00:00Ozuna confirms a private video of him going viral was part of an extortion plot.
00:06Plus, one of Ozuna's rivals is now bashing the singer over the footage.
00:13Hey guys, it's Ali for Hollywood Life, and some of you may remember Latin superstar Ozuna from songs like Te Vas or Tu Foto,
00:20or the bigger crossover hits like Takitaki and La Modelo.
00:24Well, he recently confirmed in a public statement that he was the victim of an extortion scam tied to a private video of him that recently went viral.
00:33Billboard reports Ozuna's label and management firm released a statement saying,
00:38Our attorney confirmed yesterday urban artist Ozuna was extorted through an intimate video filmed when he was a minor.
00:45This video was edited with the objective of causing even more harm.
00:48They go on to say during the time of the extortion, they filed a complaint and all legal measures are being taken.
00:55They're also hoping this will, quote, serve as an example and message to all teenagers and adults to protect their privacy and avoid these things so as to avoid such regrettable situations.
01:07Ozuna also issued an apology saying, quote,
01:09Like many young people, I made a mistake fueled by ignorance.
01:13Today, I'm not only sorry for what happened, but I condemn it.
01:16That's why I looked for help and I am certain everything will be cleared.
01:20Likewise, I am following the process and I'm always willing to collaborate with authorities to prevent the evil that resulted from this big mistake.
01:27More importantly, I ask my family for forgiveness.
01:30They are my life's priority and I will continue to fight for them always.
01:33The person supposedly leading the extortion plot hasn't been named in either statement.
01:38However, Rolling Stone reports Ozuna's attorney stated slain trap singer Kevin Frett
01:43apparently claimed to have a compromising video of Ozuna and demanded money to not release it.
01:49Ozuna's attorney claimed the artist paid $50,000 before contacting the FBI, but Ozuna is not a suspect.
01:56Adding to this, Complex reports one of Ozuna's rivals, Don Omar, is now being accused of making homophobic posts about the singer.
02:03In one post, he wrote,
02:05Omar also shared another post of a duck on top of a teddy bear, which seems to be a reference to Ozuna's logo.
02:18Complex reports that users slammed on Omar for these posts, including Bad Bunny, who tweeted,
02:23homophobia in this day and age, how embarrassing.
