00:00Look at this view Brett.
00:01I can't believe we're here.
00:03Yay!
00:04Stunning.
00:05Now the chance to make it real begins.
00:08Welcome to the first bed and breakfast.
00:10We've got a guest arriving early.
00:12Lovely.
00:13Across three weeks, six couples will fight for the prize of a lifetime.
00:20Walking away with the keys to this extraordinary B&B in the heart of the French countryside.
00:26But only one couple will take them.
00:31Who wins this stunning prize lies in the hands of four expert judges from the world of hospitality.
00:39Eva Jonat, who's inspected hundreds of hotels for the prestigious AA.
00:45The competition has been so tough this week.
00:48Nicola Cross.
00:49Oh, snogging swans.
00:52Elite inspector for the exclusive B&B guide Sore Days.
00:57Slightly chaotic, as they say up north.
01:01And award-winning B&B owners Andrew John and Brennan Street.
01:05Nobody's perfect.
01:06Yeah.
01:07Well, nobody's perfect.
01:11Whoa!
01:13What's happening?
01:14Hurry up.
01:15Come on, look at this. Stop asking me questions.
01:17I've posed it all up again.
01:18Well, you haven't posed anything up.
01:20I'm flagging.
01:21Oh, God.
01:22Do they have a problem?
01:28Not sure if I'll tell this for them.
01:30Previously...
01:32Can you make...
01:33Yeah.
01:34Because it's the buffet style, we only offer the hard-boiled eggs.
01:37Guests were left wanting.
01:39You've got to stick to some boundaries.
01:42We can only do so much.
01:44Toilet?
01:45Oh.
01:46There was a major cleanliness issue.
01:49I really apologise about that.
01:53And the competition went into a spin.
01:56Oh, sorry everybody.
01:58Oh, what a disaster.
02:00Lovely day for a little stroll to get some pastries.
02:18Get ready for breakfast.
02:19In southern France, it's the final day of the last heat week
02:23in a battle to win the prize of a lifetime.
02:26Morning, darling.
02:27Morning, Andy.
02:28Morning, Jen.
02:29Just bought some more eggs and a couple of pastries.
02:32Where would you like to take your tea?
02:34Oh, it's lovely over on that one.
02:36Because it's still nice and cool, yeah.
02:38There we go.
02:40Oh, thank you very much.
02:41No problem.
02:42Oh, no problems.
02:43If I was to even try to describe this week to anyone,
02:49I think the first words that would come up would probably be brutal.
02:53We know at this point we've done everything that we could have done.
03:00Oh, look at that.
03:02That's beautiful.
03:04You know, this is genuinely life-changing.
03:08I guess if we don't get it, we'll be really disappointed.
03:10We've enjoyed working together and running around together and cooking together,
03:17shopping together.
03:18We've enjoyed the whole thing.
03:22Morning, morning.
03:23How did you get on?
03:24Yeah, good.
03:25I went in and got everything about using my phone.
03:29I think this week has just reinforced the fact that this dream is really, really what we want
03:35and we're in this to win this.
03:37Winning the B&B would mean the world to us.
03:40Having never catered a professional breakfast at the start of the week,
03:51the hosts have now settled into their roles and are prepping for the final service.
03:59We hope we've done enough to get through to finals week.
04:01If perspiration counts, then I've definitely given enough of that for us to get through.
04:06Not sure I can cope.
04:08To win this competition, it's life-changing.
04:11It would set us up to drive to get our dream.
04:14At the moment, there is no plan B.
04:18Last day.
04:19I think we've cried our hardest.
04:21There's been laughter.
04:22We haven't had anyone with a pretzel face turned upside down.
04:27Apart from me.
04:28Apart from you and me.
04:29OK, but that's expected.
04:32Last breakfast.
04:33Let's do this.
04:34Yep.
04:35Gave the same quality as day one.
04:37Yep.
04:38You just give it 100%.
04:39In all honesty, Brett, I am exhausted.
04:42Probably the most challenging thing I've ever done.
04:44Yeah.
04:45Would you agree?
04:46We can honestly say we have tried our best.
04:48Can I just have a hug?
04:50Let's just get through the day.
04:52Oh.
04:53Oh.
04:56Today, the judges will decide who has the metal to really run a B&B in France.
05:03They've come out fighting this week.
05:05They absolutely have.
05:06Even on this last day, when they are knackered, there's no excuse to let the ball drop now.
05:10If I see any of them dip on this last moment, I don't think they've got the stamina to handle it.
05:18What we're looking for is improvement.
05:21That's the main thing that you would look for on the last day.
05:24We want to see people pushing themselves to really show how much they want this.
05:30Oh.
05:31Morning, gents.
05:32Good morning.
05:33How are we?
05:34Good, thank you.
05:35How are you?
05:36Great, thank you.
05:37How are you doing?
05:38Good.
05:39So, what's the plan for the morning?
05:40How's it all going?
05:41Well, we're just doing the finishing touches.
05:42The guests are out on the ground having a morning coffee.
05:43Excellent.
05:44Talking of coffee, can I get you one?
05:45Yes, please.
05:46Please.
05:47Morning, how are you doing?
05:48Good, thanks.
05:49It's going to be hotter today.
05:50We've put shorter shorts on.
05:51Oh, well done.
05:52So, Julian's got a nice surprise for us on the breakfast table.
05:54In the final hours of the competition, the judges want to see if Justin and Paul are going
06:09more attentive to their guests while still keeping a calm, relaxed atmosphere.
06:16He's matched the table with his shirt.
06:18Hello.
06:19Good morning.
06:20How are you, Eva?
06:21Good on you.
06:22Hello, everyone.
06:23Ooh, pastries.
06:24Bonjour.
06:25All week, Nicole and Brett's breakfasts have been cooked to perfection.
06:29But with the pressure of the competition mounting, cracks have started to appear.
06:34Mistakes do happen.
06:35However, it is possible for the host to correct that and bounce back.
06:37Right, Brett, have you got everyone's order in there?
06:38Yeah, everyone's orders in.
06:39And everyone has a hot drink?
06:40Yeah.
06:41Right.
06:42Orders, they're shy.
06:43Orders.
06:44Orders.
06:45Orders.
06:46Breakfast is served.
06:47Oh, fabulous.
06:49Do it seem to your coffee.
06:50White coffee.
06:51To your coffee, everyone.
06:52Coffee.
06:53Coffee.
06:54Coffee.
06:55Lovely table.
06:56A selection of local cheeses and some saucy saunes there for you, OK?
06:57You can't argue with the fact that nature is winning.
07:02It's only half past nine and I'm so hot already, so should I get a pan?
07:07Yes, please, Tommy.
07:08Let's get a pan.
07:09Let's get a pan.
07:10Let's get a pan.
07:11Let's get a pan.
07:12Let's get a pan.
07:13Let's get a pan.
07:14Let's get a pan.
07:15Let's get a pan.
07:16Let's get a pan.
07:17Let's get a pan.
07:18Let's get a pan.
07:19It's only half past nine and I'm so hot already, so...
07:23Shall I get a pan? Yes, please, Tari.
07:25Let's get a pan. Turn that on for the chef.
07:31Today, Joe and Guy are offering omelettes using leftover ingredients.
07:35The whites didn't go very well.
07:37And fresh poached eggs on avocado toast.
07:42Well, one lucky person is going to get...
07:44Double yoke.
07:45Oh, they're a little bit overdone, I think.
07:49It's all right, it's all right. Well, hurry up and I'll take that.
07:52Next one.
07:53You've got a double yoker this morning, so there we go.
07:57You're very welcome. The others will come out.
08:00So, please do start.
08:02Really perfect, Guy. Well done.
08:04I don't think so.
08:05No, I'm telling you what the guests say.
08:09Purvis? Yes, chef.
08:13Here we go. Wow.
08:16Let's see if they're as good as mine.
08:17Yeah.
08:18Just hoping.
08:19I think they're actually better.
08:22No.
08:25Oh, that's...
08:26That's perfect.
08:28Absolutely fantastic.
08:29And how do the eggs and avocado taste?
08:32Absolutely stunning.
08:33Really super fresh.
08:37Mushroom omelettes.
08:38Oh, thank you very much.
08:39It's good.
08:39It's really done very, very well.
08:48It's buttery.
08:49Yeah.
08:50It's moist.
08:54Oh, look at this.
08:55It looks so pretty.
08:57We've made a slight adjustment for the girls.
09:00Some avocados, blueberries, strawberries, and then this platter.
09:05That is really, really pretty.
09:08Paul made these as well, which you might like.
09:11Yeah.
09:11So, that's got mango passion fruit, pistachio, and Greek yoghurt.
09:15Okay.
09:16Try one of those.
09:18It's like heaven.
09:19This is heaven for me.
09:21I think I would just stay here for, like, 15 minutes to just prepare my breakfast.
09:26Down the road, Justin and Paul's buffet-style breakfast has come under criticism this week.
09:32So, today, they've given it a makeover with an artistic platter of seasonal fresh fruits with local meats and cheeses.
09:41It's beautiful and so much choice.
09:45Paula's.
09:46You couldn't fail to be satisfied.
09:48There's something for everyone.
09:49It's just all natural.
09:50Everything is healthy here.
09:52I think the atmosphere here is very calming.
09:56Everybody's got everything that they need.
09:58More than anything.
10:00Yeah, very good.
10:01Still water, any sparkling water.
10:02I didn't bring any sparkling water out, but no, not for me.
10:07When I had my first breakfast here, which was, it feels like months ago, but it was actually only a couple of days.
10:12The breakfast has developed since then, and they're both much more relaxed, I think.
10:17I feel like they're really pushing the boat out today for their final fling at breakfast, and I think they've nailed it.
10:25They're nailed it.
10:25I think it's great.
10:26Yeah, I do agree.
10:27So, overall, everybody, how was breakfast for you?
10:34Perfect for me.
10:35Perfect.
10:36Everything I could want.
10:38Very satisfied, yeah.
10:39Hats off to Guy.
10:40That was one of the best omelets I've ever had.
10:42What a pleasure to wake up in the morning and know that you're going to get something lovely.
10:51Mmm, that looks lovely.
10:53Can you manage all that?
10:53Thank you very much.
10:54Absolutely.
10:55With no complaints all week on their breakfast, Nicole and Brett are sticking with their fusion menu of hot Irish and French options.
11:05And, Ava, you're with the French toast today.
11:08Here we go.
11:08Enjoy.
11:10For another French toast.
11:11Coming right up.
11:13There's not one spot or drip of anything.
11:16So, guys, enjoy your food.
11:18If you need anything, I'm only a bail-away.
11:21Thank you very much.
11:22Okay, get stuck in.
11:23I hope you enjoy.
11:24Thank you very much.
11:26With the competition hanging on a knife edge, any mistakes today could be costly.
11:31So, what do we all think of our cooked breakfast here?
11:34Very nice.
11:35Yeah?
11:35Go go there.
11:36Very good.
11:37It's like an English cooked breakfast, but with French ingredients.
11:41So, perfectly nice.
11:42Yeah.
11:44What have you got there?
11:45A nice little fried ant with my Irish bread.
11:51Extra protein?
11:52Extra protein, yeah.
11:53It looks cooked very well.
11:54Is it a bell moment?
11:56You know what?
11:56Let's do it just to see how they react.
11:57Yeah, yeah.
11:59Oh, hello.
12:00How can I help?
12:01I've got a little fried friend with my Irish bread.
12:05Oh, goodness.
12:06Let me see.
12:07He is cooked to perfection, though.
12:08Oh, my goodness.
12:10I am so, so sorry about that.
12:12Can I get you another one?
12:13No.
12:14Don't worry about bringing another one out.
12:16Are you sure?
12:17Yeah.
12:17Yeah.
12:18Yeah, another ant.
12:19I don't think I could eat another whole one.
12:22But seriously, no stress.
12:25Would anyone else like anything else?
12:27I would like to fry them, but you know.
12:29Oh, no.
12:29Yeah.
12:30It's a disaster.
12:35Absolute disaster.
12:36Right.
12:36Well, that's disappointing, then.
12:38That'll be a complaint.
12:39The aprons are hung.
12:43The kitchens are closed.
12:45And all the aspiring B&B hosts can do is help the judges vote in their favour.
12:52It's going to be quite an intense debate.
12:55The competition has been so tough this week.
12:58It's a real shame about the ant on the plate at breakfast today.
13:01It's just one other lapse, you know, on top of what happened yesterday.
13:05Thanks very much, Josh.
13:06I probably will have a job on my hands, persuading the other judges that Paul and Justin deserve
13:12a place in the final.
13:15Good luck.
13:15This competition is very fierce at the moment, and it's going to be a tough decision.
13:22It is, and I fear there might be a little bit of a battle.
13:26At the moment, it is anybody's game.
13:41They always knew this day would come.
13:44The final breakfast of the week has been served, and their last guests are about to check out.
13:51The final breakfast turned out to be fab.
13:53It was colourful, it was bright.
13:55They were all helping us out.
13:57I think it was the best one.
13:59Yeah, I think it was the best breakfast we did.
14:02It was good.
14:03Stunning.
14:04Stunning.
14:06It was...
14:07It fulfilled everyone's requirements.
14:09A few mistakes have tripped Nicole and Brett up this week, but they've pulled through and
14:17are ending the week smiling.
14:19Hey, guys, that's us.
14:20Oh, you off?
14:21Sad to see you go.
14:23Good luck in the future, and we've had a great stay, and, yeah, just good luck.
14:27Thank you so much.
14:28We really do wish you the very best.
14:30Really appreciate it.
14:31It's been lovely.
14:33Thank you for resolving that issue for us.
14:34No worries.
14:34It was done brilliantly.
14:36How are you standing?
14:42Amazing.
14:42And it was so nice to see you.
14:45So many people see each other.
14:47Oh, my God.
14:48I could have stayed here forever.
14:49Their hospitality has been awesome.
14:52Just for me, a bit too much.
14:55But it's me.
14:57Justin and Paul's chilled-out atmosphere has had mixed feedback this week, but they're leaving
15:02on a high.
15:03I hope that I will be back here in your shortly next B&B in France.
15:10Oh, yeah, definitely.
15:11You're first on the list.
15:13You're going to win.
15:14More than welcome.
15:16Oh, thank you.
15:17That's nice to hear.
15:18So, take care.
15:19Bye-bye.
15:19See you soon.
15:20Very soon.
15:21We have no shoes.
15:22Bye.
15:23Bye-bye.
15:24Take care.
15:24Safe journey.
15:25Take care.
15:26He felt so comfortable.
15:27He left his shoes.
15:28Thank you very much for staying at our humble B&B.
15:37Lovely.
15:38We'll have a safe on the journey, and we'll see you soon.
15:41Cheerio, guys.
15:43Cheers.
15:43It's been a turbulent week for Joe and Guy, but they've ended it saying goodbye to very
15:48happy guests.
15:49Hope we catch up with you.
15:51Yeah, that'd be lovely.
15:52Yeah, lovely.
15:52Yeah.
15:55Well, guys, end of the week.
15:58How do you feel it's gone?
15:59Good.
15:59We're just getting to the swing of it, and now it's finished.
16:01It's a bit disappointing.
16:03We'll carry on if you like.
16:03Yeah.
16:04I think we've really given it our best shot.
16:07It was very stressful, but overall, I think we've done a great job.
16:11The competition, the three couples, it's a very high standard this week.
16:16I think we've seen, you know, enough to really be able to make a clear and proper judgment.
16:23Let's see what happens.
16:24And whichever way, it's been a pleasure.
16:25Yeah, it has really.
16:26Pleasure's been ours.
16:27Thank you very much.
16:29Cheers.
16:29Good luck.
16:30Bye.
16:31Bye.
16:31Bye.
16:32Bye.
16:34It's time for me to go and meet the other judges to make our final decision.
16:39Don't overthink it.
16:40Enjoy your stay in France, and we'll see you later.
16:42Thank you, Eva.
16:43See you later.
16:49Are you off now?
16:51Yeah, I'll have a chat with the other judges.
16:54Thank you so much for breakfast.
16:55It was delicious, and it was a vast improvement on the first breakfast I had here.
17:00Really pulled it out of the bag, personally.
17:02Bye.
17:03Bye.
17:03Bye.
17:03Bye.
17:03I think she's chilled out now.
17:07I think she's a bit more relaxed, like you said.
17:11Final guests departed.
17:13The judges are returning to HQ to battle it out over who they send home.
17:18I think the atmosphere is very easygoing.
17:21I would feel completely comfortable to help myself to a cup of tea, and I think there is
17:26room for this sort of B&B in the final.
17:28Breakfast one to breakfast now is, like, as two different people.
17:34Brett and Nicole started really high, and then we've seen a bit of a decline towards
17:39the end of the week, and hopefully it won't play in their disfavor.
17:43The guests have gone, but even in the final hours of the competition, there's no rest for an aspiring B&Ber.
17:55What's my best fight?
17:56Oh, that's nice.
17:57Oh, that's nice.
18:00And the judges have one last delivery.
18:03One last challenge, is it?
18:10Right, I'll get it.
18:11Oh, God, here we go.
18:14Last one.
18:15Last one.
18:17Paul?
18:19Another golden ticket.
18:20Another golden ticket?
18:22Do you think this is vouchers?
18:24I think it's a big fat check.
18:26I hope it's a good one.
18:27Here we go.
18:28Day five.
18:29Today, you must pack up your B&B.
18:32After your guests leave, you'll have the opportunity to read the guest book.
18:35So that'll be interesting, won't it?
18:37To see who's real.
18:40And who's been tricky.
18:41Yeah, exactly.
18:42You then will have some time to enjoy the Dordogne.
18:45Yeah, let's bring the back.
18:46And then we can just sit and just have some good reflection time on the week.
18:50We only know one road.
18:51That's from here to the Boulangerine back.
18:53Yeah.
18:54So it'll be good to go out and just explore a bit.
18:57Please return to your B&B by 1.30.
18:59To pack up your belongings and await the results from the judges.
19:02Oh, Brett.
19:03Oh, mixed emotions.
19:05A judge will be with you at 3pm to deliver the results.
19:09I'm a bit reluctant to pack up out.
19:11What if we said we're not packing up?
19:13What if we just said...
19:15That's going to be, like, a good few hours of anticipation.
19:19Yeah.
19:19Come on.
19:20Let's go.
19:22We've had the crack along the way, Brett.
19:23Yeah, we've had a good time.
19:24We have.
19:25And plus, we're not divorced yet, either.
19:27Yeah, exactly.
19:31After a rollercoaster of a week...
19:34Guessbook time.
19:35Learn about us.
19:36Let's see what they think.
19:37The hosts can finally hear if their efforts have won over the guests.
19:41Ready to read this, Nicole.
19:42Reviews really matter to a B&B business.
19:45A really bad review can actually knock a B&B off the shelf.
19:50Here we go.
19:51Here we go.
19:52So, who's our first?
19:55Anne and Andrew.
19:57Hello.
19:58Hello.
19:59Hi.
20:00Thank you for such a warm welcome and letting us loosen your B&B.
20:05They were very, very welcoming and friendly.
20:08This is Paul's little tree.
20:09Yeah.
20:10This is beautiful.
20:11Good luck for the future.
20:13That's nice, isn't it?
20:14Mm-hmm.
20:16Let's see if our hard work has paid off.
20:18Right, so, first off, we have...
20:21Hello.
20:22Hello.
20:22Ruth and Dad.
20:24Please.
20:26Thank you for a lovely stay.
20:27We wish we could have stayed longer.
20:29We'd definitely love to come back.
20:31All in a day's work.
20:32Yeah.
20:33Joe and guys, I think we just found them natural.
20:38What did I hear?
20:38What did I hear?
20:40Hey.
20:41Thank you, guys.
20:42The food was absolutely amazing and loved all the little details.
20:47We wish you lots of success for the future.
20:49Go team, Joe and Guy.
20:52How are you feeling?
20:53I'm about nervous.
20:54Alan and Daryl.
20:57Bonjour.
20:58Hi.
20:59Wow.
21:00A wonderful experience with you both.
21:03You can prod over me.
21:05They had aimed really, really high.
21:08We have a win.
21:10I think the desire to do so well created a bit of pressure.
21:17Personal touches.
21:19We're fab.
21:21Rashma and Manish.
21:23Hello.
21:24Hi.
21:24How's it going?
21:25Hello.
21:26Bush, they're very, very big.
21:28Thank you for the masala chai.
21:30I have to perfect your wife's tea next time.
21:33Yeah.
21:33And hopefully their mind will be better.
21:35They win the extra mile.
21:37Yeah.
21:37To make us happy.
21:38Come and visit any time.
21:40Yeah.
21:40We would definitely go back to them.
21:43Bye, Jan.
21:44Bye, bye, bye.
21:45And the way you have made us be valued here and lovely wee hearts.
21:50That's so kind.
21:52That's really positive, isn't it?
21:53Yeah.
21:54Andy and Jen, thank you for a very social stay.
21:57Would you like me to take you to your room straight away?
22:00Because then you can step and underwind and unwind.
22:04Well, all I got off of them from the minute we arrived was stress.
22:09I'll show you through to where everything is.
22:11Okay, if you'd like to come through.
22:12I suggest you try to remember guest names and use them.
22:18Ask people about themselves.
22:20I could tell you her occupation, where she's from, where they live now and what they do now.
22:26So that was a bit weird because we didn't want to be over familiar.
22:29Bye.
22:30Bye.
22:32Who have you got next?
22:33Oh, Anna and Andrew.
22:35Oh, hello.
22:36Hi.
22:37I'm Guy.
22:38Hi, Anna.
22:38Anne, please meet you.
22:39Lots of cups of tea, smiley face.
22:43There you go.
22:43Thank you, lovely.
22:45However, it would have been nice to have been asked to join you and Julian last night for a longer chat to get to know you better.
22:55That's okay.
22:56That's fine.
22:56Take that on board.
22:57But they did come and talk to me in the kitchen, which was nice.
23:00That's not too bad at all.
23:01I mean, it's...
23:02I was expecting it might have been a little bit worse.
23:06Yeah.
23:06If we don't go through, it's all your fault.
23:09Fair enough.
23:10I think the feedback has been really positive, don't you?
23:14The messages that they've left for us...
23:17I think they're all positive about...
23:1999% are positive.
23:20It makes me feel good.
23:21We did good.
23:22Yeah.
23:23We've done what we came here to do.
23:25All of our details, making our guests happy.
23:28Just wait to find out.
23:30Wait to find out later.
23:31As the hosts reflect on the comments, what they haven't seen are the more detailed feedback cards the guests filled out for the judges' eyes only.
23:42In fact, we did have a score of one, and that was the overall experience.
23:48Our first one, actually.
23:50Our first overall one.
23:51Our only one in the entire competition.
23:53It's the last day of the heats in a competition that will give one couple the opportunity of a lifetime.
24:09So, the final breakfast.
24:12We've just come back from the final breakfast, and it's time to make our decisions.
24:17I'm in turmoil, because...
24:21I think we all are.
24:23...having got all the guest cards, there are a couple of comments.
24:27As the hosts head out to enjoy the life they could win, back at HQ, the judgments are frank, and the consequences will be massive.
24:37Look, that's really nice, isn't it, Justin?
24:38You know, when you see...
24:39You should take a photo.
24:42Tell us what you think Justin and Paul really bring to this competition.
24:47I think they're an incredibly honest and authentic couple.
24:52But all three of us want to know if that's enough.
24:54The comments I've had from guests is that one here, with further experience, being with them will be really great.
25:02As another one says, once they have time to relax, they will get better and better as the days unfold.
25:09So nice to be able to have the day to ourselves and just enjoy a bit of the local area.
25:14So Nicole and Brett have had fives across the board for so much, and then they had this major cleanliness issue as well.
25:22Oh, I know, and I must say, I don't know if they've done quite enough to correct that and make up for it.
25:29Oh, it's lovely, isn't it?
25:32It's nice and cool, yeah.
25:34Joe and Guy, there was a comment in spite of five staff for food, five staff for hospitality, five staff for cleanliness, that Guy was maybe not so approachable, that they didn't feel that there was a personal touch.
25:46And in another instance, that the guests felt ignored.
25:53That's a very strong one.
25:55Which is a really strong situation.
25:57In fact, we did have a score of one, and that was the overall experience.
26:03Our first one, actually, our first overall one.
26:06Our only one in the entire competition.
26:07With the guest feedback playing on their minds, the judges must now battle it out to decide who deserves a place in the finals.
26:16Meanwhile, for the hosts, running a B&B in France would be a dream come true.
26:23Not Meg, come sit here.
26:25In their country cottage in Hertfordshire, 25 years together has led Justin and Paul to lead busy, and these days often separate, lives.
26:34During the week, I'm aware a lot with work, and then we probably won't see each other for a couple of days.
26:41So, weekend is tends to be the time when we spend most time together.
26:45Hi, how's your day?
26:47Good, thank you.
26:47What have you been doing today?
26:48Just putting together some things for clients.
26:51A win would mean Justin and Paul could finally run a design-focused business together, living and breathing their vision under one roof.
26:59I enjoy gardening.
27:00It's one of the things that I'd like to incorporate into the B&B.
27:03I guess the reason why we'd want to take on this next chapter is to really kind of realise a lot of what we've been talking about for years.
27:15Justin and Paul have bucked the trend by taking the advice that works for them and going with it.
27:25And somehow ignoring the advice that doesn't work.
27:28Somehow ignoring the rest, but without offending.
27:30But have they done enough in that instance?
27:32Well, they've done what's right for them, and that's what I admire about them.
27:36But it's a competition, have they done enough in that sense?
27:39It is. It is.
27:39I think they have, they offer a really lovely, authentic B&B experience without putting on a show, without trying too hard, without getting nervous exhaustion or rowing.
27:52There's always been a lovely atmosphere there, and I think that's very important too.
27:57I mean, we've done the best that we can, and that's the main thing.
28:02Listen it.
28:03Well, no, we want...
28:04I mean...
28:05I mean...
28:06We want...
28:07We want to get it.
28:08Yeah.
28:09We want to get it.
28:10I always knew Justin was a great people person.
28:13Bonjour.
28:14Bonjour.
28:15Merci.
28:16Merci.
28:17Merci.
28:18Merci.
28:19Merci.
28:20Merci.
28:21Merci.
28:22Merci.
28:23Merci.
28:24Merci.
28:25It's nice for me to see him being a sort of person, front and centre.
28:35So with our two children, 10 and 7, life is very demanding.
28:41Day-to-day here is very hectic with family life and full-time jobs.
28:46If I'm not working away, then I normally have a long list of jobs to do around the house.
28:51With full-time jobs and busy city lives, Nicole and Brett want to put family first and escape the rat race.
28:59I've always loved France and I recently got him out last year and he was like,
29:05you know what, I now know why you love this country, it's just so beautiful.
29:10Winning would allow them to live and work together as a family, bringing up their kids in the French culture.
29:16So I think it would be amazing for them as a family to work together, live together,
29:21all the time.
29:25It's a tricky one because they started so strong that it was really difficult for them to have a progression from there actually.
29:32It was more about maintaining that high level of everything, service, hospitality, you know, housekeeping and everything else.
29:39Yeah, they've created this brilliant product, but now they have to allow themselves.
29:43It's a monster.
29:44Just relax a bit more.
29:46I think they're running towards a burnout if they don't change the way they operate.
29:51We have missed things, you know, through the week and we're going to be open and honest about that,
29:57but we just want to rectify all them, all them mistakes and improve.
30:01Striving to go above and beyond this week has left Nicole and Brett little time to sleep, let alone sample the local produce.
30:17Merci.
30:18Merci.
30:19Merci.
30:20Merci.
30:21See, you need to practice.
30:22Merci.
30:23For me, this week has been extremely difficult.
30:26I've never, ever, ever had a cooking class in my life, so it's been a huge thing for me to receive them compliments,
30:33but I'm so, so happy with them.
30:35Will you take your amen?
30:36Oui.
30:37That is a good flavour.
30:38Your mum would love that.
30:39Lovely.
30:40That's nice.
30:42For me and Nicole, this is an absolute dream.
30:43We have put everything into this competition.
30:44Merci.
30:45Merci, bonjour.
30:46Bonjour.
30:47Bonjour.
30:48Bonjour.
30:49Bonjour.
30:50Bonjour.
30:51Bonjour.
30:52Bonjour.
30:53Bonjour.
30:54Bonjour.
30:55Bonjour.
30:56Bonjour.
30:57Bonjour.
30:58Bonjour.
30:59Bonjour.
31:00Bonjour.
31:01Bonjour.
31:02Bonjour.
31:03Bonjour.
31:04Bonjour.
31:05Bonjour.
31:06Bonjour.
31:07Bonjour.
31:08Bonjour.
31:09Bonjour.
31:10Bonjour.
31:11Bonjour.
31:12I've been married for just nearly ten years.
31:15We could've moved to France buddy.
31:17Unfortunately for us we weren't able to have our own family.
31:18And recent events have caused even more uncertainty.
31:20Probably only about six weeks ago I was made redundant.
31:22Morning.
31:23Morning.
31:24Darling, how you doing?
31:26Good, thank you.
31:27So I'm finding Guy's redundancy just a little bit, erm, annoying.
31:32I do try and leave them a whole list of things to do any jobs for me today you go upstairs
31:37I love receiving my morning list of the of chores
31:44If Joe and guy win it'll be a fresh start for them following in Joe's family footsteps
31:50My childhood was pretty perfect
31:54My mum ran rooms as a B&B so growing up we had
31:59B&B guests around us all the time
32:02Il chant sur la pluie singing in the rain
32:06The service was fluid seamless professional there was only one negative guy actually went to bed early last night and left Joe with the guests
32:20I think it's a bit of a recurring theme here where Joe is the the guest facing host and is either in the kitchen
32:29Or elsewhere and when he's facing guests it's maybe not as
32:32And I have to say having got all the guest cards now there are a couple of comments about
32:39Guy possibly not always being in the picture or always having a professional head on as opposed to being as personable as Joe
32:48By all accounts it almost feels at some points that it's Joe's dream and that guys tagging along
32:55We used to have these in my granny's garden
32:58Mm-hmm
32:59You feel how soft they are?
33:00It's like lambs
33:01You can't call them lambs ears
33:02Oh yeah
33:03That's really soft
33:04Very nice
33:05My highlights were definitely meeting the guests and hearing their stories and getting to know people
33:11Like that's what I really love
33:12Maybe we could get a little
33:15B B B B B
33:18Is the dream still alive to run a B and B I say a hundred percent yes
33:24The dream is still very much alive
33:26The grapes are starting to come through
33:28They'll be ready by the end of the summer
33:29Ready for us when we're living it
33:31Yeah
33:31Only two places are left in finals week
33:36I love it here
33:37It's a life that I want to bring the children up in
33:40A hundred percent
33:41I've really enjoyed my time here
33:43It's seven just
33:45Yeah
33:46It's our lucky
33:47Lucky number
33:48There's a sign there Paul
33:50Now the judges must decide who has met their professional standards
33:54To surmise
33:56We have a couple that are sitting in the middle and running straight forward
33:59We have the other slow burners on one side
34:01And the high achievers over here
34:03Who might just burn out
34:05Who goes home Paul and Justin
34:08Who are so lovely but have they done enough
34:13They've never really personalised that check-in experience to them
34:16They've just taken a bit back way too literally
34:20It's not all about only the welcome
34:22Actually it's a very fair point
34:24Let's take the bedroom
34:25Bedroom presentation
34:26Missing towels
34:28Housekeeping lapses
34:29It wasn't just about that
34:31There were other factors I think
34:32Which for me showed they weren't pushing themselves to the maximum of their capabilities
34:38But the ones that were pushing themselves to the maximum of their capabilities
34:41Were very nervous
34:43It was absorbed by the guests
34:44There were rows
34:45They did have gaffes as well over sheets and lavatories
34:50I mean joe and guy on the whole of all of the houses their guest response was the highest
34:55And yet they were unkind to some guests
35:01I'm wondering if it's if one negative comment is enough to take them down
35:04I think leaving somebody out is inexcusable
35:08It's a huge prize
35:11We have to choose the people that we feel can go on to run the best most successful bed and breakfast
35:17Here in France
35:19We have to make a decision
35:20Who should go to the next age
35:22Who deserves the best shot at it
35:24Who deserves it most
35:25Tempers have been tested
35:28But the judges have voted
35:30And one couple's dream of winning a B&B will soon be over
35:35The judges have made their decision
35:48And are returning to where they started the week to deliver the news
35:52Being a judge at the beginning of the week is fantastic
35:55Yeah and then we get to this point
35:56We're either making somebody's life or we're going to ruin it
35:59Two couples will get the golden tickets to go through to the finals
36:03But for one the dream of winning a B&B in France ends here
36:08I'm so nervous
36:12We're either going home for good
36:15Or we're coming back for the finals
36:18I hate waiting
36:20Yeah I hate waiting as well
36:22I just want to know
36:23But not long to go now
36:25So we'll wait and see
36:28The hosts must pack up their B&Bs
36:31And await the judges' decision at 3pm
36:34There's quite a lot in my bag here
36:37That I haven't worn
36:39In fact most of I haven't worn
36:40Because there was me thinking
36:41I would get a little bit of down time
36:43We'd be able to have a swim
36:45So I decided I'd have to wear some dark colours
36:47So that the guests couldn't see how much I was perspiring
36:50Right I think that's everything
36:53Now await the judges' decision
36:56Yeah let's go
36:57This could be it just
37:01This could be our last pack
37:03Or we could be winning
37:04Who knows
37:05I'm feeling a bit nervous too
37:06This is a crunch time
37:09A week ago
37:13Three couples landed in France
37:15Never having hosted a B&B
37:18Five heated days
37:20Fourteen different guests
37:22And twenty-five meals
37:24It all boils down to this
37:27The seriousness
37:29With which the hosts have taken their tasks this week
37:32Has been very very different
37:34To last week
37:35It's going to be incredibly difficult
37:38To send someone home again
37:39When finals week
37:41Is just a step away
37:42What will be
37:45Will be
37:46We'll work together as a team
37:47And that's all that matters
37:48Yeah
37:48But we did try really hard
37:51And I would have been
37:52Disappointed
37:53If we didn't give her 100%
37:55But I feel like we did
37:56So just
37:57I think it's crossed us enough
37:58Hopefully the judges will be here shortly
38:05I hope so
38:07Every minute feels like half an hour
38:09That's the anticipation
38:11I think
38:11Oh no
38:14It's them
38:15It's them
38:16Okay
38:17All right
38:19Let's do this
38:20You ready?
38:23Come on, Mr. Trey
38:23Brad
38:24Hi again
38:30I've come here to tell you that the judges have reached their final decision
38:37The judges have been debating all afternoon
38:43From the beginning you've given 100%
38:47And your dedication was very evident
38:49Both to the guests and the judges
38:52Your hosting skills have been amazing
38:55We've been very impressed with the way that you've created
38:59A beautifully zen-like peaceful atmosphere
39:02Some of your guests weren't as happy leaving the house
39:07But towards the end there was a major issue with housekeeping
39:12You played the whole week very safely
39:17I'm aware that that was sometimes so that you could spend more time with your guests
39:21It came across sometimes that you were breezing through the week
39:24With all this in mind the judges have come to a decision
39:29You're going to final switch
39:38Actually, actually
39:40Oh my goodness
39:44Actually, thank you so much
39:53You've done so well
39:54Oh my goodness, thank you so much
39:55You've done so well
39:57Of the other two couples
40:02It was incredibly close
40:04It really was a knife's edge
40:10We had to take into consideration
40:13Everything
40:14Everything that was felt by guests
40:19So I'm really sorry to tell you
40:24You won't be continuing on to the finals
40:27Okay, well
40:28That's disappointing
40:30That is really disappointing
40:31Yeah
40:31So sorry guys
40:32We really are
40:33But it was so, so tight
40:35Congratulations to the other guys who did go through
40:37I mean, that's it
40:38We know how hard it was
40:40And yeah, well done to them
40:42That's just incredible to say
40:43Yeah, no worries
40:44Thank you
40:44Congratulations
40:46Thank you
40:47Thank you
40:48Thank you
40:52Now that we've got this far
41:03We've got a win
41:04We did it
41:05We did it
41:05It's not over though
41:10Best team
41:12Best team
41:13Absolutely
41:15Over the main
41:17Yeah
41:17That has just filled us with confidence
41:19And we just want to build on everything we've done this week
41:22We did our best
41:23We did our best
41:24We did our best
41:25Yeah
41:25And I think one was an outburst
41:28Yeah
41:28Let's go
41:29One door
41:30It is just a speed bump in the road to our new life and in the sun
41:34Being told that it was that close to getting through and not making it
41:39Is probably more heartbreaking
41:41Would I have changed anything that we did?
41:45Probably not, no
41:46We're going to make the dream happen
41:48And it's just made us hungrier for it
41:50We're going to pursue this
41:52Yeah, you'll see us in France soon enough
41:54As Joe and Guy head off in search of an alternative plan for their future
42:03The judges have invited Nicole and Brett to meet the other finalists for dinner
42:07But they've been left guessing who'll be joining them
42:12Who do you think we're going to see?
42:19Guy seemed so confident, didn't he?
