00:00Everton striker Tino Barry has finally ended a lengthy goal drought in spectacular fashion
00:06during their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, a moment that had been nearly four months in the
00:13making. After 737 minutes of Premier League action without scoring, Barry's maiden top
00:20flight strike three minutes into added time of the first half was greeted with unbridled joy
00:25from teammates, fans and the Everton hierarchy alike. The 23-year-old's weight had been fraught
00:32with frustration. Previous attempts had gone agonisingly wrong, a miss from yards out against
00:38Sunderland, a disallowed strike versus Newcastle and a brilliant save from Jordi Petrovic at
00:43Bournemouth all compounded the pressure. Because I think that every Evertonian has been wanting
00:50them to score but I have to say the crowd have gotten them incredible support and incredible
00:54backing. And, you know, it's amazing what that does to players and sometimes maybe people
00:59don't understand that. That reeling energy which was coming from the crowd for him, whether
01:04he was getting subbed off or whether he was making a good run or done something, gives players
01:09incredible energy and gives them something different. That's why you hear so many managers
01:13talking about, you know, getting the crowd behind the team and getting, no, because they
01:16do make a difference. But I think his goal was great for him because he's earned it with his
01:23work recently. Barry's path to this point has not been linear and a pre-season shoulder
01:29injury, limited English skills and the big need to adapt to Premier League football had
01:34all slowed his integration. Behind the scenes, friendships with French-speaking teammates
01:40and fellow gamers have helped him settle. Moy stressed that this goal was for everyone,
01:46the striker, his teammates and the fans who had patiently supported him through the tough
01:51early months. The hope now is that Barry's breakthrough can act as a catalyst and for
01:58streaks of form when confident, he must continue to perform to maintain his place in the squad
02:03with competition from fellow forwards growing. For now, however, Everton can savour a landmark
02:08moment. The striker, who can score, has finally arrived.
