00:00So just some observations, Seth, that kind of, we'll probably kind of close the book on Kansas City today and tomorrow and start to look ahead to Arizona on Sunday.
00:09But, and I won't get to all of these, but the officiating is always a big topic when the Chiefs are involved in a game, and that's independent of the Texans.
00:19I thought these refs were, especially early on, atrocious for both teams.
00:23Yeah, just including some of the Tiki-Tak stuff, the Booth Review being overturned by Booth Review.
00:29Yeah.
00:30I'm like, what the hell?
00:32That was so weird.
00:34Because they got the call right eventually, but at first I'm like.
00:37They got the call right at, yeah, yeah.
00:39I'm like, oh, are you allowed to overturn, replay assist?
00:42I feel like that's like overturning God.
00:44There was a Jaden Higgins first down.
00:46Yeah.
00:47They ruled that it was a first down.
00:49Right.
00:49Correct.
00:50Or no, no, they ruled it wasn't.
00:51And then Booth Review said it was.
00:53And then.
00:54And then Mike Tirico apparently is on the call as well.
00:57Apparently he's part of the Booth Review.
00:59Yeah.
00:59Mike Tirico correctly pointed out that it actually wasn't a first down.
01:03He was annoying me.
01:04Yeah.
01:04It's hard for Tirico to annoy me, but he was annoying me in that moment, damn it.
01:07Yep, yep.
01:08And then they.
01:08The illegal shift, though, which is, I know, what you're building to.
01:12Yeah.
01:13On the Dalton, what would have been a Dalton Schultz touchdown.
01:16Yeah.
01:17And it was because he had two guys in motion at the same time by a millisecond, basically.
01:24Yeah.
01:24And that's where, you know why that's extra annoying?
01:26Because the Chiefs fans were all upset that on Tommy Togia's sack, they didn't call offsides
01:33on, or encroachment by Mario Edwards.
01:36Yep.
01:36I went back and watched it, and Mario Edwards was not offsides.
01:39But a Chiefs wide receiver was moving towards the line of a scrimmage at the snap.
01:44That should have been an illegal procedure.
01:47That was illegal motion, and they didn't call it.
01:49The offsides on the Stover shove would have been a first down.
01:53Yeah.
01:54That was ticky-tack as hell.
01:57I just, I don't know.
01:58Well, they called the wrong guy, probably, too.
02:01But this is why they've got to get rid of the tush push.
02:05It's just, it's not consistently called.
02:06No.
02:07I was okay with that, because I thought technically it was.
02:09And I would prefer that they call it like that more consistently, so the tush push wouldn't
02:14have such an extreme advantage.
02:16Yeah.
02:16We mentioned earlier, you mentioned earlier, Seth, my observations.
02:20If I were a Chiefs fan, I'd have been mad as hell watching that game, watching Chris Jones
02:23decide to wreck shop tonight, you know, on Sunday night.
02:27Like, this will be the game where I turn the switch up to nine and a half, you know, as opposed
02:32to the rest of the season where, you know, reportedly, I don't watch all the Chiefs games,
02:36but his intensity level has been significantly less than it was when he decided to turn it
02:41on in the early second half last night.
02:43Well, the low light that everybody remembers is when they were playing the Jaguars, they're
02:47down in the red zone, and he just stopped playing.
02:50Yeah.
02:50The Jags won on the winning play.
02:52I mean, but that's been Chris Jones' entire career.
02:55He's hot and cold, and he'll just kind of cruise through games, but then all of a sudden
03:00show up in the fourth quarter.
03:01But yeah, this was by, this was his second highest grade of the season on PFF.
03:10Looked at it.
03:11He's only done it one other time the entire season.
03:14It was versus Las Vegas.
03:15Yeah.
03:15So, like, in games where it really matters, this is the first time he's really turned it
03:21up like this.
03:21I do like that every Texan player gave their college on the intros.
03:26They didn't do some stupid high school or hometown shout-out.
03:29It's there for you to tell what college.
03:31Did you play in the era where the intros included you guys saying what college you went to?
03:37Yes.
03:38And I think that, and guys would still sometimes say their high school.
03:42Yeah.
03:42Yeah.
03:43What did you do?
03:43I always just said Cornell because it was so rare that Cornell got a shout-out.
03:47Yeah, man.
03:48You know, I wanted to be sure that I gave them their due.
03:50That's why I'm glad guys like Kamari Lasseter say Georgia, because, you know, Georgia doesn't
03:53get enough credit these days.
03:54Yeah.
03:55Yeah.
03:55So, I'm petty about that.
04:00I thought this game was a great example of sack numbers maybe being overrated, because
04:05the Texans, and I think last week's game against the Colts was an example of that, too.
04:10But this, to an extreme degree, the Colts, I'm sorry, the Texans were in Patrick Mahomes'
04:16kitchen all night long.
04:17Oh, yeah.
04:18Yeah.
04:18And it was, I mean, for one, the Chiefs a lot of times were using max protection to try
04:23to limit the defensive ends, and the bad offensive line, because I had a couple people tell me
04:30during the game, like, whoa, I thought this offensive line was supposed to be bad.
04:33And I would say, yes.
04:34Do you see Pat Mahomes' numbers?
04:35Like, there's times where he's only got two guys out on routes.
04:39And what the Texans did a good job of was their linebackers, the Texans linebackers and
04:43defensive backs at times did a really good job of recognizing the Chiefs were in max protection
04:48and entering the pass rush.
04:51So, like, Henry Totoa had a couple good examples of it.
04:55Kamari Lasseter came from about 15 yards out on that one snap, where he recognized that
05:01there was a receiver and a tight end that were staying on Daniil Hunter.
05:04Yep.
05:04So he said, all right, screw it, here I go.
05:06Yeah.
05:06And from 15 yards out, comes in and dusts the tight end that tried to block him, or the
05:11receiver that tried to block him, and then got the quarterback.
05:15So, yeah, the sacks were overrated in this game also because the Texans' defense did
05:23a good job of contain rushing Pat Mahomes.
05:25And he still ended up being the biggest threat on the ground.
05:28Yep.
05:28Pat Mahomes still ended up having some pretty lethal rushes, but by and large, they made
05:33him really uncomfortable, and he had the worst game he's ever had in the NFL.
05:36Yep.
05:36Other than a couple chunk plays, the biggest, the only real threat the Chiefs had was Mahomes
05:41scrambling out of the pocket.
05:42Well, the nice thing about being a defensive lineman on a defense like this is that a lot
05:48of times you'll have a really good pass rush, and you'll get a pressure, and it's still
05:53a complete pass for 25 yards.
05:55Here, you get the positive reinforcement of, hey, we don't have to get the sacks.
06:00As long as we put pressure on the guy, he'll throw three interceptions.
06:04Yeah.
06:04Or he'll complete less than 50% of his passes because we've got the coverage behind us.
06:08Yep.
06:09And the whole complementary side of it was really in full effect in that game.
06:13The Texans have to be more opportunistic.
06:16After the Jalen Petrie interception, they didn't do anything with it.
06:20That possession was around midfield.
06:21They were up 10-0.
06:23They could have buried the Chiefs early just by going, even if you get three there.
06:28In a game like that, three would have been huge.
06:30But you go down and get a touchdown there, and that was when they were moving the football,
06:33too.
06:33That was in the first half, so there's no excuse.
06:36The last possession of the first half has been disastrous for this team more often than
06:40not, not just Sunday, but throughout the season.
06:42Just atrocious.
06:43Third and 16, they don't use a timeout.
06:46They let the clock go all the way down under 30 seconds.
06:49They're not in field goal range yet.
06:52And then they have to use a timeout to avoid a 10-second runoff because they have a false
06:57start.
06:58So it's just total amateur hour at the end of the half.
07:01And then the beginning of the second half was just as bad.
07:05They had a holding penalty on the first play of the second half on the kickoff of the second
07:10half.
07:10And there was not a positive play for the Texans until like the eighth or ninth play of
07:15the half.
07:16They went three and out, looked atrocious.
07:18The first play of the second half was a hold on a kickoff.
07:22The first play from scrimmage was a negative four-yard run by Woody Marks.
07:25And then the Chiefs' first play from scrimmage offensively was a 35-yard deep shot to, I
07:32think it was to Hollywood Brown.
07:34Just an awful start.
07:35Like, you know, the middle eight is the new rage right now.
07:38The last four minutes of the first half, first four of the second half.
07:41And the Texans were an F-minus-minus there.
07:44Well, and the Chiefs' offense came out and drove on the Texans' defense.
07:47That's when you started to get nervous and think, oh, great.
07:49Mahomes has decided to wake up here.
07:51Big time.
07:51But then the fourth quarter, Mahomes had the exact same type.
07:54I mean, that fourth quarter was so beautifully atrocious by the Chiefs' offense.
08:00I mean, the Texans, with full credit to the Texans' defense for making them look like that.
08:04I mean, at that one point, Mahomes was 0 for 9, including an attempt in the third quarter.
08:10But when Collinsworth said that, I'm like, yep, that matches the eyeball test.
08:14Yeah.
08:15I'd like to, you know what?
08:16I'm going to do, hey, Ben, I want to do a quick acknowledgement here.
08:19Bucky Brooks.
08:20Acknowledge me.
08:22Remember about three weeks ago, Seth, when all 10 of the NFL.com experts took the Bills over the Texans in NRG Stadium?
08:31The ultimate slap in the face.
08:33And all 10 of them were wrong.
08:34The Texans beat the Bills.
08:36This past week, 9 of the 10, and these are people like Adam Rank and Colleen Wolfe and Daniel Jeremiah,
08:43a lot of names that you know.
08:44If you go to NFL.com, they're all people you read or see on social media.
08:489 of the 10 took the Chiefs.
08:51Bucky Brooks, 20-17.
08:54He got the Texans' exact point total right.
08:5620-17.
08:57The Bucky Brooks had the Texans.
08:58I got, honestly, this is the way.
09:01I got retroactively angry about how many people were choosing the Chiefs just because I felt like it was disrespect to the Texans' defense.
09:10I really didn't know or understand what people were seeing.
09:14And then especially when you factor in the four-and-a-half point spread, the Chiefs were favored by four-and-a-half going into that game.
09:20I thought that that was way too much.
09:23And I didn't expect the Texans' offense to play as badly as they did.
09:27But it's still a testament to how good the Texans' defense is that they won that game 20-10 because that is what the Texans' defense is.
09:39And with the Chiefs having three injured offensive linemen, I honestly couldn't figure out.
09:45Because I don't think any of those people that were making those picks thought that the Texans' offense would struggle as badly as it did.
09:53I don't think they thought that the Texans' offense wouldn't be good.
09:56But you got three backup offensive linemen.
10:01What did you expect?
10:02Right.
10:02What did you expect versus that defense?
10:04Wait, have you guys even been paying attention to the Chiefs this year?
10:07Yeah.
10:08Like, where on earth, other than the logo on the helmet, made you think that the Chiefs' offense was going to be good versus that defense?
10:16If I had to guess, I would guess that there's a significant number of those nine people that the Chiefs have that remember vividly the two games in Kansas City last year and just said,
10:26I'll believe it when I see it.
10:28You know, the Texans haven't won there in forever.
10:31I just saw two games less than a year ago where they lost there.
10:33I'll believe it when I see it.
10:35No, just to be told, the Texans' offense lived up to all of that.
10:40The Texans' offense lived up to, I don't know if these guys are ready for prime time.
10:43I don't know if it's like that.
10:45The Texans' offense was atrocious.
10:46I was excited yesterday because the defense just delivered that win.
10:51But no, it's inexcusable for the offense to go out there.
10:54And basically, they were the exact same team they were last year.
