00:00Real suspects, real danger. I'm Tom Morris, Jr., and this is Fugitives Caught on Taste.
00:20This guy has no regard for anybody else on the road.
00:23First up, we're in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where local P.D. are in
00:53pursuit of a suspect wanted for violating a protection order and who, according to the
00:58protected person, may have a bomb in his car. Earlier, Hot Springs P.D. received a call from
01:06the protected person and Corporal Tyler Ward made contact.
01:10The suspect, 32-year-old Jeffrey Latroy Love, the protected person's ex-boyfriend and father
01:25of her young son, appears to have sent her a snap from a nearby casino. And that's not
01:31all. Before I left Oklahoma, he had a homemade bomb in his possession.
01:38Corporal Ward got a description of the suspect's car and called it in.
01:41158 to 131 and 187. He got to run by Oaklawn and look for a gold Buick passenger car missing
01:49a grill with an Oklahoma plate. Don't make contact. Just look in the parking lot and see if there's
01:54one there. While the corporal took the protected person and her son to a shelter for safety,
02:02Officers Alex Tobar and Wes Smith, along with Smith's canine partner Spike, arrived at the casino,
02:09where they spotted the suspect's vehicle in the parking lot. The officers waited,
02:14and when Love returned to his car and pulled out of the lot, they followed him.
02:19Now, the suspect crosses the street and turns into a fast-food restaurant parking lot.
02:26I want you to say we're going to be in the west side of the Sonic. That's all.
02:31The officers arrive just as he exits his vehicle. Get out of your f***ing body!
02:36At the same time, a restaurant employee delivering food to a customer's car quickly realizes what
02:42she's walked into and backs away from the scene. Meanwhile, backup arrives, including Corporal Ward,
02:48who tries to talk to the suspect, keenly aware that he may have a bomb in his car.
02:54I'm the supervisor. I want you to listen to me.
02:56I'm going back into my car!
02:58Okay. I want you to step out of the vehicle with your arms in the air.
03:04You're under arrest for violation of a protection order. You're going to jail.
03:08You're going to violate me!
03:09I'm going to tell you if you'll step out. I've got a canine here.
03:12I'm about to drive off!
03:14Don't do me!
03:15I'm about to drive off!
03:16I want you to step out of the vehicle with your car!
03:20The suspect puts his car in gear, and after driving over a small concrete barrier and damaging
03:26his tires, seems to have gotten stuck.
03:30I hope it's there. We're going to see you about the plane. He's driving through the grass.
03:34Hey, stuff. He ain't going nowhere.
03:36Hey!
03:36It's okay!
03:37But he somehow manages to back the car up and drive off, sending the officers scrambling
03:45back to their cruisers.
03:47Go, hide! Get in here! Go! Load up!
03:49The suspect has gotten a head start on the officers.
03:54You got eyes on him? You got eyes on him?
03:56Negative. I don't have eyes on him right now.
03:59But soon, they get help from some bystanders.
04:03158. We got people waving us down at Boardwalk. He's parked his car and fled.
04:07Where's the last place you saw him?
04:1031. Coming from fire.
04:12Between the buildings? Okay.
04:14Witnesses point officers to this alley between two buildings. Corporal Ward, Officer Smith,
04:21and K-9 Spike begin searching on foot, while other officers form a perimeter.
04:26Okay. Hey! Hey!
04:28Officers spread out and expand the search area, but the trail seems to have gone cold.
04:37Oh, there's no pavement path over there.
04:40Until...
04:41I just seen that tree move.
04:43Good boy.
04:51I give up!
04:53Pull on out, Jeffrey. It's dog coming in!
04:56Move now!
04:57I'm trying to come.
04:59You ran! You can get your ass down!
05:01Now! On your face, now!
05:04With nowhere to run, the suspect finally emerges from the brush.
05:08On your face, now!
05:10And officers quickly cough him.
05:12Good job, buddy. Good job, buddy.
05:15We'll get you some water here in a minute. It's all right.
05:18Good job, buddy.
05:20Get some .
05:21It is.
05:22I think that's .
05:23Yeah, if you were to come out and talk to us, we wouldn't be here.
05:25Now you got any charges.
05:26Officers get love on his feet, walk him out of the woods, and then begin carefully searching his car, mindful that a homemade bomb could be inside.
05:37What do we got?
05:38It looks like that.
05:39Officers find methamphetamine in the car, as well as multiple bags of marijuana that the suspect dropped while fleeing.
05:51But as they continue their search and open the trunk, officers find what appears to be the homemade bomb.
05:58Corporal Ward quickly reacts.
06:02Corporal Ward quickly reacts.
06:04Hey, okay, stop.
06:05No, no, no, no, no, no, no, it's a bomb.
06:11OK.
06:12It looks like it's made out of fireworks.
06:16As they make contact with the fire department and federal ATF agents,
06:22officers quickly move to protect the public by blocking off traffic to the area.
06:27Let's block the road off.
06:28I'm blocking off southbound traffic here at Boardwalk Village.
06:31As for Love, he's placed in the back of a cruiser where he begins to act out.
06:39I'm about to slip these cuffs, bitch.
06:42Come on, bitch.
06:44The door's locked too, bitch.
06:46Come on, bitch.
06:55Sorry.
06:57I'm just peeing on myself.
07:08ATF agents arrived, x-rayed the device in the trunk,
07:11and confirmed that it was, in fact, a homemade explosive.
07:15An agent immediately took the device to a local landfill where it was disassembled.
07:21Love was taken into federal custody and charged with possession of a destructive device.
07:26He pled guilty and was sentenced to seven years and three months in federal custody.
07:31In Arkansas, Love was hit with several additional charges, including violation of a domestic order of protection,
07:38possession of a controlled substance, and fleeing from a vehicle or conveyance with substantial danger of death.
07:44He pled guilty to those three charges and was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
07:50Next, we're in Hamilton County, Ohio, where deputies are involved in a high-speed, multi-state pursuit of an ex-con wanted for probation violation.
08:07The suspect, 41-year-old Dustin Cole, who'd previously been convicted in Indiana of aiding a criminal with a deadly weapon,
08:15was also wanted in Ohio for violating his probation in a drug possession case.
08:21Now, as Cole enters Ohio, Hamilton County deputies join the pursuit,
08:30while officers further up the road prepare to deploy stop sticks in an effort to slow him down.
08:36Hi, David, 82. I'm going to be out, trying to get sticks out, just short of 7th Street.
08:43Can I get vehicle descriptions, please?
08:45It's got a black Nissan Sentra.
08:48It's going to be in your number two lane from the right-hand shoulder, passing the one over nine right now.
08:54All right, we have two full sets of sticks just to high of 7th Street.
08:58As the suspect approaches...
09:01...82, we got it in this way.
09:06Good stick, good stick.
09:11The stick deployment is a success.
09:13Yeah, it looks like he's dragging one of the sticks.
09:16But one of them gets stuck to the car, ripping the handle out of the deputy's hand.
09:23Yeah, it's a full kind of stick. This is my hand.
09:27If it comes loose, he's going to run over the back tire.
09:30Although the highway has been blocked off to protect the public,
09:33deputies proceed cautiously, as the sticks could detach at any time
09:37and possibly hit their tires in the process.
09:41Crossing the bridge right now.
09:43But after the fugitive crosses over a bridge into Kentucky,
09:47the sticks finally do fall off, and the officers are able to avoid hitting them.
09:52We have speeds of about 35 mile an hour, currently entering in this country.
09:56It's not long before the suspect's front-left tire is completely destroyed,
10:02and his car slows down significantly.
10:059882, he's on a rim. He's on rims now.
10:08He's crawling. He's on rims.
10:10I don't think he's going to make it up this hill.
10:13I don't think we're done here. We can't go any faster.
10:15He's done.
10:16With the suspect's car inching along,
10:19deputies exit their vehicles and move in.
10:21Hey, turn the f***ing car off now.
10:25Turn the f***ing car off.
10:27I'm going in here to pull it out.
10:28I don't give a s***.
10:29I got it.
10:29Show me your f***ing hands.
10:31I got it.
10:33Put your hands up here.
10:35Show me your f***ing hands up here.
10:36When I tell you, Henry, when I tell you,
10:38you're going to take your right hand.
10:40I just f***ing hands.
10:42Can I f***ing you?
10:43Hey.
10:45You punched me again.
10:46Hey.
10:47Shut up.
10:48The deputies remove two passengers
10:50and the driver from the car.
10:52Hey, partner.
10:53I'm going to come to the United States.
10:55Oh, yeah?
10:56What do I get to be out there for, dude?
10:59I'm going to f***ing you to nothing, man.
11:01The driver is detained
11:02while officers check in with the passengers.
11:05Attorney, we're all good.
11:06They're all in custody.
11:07I love you, man.
11:10That's his passenger.
11:15You got a broken car down, too, man.
11:17After the driver and passengers are treated,
11:20the deputy who smashed the car window
11:22receives aid for his bloody hand.
11:25You see it, brother?
11:26I'm going to just wrap it up, dude.
11:30I thought you had a damn window punch.
11:32You got a handle on the car.
11:33That's what he said.
11:35That's my window punch.
11:37The two passengers were ultimately not charged
11:40and were released.
11:41As for Cole...
11:42Spread your feet, dude.
11:44I don't have nothing on it.
11:45That's my s***, buddy.
11:48All right.
11:48Well, I'm just making sure.
11:49Oh, yeah.
11:50Cole was arrested by Covington, Kentucky Police,
11:53then extradited back to Indiana,
11:56where he was charged with resisting arrest,
11:58driving while license suspended,
12:00and reckless driving.
12:01He has yet to enter a plea,
12:03and his case is pending.
12:06Cole was also charged
12:07for violating his probation in Indiana.
12:10He admitted to this violation,
12:11and that case is also pending.
12:14For violating his probation in Ohio,
12:17Cole pled guilty,
12:18and his probation was restored,
12:20but the term was extended
12:22from two to three years.
12:28Next, we're in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin,
12:30where local PD are in pursuit of two suspects
12:33in an allegedly stolen vehicle.
12:35Earlier, police received a hit from a flop camera
12:39that spotted a reportedly stolen SUV.
12:43Soon after, Sergeant Michael Algiers
12:45and his canine partner, Chase,
12:47spotted the vehicle
12:48and attempted to pull it over.
12:50I'm just going to stop it now.
12:5260th Avenue, we're going southbound
12:55from Highway 50, southbound.
12:57Hold on, Chase.
12:59Now, as the driver blows through this red light,
13:02Sergeant Algiers coordinates
13:03with other responding officers.
13:06All right, see if you can take 165 to Sheridan.
13:08Of course, spikes.
13:09I'll advise for approaching Sheridan soon.
13:12What's the vehicle description?
13:14That should be traversed.
13:16Male black driver.
13:18Further up the road,
13:19Officer Garrett Walecki
13:21prepares to lay out spike strips.
13:24And soon, the fugitives approach.
13:30Positive spikes, positive spikes.
13:32Successful spike.
13:34With the SUV starting to slow down,
13:37officers decide to make their move.
13:40I'm going to get in front of them
13:41and just slow down.
13:42Officer Patrick Gaynor
13:43pulls ahead of both Sergeant Algiers
13:46and the suspects,
13:47then slows down
13:48in an attempt to box him in.
13:50All right, we're at the Sheridan News,
13:53boxing in.
13:53When Gaynor slows down,
13:55the driver swerves left
13:57and onto the shoulder.
13:58Gaynor then pushes him
14:02onto the grass.
14:05Despite losing the tire,
14:07the suspect manages
14:08to swerve back onto the road
14:10and attempts to pass Gaynor
14:12on the right.
14:13When the fugitive tries to pass him,
14:22Officer Gaynor
14:23uses the opportunity
14:24to execute a pit maneuver,
14:27causing the SUV to lose control
14:30and crash into a tree.
14:31Right now!
14:35Get your hands out the window!
14:37A3P, we got a 1050.
14:39We're going to be on Sheridan
14:40at the 125 hundred block.
14:44Officers immediately surround the vehicle
14:46and order the fugitives to surrender.
14:49Get your hands out the window!
14:50Driver, exit the vehicle,
14:52keeping your hands up!
14:55Hands above your head!
14:57Walk backwards to the sound of my voice!
14:59Keep coming! Keep coming!
15:02The driver cooperates
15:04and is taken into custody.
15:07Well, Lucky,
15:07when the next person comes out,
15:10have him come out the driver's side
15:11if he can,
15:11but have him leave that door wide open.
15:13Sergeant Algiers requests
15:15that the door be left open
15:16so officers can confirm
15:18there are no other passengers
15:20inside the vehicle.
15:22I'm coming on it, Sean!
15:23Hands above your head!
15:25Turn away!

17:16But Trooper Schmidt

19:15but I mean,
19:16it could've been a lot easier
