President Donald Trump has unveiled his $1 million “Gold Card” program, designed to keep top foreign graduates and talent in the United States. Addressing concerns from companies like Apple, Trump emphasized that many skilled individuals previously had to return to countries like India and China after graduation. The Gold Card allows both individuals and corporations to secure a path to U.S. citizenship for high-achieving students, promising full vetting, long-term residency, and a boost to the American economy. Trump described the initiative as a solution to the brain drain and a potential billion-dollar contribution to the U.S. Treasury.

00:00It's just been an interesting day from the standpoint of news.
00:06As you probably know, we've just seized a tanker
00:11on the coast of Venezuela, a large tanker, very large.
00:16Largest one ever seized, actually.
00:19And other things are happening, so you'll be seeing that later,
00:24and you'll be talking about that later with some other people.
00:26Very excitingly, for me and for the country,
00:31we've just launched the Trump gold card.
00:34It was about 30 minutes from now.
00:39The site goes up, and all funds go to the United States government.
00:44It could be a tremendous amount of money.
00:47It'll also be able to have people like this keep, as an example,
00:50just one example.
00:51There are a lot of examples, people just buying them.
00:54It's somewhat like a green card.
00:56But with big advantages over a green card.
01:00And companies are going to be able to go to the Wharton School of Finance,
01:06the Stern Business School, Harvard, MIT,
01:11wherever you may get your students, any school.
01:14And you're able to buy a card and keep that person in the United States, actually.
01:20So there's certainty, because a lot of, I've heard from Tim Cook of Apple,
01:26and I've heard from a lot of people, some of the people at this table,
01:30that essentially in the United States, you can't keep the student.
01:33You can't hire people from the best colleges,
01:36because you don't know whether or not you can keep the person.
01:39And they come and have the people get out.
01:42They throw the person out of the country.
01:44You graduate number one from your college.
01:45And there's no way of guaranteeing, I guess you could say,
01:50there's no way of guaranteeing that they're able to stay in the country.
01:53Howard, maybe you'll give a little description of the Trump gold card.
01:58So, for an individual, it's $1 million.
02:03And for a corporation, it's $2 million.
02:07And as the President said, for a corporation,
02:10they spend $2 million.
02:13They can then have an employee.
02:16Full vetting.
02:17The best vetting the government has ever done.
02:19$15,000 vetting to make sure these people
02:23absolutely qualify to be an American.
02:26Absolutely qualify.
02:28And then the company can keep them here.
02:31And they have a path to citizenship.
02:33Obviously, they have to be perfect people in America.
02:37And having passed the vetting, after five years,
02:40they'll be available to become citizens.
02:42And then the corporation can put someone else on the card.
02:45So, for a company, they can keep putting people on the card.
02:48One person per card.
02:50And for an individual, it's $1 million.
02:52And it's a gift to the United States of America
02:55to help America be great again on a big Donald Trump.
03:01And there are two gifts.
03:02It's a gift of getting somebody great coming into our country.
03:06Because we think these would be some tremendous people
03:09that wouldn't be allowed to stay.
03:11You know, they graduate from college.
03:12They have to go back to India.
03:13They have to go back to China.
03:14They have to go back to France.
03:16They have to go back to wherever they came from.
03:19Very hard to stay.
03:21It's a shame.
03:21It's ridiculous things.
03:23We're taking care of that.
03:24The companies are going to be very happy.
03:26I know Apple's going to be happy.
03:28But a lot of the companies, nobody talked to me more about it than Kim Cook.
03:35He said it's a real problem.
03:38And it's not going to be a problem anymore.
03:39As you know, they used to send people up to Canada
03:41and other places, other countries.
03:44So, we solved that.
03:45And the other thing is it will take in, we think,
03:47probably billions of dollars that will go to the Treasury of the United States.
03:52It will go to an account where we can do things positive for the country.
03:57So, it will be a great thing.
03:58We'll take it, I think, billions of dollars.
04:03Many billions of dollars, even.
04:06So, that's very exciting.
04:08My question is on the gold card.
04:11I apologize if I missed the answer to this.
04:13Is there a limit to how many gold cards these companies can buy?
04:17Howard?
04:18So, the program is part of the already approved visas.
04:23So, we're just going to have great people come into this country.
04:28You know, the average green card holder earned less than the average American.
04:34So, they were more likely to be on the dole and be on our assistance programs than average Americans.
04:41And the idea is from President Trump, he wants to raise it, bring in the best people into America.
04:46So, same visas, but now just full of the best people.
04:52Basically, it's a green card, but much better.
04:56Much more powerful.
04:58A much stronger path.
05:00And a path is a big deal.
05:02Have to be great people, but much stronger path.
