00:00Happy birthday. My name is Poo Bear. I'm here with Hollywood Life and we're here to discuss
00:07my new album, The Book of Nabil. It's dropping tonight at midnight everywhere. Favorite human
00:13is out everywhere already. The video is everywhere. And I'm excited to have this conversation.
00:19My motivation behind The Book of Nabil would be just growth, showing growth. I've had a lot of
00:33success. I've written a lot of songs. This project was done with a really dear brother of mine named
00:39Nabil. And these poems, you know, come from his heart and we were able to take them and turn them
00:47in amazing songs. And, you know, in doing so, you know, I just saw so much growth and, you know,
00:54in my voice and my performance and my melodies, you know, I was like, you know what, this is amazing.
01:00Like, we should actually put this out. And, you know, it just shows, you know, it's like a new
01:06template of other music that you can do. Like, everybody kind of gets stuck in these cliche
01:12formats and song structures and The Book of Nabil steps outside of that box. And just doing that,
01:20this project, you know, I was like, you know, I really want the world to hear this stuff. I don't
01:24want this to go to the music abyss. And, you know, even if it doesn't, you know, sell a kazillion
01:31records, I do, you know, me and Nabil felt like it was very important that this music came out
01:36and, you know, that it was, you know, also come out and sets a new bar, a new standard
01:44for the people that do hear it. If they're musicians, they can hear it and they can see
01:49like, hey, there's a whole lot of, there's a whole lot more words and vocabulary that can be
01:56saying, you know, and there's so many different ways that you can, you know, sing, you know,
02:02these records, it really, you know, it's a great template for people to use and to grow.
02:10So on top of, you know, what I've done in my past is great, but, you know, stepping out and being a
02:16singer and putting out the book in the bill, for me, it shows growth, you know, from my, to myself
02:21and myself. And, and hopefully the people that are listening to it, they're inspired and people
02:27that the creatives that listen to it, they're inspired to, you know, take something from it and
02:32you know, add on to it and also evolve it even into more music. So it's very important
02:38to, to keep music out and to put new fresh music out. That's inspiring for the world and
02:44also, you know, very fulfilling for, for myself.
02:47And the significance of the album's title, which is the book of Nabil is these words, these stanzas
03:03come from my, my brother, Nabil's heart. And, you know, it's the first time I've ever written
03:09with a poet in my whole career. Um, I've been writing for 27 years. So, you know, just to be
03:15able to, to use some words, to have, you know, poems that already have an amazing, you know,
03:22structure already have, or even if they don't have a structure, they have amazing stanzas,
03:27they have an amazing concept, which is the main idea, which is the most important part of the song.
03:31And, you know, those came from Nabil's heart. So I came up with the idea to say, Hey, let's just
03:39call it the book in the bill because these poems that I turned into songs came from your heart.
03:44They came from, you know, words from, from the bill, from the bill's heart. So hence the book
03:50in the bill, you know, for me, it, it fit perfectly just because these are from a book of poems from
03:57the bill. So it makes all the sense in the world to call it the book of the bill.
04:01Um, I, once again, on, on this album, I definitely pushed the Sonics forward. I worked on them
04:17with Shindo, you know, amazing producer with Sasha Sirota. Um, and, you know, John, um, John
04:26Mayan actually from, from Paris that worked on some chords and it was all, all just pushing
04:34everything forward after we put down, you know, basic concepts, basic chords saying, what sounds
04:40can we use? What can we use? It hasn't been done before. What can we, what, you know, drums,
04:46what cadences can we tap into that aren't, you know, the most predictable. And, um, so it was
04:53definitely a process of pushing the Sonics forward, reaching outside of the box and coming
04:59up with, you know, which is different everything just so we're not bored personally. So we're not
05:05bored. And at the same time, we, like we said, I, we hope to inspire and to, you know, engage
05:11people with a new product that they can't say, well, I've already got this. I could just
05:16listen to this other project. You can't, you know, and we don't want, I don't want, you
05:20know, we don't want you to be able to compare this album to anything. So in creating it, we
05:24were definitely very intentional about pushing it forward and making sure that, you know,
05:30it's separate from everything else that's out in the world and people can't, you know, get
05:35it confused with other records. So definitely was intended to push the music forward sonically,
05:40and melodically and overall, you know, just create a whole new everything for the world.
05:49I was not always confident as an artist. Um, and my obesity, a lot to me being overweight
05:57and me thinking about what other people were thinking about me and about, you know, what
06:02other people, you know, said or whatever, you know, the comments or opinions on me is
06:07it definitely got me at a place where I enjoy just hiding in the studio and living vicariously
06:14through different artists that will sing, sing the songs and bring up to life. Um, so on,
06:19on my, on my fitness journey, you know, I've always put out music, you know, for, for a while,
06:26you know, but in during the last three, four years, I just noticed my own confidence go up a lot,
06:33just based on, you know, my, my size, being able to wear the clothes that I desire. Um, you know,
06:40being able to be comfortable and not, you know, walking around sweating, being hot all the time,
06:46all that definitely had a lot to do with, you know, building my confidence up to being a singer
06:51and feeling confident that I could go out on any stage around the world and sing my heart out and
06:57know that nobody's going to be, you know, making jokes about my weight. Um, you know,
07:03even make, just making any say, any negative comments, of course, there's going to come with
07:07some negative.
