00:00All right Tigers fans, gather around, let's talk about a moment that's permanently etched
00:05into the story of our 2024 playoff run, picture this, Parker Meadows watches a drive absolutely
00:11crushed down the right field line in Houston, a home run off of Hunter Brown.
00:15That snapshot from game 2 of the wildcard series, wasn't just our first run of that
00:20game, it was a breakthrough against a hometown pitcher trying to end our season, but that
00:25moment, it's also a stark reminder of what Meadows can do when he's right, something
00:29we saw far too little of this past season, and if anyone on this Detroit roster deserves
00:33and needs a bounce back, it's Parker Meadows, his entire 2025 campaign was derailed by maybe
00:38the freakiest start imaginable, a freak arm injury just one game into spring training, we fought
00:45through that and other injuries to get back to the postseason, but Meadows himself never
00:50got that long consistent stretch to get back to the form he showed at the end of 2024, listen
00:55to what manager AJ Hinch said at season's end, I think Parker was consistently trying
00:59to get himself back, I mean he had one of the most random injuries I've ever been a
01:03part of in my career, I've never seen or heard of a nerve shutting down and him not being able
01:09to have a functioning part of his body and part of his game, figuring out the injury itself
01:14took time, the symptom was obvious, no feeling in his upper right arm, but the why was the puzzle,
01:20it was eventually diagnosed as an issue with his musculocutaneous nerve, it basically went
01:25to sleep, and there was no timeline for when it might wake up, Meadows went weeks before full
01:31clearance, he wasn't cleared for game activity until the second half of May, and didn't make
01:37his 2025 season debut for Detroit until June 2nd, after an 8 game rehab assignment that was
01:44basically his spring training, that set him on a path of playing catch up the entire season,
01:49Hinch continued, and we did not see the best of him, the most consistent that we've seen,
01:53and we know that we're going to get, he played only 38 games over two months before a right
01:58quad strain at the end of July sidelined him until September, he did return for the stretch run and
02:04immediately went on a tear, homering in two of his first three games back and batting, 343, 12 for 35,
02:11over his first 10 games, but he closed the regular season in a 4 for 31 slump with just one extra base
02:18hit, one run scored, and one RBI, our offense, which had overcome his early absence with a
02:24Javier Baez revival, struggled down the stretch, and when we look for internal improvements for
02:292026, a healthy Parker Meadows is one of the clearest paths, having a healthy offseason is going
02:35to be really good for him, Hinch said, I think it's one of the few times he's had to play through a lot
02:40of things throughout the year, and we did miss him, we missed his defense, we missed his presence,
02:46president of baseball operations. Scott Harris doubled down with a telling comparison, you could
02:52have asked the exact same question with the same terminology for Dylan Dingler a year ago, we saw
02:57him perform down the stretch in 2024, could have asked, hey how do you fix him, and now we look at
03:02Dylan Dingler, look at the year that he just put together on both sides of the ball, and managing a
03:08pitching staff, and some of the game-calling attributes, wow, what a difference a year can
03:12make, that starts this offseason. Now, a potential Meadows comeback hits at a fascinating time for both
03:18him and the team. As he works to get back to that 2024 stretch run form, we can all see number two
03:24prospect and 2023 first-round draft pick Max Clark on the horizon, maybe a year or less away. Like a
03:30healthy Meadows, Clark is a standout athlete, a potential five-tool player with gold-glove-caliber
03:36defense, and an impact left-handed bat, Clark still needs some time in the system, but there
03:41are internal pushes, for Meadows Baez, who thrived in center early last season, could see more time
03:47there, especially if top prospect Kevin McGonigal, or a free agent signing gets shortstop reps,
03:53and don't forget Matt Veerling, whose own 2025 season was derailed by injury, who could crack a
03:59crowded outfield mix. So, after a season defined by a sleeping nerve and playing catch-up,
04:05the question for 2026 is clear. Can a fully healthy Parker Meadows reclaim his spot and become the
04:11consistent force we all saw flashes of, or will the internal competition and rising prospects
04:17change the landscape for good? What's your take?
