00:01Go!
00:05Perfect!
00:08For me and Dave, every day is a lot of moving parts.
00:12With five growing kids...
00:14No! Do not go in the house!
00:17All right, quick break on.
00:19Whoa! Whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:21A working farm full of our beloved animals.
00:24Sometimes cows don't do what you want them to. It's the strangest thing.
00:27I think I have to go in and scoop some poop, too.
00:31A renovation business.
00:35And running two stores in our community of Northwest Arkansas.
00:39I think we did it.
00:40We definitely did it.
00:42We stayed pretty busy.
00:44And sometimes a little stressed.
00:46God! Oh, my Lord, David!
00:49But when your job is helping your neighbors transform their lives...
00:53Oh, my God!
00:55By transforming the place they call home...
00:58They crossed.
00:59Oh, my God! It's so pretty!
01:02Oh!
01:03It's not really work at all.
01:04Just another day in this crazy, beautiful life we call ours.
01:08Oh, my God! How did you do that?
01:10Hey, babe. We have got to get going to the Kettner's. Where are you?
01:25All right. I'm just cleaning up. I'll be at it in a second.
01:28All right. See you in a minute.
01:30We have got to go to the Kettner house.
01:31We are about to start a renovation for them.
01:34It was actually about a year ago, almost exactly, that they were hit by a tornado.
01:40Hey! I was just thinking. It's been about a year, probably.
01:44It's been that long?
01:45This was it. Look.
01:47May 27th.
01:49Oh, my gosh. Look at that. That's their house.
01:52Ms. Kettner, Nicole, was Luke's preschool teacher last year.
01:56Yep.
01:57And at the end of the year, we had tornadoes rip through town.
02:00Devastation in Northwest Arkansas as deadly tornadoes ripped through our area.
02:06A tornado hit dead-on on their house.
02:08We came out here with all of our kids, with a lot of our school, and worked for a couple days just helping them do anything that we could.
02:16They just now got the insurance money, so they're ready to get started on the renovation. So let's get dressed and go.
02:23We thought this would get going a couple months at the latest after the storm, but it's been a long year with insurance, fighting, trying to get the money to do this renovation.
02:33As soon as we found out that everything was good to go, we're just, hey, we'll meet you over there right now. We will start demoing today on your house.
02:42Yes.
02:46Okay.
02:48Oh, hey, guys.
02:49Hey.
02:50Did you guys ever think contractors would show up at your house?
02:53Hi. How are you? Good to see you.
02:54How's it going?
02:55We're here.
02:56Good to see you.
02:57One year later.
02:58Almost exactly.
02:59Really?
03:00You guys know Matt and Tim, right?
03:01Hi.
03:02We brought them today because it's been a year.
03:04You guys are ready to get back in, so we're just going to get started as we talk.
03:07Really, the four of us can get working and you two can talk about it.
03:10No, you can't get working because you don't know what you're doing.
03:11Let's just start outside.
03:12Oh, dude.
03:13Wow.
03:14Just tell them how you really am.
03:15Oh, I know.
03:16See what I'm saying?
03:17Not that you don't know what you're doing in general.
03:18We don't know what we're doing here.
03:19We have to listen to them.
03:20This is what I get all the time.
03:21Oh, gosh.
03:22So I'm Tyler Kettner.
03:23This is my wife, Nicole.
03:24We've been married for 16 years.
03:26We have five kids.
03:27Our family is very outdoorsy, very active.
03:30We try to keep them outside as much as we can.
03:32That was a large part of the appeal of this property that we bought.
03:35The land was just beautiful.
03:37We want to get chickens one day.
03:38We want to get cows.
03:39We want to have a place for our kids to play.
03:42But the house was the compromise.
03:44It's a little bit smaller than what we were used to, especially having five kids.
03:47Unfortunately, we only got to live here for about seven months before the tornado hit.
03:52It was terrifying.
03:53It's the middle of the night.
03:54We had to get in his car because my car was trapped, and we were able to get out of here.
03:58And so that night, we drove all the way to Little Flock, which is quite a ways away.
04:02And we got trapped by trees there.
04:04And so we actually got out and walked a mile to our friend's house in the rain with our five kids and our dog.
04:10It was about 3 a.m. in the morning by that time.
04:12Yeah.
04:13And so we made it to safety.
04:14And then about 6 in the morning, we couldn't take it any longer.
04:16We came back to the house.
04:18And so seeing the devastation then was very surreal.
04:22So much of the roof was blown off.
04:24The house was full of water.
04:25And it was just all destroyed, trees down everywhere.
04:28Like, we just, we didn't know what was going to happen next.
04:31We were able to get into a rental house.
04:34It seemed like our insurance, they were just delaying, delaying, delaying, delaying.
04:38And so after about six months, we decided it was time to hire an attorney.
04:42It has been a very hard year, not only for Tyler and I, but for our children.
04:46But this, Dave and Jenny doing our house, has brought so much light.
04:50It alleviates stress for our family knowing that Dave and Jenny are on the renovation.
04:53And they're starting soon, and we'll be back in our house very soon.
04:57All right, so you guys have $153,000 for the renovation, right?
05:00Yes.
05:01Yep.
05:02I mean, you guys got the new roof, right?
05:04Yes.
05:05Okay.
05:06I know you guys always use this door as your entrance, right?
05:09Correct.
05:10But this is the front door.
05:11We never really utilized this porch that much.
05:13Yeah.
05:14We just didn't use that door.
05:15Right.
05:16We had a neighbor come and knock on the door, and I was, like, scared.
05:18I was like, why is anybody coming at this door?
05:20Like, that's not...
05:21I mean, obviously, we need to make this livable, because you haven't lived here in a year.
05:24Yeah.
05:25But we're here, so let's figure out what we want to do, like hopes and dreams.
05:28I like everything.
05:29So whatever you think would be best.
05:31Is this actual cedar?
05:33I believe so.
05:34Yeah, it is.
05:35It definitely is.
05:36Is it in good condition?
05:37I think this part is probably the best condition around that side, where the tornado, more ripped
05:41stuff, there might be a lot more cracks.
05:43Oh, yeah.
05:44All right.
05:45So is this what it...
05:46This is what it ripped off?
05:47Yes.
05:48Okay.
05:49We don't know what happened to it.
05:50We never saw it again.
05:51Don't know where it ended up.
05:52So out here, I mean, we know we just need to figure out a way to make the entryway make
05:56more sense and be more functional.
05:58We'll add a new circular driveway leading up to what we'll now call the front door.
06:02We just need to clean everything up.
06:04We need new soffits, new windows, and a fresh coat of paint to really bring this house back
06:08to life.
06:09But I know we have a lot to do inside, so I feel like let's figure that out first and
06:13then we can finalize what we're doing out here.
06:14Yep.
06:15That sounds great.
06:16Okay.
06:17All right.
06:18So let's go check it out.
06:19Okay.
06:20Well, first of all, as we're standing here, I feel like we should center that door up.
06:26We do want more windows.
06:27If possible.
06:28There's like five in the house.
06:29There's very few windows in the house.
06:30Yeah.
06:31It would be amazing to have at least two windows or one giant one here.
06:35Yes.
06:36Yeah.
06:37Get some more light.
06:38The paint color's just terrible.
06:39Not our favorite.
06:40That's a nice shirt.
06:41Not our favorite.
06:42Terrible.
06:43We also would like a wood stove.
06:47Oh, yes.
06:48Just for power outages, things like that.
06:51Yeah.
06:52Let's talk about the floors.
06:53We have five kids.
06:54We have a dog.
06:55So we need a tough floor, but like a lighter floor I think would be good.
06:59For the living room, we can fit in everything you want.
07:01I agree as a mother of five that the durable floors are a must.
07:05And I think a large double door and more windows are totally doable to bring in more light.
07:10And finally, new paint and a wood burning stove that you can rely on to keep the house warm,
07:15even if the power goes out.
07:16OK, so whatever flooring we do is going to just flow all the way through the house.
07:20Yes, sir.
07:21That would be great.
07:22Yes, sir.
07:23Yes, please.
07:24And then the kitchen.
07:25So is this kind of from here back?
07:27Is that where the roof was ripped off?
07:28Yes.
07:29Yes.
07:30Yeah, the roof was gone.
07:31So I'm assuming this whole kitchen is going.
07:32Oh, yeah.
07:33It's trash.
07:34I hate these cabinets.
07:35And that window won't even close all the way.
07:37Are you wanting to keep kind of the layout or are you wanting to reorient?
07:41Not at all.
07:42OK.
07:43We would love to move the sink over underneath the window there.
07:45Yes, so it's like an L.
07:46Yes.
07:47Yes.
07:48And then we'd have more open space here, obviously.
07:50And then we could put cabinets along that wall on either side of the window.
07:53Exactly.
07:54Just because the house is on the smaller side.
07:56Right.
07:57And so storage.
07:58Yes.
07:59Is one thing that we definitely don't have a lot of.
08:01Taking all the cabinets all the way to the ceiling, just utilizing all the space.
08:04Yes, sir.
08:05Do you want an island or would you rather have a center table?
08:07No, I would rather have a table.
08:08Yes, we'd rather have a table and keep it open.
08:10Yes.
08:11Any preference on colors or anything?
08:13No?
08:14Whatever you want to do.
08:15Dave and Jenny are very creative people and we're not.
08:20And so we are very happy to hand the reins over to them as far as the design.
08:25We know it's going to be an improvement and we know it's going to be fantastic once they're done.
08:29For the kitchen, we'll reorient the cabinets to take advantage of this extra wall space.
08:34We can bring in some color on the cabinets and a few modern appliances that really pop.
08:38And then with a large table in the middle, I think this can easily give up enough space for your whole family.
08:43Okay, so then your room's behind.
08:45I guess you guys could start.
08:46Yeah, let's get rolling on this.
08:47Here.
08:48Okay.
08:57All right, so bedroom.
08:59I feel like you probably want something a little more soothing and soft in your bedroom.
09:02Yes, cozy and...
09:03Yes.
09:04Okay.
09:05Again, we just have the one window.
09:06Yeah, that'd be nice to do more windows.
09:07It'd be nice to have another larger or another window.
09:09Okay.
09:10I think that would help.
09:11In your room, nothing too crazy.
09:13Just carrying over the new flooring, add in a new window, and paint the walls maybe a softer, more soothing shade of blue.
09:20So this is your bathroom.
09:22Oh, yes.
09:23I don't know if you can make it happen.
09:25A toilet room.
09:26Water closet.
09:27Water closet.
09:28I was thinking that.
09:29I was thinking if we turned the bathroom, could we make that a water closet?
09:31I don't know.
09:32I think we can reorient the space.
09:33If there's enough room for a water closet and two sinks, that would be perfect.
09:36I do.
09:37Yeah.
09:38How's it going?
09:39Oh, my goodness.
09:40Looks good.
09:41That's awesome.
09:42You want to help?
09:43Yeah.
09:44Yeah, I'll help.
09:46Look at that.
09:48We don't usually have this where the homeowners come and help demo, but I figured you've been wanting to get this started for a while.
09:55Yeah.
09:56So.
09:57It's been a long time coming.
09:58It has been almost a year, and it's been a struggle for the Kettners with insurance, fighting, trying to get the money to do this renovation.
10:06I mean, I'd imagine Tyler has some frustrations that he needs to get out, and sometimes a sledgehammer is the best way to do it.
10:15But you know what?
10:16We are underway.
10:17Demo has begun, and from here, it's just quick pace moving forward.
10:22Okay, so obviously now we need to talk kids' rooms.
10:25Okay.
10:26This is the fun part.
10:27This is the girls' room.
10:28Okay.
10:29Because it's the smaller one, and there's only two of them.
10:30Yes.
10:31Okay.
10:32We had a bunk bed over here.
10:33Yeah, I was going to say, it's a tight space.
10:34Is that what you're thinking again?
10:35Bunk beds?
10:36Yes.
10:37Yeah.
10:38Okay.
10:39This is the boys' room.
10:40We had a bunk bed here, and then we had a twin bed here since there's three of them.
10:42That makes sense.
10:43Yep.
10:44And how old are they?
10:45They are 14, 13, and 12.
10:48Okay.
10:49So we'll figure out the best use of space here, but this really needs to be sort of a grown-up,
10:53teen boy room.
10:54Yes.
10:55Not little kid.
10:56No.
10:57Not only do we make this house livable again, but we've got to make it work well for the Kettners.
11:02They have five kids, and they need more space.
11:04You know, it's like our family where they're like, hey, we have only so much space.
11:07Yeah.
11:08Go enjoy outdoors.
11:09I know.
11:10And so, I love it.
11:11But we need to make sure inside hasn't much storage as we can.
11:13Agreed.
11:14That's what I'm saying.
11:15Yeah.
11:16And summer just started, so we need to wrap this project up as soon as possible so that
11:18the Kettners can move in before school starts this fall.
11:21All this gets gutted out, too?
11:23Yeah.
11:24Oh, man.
11:25Hey, Matt.
11:26Yeah?
11:27Can you see above the bathroom?
11:30Oh, Dave.
11:31One of the vents is off.
11:32Do you see daylight?
11:33I do.
11:34Yeah.
11:35When was the roof done?
11:36Uh, August of last year.
11:38Look at it, Rooster.
11:39Got a big hole in your roof.
11:42Oh, Dave.
11:43Got a big hole in your roof.
11:44Oh, Dave.
11:45Got a big hole in your roof.
11:46To add insult to injury, as if fighting the insurance wasn't hard enough, you know,
12:04trying to get the money to fix their house, they had a new roof put on just so they could
12:09protect the current structure as it is.
12:11Mm-hmm.
12:12And the guys putting it on the roof, they didn't install the cap on this vent correctly,
12:15so the inside has been exposed to the elements this whole time.
12:18So we've got to fix something that's brand new.
12:21All right.
12:22Well, we got to get that fixed.
12:24All right.
12:25Let's get back to tearing stuff out of here.
12:27Okay.
12:28Luckily, it's an easy fix, but I can just see it.
12:30They're just tired.
12:31Like, oh, yeah, there's another hole in the roof.
12:33Like, nothing surprises them anymore.
12:36When you're asking them what they want, yeah, we just want a nice house.
12:40Yeah.
12:41They're just ready to get back into their place, and we can do that for them.
12:55What's up, Ann?
12:56Hey.
12:57How's it going?
12:58Good.
12:59Okay.
13:00So out here, then, we have the circular.
13:01Yeah, the circular driveway, which I think will be really pretty.
13:03We have the space.
13:04Yeah.
13:05And it'll really define the entrance of the house, which is what we need right now.
13:09So.
13:10Let's paint it out.
13:11Do you think we should have her try to drive the circle so we can kind of watch, like,
13:15what radius we need to make it?
13:16Probably.
13:17We are just mapping out the front driveway.
13:20Apparently, I'm the stunt driver, too, I guess.
13:23I have to...
13:24I don't know why I have to drive it.
13:25I mean, you're not a stunt driver.
13:27You're driving a circle.
13:28Yeah, but it's in grass.
13:29What if I get stuck?
13:30Oh, my gosh.
13:31You're not going to get stuck.
13:32How would you get stuck in grass?
13:33We had a lot of rain here.
13:35Yeah, you can see that good.
13:38I think if she just keeps her tire right on the paint.
13:42Okay.
13:45So we're trying to get as tight of a circle as we can.
13:49You know, like, you don't want a huge, giant circle.
13:52We want something that fits just a normal car, which is what that is.
13:56Feels kind of tight.
13:58So does it need to go wider?
13:59Wait, go around one more time.
14:01That's what I'm doing.
14:02Maybe, yeah, maybe out just a little bit, so like a truck.
14:05So maybe, yeah, like that.
14:06Oh, I'm running over all sorts.
14:07There you go.
14:08That's perfect.
14:09Right in there.
14:10Go!
14:14Oh, my gosh.
14:15Are you serious?
14:16Jenny, what did you do?
14:18I told you!
14:19Oh, my gosh!
14:20Did I not say?
14:21Jenny!
14:22What did you do?
14:23Your back tire's off the ground.
14:25Now we're stuck here.
14:28Oh, my gosh.
14:29There's so much to do.
14:31Wait, can we talk about something first?
14:33Yes.
14:34This was the line we were wanting you to kind of get staked with.
14:36You told me to go wide.
14:38You said go wide.
14:39Wide is like a foot.
14:40But I told you both.
14:41This was not a good idea.
14:43I could get stuck, and you both laughed at me.
14:45Did you not see the hole right there?
14:47No, I didn't see the hole.
14:48I was looking at the green paint on the green grass.
14:52Jenny.
14:54We're not going to be able to let Jenny drive on these job sites anymore.
14:57Oh, my gosh.
14:59Sweet mercy.
15:00It's good that it happened to you and not the Kettners when they came here to look at the house.
15:04Yeah, I guess.
15:05That's great.
15:07All right, so what are we thinking for the court here?
15:09Kettners love basketball.
15:11We see them at every single basketball game where their kids are playing.
15:14When their kids aren't playing, they're there.
15:16Yep.
15:17So they asked us to come up with an idea for an area outside where the whole family could play.
15:21Yeah, I almost think we get like, what, 15 feet from that.
15:23Kind of like where the grass is.
15:24Yeah.
15:25Like center it up there and then, yeah, just right through here.
15:28All five of the Kettner kids play basketball.
15:30They play with our kids, so I know they'll love this court.
15:33And maybe we can even put in pickleball, too, so that way the whole family and all their friends can use this space together.
15:39So we're working on the kids' bedrooms at Kettner.
15:54There are five kiddos, three boys, two girls, and there are two very small rooms for all five of these kids.
16:01So we have to get creative with beds and storage for the kids in these spaces.
16:06This is the lower bed for the boys.
16:09Okay.
16:10On one side, I was thinking we'd do the bunks.
16:12And on the other side, we have a top bunk.
16:15But then underneath, we can have like a desk space for homework and all that.
16:18You want a desk or do you want like closet space?
16:21Well, I was...
16:22There's three kids.
16:23What if underneath we did a stack of drawers?
16:27So like half of it is drawers and half of it's a desk.
16:30Yeah, I think...
16:31I guess that'd be fine.
16:32So the girls' room, I was thinking on the stairs going up to the top bunk, the fronts of the stairs are drawers.
16:39Again, for more storage.
16:41And then I thought on the little railing on the top of the bunk bed, we could do maybe like a scalloped top.
16:49Like that.
16:50So what I need from you, love, is to draw what the scallop is.
17:00I'm just trying to do something different on the girls' bunk beds because Nicole mentioned they both really like very girly things.
17:07They want their room to be very girly and want to just add some fun little scallops on their bed.
17:13We're testing it out.
17:14We'll see.
17:15I don't know.
17:16It might not work.
17:17You got to see it.
17:18I'm a visual person.
17:19You just have to see it.
17:20It's freaking cute.
17:22Looks like a fence, but...
17:24You don't think it's cute?
17:25I think it's adorable.
17:26Do you want to go put it on Luke's bunk bed to look at it and see how it would look on a bed?
17:29Okay.
17:30I think it could be cute.
17:35Look at the picture.
17:37I think that'd be fun.
17:38Isn't that cute?
17:39I think it's adorable.
17:40All right.
17:41Love you.
17:42You're doing great.
17:43I'm going to go come up with some good ideas.
17:44Thanks.
17:51Demo is wrapping up at the Kettner house.
17:53Once the flooring is completely removed, we can take out the damaged ceiling drywall throughout the kitchen.
17:58That's dope.
18:00Also in the main bedroom, the old shower is completely coming out so we can build the custom shower of their dreams.
18:06We're not changing the closet because they had just redone it, but we're going to put a double vanity here instead of just a single.
18:13And then we're going to make it to where you can have your own space in the toilet before everything was out in the open.
18:19So they'll have a little bit of privacy.
18:21It's coming along.
18:32You know, the reason we are even doing this remodel is because a tornado destroyed their home.
18:37In the middle of the storm, they had to actually run to their neighbors to go into a storm shelter.
18:42So we're surprising them with their very own storm shelter that a company has donated.
18:47It's going to be installed underground.
18:49It's a really good sized one so that there'll be plenty of room for the entire Kettner family.
18:54If they have friends over, whomever needs to get in there, they'll be able to all fit comfortably.
18:58He can come to us.
18:59You want to bring the boomer a little bit more?
19:02They are going to feel that peace of mind and that security.
19:05And they're going to be able to, you know, reassure their kids because they're coming back to a place that was destroyed by a storm.
19:10So there is a little bit of fear there.
19:12They haven't lived in this house since the storm.
19:14So to know that, okay, we're back home.
19:17It's beautiful.
19:18And we have this place that we can go if a storm comes through again.
19:22We'll give them that peace of mind.
19:24Moment of truth.
19:25That was right on.
19:27Curious to see what it looks like inside.
19:30I'm very claustrophobic because my palms are sweating a little bit just thinking about going inside of that thing.
19:38This way.
19:41Shoot, that's nice.
19:43That is nice.
19:44There's like a little bench down there.
19:45Go check it out.
19:46I'll follow you.
19:47No, you go.
19:48I'm good.
19:49You've got to go.
19:50I'm not going in.
19:51It's for the Kettners.
19:52Come on.
19:53I'm good.
19:54You go.
19:55Just let me know how it is.
19:56Jenny, it is spacious.
19:57It's 10 people.
19:58Come on.
19:59Just don't close the door.
20:00Nobody close this door, please.
20:01We're not going to close the door.
20:02I think...
20:03I don't know.
20:04It's actually really nice.
20:05Oh, God!
20:06Ah!
20:07Come on.
20:08Just don't close the door.
20:09Nobody close this door, please.
20:10We're not going to close the door.
20:11Oh, God!
20:12Oh, God!
20:13Matt Mars, how long have you been down here?
20:14Why?
20:15Why do you think you're so funny?
20:16Gosh, you guys keep doing this stuff to me.
20:17Oh, this is nice.
20:18There's like a little bench down there.
20:19It is spacious.
20:20It's 10 people.
20:21That's pretty slick.
20:22Oh, it's so nice.
20:23There's like the landscape picture that she put down there.
20:24Yeah, the scene is very peaceful.
20:25There's so much room.
20:26She didn't even know Matt was down there.
20:27I don't know why they keep doing this stuff to me.
20:28You did the same thing.
20:29I'm done.
20:30I'm done.
20:31I'm done.
20:32I'm done.
20:33I'm done.
20:34I'm done.
20:35I'm done.
20:36I'm done.
20:37I'm done.
20:38I've got to go.
20:39You guys.
20:40Oh, my gosh, you guys keep doing this stuff to me.
20:41Oh, this is nice.
20:42There's like a little bench down there.
20:43It is spacious.
20:44It's ten people.
20:45That's pretty slick.
20:46Oh, it's so nice.
20:47There's like the landscape picture that she put down there.
20:48Yeah, the scene is very peaceful.
20:49There's so much room.
20:50She didn't even know Matt was down there.
20:51I don't know why they keep doing this stuff to me.
20:52You did the same thing.
20:53The Kettner's new casement windows have finally come in.
21:00We're massively increasing the natural light coming into this house, so it'll feel brighter,
21:05newer, and more open.
21:06In the kitchen, cabinets have been delivered and are ready to be installed.
21:10And finally, on the exterior, we have the guys painting the bricks and soffits in
21:14white and the wood panels in a contrasting blue.
21:17It's a clean, fresh color combination that'll make this house feel brand new to the Kettners.
21:22The transformation already, can we talk about the paint, babe?
21:26Oh, it's way better.
21:27It's so good.
21:28It's already completely different.
21:30The blue outside looks awesome, and we're going to have some blue in the bedroom.
21:34So this house, it's just all going to tie together so well.
21:37The new double doors here.
21:38My gosh, the windows, everything looks so good.
21:40Oh, the windows look amazing.
21:41Now I want to measure for a hutch in the kitchen.
21:44Okay.
21:45I was thinking we need something on that one wall across from the run of cabinetry.
21:49We have a big blank wall.
21:51This one is 69 by 71 high.
21:55I have two hutches at Mars on Main, our new store downtown.
22:00And so I want to see if either one of those will work.
22:03I love that.
22:04You know I love that piece.
22:05Okay, now let's go to the next picture.
22:07This one.
22:08And I love that one too.
22:10That one feels...
22:11That's kind of more farm.
22:12It feels like this house, doesn't it?
22:14I love that one.
22:16I love it.
22:17It's like one of my actual favorite.
22:18And it looks so good in that spot in the store.
22:20So I sort of hate to sell it, but I also want it to go to a really good home.
22:23And this is a really good home.
22:24So that makes me happy.
22:25I mean this house was seven people.
22:26We've got to add storage anywhere we possibly can.
22:29And this is a farmhouse.
22:30It needs to have some old pieces in here to really give it some soul.
22:35Yeah.
22:36You love the Kettners.
22:37I know.
22:38You love that piece.
22:39They'll love that piece.
22:40Well it would be really weird if I call her every so often and just check on it and see
22:43how it's doing here.
22:44Well just threaten her.
22:45When we give her back the house, just say if you ever sell this, I'll cut you.
22:48I want it.
22:49All right.
22:50I thought you were going to say I'll buy it back.
22:53Oh you can say that too.
23:01We're moving quickly on the Kettners' home so they can be moved in by the time school
23:05starts.
23:06Nicole and I are also both busy moms trying to get the kids ready for a new school year.
23:10Hi.
23:11Hello.
23:12Hi.
23:13Welcome in.
23:14Thanks.
23:15How are you guys?
23:16Good.
23:18So we're going to do double duty and coordinate our shopping trips so I can give Nicole an
23:21update on the build.
23:23Hang on.
23:24I'll be right back.
23:25Hey guys.
23:26How are you doing?
23:27Your house is coming along.
23:28Oh man.
23:30Are you guys excited?
23:31Yeah.
23:32Yeah.
23:33It's been a long summer.
23:34Yes.
23:35Long year.
23:36Is everything going okay?
23:37Is there like any major problems?
23:39No.
23:40There's really not.
23:41It is getting so close.
23:43It's so pretty and so happy.
23:45I feel like it's a happy house now.
23:47And that's what we want it to be.
23:48Yes.
23:49So when you guys come back it's not your last memories of the house are not good.
23:52Yeah.
23:53So we need to replace those with happy ones.
23:54Yeah.
23:55You know?
23:56Like I'm like so like every time we would make that curve.
23:57Yes.
23:58Around to our house like my stomach would hurt.
24:00Yeah.
24:01Like just seeing all the damage and stuff and so like it's going to be weird to drive
24:03around and have a new feeling.
24:05Have new.
24:06Yes.
24:07I'm excited for that.
24:08Yes.
24:09Right after school starts they're going to be able to get moved back in and I know they are
24:11so ready and it was just really good to see them and catch up a little bit.
24:15We will see you very soon.
24:16Thank you so much.
24:17We'll see you at back to school night.
24:18Yes.
24:19At school and then we'll see you at the house.
24:20Okay.
24:21Thank you so much.
24:22Bye.
24:23Bye.
24:24We have this light bright durable flooring going in that will stand up to the wear and
24:34tear of the five Kettner kids.
24:36All right.
24:37I've got hardware.
24:38Oh you got the front door hardware.
24:41This stuff is heavy.
24:43Look how pretty this door hardware is.
24:47So the Kettner kitchen is really soft.
24:50We have this light airy house now.
24:52It's all bright.
24:53We have all this sunshine coming in.
24:55I wanted to make everything family friendly so I chose dark appliances to hide messes and
25:00Nicole loves the color blue.
25:01So I chose the shade of blue for the cabinets that I not only know she'll love but it's all
25:05keeping with the home's farmhouse aesthetic.
25:08Oh the fireplace is here babe.
25:12Hey.
25:13Oh.
25:14It's probably really heavy isn't it?
25:15What does this thing weigh?
25:16300 pounds.
25:17Oh babe you can carry that.
25:18Yeah.
25:19I could carry but I don't want to show these guys.
25:21Let me grab the tractor.
25:22Make them feel bad.
25:23That's right.
25:24Just get the tractor.
25:25It's going to heat up this entire house in the winter with just this one woodwarding stove
25:30so it'll be a great addition.
25:32It'll be really pretty because I love a stove but it'll also be incredibly functional for
25:37them which I love.
25:39So we've got to cut this down obviously.
25:42I don't know if you can.
25:44Wait really?
25:45We can't have this fireproof pad sticking out past the wall.
25:48It just looks weird.
25:49Hey if we have a grinder can we go ahead and cut this to the wall?
25:53Or do we need to leave it this size?
25:55Well, I'll have to measure.
26:00Alright so now how far back can it go?
26:04We have to have enough clearance with this pad underneath the fireplace stove for safety
26:11and you know you don't want to have the fire too close to the LVP flooring.
26:16But now we have this pad that's sticking out into the middle of the room and it looks a little weird.
26:22Alright so now how far back can it go?
26:28Moment of truth here.
26:29Oh, is that oh?
26:32Really?
26:33Yeah.
26:34You're not going to be able to take anything off of it.
26:36I almost think you should put it straight so we can get it back further.
26:43I know but I don't think it would look good straight.
26:45We could notch that corner.
26:46Yeah, let's do that.
26:47I think that's a great idea and it'll look so much better.
26:50So we're going to keep it at an angle and change out the pad so that it has 45s on each side
26:56and it looks more intentional.
26:58This is beautiful too.
26:59Stack some wood in there.
27:00So pretty.
27:01Thanks everybody.
27:02Looks good.
27:03So we're here at my friend Buddy's house.
27:12Buddy is a artist and I wanted to have Luke paint something for Nicole Kettner.
27:18There he is.
27:19Hello.
27:20Oh my gosh.
27:21Come in.
27:22How are you?
27:23Thanks for having me.
27:24Good.
27:25How are y'all?
27:26It's been a while.
27:27Oh, we're good.
27:28Alright, so Miss Kettner was Luke's preschool teacher.
27:29Right?
27:30Mm-hmm.
27:31And we're renovating her house.
27:32So I thought it would be fun to have a Luke slash Buddy original painting.
27:38Well, Luke is a great artist.
27:39Well, Luke is a great artist.
27:40Yes, I know.
27:41Luke, what do you want to do?
27:42What do you want to do?
27:43Think about it.
27:44Here, sit up here.
27:45We can do a penguin.
27:46Yeah.
27:47Okay.
27:48Okay.
27:49Let's cut a piece of canvas and lay it up here and we can start drawing it out.
27:55Luke's favorite animal slash thing in the world is a penguin.
28:02And so he's going to make Miss Kettner a penguin.
28:05She was his preschool teacher and I feel like I know my sister is a teacher and she loves
28:10to get gifts from her kids.
28:12And I think it would just be a nice little gift for her to have a piece of art from one
28:16of her students in her home.
28:17Oh, he's so cute.
28:18What are we going to name him?
28:20Luke.
28:21You're going to name him Luke?
28:23Wow.
28:24Well, that's cute.
28:25That is cute.
28:26I think she's going to love this Luke.
28:27Are you satisfied with it?
28:28Take a step back and look at it.
28:29Two thumbs up.
28:30Not just one, two.
28:31Are you paying for it?
28:32Yes.
28:33He's the artist.
28:34He doesn't pay.
28:35With only two weeks left until the Kettner family moves back in.
28:38We're putting down gravel for the circular driveway to help define the front of the house.
28:45In the kitchen, electricians are running wiring for the new sconces and the countertops are
28:49here.
28:50The bunk beds are being installed in the girls' and the boys' rooms.
28:51Looks good.
28:52This is not a big room, but we've got, you know, the two on one side, one higher one right
28:57when you enter the room.
28:58It looks good.
28:59Good job.
29:00And I'm happy to say that the protective pad under the woodwarding stove has the corner
29:07notched out now, and it looks much better.
29:09Look at this bathroom.
29:10Oh, my God.
29:11Look, it has a little bench seat.
29:13That shower is amazing.
29:14Oh, my God.
29:15Oh, my God.
29:16That shower is amazing.
29:17Oh, my God.
29:18Oh, my God.
29:19Oh, my God.
29:20Oh, my God.
29:21Oh, my God.
29:22Oh, my God.
29:23Oh, my God.
29:24Oh, my God.
29:25Oh, my God.
29:26Oh, my God.
29:27Oh, my God.
29:28Oh, my God.
29:29Oh, my God.
29:30Oh, my God.
29:31This shower is amazing.
29:32Oh, my God.
29:33Isn't that pretty?
29:34They even have a door, a little toilet, a window.
29:35Yeah.
29:36It's really look good.
29:37I love it.
29:38And now that the exterior lighting is going up, this is finally starting to look like a
29:44home again.
29:45I'm so excited and scared at the same time.
29:49There they are.
29:50There they are.
29:51Okay.
29:52Oh, gosh.
29:53Oh, my God.
29:55What is this?
29:58so the kettner family i know they all play basketball they love basketball they're just a
30:07very athletic family but i know that this can be basketball or pickleball we have it striped for
30:12both our courts are completely customizable so yeah so they'll be able to play ball my kids are
30:17gonna be so jealous and they're gonna have want to come over all the time because pickleball is
30:20super fun yeah everybody loves it exactly yes okay this is awesome so how does this work yeah so
30:25here's the template okay um first row is gonna go right down the baseline of the court okay it's
30:30already in order ready to go and so start here and just keep on going down come on jenny do the
30:41shuffle take off there you go see bravo look how cool it looks so good it looks so good already
30:49dave's on his way with the hutch he's having to drive slowly because it's very fragile on the
30:55back of his truck i'm getting a little bit concerned because i'm wondering where he is
30:59hopefully the hatch is safe and he's safe of course but but he should be here soon
31:03look at this look how cool this court is is this not amazing i want this at our house i know that's
31:19what i said i want to see this together so tim and i can play a little two-on-two versus you and
31:24that ain't gonna happen he wore his tennis shoes yeah his sporty cowboy boots you got you got your
31:32cutoff jean shorts you can throw on okay should we go move the hutch inside real quick just want
31:38to see it in there we got this hutch from our store it's an antique that we found and it actually
31:44is one of my favorite pieces kind of hated to part with it but as dave tells me that's the point
31:50of the stores to actually sell stuff oh it's perfect let's go back to work yes let's finish this court
31:59last minute things
32:08with this room and three boys in here it's all about maximizing all the space we can
32:16it's still got to do homework so screw that in there i got the two tops i'm going to set on
32:22we are finishing up the kettner house we are we have furniture in it's all the last minute details
32:28a lot of stuff needs to happen to make it feel like a home um so yeah we got a lot to do
32:34this is a kitchen i feel like that is fit for seven people
32:41it took almost a year to get to a point where they were able to even start fixing their home
32:49the bedrooms were a little bit of a challenge like jenny said it's all about functionality with a
32:54family of seven you got to figure out all the spaces and make everything work but i think they
32:59turned out great yeah i mean they obviously were traumatized by that night and what happened during
33:05that storm and so to have this storm shelter in their backyard where they can go and they can
33:11come home and feel safe it means a lot that really does
33:14all right kids what do you what are you guys excited for
33:20i'm so excited and scared at the same time okay this is it oh my gosh any second too kind of emotional
33:32after a year over a year i've been out of this house i can't i see it i see it there they are there
33:40okay oh gosh okay
33:42i see it i see it
33:50there's a basketball court
33:57there's a basketball court
34:00what's this
34:04great to see y'all
34:09that's where i would have gone oh my god oh my goodness boys so cool oh my gosh pickleball too
34:27that pickleball rolls right in right out that is awesome this is so much better than i never
34:34thought it would be i can't even believe this oh my goodness there's so much more to see
34:40come on we'll show you this out here real quick okay so is it a tornado shelter oh my gosh
34:49oh wow go check it out oh you want to go down step down in there somebody go down in there
34:56oh wow that's so cool it's tall enough i can stand wow i can't stand that's awesome
35:01there's benches we don't have to bring our own chairs that's so cool
35:04there's a picture i know i love it we tried to make it peaceful yeah
35:08no that's amazing
35:11thank you you're welcome sweetheart oh you're so welcome
35:14don't hit your heads kids we changed the shape of the driveway so that people can actually
35:20come in and go around and it really creates the front of your house
35:24yes i love this because before you can tell
35:27now the front of the house is the front of the house
35:29exactly
35:30we can use this in front of the house
35:31yay
35:32that's awesome
35:33i went with the dark blue for the siding with the black windows the black door
35:37and then painted the brick white so it just really looks like a classic house
35:41oh yeah and it feels so much more defined in this front porch just with the paint and the
35:45new lights
35:46that's amazing
35:48okay so i assume you guys want to go play for a little bit so you guys go play we'll
35:52show your parents inside and then you can come in when you're done playing
35:54how about that
