A flurry of online reports and social media posts has set off alarms across Venezuela, claiming that a US Navy EA-18G Growler, an electronic warfare variant of the F/A-18 Super Hornet, may have neared or even entered Venezuelan airspace. The claims, fueled by intermittent flight-tracking data and dramatic images circulating under the account Rerum Novarum, remain unverified, but the timing could not be more tense.

According to Flightradar24, multiple US military aircraft, including Growlers with callsigns like GRIZZLY and standard Super Hornets (RHINO), have been operating off Venezuela’s northern coast in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Venezuela since December 12. The jets’ movements — loitering and orbiting over the water — are consistent with surveillance, electronic intelligence, or deterrence missions.

00:00A flurry of online reports and social media posts has set off alarms across Venezuela,
00:25claiming that a U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler, an electronic warfare variant of the F-A-18 Super Hornet,
00:34may have neared or even entered Venezuelan airspace.
00:38The claims, fueled by intermittent flight tracking data and dramatic images circulating under the account Rerum Nova Rome,
00:47remain unverified, but the timing could not be more tense.
00:50According to Flight Radar 24, multiple U.S. military aircraft, including Growlers with call signs like Grizzly and standard Super Hornets,
01:01Rhino, have been operating off Venezuela's northern coast in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Venezuela since December 12.
01:09The jet's movements, loitering and orbiting over the water, are consistent with surveillance, electronic intelligence or deterrence missions.
01:18Some reports suggest that transponders were switched off during these flights,
01:23sparking speculation that the aircraft may have crossed into Venezuelan airspace.
01:28Experts caution, however, that black lines on flight trackers often represent extrapolated paths after a signal is lost,
01:37not confirmed positions, and misreading them can exaggerate perceived threats.
01:42Despite viral claims of jets heading toward Caracas, the capital lies roughly 300 to 400 kilometers inland,
01:51and no credible sources have confirmed flights reaching that far.
01:55Similarly, alleged footage posted online remains unverified, with no primary sources corroborating incursions.
02:02This comes as U.S. President Donald Trump announced a major escalation in America's campaign against drug trafficking in Latin America,
02:12signaling that land strikes will begin soon.
02:15Speaking at the White House on Friday, December 12,
02:19Trump said operations that have so far focused on the sea would now move onshore.
02:24I also want to ask about another country that you're targeting, which of course is Venezuela.
02:28Do you intend on seizing more oil assets from Venezuela?
02:32No, I wouldn't tell you that.
02:33I mean, it wouldn't be very smart for me to tell you that.
02:36You know, we're supposed to be a little bit secretive.
02:38You're a very big-time reporter, and I don't think I want to tell a big-time reporter or a small-time reporter that,
02:45but we are knocking out drugs at levels that nobody's ever seen before.
02:51We knocked out 96% of the drugs coming in by water,
02:56and nobody can figure out who the 4%.
02:59I wouldn't want to be the 4% either, but 96% of the drugs coming in by water.
03:04Every one of those boats you see get shot down.
03:07You just saved 25,000 American lives.
03:10But we knocked out 96% of the drugs coming in by water,
03:14and now we're starting by land, and by land it's a lot easier.
03:18And that's going to start happening,
03:19and we're not going to have people destroying our youth, destroying our families.
03:23Speaking about youth, everybody.
03:26You ever see a family with the fentanyl or cocaine?
03:29Colombia has at least three cocaine factories.
03:32That's a different country.
03:34We're not happy about it, but we're stopping it.
03:36And we've stopped it now on water.
03:39You don't even find boats on water.
03:40You don't even see fishing boats on water.
03:42You want to go fishing?
03:44Does anybody want to go fishing in that area?
03:47I don't think so.
03:48So I just want to say this.
03:52We have now a strong border.
03:54A year and a half ago, we had millions of people pouring through.
03:57Now we have nobody coming in through our border.
03:59And we have a strong country.
04:01We have a country that's respecting it.
04:03We're going to keep it that way.
04:04And we're not going to let people kill 300,000 people a year with drugs.
04:08Since September, the U.S. military has carried out 21 naval strikes against what it described
04:15as drug-smuggling boats in international waters off South America.
04:20According to Trump, these actions killed 83 people and sharply reduced the flow of drugs
04:26by sea.
04:27Still, the sight of U.S. jets near Venezuelan waters has heightened anxieties.
04:32The Growler, specialized in jamming radars, disrupting communications, and suppressing air defenses,
04:40plays a key role in broader operations rather than direct strikes.
04:44Its presence signals a serious message, especially as President Donald Trump recently declared
04:50upcoming land strikes targeting drug networks in the region.
04:54The U.S. frames these flights as routine operations in international airspace, while Venezuela disputes
05:01the claim, particularly around the Gulf, which it considers sovereign territory.
05:07For now, no shots have been fired, and tensions hover in the air like the Growlers themselves,
05:13visible, powerful, and uncomfortably close.
