00:09Hi!
00:11Hello!
00:12Hi!
00:13Hi!
00:14Hi!
00:16Hi!
00:18Hi!
00:21There!
00:22Hi!
00:24We can!
00:26We're gonna shout out every HBCU in the building tonight, but first,
00:55and foremost, I have to welcome everybody to 106 in Sports, where we are counting down
01:02the top five moments in sports that matter to the culture.
01:05I am Ashley Nicole Moss.
01:07And I'm Cam Newton, and we got a big show today.
01:09We're going to talk to one of the best in his class, the WBA Super Featherweight World Champion,
01:16Lamont Roach Jr., and NFL legend Todd Gurley.
01:20Ooh.
01:20Plus, we got a few special people in the live, this audience, as I mentioned.
01:30We're going to do a little bit of a roll call.
01:32AI Kentucky State, where you at?
01:35Who you at?
01:35K State!
01:36Who you at?
01:37K State!
01:37Who you at?
01:38K State!
01:39Who you at, Ashley?
01:43Listen, with them, clearly, because they lit.
01:47Oh, no.
01:47But it's about to get even littered, because it's Savannah State in the building!
01:51Who you at, Ashley?
02:15Wow!
02:16Wow, but we're not done. We're not done, Kim.
02:22Okay.
02:23We gotta go to this side of the studio real quick because it's Morehouse in the building.
02:46And last, but certainly not least, I got to take it to the group behind me because it's
03:00Clark Atlanta in the building.
03:05Oh, yeah, we gotta Clark Atlanta!
03:26CCCC!
03:31I have to say, Kim, we've done a lot of these shows and we have been blessed with a lot
03:41of different crowds, a lot of different audience members, but I think we can both agree on
03:45one thing.
03:46Okay.
03:47This is the least crowd we've ever had.
03:48Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, for sure.
03:49For sure.
03:50For sure.
03:51It's the passion.
03:52It's the passion.
03:53It's the passion.
03:54It's definitely the passion and when you have chants like this, coming from a person and
03:59I always will say it when I have an opportunity to say it.
04:03I didn't get the opportunity to go to an HBCU.
04:06Huh?
04:07I went to a PWI.
04:09Shh.
04:10No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
04:12Because I come from the cloth of if you graduated, it didn't matter where you graduated from.
04:19You extended your further learning experience.
04:23But when you see the beautiful people of the HBCU, historical black colleges and universities,
04:35it's a little soul that you don't get from my Caucasian constitution.
04:40And that make me a little peanut butter and jealous.
04:46Just a smidge.
04:49Let the church say amen.
04:51So, so, so when I, when I, when I see y'all coming up with the C, C, C, C, A, A, A, A,
04:59U, U, and then Savannah State quotes and chants and all this and the rents.
05:04Ah, I love me some y'all, you dig it up there, for real.
05:11Look, uh, before we get into the countdown and kick off what's going to be an absolutely
05:16amazing show, I can feel it.
05:18Let's take a look at some of our favorite highlights.
05:20This year's Bayou Classic was an absolute banger.
05:23Southern squeaked by Grambling State 2827 at the Caesars Superdome in the national televised
05:30game, continuing a tradition that packs in over 60,000 fans each year.
05:35Plus, Gorilla and Juvenile brought some major star power with their halftime performance,
05:40and it blew up all across social media.
05:43In the NFL, the Bills beat the Steelers 26 to 7, and Josh Allen broke yet another one
05:49of my records that became the NFL all-time leader in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
05:54Later, Denver beat the Commanders in an overtime war.
05:58Traylon Burks stole the show, though, with a ridiculous one-handed catch that's already
06:03being called the Catch of the Year.
06:06And in the NBA, the reigning champions, the OKC Thunder, extended their win streak to 12
06:11in a row and set a historic 20 wins and only one lost record.
06:16The best start in NBA history since the 2016 Golden State War.
06:21Okay, we are going to jump into number five on the countdown.
06:27This week, number five is all about the Benjamins, baby.
06:31Specifically, the NIL versus the NFL.
06:34Does college pay more than the pros?
06:37Well, five college football players are about to find out.
06:40They are currently asking a federal judge to let them play a fifth season of college football
06:46in 2026.
06:47That's one more year than the NCAA currently allows.
06:51If they win, it could rewrite the entire playbook for college athletes and their earning power.
06:57They would be able to earn millions and extend their window.
07:01The entire sports ecosystem, the NCAA, the NFL recruiting media rights could possibly be rewritten.
07:10Okay.
07:11So this sounds like the real question is, is staying amateur the smartest way to make millions?
07:19If it is, what does that mean for the dream of making it to the league?
07:23All right.
07:24Well, Kim, I'm going to pass the baton to you because I feel, passing it.
07:31This is something you know very well about entering into the draft after being in college
07:37and what that system is like.
07:39How do you feel about five-year collegiate athletes?
07:42Man, get y'all ass on.
07:44Like, like, like, like y'all clouding up what's already, y'all already had y'all time.
07:49Y'all already lived y'all life, huh?
07:51Four years is enough.
07:53To be honest with you, if you asked me if I would change something, I would deduct a year.
07:58Wow.
07:59Okay.
08:00Because now we all been to college, obviously.
08:03We go into college thinking that we got time.
08:06You deduct a year, that eliminates everybody from playing too much.
08:11Got a little fire.
08:12Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:13You can go out, but you got to get up.
08:15You go out to get up to still be able to go out.
08:19I done been to school with some folks, man.
08:21I done been to school with a person that had a red shirt.
08:24Uh-huh.
08:25A medical red shirt.
08:26Oh.
08:27A gray shirt.
08:28So I'm like, bro, you really like 23 years old, bro?
08:32Mm-hmm.
08:33I'm just 19.
08:34You feel what I'm saying?
08:35Mm-hmm.
08:36And you still got more years of eligibility?
08:38You got a whole wife and kid at home.
08:40And y'all trying to extendo that?
08:43No, no, no, no, no.
08:44See, what's not gonna happen is you gonna be one of them old brothers
08:49knocking on the new brothers that's coming in.
08:52It's like old school, the movie.
08:53It's all right.
08:54But go on again.
08:55Go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
08:56Go on.
08:57And you know what I'm saying?
08:58Get on out the way.
08:59Because that's what I feel.
09:01Now, I ain't knocking somebody who's got some unforeseen issues that happen.
09:04You get hurt, okay, you get it, you know, an additional year.
09:07It's just your circumstance ain't been ideal for you.
09:11Mm-hmm.
09:12But you're trying to go back to the bank and you already had opportunities to make money.
09:17Come on now, bro.
09:19Come on, son.
09:20Gonna get your bag and get the hell on.
09:24Cause, like, for real.
09:26Like, knowing what I know, it's not something that I just want to marvel after.
09:31Like, yo, bro, like, keep getting to that bag.
09:33And let's just go on and state the obvious here.
09:36Uh-oh.
09:37There's no such thing as amateur sports anymore.
09:40It's high school and you can make money in high school with NIL in most states.
09:46And you go straight to making a career earnings worth of money.
09:51Mm-hmm.
09:52Now, some of these NIL deals is a little handsome.
09:55And a little, little, little strong.
09:56A little is an understatement.
09:57Yes.
09:58So, therefore, why would I allow, or why would I think it would be a good idea for somebody
10:03to keep stringing that on out?
10:05You know what I'm saying?
10:06Get your bag, do right by that bag, and get the hell on.
10:11All right.
10:12Well, listen, we have more 106 on the way.
10:15We're talking to WBA featherweight champ Lamar Roach Jr. and NFL legend Todd Gurley.
10:22To see who's up next in the world of sports, go to BET.com for our next up series presented
10:28by Jeep Grand Cherokee.
10:30Hello, everybody, and welcome back to 106 in Sports, where culture meets the game.
10:44We are very excited for our next guest, former Offensive Player of the Year, three-time Pro
10:49Bowler, and one of the most dominant running backs to ever do it.
10:53Absolutely.
10:54106, make some noise for Todd Gurley.
11:02Hey, listen, I told you I got a banger.
11:04Uh-oh.
11:05Ashley, you ready for this one?
11:06I am not, but here we go.
11:07Well, you better be.
11:09I met my lady at his house.
11:13Wow!
11:14Todd, did you see the sparks between Jazz and Cam back then?
11:18Did you always know?
11:19Impossible.
11:20This is new for me.
11:21Honestly, I had no idea.
11:23No, for sure.
11:24No, but it was during that time, and it was like, it was one of those situations where
11:28life just lifed.
11:30But, T.T., man, hey, bro, what you got going on these days, man?
11:33I'm out here in L.A., so there's always something going on.
11:36Dodgers just got done winning the World Series.
11:38Yeah.
11:39Got basketball coming.
11:40Getting ready for the holiday times.
11:42I'm glad you mentioned L.A., because we got to talk about the current Rams quarterback,
11:47Matthew Stafford, who is having an absolutely phenomenal season.
11:51Obviously, the MVP front runner.
11:54A lot of conversations about him, and somebody else we'll get to in just a second.
11:58But what are you seeing from him, and what are you loving that you're seeing from him?
12:03I think most importantly for Stafford, he's not turning the ball over.
12:06I don't think he's turning the ball over within, like, the last five, six games.
12:10Yeah.
12:11So, he's definitely probably number two at the MVP conversation.
12:14You know who I got number one.
12:15Who's number one?
12:16You know who I'm number four.
12:17Tell us.
12:18You know I got to go Jonathan Taylor.
12:19Okay.
12:20Even though Stafford is a bulldog, I always ride my bulldogs, but I'm always riding my
12:25running backs.
12:26Let me just share a wholesome moment about, you know, me always having a love and desire
12:31about HBCUs.
12:32Everybody in my family went to an HBCU, right?
12:35But I went to a PWI.
12:37The same goes for Todd Gurley.
12:39Could you tell us about your roots from North Carolina, and what team that you're very fond
12:44over?
12:45There we go.
12:46There we go.
12:47Yeah, my brother and my sister, they both graduated from North Carolina Central.
12:52So, I'm an Eagle at heart, you know, honorary Eagle member.
12:55I always thought about it.
12:56You know, I didn't finish up at Georgia.
12:57But I was like, man, you know what?
12:58I might really keep it in the family, to be honest, if I was to go back and just keep
13:02that tradition in the family on the HBCU route and do central, follow the fan route.
13:06Yeah.
13:07I want to ask you, because you mentioned Jonathan Taylor, and he's having an absolutely incredible
13:12season.
13:13They're saying best running back in the NFL currently.
13:16And as we know, when you talk about the MVP award, the last running back to win it was
13:20Adrian Peterson in 2012.
13:22Yep.
13:23It has historically been a quarterback award, and I put that in quotes because it's not
13:28by name a quarterback award, but by people who have received it, it seems to be a quarterback
13:34award.
13:35Do you think that Jonathan Taylor can break that pattern this season?
13:38In all reality, we realistically know it's definitely a quarterback award, and rightfully so.
13:43Those guys, they really do deserve it.
13:45That's the hardest position on the field by far.
13:48But what Jonathan Taylor is doing with the Colts, obviously, you know, addition of Mack Jones
13:53coming over from the Giants, I think he can get it.
13:56I really do.
13:57What AP did was different.
13:59Yeah.
14:00Coming off the ACL the prior year, but I just don't know.
14:05I just don't know.
14:06I don't know.
14:07Mr. MVP could tell you a lot better than I could.
14:09Mr. MVP could tell us.
14:11I'm just an offensive player.
14:13Hey, listen though.
14:14Hey, I want to give you your flowers, bro, because a lot of times people forget what was
14:19done before them.
14:20How do you look at the game now from the lens that you're looking through being a former
14:26player as well as playing it at a high level?
14:29As far as their emotions is not there because I'm not playing anymore.
14:33But far as a fan aspect, I love it.
14:36I love seeing the young guys.
14:38Which one of the running backs you admire watching the most?
14:42Ooh.
14:43Obviously, Jonathan Taylor right now.
14:45That's that's a no brainer.
14:47Baquan, what he did last year.
14:50And little guy, Bucky Urban.
14:52Bucky Urban, man.
14:53I like him from the Bucks as well.
14:55The running back position has seen a lot of ups and downs in the NFL, right?
14:59Some people say it has completely changed the level of, I guess, importance or the importance
15:06when it comes to getting paid.
15:08The value.
15:09The value, rather.
15:10There you go.
15:11That's the word I'm looking for.
15:12How have you seen that change and where do you think it is currently today in the NFL?
15:15Do you think it has gotten better than years prior?
15:18I don't think it's gotten better, to be honest with you.
15:21I think guys just kind of accepted the fact that we are over just kind of just begging
15:26for money for real that people rightfully deserve.
15:29But honestly, at the end of the day, I really think you just got to be comfortable with a
15:33number.
15:34Whether, you know, it's a $5 million difference.
15:36Just kind of be comfortable.
15:38Say I can feed my family with this.
15:40I'm happy.
15:41And let's move on.
15:42Because a lot of times, they'll try to trick you out of that position.
15:46And we've seen that with other running backs not being able to get that money.
15:49So you kind of got to take what you can get.
15:51And hopefully you were able to renegotiate in a couple of years.
15:56Hey, so peep this.
15:57Okay.
15:58I think the NFL should move to this specific plan.
16:03Give the top tier money to the top tier guy, no matter the position.
16:09So it takes the power out of, hey, the quarterback market is extremely high.
16:14Well, the quarterback for a specific team may not be asked to do as much as a quarterback
16:19on another team.
16:20The same for a running back on a certain team.
16:23You should have a market value of, like, yo, if our top guy makes X amount of dollars,
16:29no matter what position he is, he could be a tackle, he could be a receiver, he could be a running back,
16:33he could be a quarterback.
16:34Give that individual the money rather than it always being a quarterback making the top tier of the money.
16:40You heard it from the quarterback himself.
16:42Everybody make some noise for Todd Gurley.
16:45We're going to dive back into our countdown and we're coming in at number four.
16:53And it's all about who owns Christmas, not who stole Christmas.
16:57The NFL has gotten into the Christmas Day bag and they have massive numbers that show they are here to stay.
17:06Last year's Christmas games average, get ready for this Cam, 26 million viewers.
17:11But the NBA has held on to that day for as long as I can remember.
17:15It's their long running holiday tradition and their Christmas Day slate jumped big too,
17:20averaging about 5 million viewers per game, up more than 80% from the year before.
17:26But 26 million and 5 million.
17:29That's a little bit of a difference, Cam.
17:32A big difference.
17:33So the question is, is the NBA actually making the real push to reclaim Christmas as their day?
17:40Or does the NFL still run the holiday anytime they decide to show up?
17:45Let's talk about it.
17:47Okay Cam, you know the NBA is near and dear to my heart.
17:50Why does the NFL need to infiltrate what has always belonged to us?
17:55And that is Christmas Day.
17:56You guys can't have everything.
17:58You got Thanksgiving, now you got Black Friday.
18:00I'ma tell you.
18:01College has New Year's Eve, New Year's Day.
18:03I'ma tell you.
18:04Let us have one holiday.
18:05Uh uh.
18:06We can't do that, son.
18:07Because how that money being made now?
18:10Folks is getting to the bag.
18:12The owners been getting to the bag for a long time.
18:14We just want a piece of that pie.
18:16You understand what I'm saying?
18:17I mean, the NFL is so dominating the NBA on a day that used to book long times.
18:24Hold on, slow down.
18:25I couldn't hear you.
18:26I got nothing.
18:27I can't say that part one more time.
18:28They're dominating a day that used to belong.
18:30They have Beyonce last year.
18:32The NBA can't compete with Beyonce.
18:34No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
18:36Can the NBA afford Beyonce?
18:39Okay, don't do that now.
18:40You're gonna come out and not only steal a day that belonged to my beloved NBA.
18:46And it was a whole day of basketball.
18:48And my mom would constantly be yelling at me and my dad.
18:50We're watching basketball again.
18:51It's Christmas.
18:52Put the Grinch on.
18:53We're like, nope, we can't.
18:54The Lakers are playing the Celtics.
18:56We gotta lock in.
18:57And now all of a sudden, the NFL got Beyonce.
19:00Yeah.
19:01Can't compete with Beyonce.
19:02That's what I'm trying to tell y'all.
19:03Y'all stay in y'all lane until we get mad.
19:05You dig what I'm saying?
19:06The countdown continues when we get back.
19:09Plus, WBA champion Lamont Roach Jr. is pulling up.
19:13And he's ready to talk about his next big part.
19:26Welcome back, everybody, to 106 in Sports, where culture meets the game.
19:30We have a studio filled of HBCUs.
19:34Matter of fact, do a roll call.
19:36Let's do a roll call.
19:37Is Morehouse in the building?
19:41They sleep.
19:42They sleep?
19:43They sleep.
19:44They sleep.
19:45Okay, what about you?
19:46Who you got?
19:47Savannah State is in the building.
19:53Okay, a little bit better.
19:55Clark Atlanta's in the building.
19:57I don't know.
19:58I don't know.
19:59I don't see it.
20:00I don't know.
20:01Okay.
20:02What about Kentucky State in the building?
20:04Okay.
20:05All three of y'all.
20:06I hear y'all.
20:07All right.
20:08We are still counting down the topics that matter to the culture.
20:11And coming in at number three, we want to take some time to celebrate someone who lives in the intersection of sports and culture.
20:19And that is Snoop.
20:20D-O double G.
20:21Absolutely.
20:22This isn't just an anniversary.
20:23It's 20 year milestone of real impact.
20:26The Snoop Youth Football League has helped shape the next generation of NFL stars and community leaders.
20:40It is proof that success means bringing others up with you.
20:44Absolutely.
20:45I'm so proud to have met and to know a guy like Snoop Dogg and to see the impact that he really does have.
20:54And this is what I would say.
20:56It's more than just money.
20:58It's more than just an appearance where you just show up behind by you just take a picture.
21:03Coming from a person that's really put in time, energy, effort and resources to the next generation.
21:09There are certain people that does not want the credit.
21:13I just literally want to see Little Mamet, Little Pookie, Little Junior and Them, Meatball.
21:20All of them have an opportunity because I know the impact of what football has done in my life.
21:26Right?
21:27I wouldn't be here without football.
21:30If you're in the youth dynamic, your son ain't about to get an offer today.
21:36So you might as well tap in with your daughter, with your son and ask this question first before any statistics.
21:42Are you having fun?
21:44Because if you're not having fun, it doesn't matter what you expect from your son or your daughter because it's all signs of burnout.
21:51If your son and daughter is performing at a high level and they're having fun, that's a win-win that has long impact and that's what you want.
22:00Absolutely.
22:01Listen, keep clapping guys because are you ready for our next guest?
22:05Yes.
22:06Yes.
22:07We got the WBA super featherweight world champion, one of the sharpest, cleanest boxers on the scene.
22:14He has been climbing his way into every conversation about who exactly runs the division.
22:20DMV stand up, your champion's here.
22:23Give it up for Lamont Rose Jr.
22:25Woo!
22:26Woo!
22:27Woo!
22:28Woo!
22:29Woo!
22:30Woo!
22:31My boy!
22:32What's up, man?
22:33How you thinking, bro?
22:34You straight?
22:35I'm really, man.
22:36We're working, man.
22:37You know.
22:38Absolutely.
22:39Hey, listen, let's slide it off like this, man.
22:40I think you shook up the world in one of the fights of the year that we look back and say, like,
22:46yo, we were not expecting that.
22:50As you get prepared for the next fight, what are some of the things that you keep in mind
22:55of what you need to show the world that that wasn't a quote unquote fluke?
23:01Man, I just need to continue being myself.
23:04Like you said, a lot of people wouldn't expect that from me.
23:07Just off the simple fact that my last opponent had all the notoriety in the world.
23:12And on top of that, he was a world caliber fighter.
23:14You know, I just ain't had the same eyes on me as he did.
23:17But I just got to keep doing me.
23:19Keep the same confidence level.
23:21Know that I'm a bad move for Wendy.
23:23Ooh.
23:24Okay.
23:25Look, you're going up in a weight class.
23:27What do you think or what should fans expect to see from this new version of you?
23:33Same as last time.
23:35You know, I'm going to show up and show out.
23:37I moved up a weight class in my last fight as well.
23:40Obviously, I wasn't the smaller guy.
23:42I think probably will be like, you know, similar case.
23:46So Lamont, I'm going to ask you this.
23:48How far away are you becoming the undisputed champion or the undisputed pound for pound best boxer in the world?
23:58Ooh.
23:59I'm on my way.
24:00I ain't gonna lie.
24:01I'm on my way.
24:02What I set out to do and my plans in boxing, like my goals, I plan to fight the best fights possible.
24:09That's why I'm taking on Pitbull at a number weight class for an interim world championship so they can line me up for a world champion at 140.
24:18Or possibly, if we're busy, we can go down to the likes of, you know, the Shakurs, the other guys that are champions.
24:25T.O. T.O. and Shakurs were the fighters, though.
24:28The winner of that fight.
24:29You know what I'm saying?
24:30Stuff like that.
24:31That's where I'm going, to be considered pound for pound one of the best.
24:36Where do you fall in influencers infiltrating boxing?
24:40It's like a love-hate with that.
24:42You know, I've been doing this my whole life.
24:45And it took me this long to get to this point in this stage where I'm a notable guy in the sport and I'm getting paid, you know what I'm saying, quite well.
24:57So, for influencers to come here, know experience, know nothing, and just come get a bag, it's just like, it's crazy.
25:05Because we've been doing this since we were kids.
25:07So, and amateurs, you don't get paid, you know, you don't get none of that.
25:13And when you turn pro, it depends on what your status is, what social following you have and all that, for people to actually look at you.
25:21So, as you get prepared for this fight coming up, what's been your sparring strategy?
25:25What's been your training strategy?
25:26Have you added certain personnel?
25:29Have you done anything different?
25:31Or you just stayed to the same routines that you've been doing up until this point?
25:35You know, we added a few things in our regimen.
25:40We always work hard, for sure.
25:42But, you know, our spawn partners are tough and gritty and they crack like pit bulls.
25:51So, you know, we've just been working.
25:54Our game plan is to tax that all night.
25:57All night.
25:58Yeah.
25:59Well, I know I speak for both Cam and myself when we say we wish you a successful fight, but also a healthy fight.
26:06Absolutely.
26:07Everybody make some noise for the DMV's very own Lamont Roach Jr.
26:12And look, don't miss Lamont Roach versus Isaac Pitbull Cruz this week, December 6, 2025, for the interim WBC super lightweight title.
26:24And more 106 on the way.
26:27Stay right where you at.
26:28You dig what I'm saying?
26:29You dig what I'm saying?
26:50Welcome back, everybody, to 106 in Sports.
26:54Before we get into the countdown again, I gotta say, I'm feeling this side of the room.
27:01I'm feeling that side of the room.
27:03I'm feeling this side of the room.
27:05But I feel like over here, we gotta give this side of the room some love.
27:10Hi, fellas.
27:12Hello, hello.
27:15We're gonna keep the countdown moving with the number two topic.
27:19And it's all about Method Man because he popped up at the New York Jets game, not on the Jumbotron, not courtside.
27:27He was working as a credentialed photographer.
27:31And this moment is actually part of a bigger conversation about celebrities showcasing other talents and other creative sides.
27:40Um, Cam.
27:41Yes?
27:42You know a thing or two about that.
27:43Yeah, I'm known to go on a side quest.
27:45I think this is extremely dope because as a football player specifically, we are masked athletes.
27:57We heard what some would say, shut up and...
28:02Dribble.
28:03There's so much more behind the mask.
28:05There's so much more behind the sneakers.
28:07There's so much more behind the racket.
28:09And anytime you see an individual like Method Man, a person who's been rapping and obviously a movie star or, you know, an actor, to see him in this type of dynamic is something that is extremely impactful.
28:24We've seen individuals like Marshawn Lynch.
28:26We've seen individuals like Kevin Durant.
28:29We've seen individuals like Ken Griffey Jr. really to showcase, you know, their passion for content.
28:36So.
28:37Okay.
28:38Well, since we have all of this HBCU school spirit here, we want to play a game.
28:45Let's head over to the game zone.
28:47Ken, I'm gonna meet you over here.
28:49All right.
28:50So throughout the course of the season, we've had a lot of interesting moments.
28:56Some might even call them meme worthy, Cam.
28:59Right now, we want to revisit some of those moments.
29:02So each school will have 15 seconds to create a caption.
29:05The audience will go ahead and choose the funniest using applause.
29:10The loudest reaction will win.
29:12Everybody got that?
29:13Everyone know the rules?
29:14All right.
29:15So let's meet our contestants.
29:17First up, from Savannah State, we have Ebony, Alexander, and Kat.
29:22Hello, hello.
29:23Hello.
29:24Hi.
29:25From Morehouse, we have Ryan, Derek, and Steven.
29:30Hello, hello.
29:31All right.
29:32We got the support.
29:33We got the support.
29:34And last but not least, from Kentucky State, we have Sasha, Shawn, and Shamarla.
29:42We love it.
29:44So let's get this thing rolling.
29:46The first image is going to be right here on the screen.
29:49You have 15 seconds.
29:50Are you ready?
29:51Set, go.
29:52Kim?
29:53Oh, yeah.
29:54Uh-huh.
29:55Yeah.
29:56Okay.
29:57That's a move right there.
29:58You're sitting back on that.
29:59Oh, wow.
30:00Five, four, three, two, and one.
30:01That is time.
30:02Hands are down.
30:03All right.
30:04So first up, Savannah State, let's see what you came up with.
30:06When everybody is showing Greek love.
30:07Hey.
30:08Oh.
30:09Okay.
30:10Okay.
30:11Okay.
30:12All right.
30:13All right.
30:14I understand that.
30:15Morehouse, what you got brothers?
30:16We got POV, the two man is in motion.
30:18Hey.
30:19Hey.
30:20Hey.
30:21Hey.
30:22Hey.
30:23Hey.
30:24Hey.
30:25Hey.
30:26Hey.
30:27Hey.
30:28Hey.
30:29Hey.
30:30Hey.
30:31Hey.
30:32Hey.
30:33Hey.
30:34Hey.
30:35Hey.
30:36Hey.
30:37Hey.
30:38Hey.
30:39Hey.
30:40Hey.
30:41Hey.
30:42That's a different type of appreciation.
30:43Wow.
30:44Huh?
30:45Wild boys.
30:46All right.
30:47And last but not least, my team over here.
30:49Let's make some noise.
30:50What do you guys got?
30:51Bounce that thing like your friend do.
30:54Oh my God.
30:57Look at Cam.
30:58He like, ah.
31:00Okay.
31:01So after seeing each of these answers, pick your favorite.
31:06We got Morehouse.
31:08We got a Savannah state.
31:13And we got Kentucky state.
31:18All right.
31:20Round one, Cam.
31:23Morehouse.
31:24Round one goes to Morehouse.
31:26For sure.
31:27For sure.
31:28All right.
31:29There's still time for redemption.
31:31All right, um, all right, there's still, there's still time for redemption, don't worry.
31:39Round two, the second image is on the screen.
31:42Let's take a look.
31:43Okay.
31:45All right, now you have 15 seconds.
31:48Ready, set, go.
31:52I don't even know when we took this.
31:54No, the real question is, what the hell is going through your brain, Sam?
31:58Probably something you said or did.
32:00No, no, four, three, two, and one, pens down.
32:06All right, Savannah State, let's see what you got here.
32:09Would you choose anything besides an HBCU?
32:14Ooh.
32:16Shots fired.
32:18Ouch.
32:19Kentucky State, what we got, brothers and sisters?
32:23What is Cam wearing?
32:26What is Cam wearing?
32:28It's looking like, okay, it's impressive, so I'll see what you went with that.
32:33And Morehouse, what do you got for us?
32:36We got POV, when someone from Clark says they run the AUC.
32:40Yep.
32:40Savannah State, all right, Kentucky State, I don't think they got enough to fight in this one.
33:01What about Morehouse in the...
33:07Morehouse?
33:08I'm going to go with Savannah State right there.
33:10Savannah State, yeah.
33:11Savannah State, yeah.
33:11Okay.
33:12I heard some booze in there, the booze, the booze.
33:14Okay, well, we have ourselves a tie, which means it's going to come down to our last image.
33:20And that image is going to be right here on the screen once again.
33:23Oh, there we go.
33:24All right.
33:2515 seconds on the clock.
33:26Starting.
33:27Ready, set, go.
33:32Oh, my goodness.
33:33Get your head out the gutter.
33:34Five, four, three, two, one.
33:45All righty, then.
33:46I'm going to go with Kentucky State first.
33:49Hey, our big hat wanted you to do it.
33:53Oh, my God.
33:55All right.
33:56Okay.
33:57We're going to go with Morehouse right here.
34:00I'm going to go with POV.
34:02I'm going to go with POV when you farting and you don't think nobody heard it.
34:06Right.
34:07And last but not least, Savannah State.
34:09Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop.
34:17All right.
34:18We're going to take it to the vote.
34:21All right.
34:22Make some noise if you like what Kentucky State put down.
34:26They loyal.
34:29Make some noise if you like what Morehouse put down.
34:31And make some noise if you like what Savannah State put down.
34:38Savannah State is the winner.
34:44Shout out to Savannah State for winning the Mean Madness Challenge.
34:50You will receive a special 106 in Sports prize package.
34:57Stay tuned into 106 in Sports and check out the new music video Big Guy by iSpice, part of the new Spongebob movie, only in theaters this Christmas.
35:05Welcome back everybody to 106 in Sports. We are finally down to our number one topic of the week.
35:20Now, hold on real quick.
35:22Oh no.
35:23I don't think we really acknowledge this moment.
35:27Okay.
35:28But I'm proud of you, man.
35:30Why's that?
35:31This is the season finale. You dig what I'm saying?
35:34This is the season finale.
35:35I appreciate you, man.
35:37Yes.
35:38And I appreciate every single person who has filled this studio each and every week.
35:47And we hope that you guys have loved the show as much as we have loved making it.
35:53It has been an incredible ride, which kind of leads us into a theme in sports this year.
36:01And that is all about leveling up.
36:04So tonight we are celebrating the people writing the next chapter of their story.
36:08Because the question this year hasn't been, can they?
36:11It's how far can they go now?
36:14Let's shout out SGA for not only winning MVP, winning a championship.
36:18Yeah.
36:19We also have to shout out Angel Reese, who is getting buckets on and off the court.
36:24For sure.
36:25Victoria's Secret model, apparel, Reebok, and not to mention what she's doing on the court as well.
36:31Absolutely.
36:32Well, you got a guy like Costanette and especially like an individual like Drewski,
36:36individuals that are reshaping how we consume content.
36:40What Drewski has been able to do, he's not the typical stand-up comedian,
36:45but what he's doing is really creating a buzz that we didn't even know that we needed.
36:51Right.
36:52I also want to give a shout out to Tiana Taylor.
36:54Yeah.
36:55Yes.
36:56Yeah.
36:57Not only did she drop a new album and she's got a new man,
37:01but she's in movies with Leonardo DiCaprio and getting Oscar buzz.
37:05So she has shown that there is never a time that you can't reinvent yourself and do it all over again.
37:12Shawty is what we call she got depth.
37:14Mm.
37:15Being a mother, having the skill set that she has from set design, creative directing.
37:23Yeah.
37:24She's making her mark fail, especially in this industry.
37:27Um, my last person for the year of the Level Up would be Mr. Cam Newton.
37:32Because Cam has really taken life after football, grabbed it by the horns, and has just run with it.
37:42What he's doing on First Take.
37:44Mm.
37:45What he's doing on Funky Fridays.
37:47Mm.
37:48What he's doing on Fourth and One.
37:49Mm.
37:50What he's doing in the city of Atlanta when it comes, I don't know if you've been to Fellowship, but you should be.
37:54Um, and also what he has done right here on 106 in Sports.
37:58As someone who has seen you work from afar, it has been a huge privilege for me to share this stage with you and to see your growth in the media space.
38:07So mine would be for you.
38:09Oh, man.
38:11Listen, with that being said, while I got you guys' attention, bro, it takes nothing to pick up a camera.
38:18You now, by doing so, have become a content creator.
38:22If you have a smartphone, we always hear it.
38:26Don't be a dummy with a smartphone.
38:28It's so much that your phone can offer you, and it can offer you opportunity.
38:33Content pays, and content is king.
38:36So there's so many different stories that could be told even with this experience that we've seen.
38:41You could do this as well, sitting in those seats and sitting at home.
38:45Like the Ka's, like the Drewskis.
38:47They started with an idea.
38:49But an idea is just an idea until you put some energy into it.
38:54Absolutely.
38:55Absolutely.
38:56I want everybody in the audience to get up on their feet, because that is it for now.
39:01Thank you for rocking with us all season long.
39:05Make sure you hit us out using that hashtag, 106 and scores.
39:10Cam, this is our season finale.
39:13This is going to be the last time this season.
39:16You give us the final word.
39:17Make it a good one.
39:18Man, listen.
39:19Repeat after me.
39:20Repeat after me.
39:21We.
39:22We.
39:23Are.
39:24Are.
39:25The.
39:26The.
39:27Culture.
39:28Culture.
39:29We.
39:30We.
39:31Are.
39:32The.
39:33The.
39:34Culture.
39:35We're going to say, one love?
39:36When I say, All together, we're going to say one love, one handout, one finger, one pinky,
39:40one thumb, all together, one love.
39:42This is 106 and Sports.
39:45Appreciate you.
