00:49:03And that's the end of the episode, okay.

00:49:05So through that whole monologue from Wen Cushing,

00:49:09I kept getting scared that he was, like, reverting back to a point where he was like,

00:49:15yeah, I am gonna get revenge on everyone and kill everyone, like, for real.

00:49:20But a lot of times, I think when, like, Chinese gets translated,

00:49:24they don't always do the tense the same way.

00:49:27So a lot of the times what he was saying, like, he was saying,

00:49:31I felt like this and then I felt like this and then at the end when he's like,

00:49:35but, you know, why did fate give me this person who's a connection to the human world?

00:49:42So at the end of it all, he's like, I still feel like I want to do this,

00:49:46but I have something that is stopping me or at least giving me pause.

00:49:50And it was like, I was having a- it's like, he would say another thing and I would be like,

00:49:54is that- is that how he feels right now?

00:49:56Is he back to, like, just wanting everyone to die?

00:49:59And I mean, if he has a momentary moment where he's like, like, I wouldn't be surprised if in a future episode

00:50:05he has a moment like that and then he changes his mind again,

00:50:08but I would love to not have to experience that preferably.

00:50:13So we'll see, but it was really...

00:50:16I kept being like, wait, what? Which way do you feel right now?

00:50:21Uh, but now I- I think I understand.

00:50:24Yeah, it makes sense now that he's like, I'm not worthy,

00:50:29and what if my parents and the master and these other people, like, see me from heaven?

00:50:36So it's kind of like, does he believe in an afterlife or not?

00:50:39For him it's more of like, believing in an afterlife could be more painful

00:50:44because then those people can like, see what his life has been like and what he's done.

00:50:48Spoiler alert, if you are a weirdo like me who watches, like, reactions to a show before you're done with it,

00:50:56because sometimes I have been watching, like, reactions to, like, you know, the episodes I've already seen,

00:51:01but spoiler alert ahead if you are like me and you do that,

00:51:05because I have been kind of spoiled for the very ending.

00:51:09Um, it had to do with, like, the last episode and then the little supplement at the end,

00:51:14but I'm like, 99% sure that they both die and then they both, like, meet again in some kind of afterlife.

00:51:23So knowing that that is the ending, um, and- and also I'm unfortunately a little bit more spoiled,

00:51:31because there might be something where Wen Cushing earlier on, like, dies and comes back before the ending ending.

00:51:39There- there was something I saw that it looked like that and I was like,

00:51:44nooo, look away, but I- but I looked.

00:51:48So I- I think that might happen, you know, earlier on even than, like, the ending ending.

00:51:54But knowing, like, after seeing this episode, knowing what the very end kind of has in store,

00:52:01I can see, like, another strong theme, I guess, of this show.

00:52:06Which I wouldn't say is necessarily, like, oh, yes, believe in an afterlife.

00:52:12Like, it- whether or not it's, like, a literal thing, I think, at least, doesn't really matter as much as, like-

00:52:18I think there's just some ideas about, like, accepting death and, like, the cycle of life.

00:52:25And if you do believe in that stuff, the idea that, like, there are certain people that your, like,

00:52:33fates are tied and you will, like, see them again even if you lose them at a certain point.

00:52:39But, yeah, because there's been a theme where I've been seeing, like, okay,

00:52:42I think one of these themes is, like, accepting death in terms of Wen Cushing, like,

00:52:47trying to accept Joseph Shue's, like, impending death.

00:52:52Although I also want to point out it was interesting whether- I can't remember if it was this episode

00:52:56or the last one where Joseph Shue actually said something about, like,

00:53:00oh, you know, and if the immortal, like, does have a treatment for me.

00:53:04Like, he actually kind of more accepted the possibility of that and- and regarded it positively.

00:53:12But he still well knows that that is an unsure thing.

00:53:18And now that the word is out, I don't think that's gonna happen anyway.

00:53:23But I'm not sure. Maybe the immortal guy will come around.

00:53:27But I just feel like that's, like, because the way that this story could go,

00:53:32either he gets healed but then something happens and he dies anyway

00:53:38or he just never gets healed because something didn't work out

00:53:42or the immortal was like, I won't do this favor anymore for the, you know, Ghost Valley Chief.

00:53:48I think this- the latter is more likely.

00:53:51But I don't know exactly how it's gonna go down.

00:53:53And I don't know if it'll be, like, the immortal disagreeing

00:53:56or if he'll eventually come around, be understanding,

00:54:00but they just find out that there's not actually a way to do it

00:54:04without some kind of terrible sacrifice or something.

00:54:07So I can see going forward, like, part of the progression

00:54:11and part of, I guess, like, Wen Cushing, like,

00:54:14respecting the situation that Joe Zishu is in

00:54:18will be, like, him having more acceptance of death

00:54:22and maybe, like, accepting the idea or the possibility of an afterlife more.

00:54:27Yeah, I- that, when I think about, like, what we've been presented in the show already

00:54:33and where things are going, the gravesite scene and his monologue,

00:54:39that just really- that just really delivered.

00:54:42It just brought some things home.

00:54:44It showed why he was feeling a certain way about a lot of different things

00:54:48and that he's still struggling immensely with the kind of, like, revenge, like, bloodlust stuff.

00:54:58But he's clearly- he's starting to either get past it

00:55:03or it's just that, like, well, there's kind of a wrench in all of that.

00:55:07And the fact that he's there acknowledging that there's a wrench in all of that

00:55:13is, like, really significant, I think.

00:55:16And so it's just another step in his increasing, like, closeness to humans and humanity.

00:55:23And I've been thinking about what the colors of the robes mean

00:55:26and I was thinking a lot about his pink robe with, like, the red collar.

00:55:31And it really makes sense to me if the red is, like, well, yes, that's Ghost Valley Chief.

00:55:37The first time we saw him was in, like, a fully red robe.

00:55:40Evil, bloodlust, blah blah blah.

00:55:42Having signs of that.

00:55:44Like, him having signs of that outwardly on him and, like, very noticeable.

00:55:49But the main color of the robe is pink, which is similar to purple.

00:55:54And we've gone from a darker purple to, like, a lighter purple lavendery thing

00:56:00to, like, pink, but now it's pink with red.

00:56:04So I feel like that has something to do with a meshing of his, like, two sides.

00:56:12That the pink being similar to purple, I think it similarly has something to do with vulnerability

00:56:19and getting closer to, like, humans and humanity.

00:56:22And the red is, like, he's showing more of himself or...

00:56:28He still has a way to go before it's, like, he's accepting more of himself.

00:56:31But he's, like, showing more of himself and he is open or maybe more open to sharing things about himself.

00:56:40And I think there's a message in there somewhere about just, like, integrating the bad side of yourself with the good side

00:56:49and, like, regarding yourself as a whole person and not in, like, black and white good or evil terms.

00:56:57And also not seeing yourself, like, you know, split.

00:57:00And the fact that he even talks about how he would imagine or dream that Zhenyan was, like, a different person than him.

00:57:09And I don't think by the end he's gonna be like,

00:57:12I'm going back to the name Zhenyan or I'm accepting that name.

00:57:16I could be wrong.

00:57:17But I think it's still important for him to have his own name and his own identity and, like, assert that.

00:57:23But I just mean, like, there's this sort of, like, personality, like, integration that has to happen for him.

00:57:31This was interesting as an episode because I thought we were going to get into some of the action about everyone being exposed more quickly.

00:57:40And then it turned out that we were like, everyone's thinking about this and we're worried about it and the word is out.

00:57:48But it's not, it's not coming to, like, Wen Qixing and Zhou Zishu yet.

00:57:52But it's almost there.

00:57:53So I'm sure we're gonna get into a lot of that in the next episode.

00:57:57But that was yet another surprising thing that this show has done because they set you up to think that, like, we were gonna be right in it.

00:58:05But we kind of had a moment first.

00:58:07And finally, finally we got the rescue of Xiaolian.

00:58:12We have good guy Shen Shen.

00:58:14I know he's complicated right now, but it's completely and totally reasonable for him to be like, uh-oh, Ghost Valley, bad.

00:58:23But he chose Mercy twice and Xiaolian basically gave, like, what might be one of the most important thematic, like, pivotal lines in the show about, like, you know, getting revenge and, like, killing more people isn't actually going to fix what's happening right now.

00:58:46And it's not going to heal anyone.

00:58:51So we had, like, these two, like, big acts of mercy.

00:58:56And we learned more about, um, Hong Liu and Hong... Hong Lao? Hong something?

00:59:02I'm a little unsure who their son was because I was like, well, is their son Rong Xuan?

00:59:07Like, is he this whole important person who famously got killed in this situation?

00:59:12But I don't know why they would go by Hong instead of Rong.

00:59:16So he might be someone else?

00:59:18Maybe we'll find out more.

00:59:20So, yeah, a bunch of things are going to happen.

00:59:23Xiaolian was finally rescued.

00:59:26Finally.

00:59:27Finally.

00:59:28Thank goodness.

00:59:29She deserves everything.

00:59:30Everything good.

00:59:31And we got more, like, Gu Xiang, like, trying to cope with who she is and who Cao Wei Ning is.

00:59:39But she hasn't told him yet, but she's thought about it.

00:59:43And that seems like where both Xi and Wen Qixing are at.

00:59:46They're like, well, I haven't told you yet, but I've really, really thought about who I am in this situation.

00:59:53And the fact that this is a conflict, and I think that's just another thing of, like, they're getting closer to things being revealed or actually saying the thing.
