00:00Alexis, Arianne, oh my God, congratulations on this series. I binged as much as I was allowed to.
00:07Wow. Awesome. I'm glad that you liked it.
00:10I have to say, though, I kept watching and I just kept going, I don't get it. Like,
00:16how does this person actually exist? It wasn't even the con. It was, how is she so confident?
00:22How does she have no fear? I'm constantly in fear of getting caught out. Arianne, as this went on
00:29and on, how did she feel about Anna? There is something about Anna Delvey that is so energetic
00:38and so, you just want to, you know, at one point at the end, Todd says, you know, everyone wanted to be
00:45in the business of Anna Delvey. And I completely understand people like that. There is an
00:50attraction and an energy that makes them so confident. And confidence is one of the sexiest
00:55things out there. And so she exudes it. And it makes sense to me that, you know,
01:00people want to be around her. They want to be in the business of Anna Delvey.
01:04Well, Alexis, how did this affect you? Because you played one of her friends. So when you
01:08are playing this and you are so close to this person, what do you take away from it? Because
01:15it's not like, it is bad, but there's some positives to be taken from her, isn't there?
01:19Oh, for sure. And, you know, Anna was one of the first people to see Neff, my character,
01:26in a way that felt validating and affirming of her gifts as an artist, as being a woman who is
01:32studied of New York City. And, you know, Neff is sort of the keeper of the keys in my mind,
01:39but she rarely gets to use them. And so when Anna says, come to a party with me, it is like a life
01:44changing moment where she is finally able to participate in these experiences that she knows
01:50and curates for guests and others. Finally, she has a rightful place, you know, in the castle.
01:57And that is extraordinarily powerful and affirming. Absolutely.
02:01This is all about faking it and believing in yourself. Like there's a line where she goes,
02:06a vision like mine doesn't come along all the time. Genius is rare. I'm like, I wish we had that
02:12confidence in ourselves. But as actors, you have to sometimes pretend you can do stuff that you can't
02:18do. Arian, what's the biggest lie you told to get apart? To get apart? Wow, that's funny. I remember
02:29when I was younger, there, you know, I'm an Iranian actor, and I could speak Farsi fluently. But
02:34someone's like, well, can you do an Arabic? You know, can you? I was like, I, yeah, yeah, yeah. And they
02:41sent me two pages of text in Arabic, that in the first 10 minutes, I was like, oh, I need to call
02:49and tell them the truth. Like I have no, but you know, you're young, and you want a job. And so
02:54yeah, that's one that I remember. Alexis, what about you? I remember one time going in for a commercial,
03:01and it was for some kind of athletic wear. And the first round, they were like, do you run? And I was
03:06like, I run when I'm late to the train. So sure. And then, you know, it got closer and closer.
03:15And we met outside, and they had us like do a running test in Washington Square Park. And I was
03:20low, I was nervous. Luckily, it was like 45 seconds. Didn't get the job. So they certainly
03:27saw right through, it must have been my form. I must have been, you know.
03:34Anna is all about the VIP experience. She keeps saying, you know, VIP is better. It's always best.
03:41Arianne, in this job, I know that, you know, it's not all VIP, but I'm sure there's been some moments
03:47that you've gone, oh my God, I can't believe I'm getting to access this or seen to this part of
03:53the world. What's been your biggest pinch yourself VIP moment?
03:59Wow. I will say that first table read in LA, when we did the first, I think we may even did two
04:06episodes. I don't remember. But that felt very luxurious and exciting. I felt like the room was
04:14full of unbelievable people and people that were very energized. And Shauna Land's team is so diverse
04:21and giving and caring and they, you know, they care about us. So that was really kind of exciting.
04:26And I just remember the Netflix, you know, the little Netflix touches and you're like, oh, this is
04:31nice. I can get you. What about yourself, Alexis? Yes. Biggest VIP. Actually, that same day after the
04:41table, we all had dinner together. Oh, yeah. And remember that? And, and Shauna actually shut down
04:49the first restaurant that I waited tables in, in Los Angeles. It was like this kismet,
04:55unbelievable moment. And I walked through and, you know, I didn't, I, my manager wasn't there,
05:01but it's the same ownership. And I went to the back and we were, you know, being wined and dined by
05:06the woman of television and, and just in this like very comfortable and it was Italian food and that's
05:11my food girl. So that was it. That was magical.
05:16I love it. That is such a beautiful story, Alexis.
05:19Isn't that wild?
05:21Crazy.
05:22I love it. It's like a full circle moment, isn't it? It's, it's what this, it's what this TV show
05:27is actually all about.
05:29It's true.
05:30Yeah.
05:31Yeah. But Arian, this isn't your first access into the VIP world. You've had it with Succession.
05:36I can't come here and not talk to you about Succession because that is the show that we are all
05:42obsessed with. Even Alexis agrees with me. What's it like getting to be a part of that world?
05:50On honor. I mean, I pinch myself every day. You know, it's, it's, it's a real artist's room as
05:57well. I just want to just say that for the, for the young actors out there, that there is a real
06:02sense of ownership that Jesse Armstrong gives all of us and our characters. And, and he writes
06:08towards us. We get to access, you know, million dollar, you know, $200 million yachts and get to
06:16go all over the world to Croatia and all these places, you know, even the New York city locations,
06:22you're like, wow, I don't know. I didn't think this existed. So yeah, it's a real honor to be
06:27on that show. I, you know, I will just say the last thing I'll say about this is, you know,
06:31when we're shooting season one and we're doing the wedding season, you know, we didn't know if
06:36people were going to even like the show because it was so unique, you know, and, and to be honest,
06:42we didn't even know if people would get what we were doing. Cause there was no like winking at the
06:45audience. Everyone was playing the characters really kind of brutally. And then all of a sudden
06:49here we are. So that just goes to show you, you know, how brilliant Jesse and his writing team is.
06:54Yeah. As is this writing team on Shondaland, final question, Alexis, I don't think this is just
07:01about Anna. I love the social commentary. Like it just shows you that the rich have their own rules.
07:06What did you take from this? It's so true. And, and celebrating the writing again,
07:12there is a sense of humanity in every character. If they have one line, or if, if it's Anna Delvey,
07:20you know, their heart pretty quickly and it's not, and it's, it's, there's an intelligence,
07:25you know, like the audience gets to feel it. You're not told so much, but you feel the humanity
07:32in these stories and, and, and it's all across the spectrum in terms of, you know, the financial,
07:39the range of, uh, of financial spaces that the show takes up is, is almost exponential. I mean,
07:47um, but all of them have hearts and, and that's what I think is such a triumph of this piece in the
07:52writing specifically. Yeah. Well, again, congratulations. And thank you so much for
07:56taking the time out to chat. Thanks, Serena. Thanks for watching.
