02:30After months of political wrangling and a flurry of criticisms issued by U.S. President Donald Trump last week,
02:43European leaders have come out with a strong response.
02:46In an audacious move, the European Union have decided to indefinitely immobilize Russian assets held in EU countries
02:53worth a whopping 210 billion euros.
02:56An emergency clause in the treaties was triggered this week to freeze the overseas holdings owned by the Russian Central Bank.
03:04The measure comes just days after Trump labeled Europe a, quote,
03:08decaying continent and called its leaders weak.
03:11With one bold move, the bloc was able to push back against external interference
03:16and insulate the large sum of money from the Kremlin's war machine.
03:20The bulk of the assets, some 185 billion euros, are held at Euroclear,
03:26a central securities depository in Brussels.
03:29The remaining 25 billion are spread in banks across five other EU member states.
03:34Until now, the funds have been paralyzed under the traditional sanctions scheme,
03:39which requires renewal by unanimous vote among the member states biannually.

03:50blocking states from crafting their own AI regulations,
03:53warning that a patchwork of rules could stifle the industry.
03:58Trump argued that competing with China requires a unified approach,
04:02saying there is only going to be one winner.
04:06The order directs the attorney general to challenge state laws
04:10that threatens to withhold federal funding from states with conflicting AI rules.
04:14Meanwhile, billionaire David Sachs, Trump's AI policy lead,
04:21claimed the administration would target only onerous regulations,
04:25though critics argue that this removes vital oversight.
04:28We have over a thousand bills going through state legislatures.
04:30States like California and Colorado have already passed laws
04:33addressing AI bias and transparency,
04:36which this federal move could now override.
04:38What's that all about?
04:40Okay.
