Keaton Jones Mother Accused of Racism | Hollywoodlife
Transcript
00:01Keaton Jones puts bullies on blast to the whole world, but now there's accusations his mother is a money-hungry racist.
00:07So yes, Internet, this is why we can't have nice things.
00:12Hey guys, it's Gino with a special report.
00:15An 11-year-old East Tennessee middle school student, Keaton Jones, went viral when he asked a very simple question about bullies.
00:21Why do they bully? What's the point of it? They call me ugly, they say I have no friends.
00:27Of course, Keaton isn't ugly, he's freaking adorable, and literally the whole Internet agrees.
00:32So many celebrities have reached out. Our favorite, Justin Bieber, even recorded Keaton a message.
00:37This kid is all-time. He's a legend. Go check him out. His name's Keaton.
00:40Many other celebs responded, from Captain America himself to Hailee Steinfeld, who suspiciously invited this viral sensation to help her promote her new movie.
00:48And I would love for you, Keaton Jones, to be my date to the Pitch Perfect 3 premiere on Tuesday.
00:54Keaton also just gave his first interview since Viral Fame and said the idea to make the video was all his and admitted he always felt too scared to tell teachers about what he was going through.
01:05You never complain to a teacher. You never complain to a principal.
01:09I was afraid that they would for sure attack.
01:13He became more and more agitated. He didn't want to go back to sleep.
01:16That's Keaton's mother, who originally shared the video on her Facebook, she says at her son's request.
01:22But this is where things take a darker turn.
01:24A GoFundMe was set up in Keaton's name and already racked up $57,000 in donations, but it was suddenly paused.
01:31News broke that MMA fighter Joe Schilling offered to take Keaton to a UFC-style event, but claims he was told by Keaton's mother, Kimberly Jones, that she just wants money.
01:40She just wants money. She just wants me to share her GoFundMe account. And I asked what the GoFundMe account for. What is it for?
01:47And she said, oh, you know, Christmas is coming and I'm a single mother and blah, blah, blah. Money's tight, whatever. Make your own judgment on that.
01:56However, Schilling has since deleted the video where he made these claims.
02:00A closer look at the mother, Kimberly's Facebook page revealed her posing with a Confederate flag, a symbol of Southern pride for some, but let's be real, a symbol of slavery and racial hatred as well.
02:11Her daughter's Twitter also contained a family photo with a Confederate flag. However, Kimberly says she's not a racist.
02:16It was ironic. It was funny.
02:18It didn't have anything to do with racist intent.
02:21I don't know. I've said I spent most of my life being bullied and judged because I wasn't racist.
02:26I don't know about you guys, but I don't ironically pose next to symbols of hate.
02:30But you know what? Let's not get distracted. This isn't about Keaton's mother's politics, whatever they are.
02:35This is about a boy who has awakened the conscience of America about the issue of bullying.
02:40I've been bullied many times. I was probably mean to other kids, too.
02:43Literally anyone who went to public school in America was bullied at some point.
02:47And right now we can thank Keaton for reminding us that on the inside, we're all that weird kid eating their lunch alone and we need to be kind to each other.
