00:00Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appeared in Kupyansk to debunk Russia's claims that it captured
00:05the frontline town.
00:07On Friday, the Ukrainian president posted a video from a bullet-riddled town signed
00:12at the entrance to Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region.
00:16His visit comes nearly a month after Russia's top general, Valery Garasimov, claimed Moscow's
00:21troops had taken the town.
00:24Kyiv rejected the claim and says National Guard units have counter-attacked north of
00:28Kupyansk and circling Russian forces.
00:31Geolocation analysis placed Zelenskyy less than two kilometers from Russian positions and
00:36within range of drones and artillery.
00:39Open source maps show that at least three nearby villages and Kupyansk northern districts remain
00:44under Ukrainian control.
00:46In his post, Zelenskyy said the reality speaks for itself and stressed that results on the
00:51battlefield are vital for diplomacy.
00:58Germany has summoned the Russian ambassador over election interference and cyberattacks
01:01on Friday.
01:02The foreign ministry attributed a major cyberattack on air traffic control last August to Russia's
01:07GRU-linked APT28 hacker group.
01:11Berlin also accused Moscow of running disinformation campaigns during February's SNAP elections through
01:16the Storm 1516 group.
01:19False claims targeted politicians like then-Vice-Chancellor Habeck and spread manipulated videos alleging postal
01:25vote fraud.
01:26Germany plans counter-measures including new EU sanctions against the perpetrators of such
01:31high-water attacks.
01:32US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order blocking states from crafting their
01:43own AI regulations warning that a patchwork of rules could stifle the industry.
01:50Trump argued that competing with China requires a unified approach saying there is only going
01:55to be one winner.
01:58The order directs the Attorney General to challenge state laws that threatens to withhold federal
02:03funding from states with conflicting AI rules.
02:07Meanwhile, billionaire David Sachs, Trump's AI policy lead, claimed the administration would
02:13target only onerous regulations, though critics argue that this removes vital oversight.
02:18states like California and Colorado have already passed laws addressing AI bias and transparency,
02:27which this federal move could now override.
02:33European investment bank president Nadia Calvino has called on the EU to stay united.
02:43Her comments on your news morning show Europe Today come after a week of political hammering
02:48from the US administration.
02:50Washington suggested the bloc is in decline and must reverse course to avoid what it called
02:55a civilizational erasure.
02:56What I feel these days is that I'm more proud than ever to be European.
03:02I think our values are our compass and they must be also underpinned in the new world order,
03:08which is in the making.
03:09And our unity is our strength.
03:11That's very clear when so many people are interested in dividing us and weakening the European Union.
03:17According to Calvino, Europe can no longer rely on the transatlantic alliance to remain the
03:22same as it has been for the last eight years and emphasized that it must build new partnerships worldwide
03:28and ensure that its economy stays strong.
03:31She added that in order to unleash its full economic potential,
03:34the EU should speed up the simplification of its rules while also further integrating European markets.
03:41The share of people in the EU who are unable to keep their homes warm has increased since Russia's invasion
03:50full blown of Ukraine sparked an energy crisis.
03:53According to Eurostat, more than 41 million people are unable to afford to keep their properties adequately warm,
04:00amounting to 9.2% of the population.
04:03In the EU, the share of people unable to keep their homes ranges from 19% in Bulgaria and Greece to 2.7% in Finland.
04:12Fueled poverty is mainly driven by three underlying root causes,
04:15a high proportion of household expenditures spent on energy, low income and the low energy performance of buildings.
04:22The share of people who are unable to keep their homes has been gradually declining since 2011
04:27and it reached its lowest level in 2019 and 2021 before rising again.
04:33Last year saw another decline.
04:35According to the Commission, this positive trend is the result of a reduction in gas and electricity retail prices
04:41and the implementation of energy efficiency measures.
