00:00the story isn't sports betting here on newswire it's got to be surrounding casinos here and it
00:05looks like sam at least according to the column that you guys have up at legal sports report.com
00:10that the state of new york could be in a better position to get this going maybe that's our big
00:15story for 2026 yeah it would certainly be be very big news if new york legalized online casino not
00:24just because you only have six states where i gaming is legal and not just because i gaming
00:29is really the end game for sports betting operators they want people to become sports betting
00:33users and then they want states to legalize i gaming and sell them on a much higher margin product but
00:39new york obviously is new york it's one of the biggest states so whatever happens there usually
00:43has a trickle down effect with other states we've certainly seen it in gaming when they raise taxes
00:48other states raise taxes when new york legalized sports betting more states tended to do that as
00:53well but with the the political environment in new york right now they just took care of licensing
01:00the state's three downstate casinos one is going to be near city field one is going to be near the
01:06aqueduct racetrack in queens the other a bally's location in bronx and the main component or the main
01:13proponent of gaming legislation in new york senator joseph adabo came out this week and said now that we have
01:18that taken care with uh taken care of it's a lot easier for us to focus on i gaming when in the past
01:24last year you even had senate leadership come out and say we're just not ready to do this we still have
01:29to work through the casino stuff we have a lot of other issues by the way they also just banned
01:34sweepstakes casinos which are essentially i gaming casinos that are not following the law because of a
01:40loophole and mechanism they just banned that so he also came out and said that you know that's another
01:44major step is before you can legalize something you have to crack down on the bad actors which we
01:49certainly saw with sports betting as well so he's going to have a bill that comes forward in 2026
01:54the next step will be to watch governor hochel's budget process whether i gaming is folded into
01:59there that would be that would make it a lot more easier easy for it to pass if it's going to be part of
02:04her plan to raise revenue they're going to have to still go through responsible gaming concerns
02:08safety concerns integrity concerns it's all very early on in the process but so far it looks like
02:15this is as good a year coming up as any for new york to legalize online casino legislation and it
02:21could always have a trickle down effect with sports betting legislation as well there's been talk of
02:25you know banning sports books from placing limits on bettors if they don't have to do with integrity or
02:32responsible gaming concerns and there's been some more talk of expanding new york sports betting market
02:37as well which i know operators would really hope happens so new york either way looks to be a big
02:42state for gaming legislation in 2026 we'll know more in about a month when the budget process starts
02:48and we'll keep watching throughout the whole process
