In a dramatic and unexpected blow to former President Donald Trump, the Indiana Senate has rejected a GOP-drawn congressional map designed to give Republicans a significant advantage in the upcoming midterm elections. Despite intense pressure from Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and national Republican leaders—including threats of MAGA-backed primary challengers—the map failed in a decisive 31–19 vote.
The rejection came amid a wave of escalating harassment, violent threats, and swatting attempts targeting Indiana lawmakers who opposed the redistricting effort. Several Republican senators described receiving pipe bomb threats, false emergency reports, and intimidation tactics aimed at forcing their support. Ultimately, 21 Republicans joined all 10 Democrats in voting down the map, citing constituent opposition and concerns over dividing communities.
