
03:26Forget about everything else going on.
03:28Look to your left, look to your right.
03:30The brothers that we have right here, right now, this is who we're going to fight for.
03:34This is who we battle with for the next two hours.
03:36We control, we can control.
03:38We go out there, we show this peninsula team what South County lacrosse is about.
03:43We're going to play harder, we're going to play smarter, we're going to be the better team in every facet of the game.
03:47From the first whistle until the fat lady screams, we are the best team on this field.
03:52You have to believe in that.
03:53Do you guys believe in that?
03:54Let's go!
03:55You believe in that?
03:56Let's go!
03:56All right, let's break it down!
03:58Let's f***ing go, boys.
03:59I love you guys.
03:59Let's f***ing bring a dub home.
04:01All right, we got this s***.
04:02Live hook on me, live hook on three.
04:03One, two, three.
04:04Live hook!
04:05Starting with Gavin, you know, this film needed sort of that linchpin, that, you know, the glue that would hold it all together.
04:12And Gavin's enthusiasm in the project and willingness to just sort of forget that we were there with cameras and be himself, that was amazing.
04:23I mean, if he had a different personality, it might not work like that.
04:27And then, you know, the kids were great.
04:29I mean, they don't exactly, they didn't always love being put on camera, but they were into it.
04:35You know, once they knew we were there and, you know, they were able to buy into the project and they gave us their time authentically.
04:44And that just, I think a lot of their enthusiasm for the project came about because of Gavin being, you know, so cool in front of the camera and so willing to be himself.
04:56The live hook acorns are loaded this season.
04:59If you're going up against this team, have the ice packs ready.
05:02Shot at goal.
05:03Score!
05:03Score!
05:04Oh, what a play!
05:07Big check from the eighties.
05:09But with spins, he shoots!
05:11Goal!
05:13The bridge is unstoppable.
05:15Great shot here from Castro.
05:17Price up to turn and pass.
05:19Oh!
05:20This game is over.
05:22Oh, and it's impressive.
05:24These seniors looking at their last year.
05:27Could this be a championship season?
05:29Goal!
05:33Brad, could you talk about sports and the importance of sports in your life?
05:36Obviously, you know, with your baseball background, you know, but how lacrosse sort of, you got to that at a certain point.
05:43But now it seems like this is such a great film to introduce people to lacrosse.
05:47Because if you're not as familiar with it, it totally brings it into perspective.
05:50Yeah.
05:51It's North America's oldest game.
05:53I was built in Southern California on baseball, basketball, and football.
05:56And when I found this sport, I was like, this is amazing to me because it's the contact of football, it's the hand-eye coordination of hockey, it's the accuracy of baseball, it's the fitness of soccer, and it's the moving without the ball of basketball.
06:11I'm like, I love all those sports.
06:13And my kids really, I was always about multiple sports.
06:16Play multiple sports.
06:18Learn from them.
06:18And then when you get passionate about one, that's where I want to see the absolute passion about practicing, because that's when you get better.
06:27And these kids wanted to practice.
06:28And it's just a, it's a sport like nothing else I've ever seen.
06:31You give a kid a stick, 5, 6, 10 years old, 12 years old, and they become this, another person.
06:39They want to play the sport.
06:41I caught wind that Brad was starting both boys' and girls' programs live over.
06:45Our whole entire life has been lacrosse, lacrosse, lacrosse.
06:49There's so many people that we've been with since day one.
06:53It's crazy that it's just ending.
06:56Being able to win a championship at the end of the year, that's what everybody plays for.
06:59You want to go to playoffs, you want to battle, you want to get through the first three rounds, and then walk off in the blaze of glory.
07:06It would be awesome for those seniors, man.
07:08Capturing lacrosse, capturing it on spring, capturing the energy.
07:11Could you talk about finding that and what came to your eye, obviously, since you've done so with ESPN, you understand that.
07:19But can you talk about capturing this specifically?
07:22It's difficult to capture.
07:24There's a reason when you watch it on, you know, live television, they cover the game from 300 yards away in a wide shot.
07:31Because the ball moves so fast, it's tough to get really intimate.
07:35And that's the same with hockey and a lot of sports.
07:36And so having experienced camera people that knew the sport was critical.
07:43And we, you know, Brad's neighbor, Amy Gunther, she was an amazing camera operator, knew the sport well, had a lot of reps shooting for their social media stuff.
07:55And some of the best stuff was shot by her in terms of covering the game itself.
08:00But we learned a lot quick, you know, I've covered a lot of sports, but yeah, lacrosse is unique and a really fun challenge to try to get close and intimate with the photography.
08:09Let's go, let's go, let's go.
08:14Adversity is actually the opportunity for you to really see what you're made of.
08:18Very rarely do you get an opportunity to beat the lion.
08:21If we win a championship, like everything that we did previously is just canceled out.
08:28Whether they win or lose, I love him and I'm there for you.
08:33I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I love him and I
