00:00Hello, oh my gosh, your hands are so big.
00:02I have like midget hands.
00:03Whoa.
00:04This is insane.
00:06Wait, let me give you the right side.
00:07That's pretty cool.
00:08This is ridiculous.
00:09Wow, nailed it.
00:10Nailed it.
00:11Well, anyway, congratulations.
00:13This is really exciting.
00:15How do you feel about being partners?
00:16How's the first few days of practice gone?
00:18So fun.
00:19How do you feel?
00:21It has been so much fun.
00:22We immediately started getting along.
00:23So that's good because that doesn't always happen and it's very important.
00:27Dancing has been very fun.
00:29And it's been so cool to see him get better every single day because day one,
00:33it wasn't something that was like already natural for him.
00:35It was something that we've really worked on already in a week.
00:37I've seen so much progress and it's just the beginning.
00:40So.
00:41And it's the same for me.
00:42I mean, people try to correlate football with dancing.
00:45Dancing is so much harder than football, all of the footwork,
00:47the things that you have to remember both sides of your brain,
00:49the left and the right, right?
00:51And I have a great teacher in Lindsay and she's been showing me so much,
00:54being patient with me for the last week.
00:56And I can see, I've seen like so much progression in what I've been doing.
01:00Well, there's been some really great football players that have been on the show.
01:04Have you chatted with any of them to get some advice or, you know, see, I mean, Rashad Jennings?
01:11Yeah, you know, I actually, Donald Driver was on the show.
01:14He's a close neighbor of mine, Vaughn Miller, I coach him, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irving,
01:19all those guys just have been chiming in and just helping out and saying that it's not all about the steps.
01:25You'll learn the steps, but how can you sell it?
01:28How can you sell it, you know, to the world and make them buy it, buy into it?
01:32And that's what Lindsay's helping me do.
01:34And how, has it been hard to be light on your feet?
01:38I mean, you're a football player, like you're.
01:40I'm answering that question right now, yes.
01:42It's been very, it's very hard to be light on my feet because at my position,
01:47I had big 350 pound guys coming at me, so I had to be more stable all the time, low on my feet.
01:53But then Lindsay comes in and say to Marcus, stay on your feet the whole time, straighten your legs.
01:58You got to have more sauce in it.
02:00I'm like, what?
02:01Are you kidding me?
02:02But it's been great changing and really just trying to perform now.
02:06So you are essentially coaching a professional athlete and you're a professional athlete yourself.
02:12How is it different than, you know, coaching someone who's not an athlete?
02:16How do you, do you take different precautions?
02:18Well, I think athletes know their limitations when it comes to physical activity.
02:23Like they know what their bodies can do and what they can't.
02:25And most of them are in pretty good shape.
02:27So that always is very helpful because coming into the show, we ask a lot of our partners.
02:31Like we ask a lot.
02:32I mean, already I'm having him throw him, throw me above his head and.
02:36You can't be that alive.
02:37I mean, that's how you can be that heavy.
02:39You can't be that hard.
02:40Well, with this guy, I mean, geez, he literally is just like, no problem.
02:44But it is a lot to ask, and so it's very great that he knows his body.
02:48He knows what he can take and he knows when it's too much.
02:51And but really, at this point, he hasn't said no to anything I've asked.
02:53And I love that about him.
02:55We've been working really hard for our practices with no breaks.
02:57I said we're here to compete and we're here to win.
03:00Yep.
03:01Did this change your perception of dancers at all?
03:04Like I knew that they were awesome from just looking at them.
03:08But now when you have to make your body do the same thing, that's the hard part.
03:12And then mentally, just the exhaustion of your brain.
03:16I was like, oh, my God, you have to remember all these steps.
03:19It's real.
03:21Is there any songs that you are really excited to dance to or that you really want to dance to this season?
03:26I don't know.
03:26What do you think?
03:28I mean, I don't know.
03:32We have a couple that we for sure are most likely going to dance to, but I'm not going to say them
03:35because it'll give anything away.
03:37But I think that music is so important.
03:39So I just want to make sure all the songs we do mean something to DeMarcus,
03:42because that's what resonates better with people at home.
03:45Are you excited for audiences to see you really vulnerable
03:49and kind of a different side of you that they might not know?
03:51I think that's the reason why I'm doing the show.
03:53Putting myself in uncomfortable situations and saying that you can be comfortable
03:58if you really want to do it, if you really get out there and compete.
04:00I've never done a dance move before in my life, but the thing is you can get coaching.
04:04If you have the willpower to get out there and do it and be different,
04:07that's what the world should accept.
04:08And that's what I'm trying to show this year.
04:12Well, thank you guys so much.
04:13Can we take a quick picture?
