00:00In October 2017, Harvey Weinstein finally lost control of the story.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo! And today, we're exploring the most well-known celebrities currently locked
00:10up in jail around the world. We won't be looking at those who became famous solely for their crime.
00:15Instead, we'll focus on those who gained some measure of fame before their arrests.
00:20Hogard hugged his wife, who was in tears. He whispered,
00:24I love you, before he was handcuffed and led away.
00:26Shannon Richardson
00:29With several minor roles in productions, most notably portraying zombies in The Walking Dead,
00:41Richardson's life got significantly harder in 2013. On top of going through a divorce,
00:47she accused her estranged husband Nathan of being behind the ricin-laced letters sent to several
00:53targets, including then-President Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. However,
00:59it soon emerged that wasn't true and that she was responsible. Richardson attempted to shift the
01:05blame again by claiming Nathan had forced her to post the letters, which was another lie,
01:10as she admitted later. After agreeing to a plea deal, the former actor pleaded guilty to her crimes.
01:15In 2014, Richardson was sentenced to 18 years in jail. A federal judge gave Shannon Richardson the
01:22maximum sentence under her plea deal. Quincy Prohms. As a promising professional footballer,
01:29as well as representing his country, the Netherlands, Prohms lent his talents to big European teams,
01:35including Ajax, Sevilla, and Spartak Moscow. He was a highly rated player, wasn't he? 50 caps
01:41for his country, still just 32 years old. While enjoying a second stint at the latter in 2023,
01:49the midfielder was found guilty of attacking his cousin in the Netherlands in 2020, earning him 18
01:54months in jail. However, due to no extradition treaty with Russia, Prohms couldn't be sent back.
02:01Yet it got more complicated for him when his home country found him guilty of trafficking illegal
02:05substances, earning him another six years in jail. Prohms was arrested while playing in the
02:11United Arab Emirates, resulting in his extradition to the Netherlands to serve his sentence.
02:16Clifford Etienne.
02:18Right before facing Etienne in 2003, Mike Tyson got his famous face tattoo, sadly for Etienne.
02:25Iron Mike had no issues with the fresh artwork as he knocked the Louisiana heavyweight out
02:30within 49 seconds.
02:32This tattoo looks like it's going to kick your ass, Bill, doesn't it?
02:35In 2005, with a history of time in jail for armed robbery, Etienne was arrested for a spree of
02:41crimes after taking illegal substances. This included robbing a store, carjacking, and attempting to
02:47shoot police officers, only for the weapon to thankfully jam.
02:51I didn't kill nobody, I didn't shoot nobody, I didn't hurt nobody, but I ended up with like 165 years.
02:58In 2006, the disgraced boxer was sentenced to an incredible 160 years in jail. However, the term was
03:07later reduced to 105 years, reportedly due to a technicality from a procedure error.
03:14Rashid Byrd.
03:15As well as taking on acting roles, Byrd was also carving out a basketball career for himself,
03:21playing for developmental teams such as California's Los Angeles Defenders,
03:25now known as the South Bay Lakers. Yet away from film sets in the court,
03:31he was convicted multiple times for assault in 2005 and 2010.
03:35In 2020, Byrd was arrested for another attack on a woman the year before.
03:41During that time, the police found a connection between the basketballer
03:44and a series of assaults around the Los Angeles area from 2015 to 2020.
03:49In 2024, after being found guilty, Byrd was sentenced to 90 years in jail.
03:56Austin Jones.
03:58I know a lot of you probably have some really harsh and negative opinions towards me right
04:02now, and I understand why you do.
04:04Beginning his YouTube career in 2007, Jones quickly grew his reputation on the platform
04:09with his music, often creating videos of him doing a cappella covers.
04:18In 2015, he found himself in controversy for asking for inappropriate material from his young fans,
04:25requiring him to publish a video apology.
04:27But I think with time, you'll see.
04:31You'll see that I'm better now, and I'm here to truly make a difference.
04:34It got much worse for Jones in 2017, when the authorities searched his home in Bloomingdale,
04:40Illinois, and found indecent material of minors.
04:44Reportedly, he encouraged his young fan base to send him the media.
04:47In 2019, after pleading guilty to a charge of receiving such illegal content,
04:53Jones was sentenced to 10 years in jail, and will have to register as an offender for life.
04:59Chris Wu.
05:00After making his name in the music industry as a member of the South Korean Chinese boy
05:05band, EXO, Wu broke out on his own, releasing music and even acting in films.
05:14However, in 2021, that reputation he'd built for himself came tumbling down when he was accused
05:21of assault.
05:22While Wu denied the allegations, brands quickly dropped him, followed shortly by his arrest.
05:28In 2022, the musician was found guilty of multiple counts, earning him 13 years in jail.
05:35On top of that, Wu was also fined around $84 million for tax evasion.
05:40In 2025, rumors emerged online that Wu had died in prison.
05:45However, Chinese authorities have disputed them and claimed he's still alive and serving his sentence.
05:52Robinho.
05:52Authorities in Italy have issued an international arrest warrant for former Manchester City forward
05:57Robinho.
05:58With a glittering career, playing for Santos, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester City, as
06:04well as playing for the Brazil national team, Robinho threw all that away in 2013 after he
06:10assaulted a woman in Italy.
06:12In 2017, he was sentenced to nine years.
06:16However, due to being in Brazil at the time and the country not allowing extradition, Robinho
06:21didn't serve his sentence.
06:23The 38-year-old has always denied the charge.
06:26When he rejoined Santos in 2020, the backlash caused sponsors of the club to drop out.
06:33Over the next few years, the disgraced footballer appealed the sentence.
06:37However, in 2023, Italy's authorities requested Robinho to serve his sentence in Brazil, which
06:43the South American nation agreed to.
06:45He can't get away with this.
06:47We should not let it go.
06:48He's in the wrong and he has to pay for the crime he committed.
06:51In 2024, after another appeal being dismissed, Robinho finally began his 2017 sentence.
06:59Jonathan War Machine Copenhaver.
07:02Police did respond, but they say enough time passed that John Copenhaver had made his escape
07:07into the night.
07:08Best known for his MMA work as War Machine for companies such as UFC and Bellator, Copenhaver's
07:14legacy was forever tarnished in 2014.
07:18That year, Christy Mack, as well as discussing the abuse she experienced from him during their
07:22relationship, spoke about the terrible attacks she sustained at his hands after their split.
07:27The fighter broke into her Las Vegas, Nevada home, beat her then-partner and Mack and attempted
07:33to assault her.
07:33Amazingly, despite suffering many injuries, she managed to escape and get help from a neighbor.
07:40John Copenhaver is a monster.
07:42He does not have a human core.
07:45Do you know what I mean?
07:46He doesn't have empathy or sympathy.
07:48The former MMA star was eventually tracked down and arrested.
07:51In 2017, Copenhaver was found guilty on many counts, earning him life imprisonment with
07:57the possibility of parole after 36 years.
08:00Now, the defense team has mentioned filing an appeal, but regardless, War Machine will
08:05spend a long time in prison before that process even starts.
08:09Jacob Hoggard.
08:11In 2004, a year after forming the Canadian pop rock band Headley and becoming its lead vocalist,
08:17Hoggard went on to appear in and finish third in Canadian Idol.
08:28In 2018, after releasing one album after another with his group and achieving success in Canada,
08:34Hoggard suddenly quit the music industry and became a carpenter.
08:38A few months later, he was arrested after allegations he'd assaulted two females.
08:42Lead singer of the rock band, Headley, communicated with women over social media apps like Snapchat.
08:49Both were invited to the city of Toronto, where the alleged offenses took place in 2016.
08:54In 2022, the trial, which was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, found Hoggard guilty
09:00of one charge against the woman, earning him five years in jail.
09:04Hoggard hugged his wife, who was in tears.
09:07He whispered, I love you, before he was handcuffed and led away.
09:10That same year, he was also charged with assault in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.
09:15In 2024, Hoggard was acquitted of this charge.
09:20Darren Sharper.
09:21Darren Sharper, who played for the New Orleans Saints, for Green Bay, for Minnesota.
09:25Tonight, a much different image from the courtroom.
09:27In 2010, Sharper finally reached the pinnacle of the NFL by winning the Super Bowl with the
09:33New Orleans Saints.
09:34Yet, a year after retiring from the sports, allegations of the former safety's criminality
09:39came to light.
09:40It wasn't until 2014 that the arrests for Sharper began, as he was accused of assaulting
09:45women across several U.S. states and even distributing prescribed medications to enact his crimes.
09:52From 2015 to 2016, the former NFL star was convicted of attacks in Nevada, Louisiana, California,
10:00and Arizona.
10:01As a result, in 2016, Sharper received various concurrent sentences, earning him 20 years in jail altogether.
10:10Once said to be destined for the NFL Hall of Fame, is now headed to prison instead.
10:16Kid Creole.
10:17After rising to fame as a member of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Nathaniel Glover,
10:23better known as Kid Creole, stepped away from the music business as the group's success faltered.
10:29Now it's my turn, so understand that I'm the Kid Creole and I'm a ladies' man.
10:33In 2017, then working as a handyman in Manhattan, New York City, Creole spoke to an unhoused man named
10:41John Jolly.
10:43The 55-year-old victim pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.
10:46First spotted on CCTV, the duo then moved out of view.
10:51At this point, Creole fatally stabbed Jolly.
10:54The former musician claimed he stabbed him after Jolly made advances towards him.
10:59However, the criminal system didn't agree with his claim of self-defense.
11:04In 2022, Creole was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter and received 16 years in jail.
11:11Upon release, he'll undergo a further five years of supervision.
11:15Mel Hall
11:17For over a decade, Hall played his trade for several MLB teams, such as the Chicago Cubs,
11:24Cleveland Indians, and the New York Yankees.
11:27And deep to right field, the ball game is over!
11:32Three-run hover, the Yankees win!
11:35He even played in Japan before hanging up his bat in 1996.
11:39However, none of that mattered in 2007, when he was arrested in Louisville, Texas for sexual assault.
11:47Over time, more women came forward with their experiences with Hall, which were committed
11:52when they were minors.
11:54In one case, Hall integrated himself into a family's home on the promise he wanted to
11:59marry their daughter.
12:00And he not only moves in, he and Chaz move into her parents' bedroom, and they move into
12:08her old bedroom.
12:09He had used his sporting celebrity to prey on victims.
12:12In 2009, Hall was found guilty on several counts and was sentenced to 45 years in jail.
12:20See Murder
12:21As a member of the hip-hop group True, Corey Miller, better known as See Murder, enjoyed success
12:28with them, as well as releasing his own work.
12:31Murder, murder's in the heart of every killer.
12:33Take a look into his eyes, it's evidence of a homicidal.
12:36In the 90s especially, his albums were regularly high on the charts.
12:41However, in 2002, all that vanished, when See Murder was arrested for the killing of a
12:47teenager named Steve Thomas.
12:49On top of receiving a 10-year sentence for a separate attempted murder charge, in 2009,
12:56the musician was found guilty of Thomas' killing and sentenced to life.
13:00See Murder had contested the charge and has appealed unsuccessfully several times over the
13:05years.
13:06In 2018, two witnesses recanted their testimonies and claimed they had been forced to give them
13:12by the police.
13:14In an affidavit, Kenneth Jordan said Jefferson Parish deputies pressured him to lie by holding
13:19an unrelated charge over his head.
13:21However, in 2023, See Murder's sentence was upheld by a judge.
13:28Tammy Lynn Sitch
13:29In her heyday, there wasn't a more famous woman in professional wrestling than Sitch.
13:35Known as Sonny in the WWE in 1996, the wrestling manager became the most downloaded celebrity
13:41online.
13:42In 2011, Sitch was rewarded for her legacy by the WWE by being inducted into their Hall of
13:49Fame.
13:50However, away from the ring, Sitch has regularly had run-ins with the legal system.
13:55That was 39-year-old former pro wrestler Tamara Sitch in court this morning after being arrested
14:01for the fourth time for harassing a former boyfriend.
14:04It got significantly worse in 2022.
14:07While driving under the influence in Volusia County, Florida, Sitch crashed into the back
14:13of another car, taking the life of the driver, Julian Lasseter.
14:18Police say Sitch was four times the legal limit.
14:21Prosecutors say this was her fourth DUI in 10 years, and she was driving on a suspended
14:26license.
14:26In 2023, after pleading no contest, Sitch was sentenced to 17 and a half years in jail.
14:34Afterward, she'll undergo eight years of probation.
14:37I know how it feels, how it hurts, how it tears your heart out.
14:45And for that, I'm truly, truly sorry.
14:48Joe Sun.
14:49A relatively small-time actor is now attracting his biggest headlines ever, and they're not
14:54over movie roles.
14:55Instead, he has been accused of murder.
14:57Alongside a brief professional wrestling stint and non-winning MMA and kickboxing careers,
15:03Sun also appeared in films, such as 1997's Austin Powers' International Man of Mystery.
15:09That really hurt.
15:12I'm gonna have a lump there, you idiot.
15:14Yet in 2008, his life fell apart when he was sentenced to 60 days in jail for vandalism.
15:20As part of the process, Sun's DNA was taken, which matched with an assault case on a woman
15:25in 1990.
15:27While the statute of limitations ruled out some charges, Sun was found guilty of others,
15:32earning him a life sentence in 2011.
15:35Weeks later, it got worse for him when he was charged with murdering his cellmate.
15:39This earned him yet another conviction, this time for voluntary manslaughter, adding an
15:45additional 27 years to Sun's life sentence in 2017.
15:50Tory Lanez.
15:51Bursting onto the music scene in 2016, day star Shamuel Shua Peterson, better known as
15:58Tory Lanez, was carving out a successful career as a singer and rapper with a string of top-selling
16:03albums and singles.
16:05However, in 2020, Lanez was arrested in Los Angeles, California for carrying a concealed weapon after
16:17violence took place at a house party.
16:19Soon after, Megan Thee Stallion publicly stated he had shot her multiple times.
16:24So I looked down at my feet and I'm like, oh my god, like I'm really bleeding.
16:30While Lanez denied the accusation, even releasing an album nearly entirely about the allegations
16:35and allegedly endorsing a smear campaign against Megan, he was still arrested.
16:41In 2023, after the Canadian was found guilty on several counts, he was sentenced to 10 years
16:47in prison.
16:48Lee Murray.
16:49To Morocco now, where judges are set to decide today whether a key suspect in Britain's biggest
16:54cash robbery will be extradited.
16:56Best known for his one-off appearance in the UFC in 2004, Murray's MMA fighter career was
17:03cut short following his being severely stabbed in 2005.
17:06However, a year later, he found a way to continue to make money, albeit in a criminal fashion.
17:13That year, the Securitas Depot robbery in Tonbridge, England took place, where a gang Murray was
17:19involved with kidnapped a manager and his family, forcing him to help the group steal nearly 53
17:25million pounds.
17:27This heist is one of the biggest to have taken place in the world, especially during non-war
17:31times.
17:32Murray was soon tracked down in Morocco and arrested.
17:36In 2010, Murray was sentenced to 10 years in jail, which was later increased to 25 years.
17:43Ryan Grantham.
17:44Following his first screen acting role in 2007, Grantham should have had a long career in
17:50the industry, especially after performances in Supernatural, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, iZombie,
17:56and Riverdale.
17:57He told the police he did it, to protect me, but it wasn't him.
18:02However, that career was forever broken in 2020.
18:06Grantham, with a desire to attack Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, fatally shot
18:11his own mother in Squamish, British Columbia, to apparently spare her from seeing his planned
18:17assassination.
18:18He then recorded his confession.
18:21On his way to Trudeau in a car filled with weapons, Grantham changed his mind, eventually
18:26giving himself to the police.
18:28He's extremely remorseful for his actions and he's doing everything he possibly can to make
18:34amends for them.
18:35In 2022, the former actor pleaded guilty to his crime and was sentenced to life in prison,
18:41with possible parole after 14 years.
18:45Mark Rogowski.
18:46He was a 1980s skateboarding pioneer, known across the globe by one name, Gator.
18:53But Mark Rogowski had a dark and violent side.
18:56Starting his professional skateboarder career in 1980, Rogowski soon became a success, earning
19:01him thousands of dollars per month and even appearing in Tom Petty's 1989 music video
19:06for Free Fallin'.
19:07Free Fallin' now, Free Fallin' now.
19:12However, following his breakup with fellow skateboarder Brandy McClain, he snapped.
19:17In 1991, he invited McClain's friend Jessica Bergsten to his house in San Diego, California.
19:25Rogowski proceeded to assault her and take her life.
19:27A couple of months later, shortly after Bergsten's remains were found, Rogowski confessed to the
19:32police what he'd done and admitted it was out of revenge against McClain.
19:37In 1992, he received a 31-year-to-life sentence.
19:41In recent years, Rogowski has been granted parole by the board multiple times, only to have them
19:46denied by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
19:49We still feel that he shouldn't be released, and that is the position that we're gonna take.
19:55Sean Diddy Combs.
19:57New surveillance video shows Combs being taken into custody in a Manhattan hotel last week.
20:03Alongside a celebrated rapping career, Combs became one of the music industry's most powerful
20:09and richest record producers and executives.
20:12Yet, that legacy was destroyed in 2023, when his crimes were discovered.
20:17That year, his former partner Cassie Ventura issued a lawsuit against Combs for several charges,
20:23including assaults.
20:25This was the catalyst for many more women coming forward.
20:28They made allegations against Combs that they'd been assaulted by him, only for his team to
20:33cover it up.
20:34In 2024, the mountain of accusations and evidence led the police to arrest Combs and charge him
20:41with several offenses involving assaults.
20:43In 2025, Combs was found guilty of two counts, earning him a sentence of four years and two
20:49months in jail.
20:50Some of this aggravating behavior, the violence, took place even after Combs already knew that
20:57he was being investigated.
20:58Gary Glitter.
21:00With sparkly costumes and big hair, Glitter was one of the faces of the glam rock genre of
21:06music, providing him with a string of hits.
21:09Yet, his legendary status was destroyed when he was sentenced to jail for possessing indecent
21:21material of minors in 1999.
21:33After his release, Glitter traveled around the world.
21:36In 2006, he was convicted in Vietnam for assaulting youth.
21:42After his release, he reluctantly returned to the UK.
21:45In 2015, as part of Operation U-Tree, Glitter was found guilty of historical cases of assault
21:52against minors and sentenced to 16 years.
21:55In court, he is referred to by his real name, Paul Gad, but the judge told the jury you almost
22:01certainly know him better as Gary Glitter.
22:04While he was released in 2023, Glitter broke his license terms after allegedly looking at
22:10offensive material on his phone and was recalled to jail.
22:14Michael Jace.
22:16Best known for his work as Officer Julian Lowe in The Shield, in a minor role in Forrest Gump,
22:22Jace's life was set to change in 2014 when his wife April requested a divorce.
22:29Rather than accept her decision, Jace fatally shot her at their home in Los Angeles, California,
22:34when she returned after collecting their kids from baseball practice.
22:38April Jace was 40 years old.
22:41The couple had been married nearly 11 years.
22:44He planned to injure her and even taunted April over her passion for running during the attack.
22:49But instead, Jace took her life.
22:53Shortly after, he called 911 to tell them what he'd done.
22:56We do also know that neighbors, some other neighbors called 911 after they heard gunfire inside the home.
23:04In 2016, the disgraced actor was found guilty and sentenced to 40 years to life in jail.
23:112.
23:12Suge Knight.
23:13As the co-founder of Death Row Records, Suge Knight played a significant role in shaping
23:18the West Coast hip-hop scene.
23:20But just as his influence grew, so did his run-ins with the law.
23:25In 2015, while on the set of the NWA biopic Straight Out of Compton, Knight got into an altercation
23:32with two men, Terry Carter and Klee Bone Sloan.
23:35Suge Knight has turned himself into authorities after a deadly hit-and-run accident.
23:40He is alleged to have run over both of them with a pickup truck, killing Carter and leaving
23:45Sloan with severe injuries.
23:48Authorities initially charged Knight with murder and attempted murder, but he later pleaded
23:52no contest to involuntary manslaughter.
23:55In 2018, he was handed a 28-year prison term and will be eligible for parole in 2034.
24:03There's consequences for everything that we do, you know, and he reacted inappropriately.
24:09Joe Exotic.
24:11Controversial zookeeper and businessman Joe Exotic gained international recognition when
24:16he was featured in the wildly popular Netflix series, Tiger King.
24:20Among other things, the show depicted the intense rivalry between Exotic and animal rights activist,
24:26Carole Baskin.
24:27The relationship between the two was so strained that Exotic reportedly paid hitmen to have
24:33Baskin murdered.
24:34Additionally, he was accused of killing five tigers and selling others across state lines,
24:40in violation of federal wildlife laws.
24:43In 2019, a federal jury returned guilty verdicts on 17 charges of animal cruelty and two counts
24:50of attempted murder for hire.
24:52The former owner of the Greater Winnie Wood Animal Park was found guilty on all counts
24:56Tuesday.
24:57Exotic was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
25:00After appealing his conviction, his sentence was reduced by just one year.
25:04Danny Masterson.
25:12That 70s show actor Danny Masterson had faced sexual assault allegations since March 2017,
25:19with the incidents dating as far back as the early 2000s.
25:23Masterson denied the claims, but was dropped by his agency and fired from the Netflix sitcom
25:29The Ranch.
25:30Just like Masterson, some of his alleged victims were also members of the Church of Scientology,
25:36and they reported being harassed by the institution after coming forward.
25:40He and the church systematically stalked, harassed, invaded their and their family's privacy.
25:47Masterson's first court case ended in a mistrial, but in May 2023, a second jury found him guilty
25:53of two of the three criminal counts he was facing.
25:57In September, he was sentenced to 30 years to life behind bars.
26:02In his new trial, after the guilty verdicts came in, Masterson was immediately handcuffed
26:06and sent to jail.

26:34It was later revealed, however, that Theranos' technology did not work as claimed,
26:39and the company knowingly defrauded investors.
