00:00Bare naked, Mets don't even make offer as Alonzo Bolts for five years, $155 million for Orioles.
00:07You know what? Who cares?
00:08We watched the business side of the beginning of this breakup unfold last season, so I'm not.
00:13So you shouldn't be surprised that the Mets did not make this man an offer.
00:17Both of these parties knew where each side stood.
00:20Brendan Nimmo and Edwin Diaz leaving, that hurt.
00:24But David Stearns and crew allowing Pete to walk instead of being a Met Forever just made him the most hated man in Flushing since Chase Utley.
00:34But if we all can remove our feelings and emotions from it all just for one second, it makes sense from a business standpoint.
00:42This core won you absolutely nothing.
00:45But if we can all just remove our feelings and emotions from it all for one second, it makes sense from a business standpoint.
00:53This core won you nothing.
00:56Seven years Pete had with Edwin Diaz, Brendan Nimmo, and Jeff McNeil.
01:00And in those seven years, they won a total of eight playoff games, and they never even got past the NLCS.
01:07So if we can be real with ourselves for a second, and it's no disrespect to either one of those guys,
01:12but it's not like it's a championship core that's being broken up.
01:16It's not a dynasty that's being broken up.
01:19This core wasn't even a real threat in all of Major League Baseball.
01:22They needed a hit song, that purple thing from McDonald's Happy Meals, and some magic to spark runs and win games.
01:30Now, if they didn't re-sign Grimace, oh, David Stearns, I'd be sending in a stern email to you, sir.
01:36It's got me thinking, though.
01:37David Stearns has to have some sort of evil genius plan to attack the remainder of the offseason
01:44to replace moments and memories with wins and championships.
01:48But two things.
01:50Whoever you go get to replace these guys have to be winners, and they got to win right now.
01:56And that thank you Pete tribute video, that better win an Oscar.
02:00The Mets are going to be the talk of the town this offseason,
02:03so make sure you guys stay locked in with the coverage by heading over to newyorkpost.com slash sports.
