00:00Breaking news in the baseball world, and it involves a trade between two clubs looking

00:05to tweak their pitching depth.

00:07This past Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays made a move to acquire right-handed reliever Chase

00:11Lee from the Detroit Tigers.

00:13Going back to Detroit in exchange, is a left-handed relief prospect by the name of Johan Simon.

00:18So what's the context here?

00:20For the Tigers, this transaction is about managing their 40-man roster.

00:25This move clears a spot for the return of Kyle Finnegan, who just agreed to a two-year

00:29contract earlier this week, pending a physical.

00:32Now, Detroit did already have one roster spot open, but that one is reportedly slated for

00:37right-hander Drew Anderson, once his one-year deal becomes official.

00:41Let's break down the pieces moving in this deal.

00:44The Blue Jays are getting a 27-year-old sidearm reliever in Chase Lee.

00:49Detroit had originally acquired him from the Texas Rangers back at the 2024 trade deadline,

00:54as part of the Andrew Chafin trade.

00:56Lee brings a very unique look from the right side with a sharp-moving sweeper, a sinker,

01:01and a four-seam fastball.

01:03He made his MLB debut with the Tigers last April, and appeared in 32 games.

01:08Over 37 and a third innings, he posted a 4.10 ERA with 36 strikeouts.

01:15He gave up seven homers, five of them off that sweeper.

01:19But the scouting report highlights his aggressive approach and willingness to attack the strike zone.

01:24Lee's story is incredible.

01:26He was largely unnoticed until pitching club ball at the University of Alabama,

01:30where he walked onto the team.

01:31He posted a 1.87 ERA over three seasons with the Crimson Tide,

01:36which led to the Rangers drafting him in the sixth round back in 2021.

01:40Oh, and he also earned an aeronautics engineering degree.

01:44His journey to the majors included living in an RV with his wife and child while shuttling between

01:48Detroit and AAA Toledo.

01:51He also comes with two minor league options remaining, giving Toronto some flexibility.

01:57Heading to Detroit is 24-year-old lefty Johan Simon.

02:00He was a bit of a late bloomer in the Blue Jays' system.

02:04After coming over from the Dominican Republic,

02:06he spent three years in the rookie-level Florida Complex League.

02:09He just graduated to full-season ball this past year and put together a solid season across

02:14three levels, finishing at AA New Hampshire.

02:17In 31 appearances and 71 innings, he recorded a 3.42 ERA with 79 strikeouts.

02:25He's primarily a sinker-slider pitcher, known for generating a high ground ball rate.
