00:25This is Late Night. We hope you're doing well.
00:27And now, if you don't mind, we're going to get to the news.
00:29President Trump hosted a roundtable event yesterday
00:32to announce a $12 billion aid package
00:35for farmers who have been affected by tariffs.
00:37Once again, President Trump has to swoop in
00:40and fix a problem created by the worst president in history.
00:45President Trump last week renamed the U.S. Institute of Peace
00:48the Donald J. Trump United States Institute of Peace.
00:52The guy is just jamming his name in everywhere.
00:56Can't wait to turn on my TV and say,
00:58Donald J. Trump's Tyler Perry's Medea.
01:03While presenting medals in the Oval Office
01:05to the 2025 Kennedy Center honorees over the weekend,
01:08President Trump thanked the jewelry company Tiffany
01:10for redesigning the medallions and added that he knows
01:13the staff very well because the brand's flagship location
01:16is right next to Trump Tower.
01:18Also because he has a punch card for engagement rings.
01:21The White House recently unveiled the official 2025 gingerbread house,
01:28which Trump immediately demolished to put in a ballroom.
01:33Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos met last month at the White House
01:36with President Trump for more than an hour.
01:38It was supposed to be a half hour, but Trump was buffering.
01:41That's right, President Trump met last month with Netflix CEO
01:48Ted Sarandos in the Oval Office apparently to ask if he's allowed
01:51to do squid games on the White House lawn.
01:54Chipotle launched a collaboration today with the luggage company
01:59base to offer a $48 cross-body bag designed to carry one of their burritos
02:05because your stomach was not.
02:10And finally, personal care brand Dove has unveiled
02:13its holiday treats collection, which includes
02:15a sugar cookie antiperspirant.
02:17It's the perfect gift for your spouse or loved one
02:20who is not yet covered in ants.
02:22I think the picture was maybe a mistake.
02:29That was a monologue, everybody!
02:32Very happy to have you with us tonight.
02:35We've got a great show for you.
02:37She's an amazing talent.
02:38You know from out home with Amy Sedaris,
02:40BoJack Horseman, and Strangers with Candy,
02:42she's one of our favorites.
02:43Amy Sedaris is back on the show.
02:46You know him from shows such as 1923
02:51in films like It Ends With Us and Vice.
02:53He's currently starring in The Housemaid,
02:55which is in theaters on Friday, December 19th.
02:58Brandon Slenar is also joining us tonight.
03:03And he hosts the innovative series Subway Takes,
03:06which you can check out.
03:07You should check out on all social media platforms,
03:09as well as YouTube and Apple Podcasts.
03:12Kareem Rama is also here.
03:14I can't wait to talk to him.
03:15But you guys, oh, what a conversation.
03:18Josh and I talked to Julie Louis-Dreyfus and her sons.
03:22It's great.
03:23Do listen to that wherever you get your podcasts.
03:25You guys, moving on.
03:26We here at Late Night don't always have enough time
03:28to cover all of the recent news.
03:30So here with a recap is one of our writers, Amber Ruffin,
03:33in a segment we call Amber Says What.
03:39You guys, things have been crazy.
03:42Okay, first of all, I heard about a show called
03:44Hunting Wives and I was like, what?
03:47People said it's got a bunch of lesbians in it.
03:50And I was like, what?
03:52Then they said it's the horniest show on television.
03:56And I was like, what?
03:58Then I watched it.
04:00And I have to say, do not watch this show
04:03if you are trying to stay straight.
04:07But if you're trying to get gay, go right ahead.
04:10Then I heard that Pantone announced their color of the year
04:14and it's Cloud Dancer.
04:16And I was like, what?
04:18Bitch, do you mean white?
04:21You're telling me white is the color of this year?
04:24White's the color of every year.
04:27White was the color of 2010.
04:29White was the color of 1988.
04:32White was the color of 793 to 1066 A.D.
04:37It's always been white.
04:39Also, we're saying Cloud Dancer now instead of white?
04:43As in, gerrymandering benefits people
04:46who are Cloud Dancer.
04:48As in, Talbots is huge with Cloud Dancers.
04:52As in, my mom would be mad if I married a Cloud Dancer.
04:56Cannot wait until next year when the color of the year
04:59is Seth's Winter Legs.
05:02Then I heard the movie K-Pop Demon Hunters
05:07became the most popular Netflix movie ever
05:10and I was like, what?
05:12Now, it turns out the only thing that is keeping us all safe
05:15from evil is the power of three girl singing groups.
05:19And that explains the 90s.
05:21TLC was secretly protecting us from demons.
05:24Destiny's Child was fighting zombies.
05:27Josie and the Pussycats, they were just fun.
05:31Then a crazy fan lunged at Ariana Grande
05:35during a red carpet event where she was promoting
05:37the new Wicked movie and Cynthia Erivo protected her.
05:41And I was like, what?
05:43She got right between them and people were like,
05:45what was that?
05:46And I was like, that's friendship.
05:48Wouldn't you do that for your bud?
05:50If not, we can't be friends because I have a mouth to run.
05:54I talk trash and Seth Meyers backs it up.
05:58I do not.
06:00You heard it here first, folks.
06:02Seth will fight you.
06:04Also, I heard that Wicked For Good got a lower score
06:06on Rotten Tomatoes than the first one,
06:08and I was like, what?
06:10you, movie critics.
06:11It ruled.
06:13Now, did I see it yet?
06:15No.
06:17But I don't need to see a movie to know if it was good or not.
06:20Watch this.
06:21Good.
06:22Great.
06:23Love it.
06:24Wonderful.
06:25Outstanding.
06:26Wait.
06:27Do you just like all movies?
06:29Yes, they work so hard.
06:31Our show is only a half an hour, and it almost kills me.
06:36This show is an hour long.
06:38Ew.
06:39Then I heard that Trump called a female reporter, Piggy,
06:44and I was like, what in the what-ing what?
06:48This reporter asked Trump a perfectly normal question
06:51during a press conference, and Trump called her Piggy,
06:54and I was like, what?
06:55Did the rest of the press pool say?
06:57Did they come to her defense?
06:59Did they tear Trump apart?
07:01And the rest of the press pool was like...
07:03But I tell you what, if Cynthia Erivo had been there,
07:08things would have been different.
07:10Trump would currently be wearing his flat orange ass for a hat.
07:15Now, I asked the graphics department for a picture of that,
07:19and they said...
07:21Then I read that scientists said kissing has existed
07:26for at least 16 million years, and I was like,
07:30what are horny scientists doing in those laboratories?
07:34These are the type of headlines that make people
07:36not believe in science,
07:38because you're all sitting around,
07:40smooching in your little lab coats.
07:42Then your boss walks in and says, what are you doing in here?
07:45And you're like, uh, research?
07:47Cut it out and get back to doing real science,
07:50like getting dogs to talk.
07:53Then someone told me that Trump tweeted about
07:55late night, and I was like, what?
07:57I already know that.
07:58And they were like, no, he did it again.
08:00And I was like, what?
08:02This man is obsessed.
08:03So this time, Trump said Seth Meyers has no talent,
08:08and that's simply not true.
08:10Show him, Seth.
08:11Show him what?
08:13Show him you can sing.
08:15I don't sing.
08:16Well, show him you can dance.
08:18I can't dance.
08:19Seth, you got to help me out here, buddy.
08:23Then I heard that Grok said that Elon Musk is more fit than LeBron James.
08:28And I was like, what?
08:31This is the worst story I've ever heard.
08:33Also, who's Grok?
08:34And then I found out that Grok is an AI chatbot created by Elon Musk.
08:38And I was like, what?
08:40This is the best story I've ever heard.
08:42Because let me tell you something.
08:44If I invented an AI chatbot, it would not shut up about me.
08:49You would be like, hey, Keisha, what's the weather?
08:52And it would be like...
08:53Amber is the prettiest pony.
08:56Thank you, Keisha.
08:57You're welcome, queen.
08:59Then I heard that UNC coach Bill Belichick attended a cheerleading competition.
09:05And I was like, what?
09:06That's so sweet of him to support his granddaughter or niece or whatever.
09:11And then I heard he was there supporting his girlfriend.
09:14And I was like, what?
09:17Dude, if you heard a 73-year-old man say, yo, I got to go watch my girlfriend at her cheerleading competition.
09:24You'd be like, okay, Gramps, hand over those car keys.
09:28Then I heard that Cher was going to be the musical guest on SNL for the first time in 40 years.
09:35And I was like, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what?
09:39Man, I am so excited.
09:41I'm going to go to SNL that night and rush the stage.
09:44Actually, hold on.
09:46Keisha, will Cynthia Erivo be at that SNL?
09:49Yes.
09:50Cynthia Erivo will be in attendance.
09:52Never mind.
09:53I will not be doing that.
09:54This has been Amber Says What.
09:56Amber Rodman, everybody.
09:59We'll be right back with Amy Sedaris.
10:14My first guest tonight is an Emmy-nominated actress and best-selling author.
10:17You know from At Home with Amy Sedaris, BoJack Horseman, and Strangers with Candy.
10:21Please welcome back to the show one of our favorites, Amy Sedaris, everybody.
10:29Hello, friend. I'm so happy to see you.
10:41Hello. Nice to see you.
10:42You look wonderful as always.
10:43Oh, thank you.
10:44You care very much about how you look, how your world looks around you.
10:47I do. I pay attention.
10:49But before we get started, I just want to say how cute a doorbell when you had your kids on your show last week.
10:54They were pretty cute, right?
10:56And your feet didn't touch the ground like mine.
10:58I know.
10:59Oh, my God. Were they nervous?
11:00I mean, what was there?
11:01I didn't tell them.
11:02Yeah, I had my kids.
11:03I did not tell them they were going to be on the show.
11:05They were here taking their Christmas card photo.
11:08I didn't want them to be nervous about it.
11:10I wanted to try to get their true selves.
11:12Okay.
11:13And so then during a taping, we finished with a guest and they were out there.
11:17And I just went and we put mics on them and I go, just come out and talk to me for a minute.
11:20And so there was no warning.
11:22And it was really great.
11:23They were their true selves.
11:25They were like a therapy session.
11:27Yeah.
11:28Yeah, that was really cute.
11:30I think they're...
11:31I'm a little worried.
11:32I think they know they're a hit.
11:33Oh, they're a hit.
11:34Yeah, but they know that's a...
11:35And two of them are really cute.
11:36I'm just kidding.
11:41Well, thanks for having me on your show.
11:43I'm so happy to have you.
11:44Now, we talked about how you care about appearances.
11:46We talked about your dollhouse.
11:47Yes.
11:48And now you also decorated your dollhouse for Christmas.
11:51For Christmas.
11:52I got the tree and then the wreath and the little department store.
11:55And, you know...
11:56It's beautiful.
11:57I want to find a housekeeper for my dollhouse.
12:00But I don't know how much they're going to charge me.
12:02But don't you think it'd be a good job to clean all the floors?
12:04Oh, so you actually...
12:05I'm sorry.
12:06You mean a little doll that's a housekeeper?
12:07No, a real one.
12:08You want to...
12:09Okay.
12:10But she has to use miniature cleaning supplies.
12:12Like a duster.
12:13So a regular-sized person that has to use little doll stuff.
12:16Yeah.
12:17You don't know anybody.
12:18But Hugh, David's boyfriend, did all these masterpieces for me.
12:21You might need a housekeeper because you do have a mouse.
12:23I have a mouse.
12:24Yeah.
12:25It was in the attic.
12:26And speaking of mice...
12:27Okay.
12:28Okay, so I'm not going to tell who gave me the chocolate bar
12:31full of psychedelic mushrooms, but Jonathan Groff did.
12:34Jonathan Groff.
12:35Great.
12:36So he gave it to me like two years ago.
12:37Okay, gotcha.
12:38And I kept it in my kitchen.
12:39I just thought, oh, one of these days I'll do it.
12:41Sure.
12:42But, you know, I didn't know how much or whatever.
12:43I know what you mean.
12:44Sometimes mushroom chocolates, you're like, when's the right time?
12:46And then you just put it on.
12:47Yeah, yeah.
12:48What time in the morning is the right time?
12:50But I did one of those things they do on detective shows where they look at something
12:53and then the camera goes in on it, you know?
12:55And then you see a little thing and like, there's no way they saw those pictures hidden
13:00behind the mirror and the jewelry box.
13:01You know what I'm saying?
13:02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
13:03Right.
13:04The moment where it all clicks together.
13:05Yeah.
13:06But I did that and I go, wait, what is that?
13:07And I pulled it out and a mouse ate three quarters of it.
13:10Look.
13:11Look.
13:12Gone.
13:13Gone.
13:14I mean, that's...
13:15I don't know if you need to be a good detective to see something happen here.
13:18No, it was...
13:20No.
13:21I just saw a sliver.
13:22Okay, gotcha.
13:23Now, my question is, did it die?
13:25The mouse?
13:26Yeah.
13:27Well, I think the question is, was the mouse smart enough to just have a little bit,
13:30go have their, like, psychedelic experience.
13:32Right.
13:33Yeah.
13:34Come back, have a little bit more.
13:35But I would say, if it ate it all in one serving, that mouse is fully dead.
13:38Oh, my God.
13:39Is it?
13:40All right.
13:41So, we've talked in the past about how you craft.
13:43You do a lot of crafting.
13:44Yes.
13:45And there's a craft fair.
13:46Holiday season craft fair.
13:47Yes.
13:48That store the Locovore on 6th Avenue and 10th.
13:49Yep.
13:50They're gonna give me three little shelves.
13:51And I said, great, I'll make crafts and then, you know, sell them all the money.
13:55We'll go to the ACC.
13:56Okay.
13:57So, these are some of the crafts that I made and I wanted you to price them.
13:59Okay.
14:00Oh, you want me to price them?
14:01I wanted you to give me an idea of what I should sell them.
14:02Okay.
14:03So, this one, I don't know what this is, but it looks like just a can with a little bit
14:06of tape on it.
14:07If I'm charging for time you put into it, this is...
14:10It is a little can, but they're hard to find this size, like going to a paint store.
14:14Okay.
14:15So, what you do for a shut-in or somebody, you know, and they need help and they don't
14:19have a bell, you just put a quarter or a tooth in a tin can.
14:22Yep.
14:23And you trace it.
14:24Oh, and that's why it has a Red Cross.
14:26This is for invalids.
14:27Yes, right.
14:28This one for my brother's boyfriend because he had a hip replacement and David's still
14:31mad at me about it.
14:32Oh, so you made it so that...
14:34So, Hugh would shake it to let David know he wanted it.
14:37Yeah.
14:38Now, can I just say I would open with put a quarter in it?
14:40Because I think when you say a quarter or a tooth...
14:42Yeah.
14:43Oh!
14:44...it just makes it seem creepier.
14:45Okay, okay.
14:46Yeah.
14:47Shake it.
14:48Now shake it without the quarter.
14:49Okay.
14:50Isn't that sad?
14:51Isn't that sad?
14:52You need help and you can't get help.
14:54Oh, God, yeah.
14:55Yeah, that makes me laugh.
14:56I mean, if it was this sad, I'd put a tooth in it.
14:58So, how much?
15:00How much for this?
15:01Yeah, seriously.
15:02Well, I feel bad because it's...
15:03I mean, the fact...
15:04I mean, obviously, it's worth hundreds of dollars.
15:06But the fact that it's going to an invalid who might be in need, I feel like we should bring
15:10the price down to make it a little bit more affordable.
15:12Well, I got to make a quarter back.
15:14How low are you talking?
15:15Well, it was going to be higher than a quarter.
15:17Okay.
15:18Like, let's say $9.75.
15:20You're clearing $9.75.
15:21$9.75 with a $25 donation to the ACC.
15:23Yeah, that's great.
15:24Yeah, all right.
15:25Okay.
15:26Only made four.
15:27Okay.
15:28All right, next up.
15:29Okay, so this is pretty fun.
15:30You're right.
15:31I have to price for the charity.
15:32You're right.
15:33I'm being...
15:34Yeah, you got to think of charity.
15:35They're popsicle stick people.
15:36Yeah, okay.
15:37You know, and they're really...
15:38They're really fun to make.
15:39Yeah.
15:40And they bring a lot of joy.
15:42And you can use them as a bookmark.
15:43Uh-huh.
15:44You know?
15:45That's great.
15:46I mean, I like the old men.
15:47This is a chef.
15:48But I like it when you get the guy with a little bit of hair.
15:50You know what I mean?
15:51Yeah.
15:52That guy needs one of these.
15:54So, yeah.
15:57So, okay, so this is interesting.
15:59You want me to price these?
16:01Yeah.
16:02Oh, you know what?
16:03I didn't see.
16:04There's some work went into this one.
16:05The glasses are really here.
16:06Can we come over here?
16:07Yeah.
16:08There's a lot of...
16:09Yeah.
16:10Right?
16:11So, these are...
16:12These are...
16:13These are...
16:16I mean, you know what?
16:17These are $12 each or two for $20.
16:19Or two for $24.
16:21Two for...
16:22Yeah, two.
16:23Okay.
16:24That would be great to be two.
16:25One for $12 or two for $24.
16:27Trick.
16:28Tell you what I'm gonna do.
16:29Tell you what I'm gonna do.
16:30People are like, oh, two for $24.
16:31I could never imagine.
16:32Now, these are penny bookmarks.
16:33This one I made for a Bible.
16:35And this one is for a cookbook.
16:37But what I did was I got 20, 25 pennies.
16:39Uh-huh.
16:40Which you can't...
16:41The bank couldn't guarantee me they could...
16:42Oh, these are...
16:43Yeah, this is, like, the last year of pennies, right?
16:45Yeah, it's the last year, so I thought it'd be valuable.
16:47And so I got the pennies online, but I had to pay $50
16:50for a roll of pennies.
16:51$50?
16:52So you're already out $50?
16:54Yeah.
16:55And so did you think when you bought $50 worth,
16:58you were gonna get more than two out of it?
16:59Yeah!
17:00Well, this makes the pricing on these very hard, Amy.
17:04I know.
17:05Well, I got to make my $50 for that.
17:06Yeah, so I guess this one's $50 and this one's $25?
17:09This is your profit bookmark right here.
17:12If we don't move this, you're breaking even.
17:15All right.
17:17Okay.
17:18But you're not working alone, correct?
17:20Like, a lot of people would say this.
17:21See these things and be like, how do you find the time?
17:23Well, I have...
17:25These I taught you how to make last year.
17:28Yeah, yeah, yeah.
17:29But it's a toxic craft because there's metal in here.
17:31Yeah.
17:32And you can get glitter along.
17:33Okay.
17:34And, you know, it gets caught in yours.
17:35You have to wear a bandana.
17:36And I hired two teenagers to come over to my apartment.
17:40And then after a while, they were coughing and they were like,
17:42oh, let's move on to the popsicle stick people.
17:44But, yeah, so I hired them to help me make these.
17:46Now, when you realized that it was toxic,
17:48is that when you thought, let's get some teenagers in here and caught it?
17:51Yes.
17:52And how do you find...
17:53How do you go about finding, like, crafting teenagers?
17:55A lot of went down, I'll tell you that much.
17:59I know a few people.
18:00Do you give them the bandanas when they show up?
18:03Yes.
18:04Do you let them know that glitter lung is real?
18:05No, I'd say if you want, you know, here's some...
18:07Goggles and some bandanas.
18:09This, can I ask a...
18:10Yes.
18:11What is this?
18:12Oh, I'm gonna paint some rocks.
18:14It's just a sample of what...
18:16And then I lined it with...
18:18That's just a sample.
18:20So that's how they know it's not for sale.
18:22Right.
18:23No, I can't...
18:26It's all dirty from people talking about it.
18:27All right.
18:28So we've long talked about your friendship with Kola Scola.
18:30Oh, yes.
18:31The great Kola.
18:32So this is a Christmas card.
18:33Yes.
18:34How many years ago is this?
18:35We're gonna be selling these at the Cure Thrift.
18:36All the money goes to diabetes, because it's a funny word.
18:38Okay.
18:39And then, Kole, whenever...
18:41Whenever I have a photo shoot, I call Kole and say,
18:44I got free hair and makeup down here.
18:46Why don't you come down and get your makeup done for something?
18:48Yeah.
18:49So they decided to dress up...
18:50Okay.
18:51...as an old woman that got beaten in the eye.
18:53So that is interesting.
18:54So I couldn't help but notice.
18:55Yeah, so Kole there has a black eye.
18:57Yes.
18:58And also, this arm looks hurt.
19:00Yeah, I think he either had a stroke, maybe,
19:03or broken up.
19:05I don't know.
19:06Or maybe it hurt the arm defending themselves
19:09from whatever came for the eye.
19:11Yeah.
19:12Yeah.
19:13That's a good cause at Cure Thrift.
19:14Okay, great.
19:15Well, these are all good causes.
19:16These are great crafts.
19:17I mean, there's...
19:18I'm always happy to see you,
19:19but I think the holiday season is especially apt.
19:21Thank you so much for being here.
19:22Oh, my God, thank you.
19:23High five!
19:25You guys...
19:26Andy Sedaris, everybody.
19:28We'll be right back with Brandon Spenard.
19:29It's your age, you want a print.
19:31Welcome back, everybody.
19:32Our next guest is a talented actor you know from shows such as 1923
19:46and movies like It Ends With Us, Emily the Criminal, Vice, and Drop.
19:50He stars in The Housemaid, which will be in theaters on Friday, December 19th.
19:54Let's take a look.
19:55Hey!
19:56Hey!
19:57Hey!
19:58Hey!
19:59What's going on?
20:00Billy!
20:01Threw away my notes for the meeting tonight.
20:03I know.
20:04Where are they?
20:05Nina, why don't we go check your office?
20:09I have to get up and do a speech in front of everybody, and now I have nothing.
20:15Nina!
20:16What?
20:17Nina!
20:18What?
20:20Do you have a copy on your computer?
20:24I wrote them in my hand!
20:27Oh, .
20:29Please welcome to the show Brandon Sklenar, everybody!
20:45How are you?
20:46Pretty good.
20:47I'm glad to hear it.
20:48Pretty good, yeah.
20:49This is a very fun movie to see with a lot of people.
20:52There are a lot of twists in this film.
20:54Have you been lucky enough to see it with an audience?
20:56I have not seen the film.
20:57Okay.
20:58No, no.
20:59But you do know you're in it?
21:01I've been told that I'm in it.
21:02Okay, great.
21:03Yeah.
21:04Paul Feig made this movie.
21:05He's a very funny guy.
21:06Obviously, you know, Bridesmaids, among a great many other movies.
21:10This is not that.
21:12This is not a comedy.
21:13This is very dark at times.
21:16Yeah.
21:17But it also has very funny things in it.
21:19Is that one of the things that's fun about working with Paul?
21:21Yeah.
21:22You know, I mean, because he's done so many Bridesmaids and Freaks and Geeks.
21:25I mean, the list is a mile long.
21:27So, he kind of brings that same energy to that kind of film,
21:31which is you don't really find in a serious sort of thriller like that.
21:36And he lets you improvise.
21:38He lets you add things in the day.
21:40It's like, you know, he has that same comedy mindset.
21:42Like, best idea wins.
21:43You know?
21:44Yeah.
21:45He's loose with the script.
21:46And it honestly brought a lot of levity to it.
21:48Because even the most intense scenes in that film, which on paper you'd think would be heavy days,
21:51they were fun.
21:52That's good.
21:53I had fun with it.
21:54And he also just let me really go for it and made me feel safe and made everyone feel safe.
22:00It feels different than other things you've done.
22:02Did you find that on the set?
22:04That it both felt different and exciting to be something?
22:06Oh, yeah.
22:07Yeah.
22:08I was surprised.
22:09Like, I met with Paul and he's like,
22:10Oh, I'd love for you to do this.
22:12And I was like, Me?
22:15Really?
22:16Like, white-collar, conservative kind of guy?
22:19Sure.
22:21I guess.
22:22Yeah, I'll try that.
22:24And I was pretty nervous, but I think it worked out.
22:27That's great.
22:28Yeah.
22:29You did 1923, a show in the Taylor Sheridan-verse.
22:32And this was only 16 episodes.
22:34Yeah.
22:35But this is a show that has an incredible fan base.
22:36Deservedly so.
22:37Do you get asked about it all the time?
22:39Everywhere.
22:40Yeah.
22:41And is it all walks of life?
22:42Because I feel like you would think that only one kind of person likes...
22:45No, I mean, it's a surprise.
22:46Like, I was shooting in Spain.
22:48I just finished shooting another film that Taylor wrote in Spain.
22:52And, yeah, I was, like, smoking a cig outside of a bar.
22:55Spencer Dutton!
22:57And I'm always, like, I'm always surprised, you know?
23:00Yeah.
23:01Oh, yeah, I guess you watched that here.
23:02I was in Ireland working, and everyone loved that show there.
23:05And, I mean, that's, like, the great thing about his writing.
23:07You know, it's so American at its core, but it's just about families
23:10and, you know, trying to preserve your history and your legacy.
23:16And, yeah, it kind of traverses everything.
23:21He's obviously making iconic work right now.
23:24But you got to work with a couple of true icons on that show.
23:26Oh, yeah.
23:27Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford.
23:28Yeah.
23:29I've been lucky enough, you know, to cross paths with Helen.
23:32But Harrison is still one of those, like, people that I can't even imagine
23:34what it's like in person.
23:36It's a trip.
23:37Yeah.
23:38Yeah.
23:39Can you, like, can you forget?
23:40Like, can you forget?
23:41No.
23:42Yeah, right.
23:43No.
23:44No, I don't care who you are.
23:45You'll be Daniel Day-Lewis.
23:46You're still gonna be like, that's Harrison Ford.
23:47Yeah.
23:48You know what I mean?
23:49Like, it was, yeah, we had a day on set.
23:52It was, I don't know if anyone's seen that show, but there's in the finale.
23:56Yeah.
23:57I'm so proud of that.
23:58We got a van in from Spain.
23:59Yeah.
24:00Yeah.
24:01Yeah.
24:02A lot of Irish and Spanish people here.
24:04They were shooting a scene in the train station, and it's the first time Spencer's
24:10seen Jacob in years.
24:12And then he comes in, he sees me, and he's, oh, hey, I go, what was this?
24:17And he goes, arrogance and a bit of stupidity.
24:20And he was so in it that day, like, so in it.
24:23And he's like, kid, I need you to come in quick with your line and try to, I was like,
24:26sure, sure.
24:27And when it was on his coverage, because I shoot your coverage, I shoot the other guy's
24:30coverage, and I was just, like, smiling.
24:32Yeah.
24:33Like, just not in character at all.
24:35I was just, like, watching him and going, oh, damn.
24:38And he's, like, so in it.
24:39And he's like, oh, I need you to do that.
24:41I was like, all right, whatever you want.
24:42Here's that.
24:43Yeah.
24:44I feel like maybe nobody even smiled in 1923.
24:46Like, that whole year.
24:47I smiled twice.
24:48I literally smiled twice.
24:49Barely.
24:50The best, my favorite thing about Taylor Sheridan shows is how happy everyone is.
24:54Yeah.
24:55It's just, like, so many good things happening.
24:57This is sick.
24:58Yeah.
24:59You also, this is available at the Yellowstone store.
25:02I mean, I feel like everybody talks about, like, it's really cool when you have your own
25:05action figure.
25:06Yeah.
25:07But your own cardboard cutout is a whole nother thing.
25:08Yeah.
25:09That's it.
25:10We couldn't even get one in time, even with express shipping.
25:13Yeah.
25:14To have it here.
25:15They're so high in demand.
25:16They're so high in demand.
25:17But you do know somebody who bought one.
25:19I do, yeah.
25:20I go to, like, I go to music festivals.
25:23I like to dance.
25:24I like music.
25:25I play music.
25:26And I go to this, like, funk and bluegrass festival.
25:29Okay.
25:30Very weird.
25:31It's a very wacky.
25:32It's not one of your normal funk and bluegrass festival.
25:34No.
25:35It's a very wacky place.
25:36There's, like, a kickball game at 6 a.m.
25:38Yeah.
25:39Everyone's out of their minds.
25:40And I couldn't make it because I was filming 1923, season two.
25:44And my friends got that cardboard cutout.
25:48They brought it to the...
25:50They brought it to the camp.
25:51Yeah.
25:52Oh, great.
25:53They brought it, like, in the camp.
25:54And then I surprised them.
25:55And I left Austin.
25:56And I didn't tell anybody.
25:57And I kind of dipped for the weekend.
25:59And I was like...
26:00And I showed up.
26:01And that was there.
26:02Oh.
26:03So you didn't even...
26:04They had to send you pictures.
26:05I had no idea.
26:06No, I had no idea.
26:07Was it awkward?
26:08Were you like, oh!
26:09It was very strange.
26:10Yeah.
26:11And there was stuff on it, you know?
26:12A lot of extra stuff on it.
26:13Right, right, right.
26:14Yeah.
26:15I still think it's probably better to have you in person.
26:16And it's, you know...
26:17But it's a good backup plan.
26:18It's strange.
26:19It's strange.
26:20Yeah, it's very strange.
26:21Better they bought it than you.
26:22Yeah, it's now...
26:23And you're like, I can't make it,
26:24but I'm gonna send a cardboard cutout.
26:25Yeah, it's folded in my garage.
26:26I wish I could send it to Premieres.
26:28Oh, yeah.
26:29It would be really nice for the red carpet.
26:30Yeah, yeah.
26:31Hey, man, congrats on the film.
26:33Thanks so much for being here.
26:34It's such a pleasure talking to you, Brandon.
26:35Thank you, guys.
26:36Thank you, man.
26:39Brandon Sklenar, everyone.
26:40The housemate of the theaters on Friday, December 19th.
26:42Welcome back to Late Night.
26:56The U.S. Mint pressed its final pennies last month,
27:00and reports say the very last pennies off the line
27:03could spark a bidding war worth as much as $5 million.
27:07But with the penny officially defunct,
27:09it turns out those final coins
27:11aren't the only valuable ones out there.
27:13Over the years, the mint has churned out plenty
27:15of rarities, misprints, mistakes,
27:17and weird pennies that are now worth a fortune.
27:20For example, there's the 1943 copper wheat penny.
27:24This was a rare error coin accidentally minted on copper
27:27when pennies were supposed to be made of steel
27:29to save copper for the war effort.
27:31Also, collectors probably know about the 1955 double dye penny.
27:36This is a rare penny where the print was misaligned
27:38and resulted in double image and double text.
27:42Now, those are the well-known valuable pennies.
27:44Here are some other ones that could be worth millions.
27:47There's the x-ray penny.
27:49This was a penny that was mistakenly printed
27:52with Lincoln's skeleton.
27:53Just a small error, but if you find one,
27:56it's worth almost half a million dollars.
27:59Next up, there's the 1978 disco penny,
28:02where a minor printing error caused the mint to depict Lincoln
28:06with an Afro large sideburns and a Coke spoon necklace.
28:11Somehow, that slipped through the mint's quality check,
28:14probably because they were also doing a lot of cocaine.
28:18Another penny that's worth a lot of money,
28:20the 2014 screaming penny.
28:22This is a penny that featured the sound of a man screaming
28:26whenever you held it.
28:27We actually have one of these right here.
28:31Ah!
28:34Ah!
28:37Ah!
28:38Ah!
28:40Ah!
28:47There are only about 1,000 of those out there.
28:51Next up, it's the 1983 assassin penny.
28:54This was the infamous penny on which they accidentally printed
28:57a picture of Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth,
29:01instead of the president himself.
29:03Even worse, the 1984 happy assassin penny.
29:07The mint took a lot of heat for those errors.
29:12Next up, it's the 1967 lickable penny.
29:16This is a penny the mint accidentally made completely safe
29:20to lick, which was followed by the 1968 penny
29:24that was completely safe to French kiss.
29:26We also have one of those here.
29:33Now, you almost certainly have one of these at home,
29:35so if you do, please post photos or videos of you
29:39French kissing your penny and send them to
29:41at Late Night Seth with the hashtag
29:44I am French kissing a penny for Seth Meyers.
29:46And if they're good and sexy, we may show them on our show.
29:50Or, and NBC Legal is making me say this,
29:54I may just keep your photos for my own personal collection.
29:58Moving on, there's the 1998 City of Angels promotional pennies,
30:10featuring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan as Lincoln.
30:14This is actually only the second time the U.S. Mint tried
30:16to use currency to promote a movie,
30:18the first being the 1981 Porky's Nickel.
30:22Next up, this one requires special attention.
30:25It's the 2001 Orbach.
30:28Now, at first, you think this is just a normal penny,
30:30but if you flip it over and look really close,
30:32you can see that instead of a statue of Lincoln
30:35appearing in the memorial,
30:37it's actually Law & Order star Jerry Orbach.
30:40The mistake went unnoticed for many years,
30:43but then it was caught by Orbach's old Law & Order partner,
30:46Chris Knoth.
30:48Just wanted to see if everyone's paying attention.
31:00Next up, it's the 2019 Severed Cent.
31:09This is one of the rarest coins ever minted.
31:11Each penny was struck, then immediately broken in two.
31:14One half was released into circulation,
31:16the other half was sealed inside a lighthouse somewhere,
31:20along the outer banks,
31:22where it's guarded by a man known only as the Keeper.
31:25If you ever want to reunite your half with the other half,
31:28you must undertake the journey to the lighthouse.
31:31Climb to the watch room and meet the Keeper.
31:35He doesn't speak.
31:37He just holds up a severed penny.
31:41Instinctively, you attach your half to his.
31:45For a brief second, they are one.
31:49The Keeper then walks away with the penny.
31:52But before he does, he turns to you
31:54and hands you another severed penny.
31:56You are the keeper now, he says.
32:01As he leaves the lighthouse.
32:05So you wait.
32:07The hours stretch into days.
32:10The days collapse into weeks.
32:12And then, 23 years later, the moment arrives.
32:17Footsteps rush up the spiral stairs.
32:20A figure stands in the doorway.
32:22In his hand, a severed penny.
32:26Your breath snags.
32:28Your fingers tremble.
32:30And with a soft click, your half meets theirs.
32:34The coin becomes whole.
32:36For the first time in two decades.
32:38And in that impossibly beautiful circle of copper,
32:42you finally hear its message.
32:45What's up?
32:55Those were some valuable pennies.
32:57We'll be right back with Kareem Hala.
33:12Our next guest hosts a very popular series,
33:14Subway Takes, which is available on social media platforms,
33:18as well as YouTube and Apple Podcasts.
33:20Let's take a look.
33:21So, what's your take?
33:22So, Kareem, my take is that I think that dogs
33:25should have to wear shoes.
33:27100% agree.
33:29You do?
33:30Yes.
33:31Why?
33:32I mean, like, are you as disgusted by them
33:35just tracking around the sidewalk, the road,
33:39and they come into your house, they get on your bed,
33:43they're kissing your face after they've been kissing
33:46other animal genitalia?
33:49Yeah, licking butts.
33:50They lick butt.
33:51Please welcome to the show, Kareem Rama, everybody.
34:06Hello. How are you? I'm so happy you're here.
34:08I'm good. You have so many good snacks back there.
34:11Yeah, have you been enjoying?
34:12I'm full, man. I'm full.
34:13That's great. Yeah.
34:14We should always tell our guests,
34:15don't worry about dinner afterwards.
34:16We got you covered.
34:17I'm not having dinner again.
34:18So, I first saw this on social media
34:21and did not realize that it was this running series.
34:23It's fantastic.
34:25You have people give a take on the subway.
34:27And then you...
34:28The thing I like the most is you either completely agree
34:31or completely disagree.
34:32There's no gray area in your reaction.
34:34It's America, man.
34:35Yeah.
34:36There's no middle.
34:37There's no gray.
34:38You don't think about it for a second.
34:39Do you ever, in the moment, have to, like,
34:41process it quickly?
34:42Because you never seem to pause very long.
34:44I just say the first thing that comes to my mind.
34:46That's great.
34:47And it sometimes gets me into trouble.
34:48Yeah.
34:49And if I know it's gonna get me into trouble,
34:51I just go...
34:52That's okay, too.
34:54Not gonna say anything about that one.
34:56That's okay, too.
34:57All right, tell me some of the examples of takes
34:59that you've had.
35:00You know, they can range from, like,
35:01we need to talk about dinosaurs more,
35:03which 100% agree.
35:04I don't know about you.
35:05To, like, you know, London is a better city than New York.
35:09Yep.
35:10100% disagree.
35:11Yep, right.
35:12Or, like, Batman's a dickhead.
35:13Yeah. Interesting.
35:14Where did you land on Batman's a dickhead?
35:16I agreed.
35:17Yeah, 100% agreed.
35:18Who tried to get away with London or New York
35:20on a New York City subway?
35:21Some people across the pond, mate.
35:23Yeah, I imagine.
35:24We've done subway takes in London.
35:26Oh, you did it there.
35:27Okay, got it, yeah, yeah.
35:28And of course...
35:29So they did it from a place of safety.
35:30They did it from...
35:31And I think that, you know, it is on its way
35:35to becoming a city.
35:37It's...
35:39Just kidding. I love you London.
35:40It's a village. It's a small village.
35:42It's a town.
35:43Now, you still ride the subway.
35:45I imagine, as it's become more popular now,
35:47people, you know, New York City people
35:49do not need an invitation to give a take.
35:51Do they come over and share it with you now?
35:53Yeah, I've become a de facto kind of therapist.
35:55Right.
35:56I was on the train the other day,
35:57and I just felt a little tap.
35:59And I look over, and he goes,
36:01Are you the guy?
36:03Like, I'm, yeah, that's my job.
36:05I don't take a day off.
36:06And he had a take.
36:07And?
36:08And, you know, I have to listen.
36:09I do the whole thing.
36:10Yeah.
36:11I like people.
36:12I do.
36:13The part of this that I feel like only someone like you
36:15could get away with is, one, you like talking to the people
36:18you're getting the takes from.
36:19But you have to be comfortable around all people
36:21in order to shoot a talk show on the subway.
36:23Yeah.
36:24Now, in the early days, what did people think was happening
36:27when you were just filming yourself asking someone
36:29what their take was?
36:30I mean, that's the least interesting thing happened.
36:32Yeah.
36:33So...
36:34On a New York City subway, you're like,
36:35Yeah, like, if you were like,
36:36You won't believe the subway was on today,
36:37the fourth thing would be like,
36:38And there was a small talk show.
36:39Yeah, there was a guy jumping from the rafters.
36:42There was, like, a dancing dog and a couple of monkeys
36:44hanging out.
36:45And then I saw this guy doing...
36:47We've actually...
36:48I had people...
36:49Like, I had a guy once interrupt.
36:51He listened to this whole take about how there should be,
36:54like, we should cut 10 states from the United States.
36:56Yeah.
36:57There should only be 40 states.
36:58Long conversation with a comedian, Hari Kondabalu.
37:02And he comes up at the end and he goes,
37:04Well, actually, I think blah, blah, blah, blah.
37:06He put his whole two cents in.
37:07Really cohesive argument.
37:08And then goes,
37:09Why are you guys talking into those Metro cards?
37:11He had no idea.
37:15You had a previous talk show that I believe you stopped doing,
37:20which was also fantastic.
37:21And I really want to credit you.
37:22I mean, again, I have a talk show.
37:23I do it exactly like everyone who's ever done a talk show.
37:26You've had two that are completely different.
37:28You had one called Keep the Meter Running,
37:30which is a fascinating idea.
37:31Explain it for anyone who might not be up to speed.
37:34So, Keep the Meter Running was a show where I would go out
37:37into the city, I'd hail a cab, and I'd tell the driver,
37:39Take me to your favorite place and keep the meter running.
37:42And then we would go on these crazy adventures.
37:44I'd interview them along the way.
37:46But at the same time, I would, like, go into a mosque basement
37:49and, like, eat, like, Bengali food with, like, 40 dudes
37:54just hanging out.
37:55It seems like, I would imagine, more often than not,
37:57you end up at a restaurant when you say,
37:59Take me to your favorite place.
38:00Restaurant first, and then it goes into, like, all sorts.
38:02Like, one day, I ended up in a helicopter in New Jersey
38:04with Ali.
38:05Okay.
38:06First, he took me to this place called Little Morocco
38:09in Astoria, and then I was like,
38:10Well, what do you want to do now?
38:11He's like, I've never been on...
38:12No, he said, I want to go to the moon.
38:14Okay.
38:15And I go, What does that mean?
38:16He's like, I want to go to the moon.
38:18I was like, A helicopter?
38:20And he was like, Yeah, yeah, let's go.
38:22So, we drove to New Jersey from Astoria.
38:24And it was all... It's all unplanned.
38:26I just go out there, and I hail it, and it's amazing.
38:29And I put that show on hiatus to kind of, like,
38:32make Subway Takes what it is.
38:34Yeah.
38:35Because that show is really expensive to produce.
38:37Well, based on the helicopter story, yeah.
38:40And not just that.
38:41I held a guy in Manhattan, and I go,
38:42Take me to your favorite place.
38:43Keep the movie running.
38:44And he goes, Yeah, Buffalo Wild Wings in Queens.
38:48It was an hour and a half away.
38:50And I was like, What's up with this location?
38:52He's like, It's got the right vibe.
38:55It was also $250.
38:58But I am bringing that show back.
39:01Oh, that's fantastic.
39:02I'm so great to hear it.
39:04That show is coming back.
39:07We just started pre-production.
39:10It's going to be on YouTube.
39:12Long 20 to 25-minute episodes.
39:14Different cabbies in each one and crazy, zany adventures.
39:16I read an interview where you said that New York City cab drivers
39:19are the, you know, it's an incredibly diverse group of people
39:21with wild backgrounds, and they love to talk.
39:24Yeah, I mean, what is crazy is that I feel like everyone
39:27has a cabbie story of some sort or has been affected by a cabbie.
39:32Like, that's how the show came for me, is that I guess he was
39:36the therapist at that point.
39:37But I got in the cab. I was having a real rough day,
39:39and I was like, Man, if you want to keep hanging out,
39:41after he took me to my house, if you want to keep hanging out,
39:44like, I would love to.
39:45And he goes, Gonna have to keep the meter running.
39:47And I go, Oh, well, thank you. And I left.
39:50But then that's where the idea for the show came from.
39:52That's fantastic.
39:53That's fantastic.
39:54You have also written, starred in a new movie that's coming out.
39:59Yeah.
40:00What's the star you called?
40:01Or Something.
40:02Or Something. Congratulations on that as well.
40:03Thank you so much. I don't know where you find the time.
40:05Look forward to seeing it.
40:06Yeah, thank you.
40:07Thanks for being here.
40:08Thanks for having me.
