00:06best bed and breakfast the keys to their own dream five-bedroom bmb
00:12four expert judges put them under the spotlight slightly chaotic as they say up north the
00:22competition has been so tough this week they did drop the ball pretty pretty pretty badly
00:27across two weeks they hosted real guests and tackled intense challenges every day
00:34look at it stop asking me questions i've posed it all up again
00:39at which point do we start to panic now six couples have become four
00:47no actually actually thank you so much this week the final four will be pushed to their limits
00:59they have to do everything right this week the competition is fiercer than ever now you're real
01:05owners are here how do you spell team love breast forgotten tomatoes don't panic because at the end
01:11of this week someone will walk away with a new life in france you have won the bed and breakfast
01:19previously it's wowsers the hosts were out and about it's bigger than our first black
01:27but emotions ran high at the b&b
01:31crap is this room's nearly set i had a cry it was good revolting
01:38good how are we good and the judges didn't hold anything back they're sweet they're very sweet
01:46that's not enough
01:47it's a new dawn as the finalists reach the halfway point in their battle to prove the prize b&b should
02:05be theirs yesterday was really nice so i really enjoyed it it went as well as what we could have
02:11made it go far for ourselves so well it's not over yet we feel like we've got a point to prove
02:18you know because people might look at us and think oh they're very young and but we really really
02:22want to do this and we want to do it well so we want some of it parsley i've got oh these are
02:29just plants aren't they this is it this is what we want this is our new life yes embrace it
02:35this is oh yeah oh there's a wee bookshop oh there's a wee cookery book like a wee french
02:41cookery book we do put 150 into everything into work and it's about time that we reap the rewards
02:48instead of someone else i think that with everything that we've done in the past it's come together
02:55and it's now isn't it yeah we're like we're ready yeah
03:04the finals week is gathering momentum
03:07it just felt like home sleeping here didn't it yeah it did i was knocked out i slept really really well
03:14nicole and brett are the second hosts to have the judges staying overnight watching their every move
03:21so guys does the house feel different with different hosts it does and thank god it does
03:28because otherwise it'll be boring it just shows that different hosts make a different business
03:34the one thing that's been bugging me that i really want to know more about is them there's just something
03:40missing and it's a bit of flair from them it's a bit more of them it's the last 12 hours to impress
03:49though really so i'll be the hostess with the most s but you keep me right today i want you to take the
03:55lead you know the judges are now ready should we go down to breakfast come on then pet to put nicole
04:04and brett's breakfast to the test let's go from heat weeks i guess we came across a wee bit too
04:13formal and we want to create that family friendly like homely vibe taking a hint from the judges in heat
04:20week the couple shopped at the market for ingredients yesterday managed to get these
04:26from the butchers at the market but i did say thin bread so they are very thick and there's some bones
04:34in it as well i'm gonna fry it all up anyway you can have some good morning good morning eva how did you
04:42sleep yes very good on you good during the heat week the breakfast at nicole and brett's house
04:48was very good she's an excellent cook actually but i think she's put a lot of pressure on herself
04:54she have so many cooked options good morning good morning how are you pretty and pink both of you
05:01i think i like men in pink i think it shows a great deal of self-confidence
05:06i think i would like to see her do a little less cooking and a bit more hosting good morning
05:13good morning they couldn't put a foot wrong with the breakfast except we didn't see them
05:21what they did was brilliant yeah it really was but i'd rather have a more relaxed environment
05:27yeah totally brett set breakfast in the terrace this morning so you guys are going to go 38 yeah
05:34yeah fantastic coffee sounds fantastic while nicole and brett are about to discover how well their
05:42breakfast goes down okay i'll get some teas and coffees for you know me and nicole come out join you as
05:47well thank you that's great justin and paul are having breakfast on the patio at chaise yellow
05:55bon appetit yes bon appetites enjoy this is all you heidi yes actually today there is some yellow
06:03plums in there which um we shook off the tree yesterday so yeah that's the one of one of the
06:10things that we were thinking about wasn't it was the property's got some raised beds at the moment
06:15we were thinking about you know like planting out stuff yeah you know like for the guests
06:20this is their chance to build their business plan by quizzing hosts heidi and anthony i think this
06:28is big for a regular continental sort of ticking every box isn't it is you've got bread and croissants
06:34for the french cereals for the english and we do it full english as well as an optional extra someone
06:39asks yes if somebody asks yes we do that do i notice you haven't got cheese we don't put cheese out
06:46no and we haven't actually had any guests request it yeah cheese or or meat oh right that's
06:54interesting isn't it because we were thinking we need to put cheese on there and and me but we found
06:59that the french guests who come preferred all the fruity side well i found that when i did a big bowl
07:04of fruit guests were being very polite and just taking a little bit yeah whereas when i do the individual
07:10bowls it's always gone thank you for um such a lovely breakfast we i think we better
07:16start getting our things ready to go yeah yes our pleasure it's lovely to have you yeah okay
07:23they've made it a really welcoming space she's really clearly got a really good eye and you can
07:28feel it it's got it's got a really it's got a really good contemporary vibe and uh and it works
07:35there isn't a one-size-fits-all in this is there yeah and that's the thing what we've learned i think
07:41today is that they've they have returned customers because they like the way that they yeah the way
07:46that they do their thing yeah yeah with plenty of food for thought paul and justin can head off in
07:54search of more ideas for their own bmb meanwhile the heat is now on for nicole and brett i am stressing
08:03about the the bacon but it's fine just how thick it is but it's cooking off all right but i think it's
08:12because we're not used to it maybe what do we think of the selection um it's a bit underwhelming
08:23i do like to start the day with a yogurt yeah i do as well to be fair and in france i think a lot of
08:30people do as well coffee some tea and coffee oh wow that's what we all need in the morning
08:39have you had your coffee yet i've had yeah a small one i'm gonna have probably about another liter
08:44yeah do you happen to have any yogurt at all yes we do for nicola and i just a little bit thank you
08:52okay all right if i get three eggs on then i'll be good to go try them just open them in case no
09:00it's just waste then okay yeah just open them yeah um it's waste if you open them
09:06you just told me to open them you're good oh superstar thank you i'll put them over here just
09:16for space and then thank you very much yes thank you bro all right
09:23to the grand dame mercy buckets the queen bee
09:30at this stage in the competition the judges won't be holding back
09:34one irish breakfast lovely lovely and french yeah i'll get another egg on
09:42steaks are really really high this week they've only really got a short window
09:46to show us what they can do and show us how eager they are to win this amazing prize
09:52of the uh breakfast the bacon is very thick it's the french style one is it tasty it is really tasty
09:59our standards of judging it are going to be that much higher this week because the prize is so
10:07great wow oh fantastic thank you ah and cayenne and cayenne fantastic thank you oh it's got cayenne on it
10:20one thing all the hosts have had to cater for is brennan's allergy to oats it looks gorgeous i just
10:26have one quick question there's no oats in this bread are there that's a good question
10:33i actually couldn't tell you
10:42the next couple to take the reins of the prize house today are michelle and steve
10:48right we're off thank you thank you au revoir they're at a nearby market to try and prove they
10:54can cook a dinner using local produce we've come to the market because i think it'll be a bit cheaper
11:01anyway we're like a good market we're looking for fresh produce yes we are we're going to price if
11:06they've got goat's cheese and things like that and produce and then if it's too expensive um we're
11:12going to go to the supermarket we are from bansley dinner is a vital income source for bmbs in this
11:20area but in heat weeks the couple didn't impress one of the biggest failures for me was the curry and
11:27i've done that for years however because it's different ingredients what we should have done
11:32is done a local meal so that's what we're going to do in it french dishes starter main
11:40and then a bit of english for the last bit my french is fluent oh go on then give us a spiel
11:48one orange no one smaller tomato
11:56it's a try yeah i'm good it was the couple's inimitable hosting style that won over their guests
12:02in heat week though some judges had a few reservations about their approach
12:07nicola did say to turn it down a little bit and i do slightly disagree nicola because
12:17this is who i am oh look chickens chickens oh let's have a look so won't worry and we've got our new
12:23prize home we will get the chickens i'll be running around chasing chickens for eggs and that do you know i
12:29mean come on let's get the eggs we've listened and taken the advice all on board absolutely turn
12:37it down i bought a big roll of gaffer tape
12:40is that strong no yeah go on then we're taking your word for it we've got judges tonight and if
12:49it goes wrong it's your fault anyway everyone just nothing of that no i know it won't
12:56in a few hours michelle and steve will take over the prize house
13:00and have their chance to prove there's more to them than meets the eye
13:05we're not nervous about the judges coming as your guests because you know what they're going to get
13:08to know us because they think we're this fun loving couple we are but they don't realize that like
13:15i've got a knitting business steve's got his own business and we're very very clever people so watch
13:20this space
13:21as michelle and steve are keen to get going nicole and brett's time is coming to an end
13:32the only thing i need to ask is if there are oats in this bread they come from the market
13:38did they say what type it was was the sourdough a sourdough so it's less likely it's not gonna have
13:43oats no i'll try a little bit no problem hello hello how's everyone finding their breakfast lovely
13:52lovely here i'll get you one and i have a lovely yogurt myself do you mind us joining you this morning
13:59after breakfast nicole and brett have one last chance to prove they've got more to offer
14:04by taking the judges on a day trip paddle boarding you can all swim though can you yeah good
14:10it's always good to try something new and it's something for the kids that's why i purposely had
14:16avocado and not the full irish just in case i sunk instead i think the location for breakfast was very
14:23well chosen beautiful out there you know around the garden with all the birds the bees and huge
14:29improvement in service thank you so much lovely we'll see you at 10 30 absolutely thank you nicole
14:37as the brains and brett is the heart and the more we can get brett to come out of his shell i think
14:43will soften the uh residents are feel that we have brennan did ask about the bread did have oats in it but
14:54no i don't it was walnut there was other bread you could offered should have done that
15:00breakfast was very good in terms of their hosting skills this morning i found them a lot more at least and
15:07even more comfortable than last night i think they were very relaxed certainly more relaxed and during
15:11the heat week i'm beginning to think how much of a team we are you know yeah we're doing good
15:21but the plates were empty again yeah that's a great sign isn't it i think they they love your cooking
15:27i still feel a nagging sense of i haven't got them i haven't plumbed their depths and i really want
15:38to i really want to see the real nicole and the real brett and the only chance to do that now
15:46lies entirely on the day trip
15:53being in the prize house reality has really really sunk in brett and i just want it you know we're this
15:59close
16:04right let's go as the door closes at the prize house for nicole and brett
16:09well we're here this is it this is our new home it opens for the next couple hoping to make it their
16:16own honey i'm home in three hours michelle and steve will welcome the judges as their guests
16:26i'm going to start the brownie while you're going to debate the bedrooms yes dear
16:30what was that who'll be looking for a bnb concept that's every bit as unique as they are the usp
16:40really didn't come across in the last week um still not sure what it was other than i heard the words
16:46crafting in the heat weeks you didn't really see a lot of my crafting so i think it's time for me to
16:54shine michelle's cleverness with crafts with felting with knitting which are making a huge
17:03comeback particularly with young people now that could be something that they could use
17:07to their advantage here this is what i'm going to teach them to do oh it's got a bit squash but this
17:12is what we're going to do so it goes like that so we're all going to make a little one of them today
17:20we know that michelle loves her crafts and we know that steve's brilliant at his towel art i like to
17:27be creative and if it all helps someone to enjoy their stay this week all the rooms are pre-cleaned
17:35and ready for the judges allowing the host to add finishing touches and concentrate on cooking dinner
17:42i'm gonna make me brownie what we've gone for is not complicated but it's really nice
17:47one of the weaker aspects of the stays at michelle and steve's were dinner they went for supermarket
17:54produce and there was issues the spice intensity so that's going to go in and melt now
18:01easiest chocolate brown in it world they were obviously in a position where they were a bit
18:05stressed and they didn't know what produce they were dealing with i am chopping the onion for the main
18:11cast which is going to be mustard chicken that were another thing wasn't it we weren't sure because
18:17it's different mustard in it but french is famous for mustard anyway please let's not have a disaster
18:24this time because you're gonna have four very hungry people at the table and those four hungry people
18:30might just have your future in their hands three tablespoons full of mustard
18:38it's all that one one it's gonna be like mercury that
18:47meanwhile nicole brett and the judges are about to set off on their paddle boarding day trip
18:53the hosts have all chosen their own day trips to show off the kind of things they could offer guests
18:58tell us about how you found this this excursion for us because we want to sort of promote that family
19:05life and uh you know a family-run business we just thought we'd do something that was you know an
19:11activity that you do as a family paddle boarding might be a bit extreme for some people um but there's
19:18a lovely beach as well so there's loads to do 30 minutes away is lac de vasivier right okay we all ready
19:26yes the wetsuits are ready the changing rooms are just inside here the women are on the left the
19:31men are on the right there's cubicles in there but they've got no lock on them so no going in 12
19:35anywhere else okay again no big in the glass a beauty spot that draws visitors from across europe
19:43oh well looking good
19:48shows off the temple and where's nicola

20:09loved it loved every minute of it Brett's very confident you know you feel in safe hands he's
20:25got huge muscles we've seen his arms I'm up it's like going paddle boarding with Popeye we weren't
20:32here to be educated and informed we were here to have fun and we did have fun okay
20:38this excursion was such a great idea and I don't think I was expecting them to be so prepared for
20:53it as well they've never been here it's the first time they're actually in the region and
20:57was just really well organized their hosting skills was actually amazing
21:01the best part was they've opened up as well they were hilarious they were really funny and I feel
21:11I feel like I want 24 hours more with them yeah I was just about to say we need another day with
21:17them to see the real and that's kind of the shame because that was the point of these last 24 hours
21:23so I mean it's not a lot of time so they know they've got to bring it and they did bring it on
21:27many many many levels I feel conflicted Nicole and Brett have done everything they can but their time in
21:35the hot seat is over and they won't see the judges until they present their business plan at the end
21:41of the week we're sad to be leaving and checking out we've had the most amazing time haven't we yeah
21:46it's been brilliant and yeah we've just put our all into 110 percent so we just have to leave it in the
21:52judges hands now we've tried our best have I got time for one more swim no lunchtime go on one more
22:01last one go on then should we just leave her here yeah we'll be back tomorrow just leave her
22:09back at the prize b&b oh it smells nice steve michelle and steve are preparing for their moment in
22:22the spotlight I am so organized it's unreal I organize michelle because she's just chaos oh
22:30I'm a really and the hosts have a firm idea of how they plan to impress the judges Nicola is so
22:39switched on on luxury and all that sort of thing either she goes in or tell she knows what you're
22:43serving and what what's good and what's not whereas the boys is more the business they just want a bit
22:51longer right see in a minute the judges are on their way now then where can I put this and during
23:03finals week they'll be expecting to see something very different from their hosts I think both of us
23:10would like to see them really think about their guests experience I like that that's quirky that in
23:18it I really want to see how they adapt to us as big guests yep we've listened take that boys thank
23:32michelle and steve strength they're very keen to entertain and I think it's also their weakness in a
23:40way because too much can affect the guests I think this is a bit like faulty towers really in a girl as you
23:52gay I'm gonna come and check it I hope she's calmed down just a little bit a little more focused and a
24:00little less excitable a lot is at stake here with michelle and steve because I think that's the area where
24:06it'll be a make a break for them oh where that's well I've been stirring it that's how it all left when I come to it
24:13in the limousel it's michelle and steve's moment to shine
24:32oh as they welcome the judges to the prize b&b
24:39in heat week their overnight guests were blown away by michelle and steve's exuberant personalities
24:51by staying over the judges can now experience it for themselves to determine if they're the best host
24:58to win so welcome if you'd like to we'll show your rooms we'll help you with cases and then if you
25:07want to come down when you're ready I'm gonna get you doing something I hope it's not the dishes
25:12there you go it's in there and I'll follow you in oh thank you see what you do is you look from here

25:53she was as bubbly and energetic as expected I think we're in for an exciting and eventful
26:13stay today I don't know whether they've taken any notice of anyone saying try and tone it down a bit
26:19um but that's sort of what I love about them how you guys are we raring to go I feel a bit nervous
26:31all of a sudden while steve prepares the food michelle has lined up a little pre-dinner
26:38entertainment for the judges you're all gonna make one of these oh that's the insult right with her own
26:48knitting business Michelle hopes craft workshops could be a part of her new life here what I want
26:54you to do is just put that on there for a minute put that on your knee okay so I want you to just
26:59cross it like that can you see yeah that's it right so we've all got a stitch that's your first stitch
27:08okay so that now just pull it through that is gonna go there from the back to the front and over front to
27:16back it's sad when you're watching people and it's just right so that's it yeah so all you're gonna
27:22do yep go back so you've got three on you've all got three on yeah wait a minute so come here let me
27:29have a look at you right this is just gonna be it wrong I'm very confused now so bring that through
27:36right yeah and put it like that right look watch right we'll do it together I'll do it with Nicola
27:44yeah I'll do it when you do mine and I'll just sit yeah the thing is right it's not ads it's not
27:52it's just getting your head around it look we've done Eva she's not only a paddle boarding expert
27:57she's a pan knitting expert as well thanks for trying guys I'd really wanted you to know what I do
28:03while Michelle and Steve field crafts could give them an edge in the competition Nicola and Roy want
28:16to build their business around home-cooked food so they're going to stay at a B&B with a similar focus
28:22hopefully we'll get lots of little tips and tricks along the way just keep our eyes and ears open
28:30we could add things to the business plan they're visiting spruce lake a three-bedroom
28:37chambre d'hote less than an hour from the prize house where chef Alison and husband Mark offer evening meals
28:46look they've got a lake wow oh hello yeah all right it's welcome spruce day time Alison thank you nice to
28:56meet you oh what's the name Roy hi Roy nice to meet you and Nicola hello Nick nice to meet you so
29:00thank you so much thank you so this is room you have tea and coffee in this drawer for Roy obviously there's a
29:12a hair dryer for all you I'm glad you noticed Alison I'm glad you noticed right and this is your
29:18en suite you've got shampoo shower gel obviously towels I love it matching toilet well yeah just
29:26make yourself feel at home thank you to feel thank you very much where do you see what we don't have
29:32to ask because it says tariff 80 euros for a night very good we keep changing the price of I think we're
29:41too low and then we think we're too high yeah at the end of the week every couple's business plan
29:48will be closely scrutinized with no experience in running a B&B Nicola and Roy are looking for
29:55inspiration it's lovely isn't it it's gorgeous oh look it does happen in teas oh it's a good idea that is a good
30:03idea wonder how many eggs you get today I don't know we're definitely having chicken swaves out that'll
30:13take away a lot of the food waste oh yeah we'll give them food and they can give us eggs yeah
30:18absolutely oh my goodness I love patient probably don't get the time to do it no you don't you do
30:29seven you won't get the time either if we own a B&B I know tonight Nicola and Roy will be served a
30:35three-course meal because offering dinners is a great money spinner for B&B's meanwhile Justin and
30:41Paul are also in search of culinary inspiration they want to combine fine art with fine food I'm
30:48looking forward to this here yeah pretty good so they're visiting a goat and sheep farm they hope may
30:54be able to supply their dream B&B carol and her family produce sheep and goat cheese for many local
31:07businesses to subsidize income from overnight stays it's not happening Justin and Paul are considering
31:27offering cheese boards as an optional extra wow yes yes sure yeah because hot hot today Justin and
31:49Paul are keen to see the process what you think Paul I think we read it I think we're ready so they can
31:56inform their guests to totally so matter yeah and we get okay pull it down let's go really say
32:09yeah slowly okay okay okay and now it's time to see what cheese they could offer which one
32:26would we used us I like the cumin because I loved it well I love cooking with cumin don't I this one
32:31and this one just do a mix because that's the thing isn't it's to put some out and you see what goes
32:35okay reaction Carol seems to have a really nice business with the family the farm feels really
32:41friendly and also one of the things is with her she like prefers to sell to smaller yeah sellers she
32:49prefers more of a personal thing too yeah which is our vibe yeah so maybe we'll be back Carol we will take
32:59it all back at the prize house Michelle and Steve and they're just minutes away from dinner you need to
33:10get it in the coming down the cheese needs to be in love it takes a long time don't panic just step
33:16aside let me see to it will you this is olive oil and tarragon and I think they'll enjoy this
33:26just checking I've got things then is it warm is the cheese warm it's all right like that it's fine
33:34that's fine right we're ready oh what for dinner we've got also so this is ghost cheese on sourdough
33:46mixed with olive oil red onion and some tarragon oh that ghost cheese is that the charcoal goats we've
33:54been and got it today from the market very special guests we got well I know I'm wondering right then
34:04come this way right in heat week Michelle and Steve disappointed their guests and judge Ava with a
34:12a curdled curry but with this prize house on the line tonight second best won't do I think in terms
34:21of their dinner not only there were issues with the execution side of things but they didn't really
34:26take into account the local area so I'm really hoping it's something they've worked on keep it simple
34:31and if it does go wrong own it yeah anybody can stay anywhere but food isn't the only thing the
34:41judges will be putting under the spotlight what I'd like to see from Michelle and Steve is perhaps a
34:47little karma right oh sorry ladies first I'm not right good am I right there you go thank you it is a
34:54huge prize for one lucky couple you know and they have to bring the a-game I didn't get any tomatoes
35:02did you don't get any tomatoes because I did tomorrow oh let me have a look what's he doing he's not doing it
35:08Nicola did that on a purpose you've not put any tomatoes on Nicholas
35:12there you go sweetest that's for both of you sweetest in the sleepy village of Fenye
35:30Michelle and Steve are hosting the most important dinner party of their lives right would you like
35:36some wine pouring we're not very good on wine we're learning right so we asked a guy he said
35:42that this one's very eco type thing so we thought right we'll get that no not yet I'm gonna have it
35:52later the trouble is you see either with me it's like I get a bit louder tonight they've ditched the
35:59curry and are serving a main grounded in local produce we're running a bit over because Michelle
36:05likes to rub it on thank you it's both lovely so we decided and this time I thought we're gonna go
36:16French when we first went back home we researched popular dishes when we came across this one which
36:23was a mustard chicken and it appealed to us because we both like chicken because there's half a bottle of wine in
36:30there as well two glass folds where's the other half I've been having that round there why you want it in
36:39okay I'm gonna be absolutely honest I know that you're performing a little bit at the moment yeah yeah
36:44sometimes you're putting on you're putting on the show yeah yeah yeah and for us the biggest challenge of
36:50being with you for 24 hours yeah is getting to know because we are a fun loving couple but you
37:00want to see that side of the business side like we're very clever people you know like so you're
37:05not just a pretty face having the judges for 24 hours is giving Michelle and Steve the chance to
37:13showcase all their ideas from crafting workshops to a magical welcome gift so now yes
37:20we're going to give you a little gift oh yes hey ready this is an easy one for you really count nice and
37:27slow 26 I want you to cut as deep or as shallow as you like and just pick it up and put those in your
37:36card box face down just like that that's lovely that we're all of in a moment now aren't we
37:42down the road Nicola and Roy are grilling their own hosts about running a b&b well obviously your
37:52background helped you Alison you know being a chef immensely I'm also a chef so hopefully we'll be
37:58able to introduce the tablet out yeah home baked everything home baked that's what people come back
38:04for as well because if you're going to do dessert or a main course or a cake it's homemade it's not
38:11out of a packet and people know the difference with food on their minds they're casting a critical eye
38:19over dinner and how they can build their own menu into their business plan table for tea like it you're
38:26like it you're tired darling you don't do that at home no I don't I'm so looking forward to this
38:33you I'm starving I'm starving too don't check the cutlery stop checking the cutlery no I like things
38:38you're a nightmare oh lovely wow thank you so much there you go right so you've got chicken cooked in
38:46white wine with spinach parmesan on the top green beans with garlic new roast potatoes and carrots
38:53cooked in orange oh wow beautiful bon appétit thank you so much thank you thank you oh presentation is
39:01absolutely gorgeous oh wow delicious very good lovely there's plenty of weight weighing it out
39:12oh that's amazing and the dishes are warm yep and the plate's hot plate's hot you know what my pet hate
39:24is hot food on cold plates well this one knows their stuff definitely so hopefully she'll teach us a few
39:31things back at the prize house Michelle and Steve are still taking center stage right a bit of pods so
39:45this is homemade brownie raspberries and some ice cream thank you you've got some stiff competition
39:52because Andrew's brownies are one of the best I've ever tried all right then there's always one in there

43:44their hearts into today but there's stiff competition tomorrow could topple even the most skilled hosts as
