00:00Look a lot like Christmas, but not nearly enough for my liking.
00:05I am totally Little Miss Christmas.
00:08I'm Sarah Davies and crafting is my passion, especially at Christmas.
00:13That looks right.
00:14Thank you, Mama Craft.
00:15Lovely.
00:17So I'm on a mission to spread a bit of homemade festive magic.
00:21One, two, three.
00:26Each week I'll be joined by two celebrity crafters,
00:30going head-to-head to make the best decorations.
00:36Oh, it's a contest.
00:38Oh, that is fabulous.
00:41I mean, I'm supposed to pick a winner, aren't I?
00:43Together, we'll be sprucing up our trees.
00:46Utter perfection.
00:47I think I've gone a bit rogue.
00:49Yes.
00:51And sparkling up our centerpieces.
00:53Nice little golden pipe.
00:55Wow.
00:55I've just seen how much you've got.
00:58It was a really bad idea.
01:00So grab your glue guns and let's get Christmas crafting.
01:13Let the festive fun begin.
01:19What do you think?
01:22It's like the place, isn't it?
01:23I think so.
01:24You don't want to get done for breaking and entering.
01:27I've rested on our first date.
01:28Exactly.
01:29That's before a sherry.
01:32Today, I'm joined by actor, podcaster and comedy matriarch,
01:36Hilary Whitehall,
01:37and Corrie legend, Tony Maudsley,
01:41ready to try their hands at some Christmas creativity.
01:44I love a bit of crafting.
01:44Is this up your street?
01:45Yeah.
01:46I have to say that I feel I'm slightly more in the gifted amateur.
01:50I'm excited, actually, because I love a bit of crafting.
01:53I won't say I'm an expert.
01:55When my son, Jack, did art projects at school,
01:58I did get involved.
02:00No teacher actually ever said,
02:02well done, Mrs Whitehall,
02:03but I know they thought it.
02:05Well, that's ten steps ahead of me.
02:08I think the last time I made something,
02:09I must have been about five,
02:10and I made a mess of it then.
02:11I'm excited, but I'm also nervous,
02:13because I don't want to make a mess of things.
02:15Who knows how I'm going to fare today?
02:17Fingers crossed.
02:18I'm going to let you do the honour.
02:19Oh, thank you.
02:23Hello!
02:25Lovely.
02:26I know I'm not in the mood for Christmas at all.
02:31That's how Christmassy I'm feeling.
02:34Oh, sparkling.
02:37Are you excited?
02:38Yeah.
02:38I'm excited.
02:39Yeah, let's do it.
02:45Everything my celebrity guests make over the next few weeks
02:48is to transform this beautiful house
02:50into a magical Christmas party venue
02:53for some very deserving people.
02:55So let's crack on.
02:57So are you excited?
02:58Very excited.
02:59Yes?
03:00Yes.
03:00So have you done much crafting before?
03:02A fair bit with the children,
03:04and then there was a big break,
03:05and now I've got grandchildren.
03:06So I'm needing to hone these skills up now.
03:08Right, I can work on that, I can work on that.
03:10Yeah.
03:10How about you, Tony?
03:11Big crafter?
03:12I think probably the last time I crafted was two years ago.
03:16I decided to make my own front door wreath.
03:17Oh, wow.
03:19Yeah?
03:19Tony.
03:19I mean, it started off this big,
03:21and it finished off this big.
03:22You nearly pulled the front door off its hinges.
03:24Oh, a more is more kind of guy.
03:26Yeah, yeah.
03:26I'm going after my own partner.
03:27I hope you can teach me some refinement today.
03:29Right, OK, so we're going to do some Christmas stars.
03:33Right.
03:33Two, three, four, five.
03:34You need five straws for this.
03:37However big you want your star
03:38is how big we're going to cut these down to.
03:40He's definitely going to want a big one,
03:42because we already know he goes large.
03:43I'm going to be keeping a close eye on you both
03:46over the course of the day to see who does the best.
03:48We're in competition here, Hilary.
03:51Allegedly, I'm a bad loser.
03:53Choose your weapon.
03:56You two look dangerous with those glue guns.
03:58So, I'm going to go, I think, about half the size here.
04:02OK.
04:03So, and all you're going to do
04:04is you're going to cut all five of your straws down.
04:07OK.
04:08There we go.
04:08OK, a little bit of twine, everyone, yeah?
04:11This will be a brilliant one you could do
04:13with the grandkids, Hilary.
04:15Right.
04:15What we're going to do, then,
04:16is you're just going to thread your twine
04:18through your straws.
04:20As lick important.
04:21Oh, yes.
04:22Very, very essential.
04:23We're putting all of them through.
04:25You're going to thread all five of these...
04:28Onto a chain.
04:29Yes.
04:30You know what's happening here?
04:31What's happening here?
04:33Remember when you were five years old
04:34and you would be concentrating at school
04:35and your tongue would go...
04:36I've just noticed myself doing it.
04:38I was like, I'm...
04:39Right.
04:42So, once you've got your little necklace of paper straws,
04:46all we're going to do is tie them together at the top.
04:49We're going to just pull them tight.
04:51Right.
04:52Once we get to there,
04:53you just take any two of them together.
04:55Yeah.
04:55And once you've got the two together,
04:56just twist them.
04:57Yeah.
04:58And once they're twisted,
04:59it goes underneath at the top.
05:01Yeah.
05:02And once it's underneath,
05:03you could untwist the twist.
05:07Oh, yeah.
05:07Got it.
05:08Got it.
05:08I'm back to where I started.
05:10Did that happen?
05:11Yeah.
05:11You do that again, so...
05:12Twist two of them together.
05:13I had a bit of a problem with the paper straws.
05:15It's my fat fingers, you see.
05:17They're just...
05:18I mean, Hillary was, like, in and out,
05:19and then she whipped up her star.
05:21Help, Hillary.
05:22Twist.
05:22Yeah.
05:23Then up underneath.
05:25Yeah.
05:25And then you just pull them apart.
05:27Pull them at the bottom.
05:28That's pulling the wrong one apart.
05:29Oh, yes.
05:30Love it.
05:31That looks good.
05:32Thank you for your help.
05:33Yes?
05:34That is so simple.
05:35Hillary's nailed that.
05:36I've done two now.
05:38I'm on a roll.
05:39I'm on a roll.
05:39She's on a roll.
05:40She is on a roll.
05:41Well, these will look great on the Christmas tree,
05:44won't they?
05:44Definitely.
05:45Okay, the killer question.
05:47Go on.
05:47When is it acceptable to get the tree up?
05:496th of November.
05:516th of November?
05:516th of November?
05:53Get bonfire nuts up the way first.
05:54And then it starts to feel Christmas, doesn't it?
05:56I don't want it just there for two weeks.
05:57I want it there for two months.
05:59I want to enjoy it once it's done, so...
06:01I'm mad after my own heart.
06:02Yeah.
06:03I love the Christmas day.
06:04How about in your house?
06:05Michael Whitehall, if he had his way,
06:07would have it up on Christmas Eve and down by Boxing Night.
06:10No.
06:10Yes.
06:11We have an argument every year about it.
06:13And I usually win, actually.
06:14It's up for much longer than he would like.
06:16So the tree that I bought, the light's built in.
06:20I love a coloured light.
06:22Michael likes white.
06:23And every time I walk past, I put it onto multicoloured flashing.
06:26And every time he walks past, he puts it onto white static.
06:31So you know who's been through the room last.
06:35Can we take a moment to notice?
06:36Hello.
06:37Oh, look for you.
06:38On your own.
06:38Oh, yes, no.
06:39We've got three now.
06:40Oh, you two are so cute.
06:42It's only mozzy stuff.
06:43Yes.
06:43There you go.
06:55Well, now we've covered level one star making.
06:59Yes.
06:59I want you to make a five-point star with five sticks.
07:05Five sticks for you, sir.
07:06One, two, three, four.
07:07Five sticks for you, lovely.
07:09All you're going to do is basically replicate this.
07:13And then once we've got the star made, we're going to use the glue gun.
07:16OK.
07:17To just hold that star in place.
07:20Now, do we need any glue gun training, you two?
07:22I mean, I've never used a glue gun, sir.
07:24All training, very welcome.
07:25OK, right.
07:26So I've put mine on my little bit of cardboard.
07:28Oh, OK.
07:28Cardboard.
07:29What we'll do is we'll position the first bits down just to hold them in place.
07:33Do we need to wiggle it about to get glue all over it or just...?
07:36So once they're held in place, we can go and add more glue to make sure it's really...
07:39OK, does it matter that it's not perfect?
07:42No, because we're going to perfect it a little bit later.
07:44When you were making things with Jack when he was a kid, how did you survive without a glue gun?
07:50Well, do you know, one of my proudest moments, I don't know if you remember, the Tracey Island Christmas debacle.
07:57Oh, Tracey Island.
07:59Thunderbirds.
07:59I made it.
08:00So my mum made me a Tracey Island.
08:03I would have put me in my chair in toilet paper.
08:04Yes!
08:05Tracey Island.
08:05Oh, so she's definitely a crafter then.
08:08Sadly, I think it was my finest hour.
08:10Yeah, well, I hear that's good.
08:11It's been downhill ever since, but...
08:13Sarah?
08:14Yes?
08:14I think I might have glued my stars to the table.
08:18I've just noticed...
08:19Don't you worry, we'll just strategically tap it off.
08:22Right, we'll come up.
08:23We'll do it.
08:23Look, mine's come up in one piece.
08:25How did you get that off the table, Hilary?
08:27I got the scissors and just eased it off.
08:30It's coming, it's coming.
08:32There you go.
08:34Look at that.
08:34Is it feeling pretty sturdy?
08:36It is feeling pretty sturdy.
08:37Yeah, are we ready to move on to the next thing?
08:38We are.
08:38I think we are.
08:39Right, what we're going to do is we're going to wrap our star in jute twine.
08:45You can either tie a knot in it to get it started, or you can stick it down with a bit of hot glue.
08:50Right, so what I'm doing is I'm just wrapping it round a few times.
08:55Just generally randomly?
08:57Generally randomly.
08:58Around each arm?
08:59Around each arm, but then what we need to do is every now and again is pop a little glob of hot glue,
09:05just so that we keep it nice and tight.
09:08These are starting to look really good, and they're starting to take shape, don't they?
09:12And come on, this is just a bit of jute twine.
09:14Yeah.
09:15Do you think you'll get Jack doing any crafting?
09:17Do you know what?
09:18He's quite arty, Jack.
09:19Is he?
09:20He was an art scholar at school.
09:22Really?
09:22Yeah, and went and did history of art at Manchester University for about ten seconds.
09:26Did he?
09:27Got his comedy career going.
09:29What I do want you all to do at some point as well is find out which way your star's looking the best.
09:36So it'll look nicer.
09:38That is my top there looking really good.
09:41Yeah.
09:41So what I'm going to do is while I'm here, I'm going to put a little blob of glue and I'm going to give myself a nice little loop to hang it and then wrap it round a couple of more times.
09:52You two are getting on great there.
09:54Do you know what I'm going to do while you're doing that?
09:56I've been working on a bigger one.
09:59Whoa.
10:00Size of that?
10:01I'm feeling slightly inadequate now with our little stars.
10:03Exactly the same technique.
10:05I've just used bigger dowels and I'm going to add a little bit of twine onto that one while you are gone.
10:11A little bit of extra gourd twine.
10:12Gourd twine.
10:13To finish it off, you've just got to cut the end and we're just going to glue the end in.
10:17Right.
10:18Hillary's going for it.
10:19Going for the snip and the glue.
10:21Slip and the prod, presumably.
10:23I've prodded it in a little bit.
10:25What did you do then?
10:26You glued it and buried it.
10:27Buried it.
10:27Yeah.
10:29I've given you some lights there, by the way.
10:30You can be unwinding your lights.
10:34Yes, love a light.
10:35Do you want me to unwind them for you, Tony?
10:37I am about to make a holy mess of this, aren't I?
10:39Let's do a swap then.
10:40So glad you're here, Sarah.
10:41Do you know what?
10:42I'll keep you right.
10:43Do you think you could get any of your curry cast crafting?
10:45Absolutely.
10:45Yeah?
10:46Yeah.
10:46There you go.
10:47They're all very jealous when I thought I was coming here.
10:49Is that right?
10:49Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:50Oh, I love that.
10:51How long have you been in curry?
10:53I've been in curry for six years.
10:55Wow.
10:55Six years, yeah.
10:56Wow.
10:56I used to love Benidorm.
10:58Oh, did you?
10:59Oh, I loved Benidorm.
11:00Yeah.
11:01Amazing.
11:01You know, I've got my hot pants under this table.
11:04Oh, we're back to you.
11:05Show your hair.
11:06Yes, hello.
11:07We did one Christmas episode, which was shot in the middle of the summer.
11:13So it was about 32 degrees.
11:15We had Tim Healy stood on the roof of the Benidorm Palace with his wig on, sweating, spraying snow all over the road.
11:25Are you going with the lights?
11:27Yeah, so we're just twirling it round, do we?
11:29Stick them on and then just hide that inside at the back.
11:33And then we're just going to wind the lights round.
11:36Yeah.
11:36Switch them on, Tony.
11:37Let's see how they're looking.
11:38Oh, yes.
11:40And I've just given you a nice little sprig that we can add on to the edge as well.
11:45You've gone mad.
11:46Nice little bit of foliage on the edge there.
11:48Right, so all I've done on my big one there is added a nice ribbon to be able to hang it up with.
11:55Ooh, nice.
11:56That's nice.
11:57Tied a little bow on the front and then these are just, they just all pop in.
12:02It adds a nice little something, doesn't it?
12:04I'm going to celebrate this.
12:07This is, again, so simple, but so effective.
12:12I mean, it looks kind of rustic, looks like it should be on a tree.
12:17Loving the glue gun as well.
12:18I definitely want a glue gun.
12:20And then all I added was a little bit of extra gold time.
12:22Gold time.
12:23And it just gives it that little bit of something else.
12:25Bit of bleed, yeah.
12:26But it's exactly the same technique as you two have finished anyway.
12:29We have.
12:30How will I, oh, look at those.
12:33I might display it with my other star.
12:35Oh, look.
12:36Could I just say something about your star?
12:38Go on.
12:38It would make a fabulous athlete because it's got quite a wide base.
12:43Like myself.
12:45I'm not gloating here, but I'm pretty impressed with my star.
12:49I really am.
12:49Our personalities have come through in our stars.
12:52We've seen Hilary's.
12:53His is all athletic and neat and a bit like Hilary, nice and slender.
12:58Mine's a bit rough and ready, a bit round, round the edges.
13:01And there's also a star with a very wide base.
13:07Well, you know what I'm thinking, of course, don't you?
13:09That I'm now going to have to make two more because I've got three grandchildren.
13:12So I can't leave one out.
13:13One for each.
13:14Well, Hilary, don't you worry.
13:15I've got plenty of crafting lined up the rest of the day for us.
13:18We are just getting started.
13:20Ready to start on the next big meal?
13:21Ready for letter three.
13:22Bring it on.
13:22Have you been out in the garden yet?
13:45Well, hello mate, I've had a cheeky walk around.
13:46Wicked off a few bits of branches that we might use later.
13:49Hey, up.
13:49Oh, hello.
13:50Someone's been shopping.
13:51I told you we were going B.
13:53Nice.
13:54I told you.
13:55Magic tick.
13:56I love that we can get creative without needing weeks of prep.
14:00Just a little bit of foliage and an Amazon delivery.
14:03Right.
14:04So, I've got everything we needed.
14:07Oh, it's like Christmas.
14:08Well, funny you should say that.
14:10A little bit of for snow.
14:12Oh.
14:12Yes.
14:13It's Christmas without snow.
14:14Well, for snow and Epsom salt.
14:16Oh, it works great for a snowy look.
14:20Okay, I've got some glittery yarn.
14:22Oh, of course you have.
14:23A little bit of felt.
14:24Oh, now this is right up my store.
14:26I love a bit of felt.
14:27Now, I've got plenty of little twigs.
14:29I didn't know how good we'd be able to forage those.
14:32I'm slightly curious about the Epsom salt.
14:34Yes, I am.
14:35Is there a hot tub in the garden?
14:37You wish, Hilary.
14:38You wish.
14:38And then this.
14:40Oh.
14:41Whoa.
14:42We're going to be crafting with.
14:43Wow.
14:44Look at that.
14:44Right, so...
14:46A few biscuits in there, couldn't you?
14:48Oh, no.
14:49Actually, we're not going biscuits.
14:51That's a shame.
14:52No Christmas cookies.
14:53What we are going to do is we're going to create a whole scene inside the big jar.
14:57Nice.
14:58Liking that.
14:59Yeah.
15:00Right, come on then.
15:00You've got one jar each.
15:02Here you go, Hilary.
15:03Oh, thank you very much.
15:04Heavy.
15:05Lovely, thank you.
15:06So, Tony, I'm going to need those little artist palettes.
15:09Oh, we're getting properly artistic now.
15:12I thought that was for eggs.
15:13So your eggs didn't fall over.
15:15Quare legs.
15:16Quare legs, yeah.
15:16At that size.
15:17Right, pass me them here and I'll put us a little bit of glue in the middle of each of
15:20them.
15:21So, this is just a regular PVA glue.
15:23Plenty of it.
15:24Right, and then we're going to need those Epsom salts.
15:27And what we're going to do is we're going to create a snow scene with a little bit of
15:32a window.
15:34Oh.
15:34So that you can look into the jar, but you've got snow in the background.
15:37Okay, so you could take your lid off if you wanted.
15:40And I would recommend doing a little bit at a time.
15:44So maybe we'd do a round dwindle, first of all.
15:47Yeah.
15:47I'm going for a wavy bottom.
15:49Are you?
15:50Hello.
15:51Oh, Tony's getting all artsy.
15:53Hello.
15:54I know.
15:54So now that I've hasted the glass.
15:57Yeah.
15:58How do I get the salt on?
15:59We're going to paint and then we're just going to literally tap the salt.
16:03With the hands?
16:04With your hands.
16:05A sprinkle situation.
16:06A sprinkling situation, I like it.
16:09Yeah.
16:09But I assume we're doing the salts on this tray so that I'm...
16:13Yes, I'm going in.
16:14She's going in.
16:15Hillary's going in.
16:16This is lovely because it's very messy.
16:18You're very messy.
16:19Yeah.
16:20How are you getting on there, Tony?
16:20You're being very quiet.
16:22I'm in the zone.
16:23I'm in the zone.
16:23I'm just about to...
16:24Oh, sorry, I'm nicking Hillary's salts there.
16:27Is that a bit of sabotage going on there, Tony?
16:30Not at all.
16:31This is a competition.
16:32Oh, this is so satisfying.
16:34Isn't it?
16:34It's making a mess without getting told off for it.
16:37It's great.
16:37Yeah, exactly.
16:38I love it.
16:39So, Tony, I'm guessing you've probably filmed Christmas on curry already, have you?
16:43We have.
16:44So, on about the 1st of October, you come down to the set and you can smell turkey and you
16:49can smell a roast dinner.
16:50Eight o'clock in the morning, when you've just finished your scrambled eggs, you then
16:54have to sit down and eat a full-on cooked Christmas dinner, which our brilliant art department
16:59has normally been up all night cooking this Christmas dinner.
17:01Oh, lovely.
17:02Which is brilliant.
17:03Oh, I feel like I'm getting all the behind-the-scenes gossip here as well.
17:07What do you want to know?
17:08Does anyone get a bit, er, blurry around Christmas?
17:12Well, a few people are probably getting murdered as it's Coronation Street, you know.
17:16But that's fine, though.
17:17They keep me busy because I'm the undertaker, so...
17:19Oh, right.
17:20Of course.
17:20I usually have a very busy Christmas.
17:22That's looking good.
17:23Probably don't need to put more salt on it.
17:25No, I think that looks great.
17:27Now, I think we should leave those ten minutes and let's do a bit of a clean-up, get the
17:31Epsom salts off the table and then we can start doing the crafting to go inside.
17:34OK.
17:41OK, so while they are just drying a little bit, I thought, should we start and make our
17:45bits to go inside?
17:46Yes, please.
17:47Yes.
17:47Right.
17:47So, you've got some glittery yarn and I thought we could all make an angel and then we could
17:52dangle her down from the top.
17:53Nice.
17:54Have you made any angels before?
17:55Only in the snow.
17:56Yeah.
17:57Oh.
17:57So, piece of cardboard.
17:59Yeah.
17:59And what we're going to do is we're going to wrap this round our cardboard.
18:06I mean, we're obviously going to make our tassel into an angel, but, I mean, this is how
18:10you would make tassels to decorate anything.
18:12Tassel-tastic.
18:13It is tassel-tastic, Hilary.
18:15I love it.
18:16Tassel-tastic.
18:17Yeah.
18:18Or my angel to be as chubby as my star.
18:20Oh, you want a chubby angel.
18:21Chubby angel.
18:22Right, if you want a chubby angel, then maybe he's had a little bit more then.
18:26Yeah.
18:26I think I might leave mine.
18:28I think she'll be quite nice.
18:30OK.
18:30How's that?
18:31He's still got to look good.
18:32Yeah.
18:32It's looking good.
18:33Right, so, if you trim off your yarn, right, then what I do want you to do is cut yourself.
18:42Now, we need quite a long piece, because we're going to dangle her from the top of our jars
18:48with this.
18:50So, we can always trim it later.
18:51I do.
18:52OK.
18:52Yeah.
18:52Yeah, looking good.
18:54Looking good for the wee.
18:55With a flourish.
18:55Looking good.
18:56Oh, she's there with the scissors.
18:58Thread it through.
18:59Yeah.
19:00And then tie it at the top.
19:02Oh, Nick.
19:03Just tie it at the top.
19:05Nice and tight.
19:07Right?
19:07So, if that's going to be our top, what we're going to do is just take it off here first.
19:14Unless we've wound it too tight.
19:16Yeah.
19:16No, you've got that.
19:18And then we're just trimming through them all at the bottom.
19:20Yeah.
19:21Right.
19:22Right, I'm going to go flourish now.
19:24Oh.
19:24There we go.
19:25It's very satisfying, isn't it?
19:26It is, that noise, yeah.
19:28I think Hilary's got the edge on me.
19:29She's very nimble with her fingers, so I just need to be careful that I don't start losing,
19:36because I think she's better than she's letting on.
19:40Yeah, yeah, I've got my eye on her.
19:41Now, can you see that she looks a little bit rainbow-esque at the moment?
19:46Yes.
19:46Yes, and what I want to do is bring her all together.
19:48Yeah.
19:49So, we're going to give her a little bit of a body, and then the rest coming down.
19:52So, if you cut a longer piece of yarn.
19:55And what I want you to do is tie it round her midriff.
19:59Oh, several times?
20:00Several times.
20:01Okay.
20:02Yeah.
20:03So, can you see?
20:04So, we're going to...
20:04Oh, so she's got a head.
20:05I see.
20:06Well, no, that's going to be a body.
20:08For a head...
20:09Yeah.
20:09I've got you a little bead.
20:10Yes.
20:11Okay.
20:11So, all we're going to do is we're going to thread the wool through the bead.
20:16It's all about the lick.
20:17It's all about the lick.
20:18We've got this down pat now, haven't we?
20:20We have.
20:21Right.
20:21Now, we could tie a big knot above a head, but we don't need to, guys, because we've got our glue guns.
20:27So, all I want you to do is put a little blob of glue, more or less, into the wooden bead and then beat the wooden bead on.
20:37This is now, like, brain surgery.
20:39It's hot.
20:40Going in, Hilary.
20:41Oh, nice, yeah.
20:42Going in.
20:42Oh.
20:45Pull through, darling.
20:46Do you know what I'm going to do with my angel?
20:47I'm going to give her a little hair trim on the bottom.
20:50Okay.
20:50So, just so that she's all a little bit uniformed.
20:53So, do you know what I thought I'd do?
20:54I've tied a little bow for you, which I thought would make her wings at the back.
20:59Nice.
21:00So, all we need to do is let me get the glue gun out.
21:04Right.
21:05So, there are our...
21:08Oh, Tony, she's gorgeous.
21:11Love it.
21:12I think he's going to give me a good run for my money.
21:14I think he's got hidden depths, and I need to look to my laurels.
21:18I think he's going to run me to the line.
21:24Bring it on.
21:26I feel that she needs eyes and things.
21:30Oh, is that a bit radical?
21:32She's gone rogue.
21:33Not even without faces.
21:35But if you want to give her some eyes, I'll find you a Sharpie when we have a bit of a break later.
21:40Now, obviously, we're going to put them in our little snowy scenes, but you could do all sorts of these.
21:45You could hang them on the tree.
21:46You could...
21:47Oh, if you've wrapped presents, you could use it as, like, a little tag on your present.
21:50Brilliant, yeah.
21:52OK, so, if you get your jar up, it should be dry now.
21:56I hope you these are heavy.
21:59Oh, so, a bit of snow in the bottom?
22:01Yes, please.
22:02Right.
22:03You've got a bag of four snow there.
22:06Four snow.
22:07Four snow.
22:08I love it.
22:09It's like the true northerner in me here.
22:11All of it?
22:12No, you don't want too much in.
22:15That's looking good, Tony.
22:17I'll put some Christmas lights out.
22:19And then your lights, you see, will just pop on top.
22:22Oh, look at that.
22:24It's like a twinkling masterpiece.
22:26And then you can have the angel flying over the top.
22:29She's going to look great in there.
22:31Yes.
22:31That's dead centre.
22:32She looks great.
22:33Well, we're now going to build a little village inside for our angel to fly over.
22:38Love it.
22:39Now you are crafter-extraordineers.
22:42Right.
22:42Get your lid on.
22:43Make them room.
22:43Get your lid on.
22:44Yep.
22:44Let's get them out of the way and let's get started on the next bit.
22:48It wouldn't be Christmas without a fun, festive treat.
23:01And this one's guaranteed to disappear faster than Santa on Christmas Eve.
23:05I was thinking we'd do a little treat for Hilary and Tony.
23:10A little kind of mid-crafting interlude pick-me-up.
23:14So I'm going to make some peanut butter chocolate cups in little reindeer shapes.
23:18This is a foolproof way to melt the chocolate.
23:27And then I'm going to make them into peanut butter cups.
23:30So I've just got some tiny little cake cases.
23:33I'm just popping a little bit of chocolate into the base that will form the bottom part of the peanut butter cup.
23:40And then I want it to kind of come up the sides.
23:44So I'm just going to ease it round like this.
23:49Right.
23:50I've gone for squeezy peanut butter to make life easier.
23:54And then we're going to seal that in with even more chocolate.
24:09Now I've seen the fancy chocolatiers, like, give them all the tap.
24:14Oh, just levels them out perfectly.
24:16Then we just need to make them into reindeers.
24:18So I've got some little pretzels.
24:21I thought they'd snap in half and make little antlers.
24:24And then I've got some little edible reindeer eyes.
24:28And the red noses are just little sweeties.
24:42Oh, these are coming together. Lovely.
24:44And then they're ready to go in the fridge.
24:57And then all we need to do is take them out of their little wrappers.
25:03Now, they look smashing.
25:12And I think Hillary and Tony are going to love them.
25:15Let's have a little try.
25:18Mmm.
25:21Mmm.
25:21Mmm-hmm.
25:23Oh, they're smashing.
25:26Now, let's see if Hillary and Tony think that these red noses reindeers should go down in history.
25:32Oh, they're coming on.
25:34Oh.
25:34Oh.
25:35I've made us a little treat.
25:37Oh.
25:37She's been teased again.
25:39Do you like them?
25:40Oh, that is so cute.
25:42Have a wonderful taste.
25:42Oh, thank you so much.
25:44So a little bit of something to keep you going through the afternoon.
25:46However, I will say I have an ulterior motive as well.
25:49So, you know we're having a party at the end of the week.
25:52Yeah.
25:52Right.
25:53So we're inviting loads of the local people from the area who don't get to have a Christmas day.
25:58Oh.
25:58Oh.
25:59Oh, brilliant.
26:00So we are going to be decorating this room.
26:02So everything you're making is going to be to decorate the room.
26:04And these are going to be what I'm feeding them.
26:06Can I just say, very inventive use of a pretzel.
26:09Yeah.
26:09Mm-hmm.
26:10Yeah.
26:10I'm not sure how I feel about eating Rudolph.
26:12Rudolph, I'd go for it.
26:13It tastes good.
26:14Does it?
26:14It tastes good, Tony.
26:15Oh.
26:17It's great in one.
26:19Mm.
26:19That's gorgeous.
26:20Mm-hmm.
26:20That Tony wasn't remotely worried about eating them.
26:22Ah!
26:24Do well with you, Hutt, and I'll let you have another one.
26:26All right.
26:27There's work to be done.
26:28Mm-hmm.
26:29I thought what we could do is a little scene inside the jar.
26:31Yeah.
26:32And we'd start off making a little hut.
26:33Remember, I've got the twigs.
26:36I've cut you both a few little bits of card.
26:39Mm-hmm.
26:39Get your glue gun in.
26:40And then stick the sides together.
26:43Right.
26:43Okay.
26:44Yeah.
26:45And then stick the twigs on the sides.
26:49One-handed glue gun in now and everything.
26:51Yeah.
26:58Right.
26:59So my thinking was, we'll stick our glue on.
27:02Mm-hmm.
27:03Stick the twigs on, which are slightly too long, right?
27:07But what we can do is, is then get the secateurs and just trim off the edges.
27:12Tilt it round.
27:12It might be going radical, because I think I'm going to go that way.
27:15I am.
27:16Hello, it's your house.
27:18You stick them however you want to stick them.
27:20Okay.
27:21So just a general spread.
27:23General spread of glue.
27:24Some twigs might stick on a bit easier than others.
27:27Oh, they stick fast.
27:28They stick fast, don't they?
27:30You've got to keep them moving.
27:30You've got to keep them moving.
27:39Let me get you all a pair of secateurs.
27:44Pretty brute strength there, Tony.
27:46I'm going to be picking up twigs all week, aren't they?
27:55You are?
27:55You are.
27:56Yes.
27:57I don't know how to tell you this.
27:59You have a glue stick.
28:00Oh, Hillary, what is wrong with me?
28:02She likes a bit of glue.
28:04Oh, my God.
28:04That glue.
28:06Now, even if you didn't want to sit and do it with twigs, you could do it with, like, a little bit of moss.
28:10Yes.
28:10On that side.
28:11Yes.
28:12I think I might cut a little door out of my felt.
28:14Oh, I haven't done my roof.
28:16I'm thinking felt roof.
28:18A little look, this colour felt.
28:23You could, you know what you could do?
28:24I'm going to try and stick four of these together.
28:27Make a little chimney.
28:28Oh.
28:29So, I have to ask, is anybody working at all over Christmas?
28:33I'm off.
28:34I'm really lucky.
28:35The whole of Coronation Street, the whole thing shuts down, so the whole cast and the whole crew, we all get a good full-on Christmas.
28:42Don't you sometimes do a bit of panto?
28:44I have done, yeah.
28:45Yeah, I have done three.
28:46My first ever job was in panto.
28:48Was it?
28:49I played back end of the cow.
28:50Did you?
28:51I did.
28:52There was a whole milking sequence where I had to have a sequence of bottles under the costume and drop the right bottle at the right time.
29:00There was a milking sequence?
29:02There was.
29:02I mean, yes.
29:03That was not something I was expecting to be discussing today.
29:08Doesn't Tony's little hut look at me, is it?
29:09I love it.
29:10It's an alpine hut.
29:10I'm loving this.
29:11I need another glue stick because I'm glu-tastic again.
29:14Hilary glu-tastic.
29:15Hilary glu-tastic.
29:16Hilary, that's your third glue stick.
29:17It's about my fifth glue stick.
29:19I think you've lost count.
29:20I think it's been a lot more than three.
29:21It has.
29:23I managed to trance through the show's budget as well in glue sticks.
29:27Yes, I'm so sorry.
29:31And then, of course, we've got some snore.
29:32So if you want to put some four snore on.
29:34Sorry, I'm taking so long doing this.
29:36I do.
29:36I know people have got homes to go to, but I've just got a plan.
29:41Sorry.
29:42I've got a plan and I'm going to stick to it because I want this to be the best it can be.
29:48Hilary, I think I've just heard someone shout Happy New Year.
29:50Come on, Hilary.
29:55Come on.
29:56Come on, love.
29:58You still want to part with her glue gun, did you?
30:01Have you got the plan there, Hilary?
30:02How's it plan?
30:03I've cut it on a bias.
30:05Oh, she's cut it on the bias, ready to go.
30:09There's the perfectionist coming out.
30:11I promise I've nearly finished.
30:14She's gone in with the snore.
30:16Oh, it does look good to get the vacuum cleaner out at the end.
30:23There we go.
30:24Are you happy with that?
30:25I do apologise that I've taken so long.
30:27Right, let's have a look at how our little houses are looking.
30:31Sarah.
30:33Hello.
30:35Isn't it?
30:35Yes.
30:36That looks brilliant.
30:37I'm very excited.
30:38I mean, I was very pleased with the end result,
30:41but the journey to get to the end result was definitely not my finest hour
30:45because the latent perfectionist in me came to the fore.
30:50And yes, I hold my hands up.
30:51I am a perfectionist, which is a blessing and a curse.
30:55And they all look a little bit different.
30:57They do.
30:57That's what I love about it is that it's your own take, isn't it?
31:01Do you know what?
31:02I do feel proud.
31:03I feel like running home to my mum going,
31:05Mum, look what I made.
31:06I do.
31:06I do.
31:07I feel like I'm six again.
31:09And I love it.
31:10Do you think mine was the best?
31:13I won't tell anyone.
31:15So, we've got a cabin.
31:23Yeah.
31:24And I think we should make a tree.
31:25Right.
31:26I've also planned you a base structure for the tree.
31:30Yes.
31:31You'll see I've cut you a pie shape.
31:34A pie shape cardboard.
31:35And what we're going to do is I just want you to bend it around your hand.
31:40Soften it up.
31:40Soften it all up.
31:42Because you want to make this into a bit of a cone.
31:44Ah.
31:45Do you want like a party hat?
31:46Got it.
31:47So we are going to adorn said foliage.
31:51Ah, got it.
31:51Do you see where we're going with that?
31:53You'll not be surprised to see we're getting the glue guns back out.
31:56And I do have glue left, you'll be pleased to hear.
31:58Not for long.
31:59Not for long.
32:00Yes.
32:00I've never known anyone so trigger-happy.
32:05Right.
32:05Get yourself a bit of foliage.
32:07And these are just leftover bits that we cut off the shrubbery in the garden.
32:11It's as simple as all we're going to do is pull off the bits and then stick them to go down the tree.
32:20It's interesting you've done that way.
32:21Because I, okay, well, three would, the horns are all down like this.
32:25I'm with you.
32:31Can you remember any of Jack's Christmas performances when he was a wee bag?
32:35He did play Joseph one year.
32:38Was he any good?
32:40Yeah, there was quite a lot of waving to people going on.
32:42But that's great.
32:44We call that showing off.
32:46Yeah, yeah, exactly.
32:47He's going for it.
32:51He's just going for it.
32:53So, I mean, you could add a bit of snow if you want.
32:55I'm going to keep mine as it is because I think it looks great.
32:57Yeah.
32:58Just dip it in.
32:59Nice.
32:59There we go.
33:00Yeah.
33:00Snow top tree.
33:01Okay.
33:04Right.
33:04Are we all ready to put them inside our snowy jars?
33:08Ooh, I love this mess.
33:10Jarl coming in, Mrs Whitehall.
33:11Oh, thank you, sir.
33:12Thank you, thank you, thank you.
33:13There you go.
33:13Oh, you want your little log cabin in there.
33:16Tree in the back with you.
33:17Don't trouble you for a glue stick, or I could just use yours.
33:23Where's the angel going to go?
33:25Let's have a look.
33:26I might need your crafty eye here.
33:29Down a bit, left a bit.
33:30Yeah, yes.
33:32Are you gluing her in or just jamming it in with the lid?
33:34I'm gluing her in.
33:36Big reveal, Hilary, big reveal.
33:38Ta-da!
33:39Oh, yes, it was her face in the right way.
33:42Actually, still not happy with the position of the angel
33:45because she's not looking the right way.
33:47That's going to worry me all the way home now.
33:50Let's see yours.
33:52Oh, yes.
33:52Oh, yes.
33:53Love it.
33:55Oh, yes.
33:57Spectacular.
33:58A scene in a jar.
34:00I wasn't sure what you meant at first, but what a great idea.
34:03I mean, again, our personalities shone through the jar.
34:06Mine was a bit rustic around the edge.
34:09Hilary's was very precise, as is Hilary.
34:13So, yeah, I mean, you just put your own personality
34:16on everything that you make, can't you?
34:17Really good idea.
34:18Thank you so much.
34:19I love that.
34:20Can we do this again?
34:20Hello.
34:21We've still got our gifts.
34:23Oh.
34:24Oh.
34:25Yes.
34:25Right, let's have a clean up and let's start and do some gifts.
34:28Okay.
34:28Perfect.
34:29We're back with more festive fun, and I've got just the trick
34:44to style up your favourite Christmas tipple.
34:49So, we've done a scene in a jar.
34:52I thought, why not do a little Christmas scene in a glass?
34:55This is a really fun treat and super easy.
34:58All I'm going to use, a little bit of rosemary,
35:01some pomegranate seeds, and we're going to freeze it ready.
35:05Now, this is the low-tack tape that is going to hold
35:09our little miniature Christmas tree in place.
35:13So, you can see there, I've just got a little bit
35:15of a gap in the middle.
35:17It looks about a good size there.
35:21And then you see that will be held just nicely in the glass.
35:27And then we want it to freeze in place there.
35:29So, I'm going to start off just with a little bit of water
35:31because it's going to be going into the freezer.
35:33Lovely.
35:35And then a couple of little pomegranates in,
35:37and they should sink to the bottom and give it a little bit of colour.
35:41And then I'm going to do one of them for each of us.
35:45Now, they are looking super, and then you just need to take the washi tape off.
36:08And what you'll see is that Christmas tree
36:11will have frozen all perfectly into place.
36:17And then all that's left is to add your tipple of choice.
36:21Now, I'm just adding tonic water to these.
36:24Oh, you're going to love them.
36:26This is a scene in a glass.
36:34I can use hers for sure.
36:36I'm very pretty.
36:38Got a little treat for everyone.
36:41What is that?
36:42So, we've done our scene in a jar.
36:45Look at this.
36:46I thought we'd do it in miniature and have our little scene in a glass.
36:49Now, you can add anything you want.
36:51I've got a bit of tonic water.
36:52Yes.
36:52Yep.
36:53So, what this is, is this is just frozen water.
36:58Yes.
36:59With our rosemary Christmas tree.
37:01With a little bit of pomegranate in the bottom for the colour.
37:03Piece of bread.
37:04And then it will float eventually.
37:06Yeah.
37:06That is absolutely divine.
37:09That would be perfect for a little gin and tonic, wouldn't it?
37:10Oh, hello.
37:11Oh, cheers.
37:12Merry Christmas.
37:13Merry Christmas.
37:16Love it.
37:16And that's a really pleasing shape, too.
37:19Right.
37:19Okay, put them to one side, then, because we've got some serious business to get going on.
37:23Please tell me you are both great at sewing.
37:27Absolutely hopeless.
37:28We're not doing sewing, are we?
37:30Yes, we're going to sew a Christmas stocking.
37:32I can't do sewing.
37:33I can't even thread the needle these days.
37:35You'll be great at it, though, are you?
37:36Uh, no.
37:40Right, okay, don't worry.
37:42No needles, no thread, no stitching.
37:45We're going for a no-sore stocking.
37:48Yes!
37:49With our...
37:50Yes!
37:50Woo-hoo!
37:52Now you're an expert.
37:54There we go.
37:54You're such a teetor.
37:55Your fist there, Hilary.
37:56Your fist.
37:57I literally thought I am...
37:59This is...
38:00I'm going to have an epic fail on this one.
38:02So, all been well.
38:04You should have brought something from home.
38:07Something Christmassy.
38:08Yes.
38:08Yes.
38:09I've got some jammies.
38:11What have you got?
38:12A very...
38:13Oh, Christmas onesie.
38:15Oh, Christmas onesie.
38:16Of course.
38:16Yeah.
38:17Nice.
38:17Surplus the requirements now.
38:19Well, it's had three years.
38:20Yeah.
38:21Okay.
38:21Totally.
38:22I've got a little sparkly top, which actually I've got two of, and I thought, okay.
38:25So, it's ready to be upcycled.
38:27It's ready to be upcycled, yeah.
38:28Right, okay.
38:29So, what I've done is I've cut you all out a template.
38:33Cardboard.
38:33Yeah.
38:33I'll draw around it.
38:34Yeah.
38:35Now, the only problem, I didn't know what fabric you were bringing, and some fabric lends itself
38:40better than others.
38:41You need something with structure.
38:43Yours would be brilliant.
38:44Ours, not so much.
38:46Not so good.
38:46If you think about it, you put a tangerine in the footer there.
38:50It's going to stretch, yeah.
38:50It's going to go flying.
38:51Yeah.
38:51So, what I've done is I've already cut some out of calico for you.
38:56So, that we can line it in the calico, which will be nice and strong.
39:01Yes.
39:01Little tip here, though.
39:03Yes.
39:03We're going to draw around the template and then leave ourselves a seam allowance.
39:08When you cut it out, leave an extra quarter of an inch.
39:11Okie doke.
39:12Half an inch.
39:12That sort of level.
39:13A margin.
39:13Yeah?
39:14Do you guys still have Christmas stockings at home?
39:17We do.
39:17We do.
39:18Yeah?
39:19Yeah.
39:19With people's initials on them.
39:21Well.
39:21Hang them over the fireplace.
39:22I can see that I've set myself a challenge here with this flabby material.
39:32Okie, so this is where you're going to leave that margin.
39:35Doesn't matter if it's not perfect.
39:38I mean, it does to me, but then I'll just...
39:40No, but you won't see it because it'll be inside.
39:41It's alright.
39:41I'll live with it.
39:43Just take a deep breath.
39:44Doesn't matter, Hilary, if it's not perfect.
39:47Perfect.
39:48Three.
39:48Perfect.
39:49Brilliant.
39:49Thank you very much.
39:49Right, okie.
39:50So, you should have two calico bits and two bits of fabric, and we need to stick our fabric one to the calico one.
40:01Okie.
40:02Okie?
40:03Yep.
40:03Inside the margin.
40:05Like this one.
40:06Right.
40:07Okie.
40:07Because we're going to seam all those edges in.
40:10Do not look what I'm doing, because you will go very wrong.
40:21But when we glue the sides together, it's going to be fine.
40:25Ok.
40:28Look, it's now curling up.
40:29Don't worry.
40:30Ok.
40:31I mean, how are you feeling about cutting up that amazing onesie after three years of sex?
40:40Well, I'm thinking, someone's going to have to buy me a brand new onesie.
40:42Right.
40:43Tony needs a new onesie.
40:44New onesie, please, Mum.
40:46Right.
40:47This is the really, really important bit.
40:48You must go right sides together.
40:52So, you mean right sides together, as in?
40:54Yes.
40:54So, we're going to glue the two right sides together.
40:58Okie.
41:00Right, so now you're going to put the glue exactly on the line.
41:03On the long side.
41:04And I want you to put plenty of glue on.
41:07You don't need to invite me to do that, Sarah.
41:11I'm already there.
41:17This is when I become six years old again, though.
41:20Oh.
41:20Do you know, so many people think, yeah, crafting for kids, and they don't realise just how enjoyable
41:28it can be.
41:29We forget, don't we?
41:30Yeah.
41:31I feel relaxed.
41:33It's just so nice to sit there, chatting away.
41:36It's all making the same thing.
41:37Looking at Hillary's, looking at mine.
41:39It's brilliant.
41:40It's so nice.
41:41Now, we can trim it so that it's all the same size.
41:45So that we don't have all of this extra bulk in, that we don't need.
41:54I've cut the wrong side of the gluing now.
41:57Just, just you, watch where you going, woman.
42:00He's just hacking at it with a pair of scissors, I'm like, just watch where we going.
42:06Tony, you can start the next stage.
42:07Yes.
42:07What I want you to do is cut up to, in a sort of half-inch increments, that glue line.
42:17Just around the heel?
42:18Just around the heel and around the toe.
42:21And it's just going to mean that when we turn it inside out, it's nice and neat.
42:26But be careful not to cut through the glue.
42:28Well, that's my problem.
42:30It was so good on the last task, and this one, literally epic fail.
42:35Oh, I don't think it's an epic fail.
42:38I think it's just a work in progress.
42:41What did you put in that drink?
42:44I knew I'd get the blade.
42:45Yeah.
42:45I think I'm fully sealed.
42:48Right.
42:49Grab the toe.
42:50Grab the toe and pull it through.
42:51Pull it through.
42:52Oh, hello.
42:54Is it...
42:54Oh, is it coming together?
42:57It's coming together beautifully.
43:00Look, hello.
43:01I have to say, Tony.
43:03It's happening.
43:04Hello.
43:04It's happening.
43:05It's happening.
43:06Yours would keep you warm at night as well.
43:09And then do you know what we can do?
43:11Add some embellishments.
43:12Yeah.
43:12I have got a whole load.
43:15Oh, look at that.
43:16A lovely trim.
43:18Oh, you could add a little bit of trim around the top like this.
43:20Do you know what I'm desperate to do about this?
43:22Just auditioning for Santa.
43:25What do you think?
43:26Hey.
43:27I don't know why I'm putting that on.
43:29One minute.
43:29Because...
43:29Oh.
43:31Also, I am a woman of a certain age.
43:33I can grow my own.
43:37So I can dress it up now.
43:39Tony, you make it look epic.
43:43Who are you making it for?
43:44My dog.
43:45Doggy Stocking.
43:47What's he called?
43:47Bozy.
43:48Bozy.
43:49What are you going to do?
43:50Are you going to do your trimming?
43:51Maybe he's adding an initial on, Hilary?
43:53Yes, I will add an initial.
43:55What's the dog called?
43:56Philly.
43:57Philly.
43:57Philly.
43:58Philly.
44:07So, talk us through what you've just done there, Hilary.
44:10I've literally glued this round the margin.
44:13Do you know what?
44:14But hold that up.
44:14That's looking really good.
44:15Isn't that looking really good there, Tony?
44:17Gorgeous.
44:17Well, have you enjoyed it?
44:20I have loved it.
44:21It's been an absolute block.
44:22I don't want to go home.
44:23No, neither do I.
44:24I feel so content.
44:27I feel like I've been away to a retreat or something.
44:29It's just such a lovely, lovely thing to do in the build-up to Christmas.
44:33And it's like...
44:35Ready?
44:37Yes.
44:37Drum roll, please.
44:38Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
44:39Oh, look at that.
44:42That looks so professional.
44:44You like that?
44:45Ozy.
44:46I've got F for Philly.
44:47Beautiful.
44:49Yay.
44:49Oh, yes.
44:50Looking good.
44:52Looking good.
44:52Yeah, we like.
44:53And some jammies.
44:55Gorgeous.
44:56Sarah is not known as the Queen of Crafting for nothing.
44:59What I love most of all is her enthusiasm.
45:02I think they look incredible.
45:05And that, for me, is important in life.
45:08Passion.
45:08That's what we want in life.
45:10More passion for things.
45:11I mean, I'm supposed to pick a winner, aren't I?
45:13It's been crafting heaven.
45:15Can I say I've got my crafting queen and my crafting king?
45:19Ah.
45:20Is that just that one?
45:21And that final high five.
45:23Yeah.
45:23I think we should all cheers to our amazing Christmas friends.
45:26Oh, I'm doing a wonderful, wonderful.
45:30Merry Christmas.
45:32It was a lovely day.
45:33Merry Christmas.
45:35Mmm.
45:35Next time.
45:38I think she looks the best out of them all, if I'm honest.
45:41The Christmas party preparations continue.
45:43I think you need to trim it a bit so it goes a bit pointy out the top.
45:47She's intimidating me now.
45:50With two more celebrity crafters.
45:53We're the craft version of Destiny's Child, yeah.
45:56Ha ha ha ha!
