00:00a motel room had been located while they were attempting to clean the room and what appeared
00:21to be bloodstains throughout the room the bed was pushed against the wall there was
00:28a distinct odor of vinegar in the room I mean a very strong odor that burned the nostrils as
00:35you entered the room it was absolutely horrific the amount of blood that was located in that
00:41bathroom and throughout the motel room they were in a polyamorous relationship there was
00:47indications of violence between all three of them the combination of drink and the seething
00:54undercurrent of jealousy made a powerful potion that got out of hand this girl was so loving you
01:05couldn't imagine her getting into this kind of situation she literally said they're gonna kill
01:11me and they said run run
01:15east point florida
01:44april 23rd 2016 franklin county sheriffs are responding to reports of a possible crime at the
01:52sportsman's lodge when we arrived at the sportsman's lodge i arrived about the same time as our crime
02:01scene we were directed to room 15 when i got to the room open the door there was a foul odor of what
02:14smelled like vinegar throughout the room and the far bed appeared to have a dark brown stain which i assumed
02:23to be blood the chair to the table was overturned the bed was pushed against the wall i observed a distinct images of blood stains on about the wall and the mattress
02:38there were also blood the curtain rod was missing there was no curtain on the shower
02:46it appeared someone had tried to clean the room and didn't clean it completely there were still blood
02:52stains on the side of the tub some on the sink of the bathroom and around the toilet area on the floor and
03:00outside of the room on several spots on the wall parts of the furniture and also by the front door
03:06it almost appeared as somebody exited the room hastily
03:10under one of the beds there was a piece of a stick and some little splinters of wood
03:17that at the time we didn't know what it was that was also collected for evidence purposes
03:23it's clear to police that there has been a violent confrontation
03:30as they continue their crime scene search their powerful blood searching agent luminal reveals a shocking
03:39detail once we applied luminol and then hit the room with a black light there was blood splatter all over
03:46the room the sink the cabinets the wall the toilet the shower the basin of the tub the side of the tub
03:56lit up this was definitely a gruesome crime scene
04:03as detectives try to work out what happened they are urgently dispatched to a nearby park where woman's body
04:10body has been found
04:16as i pull into the cul-de-sac i go to the end to the left side there's two cul-de-sacs
04:22the subject that found the body he was standing by his vehicle and pointed to the area where the body was
04:28located myself and my partner responded to assist lieutenant jones with it
04:33it was right in here in this area but about this far off of the pavement
04:42with the rain and all you could tell where she was bleeding from like i said she had a laceration
04:49body was you know in this area about five feet off of the pavement you could see her from about right
04:56here um you could tell it was built up but the only reason that it was knocked down is because she was
05:02thrown right there the initial impression was who is this individual we have a young female
05:09appeared to be in her early 30s that's here in the ditch deceased
05:15our primary focus is to identify her that way we can start telling her story
05:22crime scene analysts make their initial assessments paying particular attention to the condition of the
05:28victim's body there wasn't a lot of blood on the subject that i could personally see at the time
05:36and i didn't immediately move the body or touch the body at a certain point the bruises that was
05:43on the body we had to stop trying to make a complete accurate count they were too many overlapping
05:51bruises on her body we had numerous lacerations on her face around her eye her forehead cheek at the
05:59scene during the course of the investigation her hands were bagged and preserved for dna purposes in
06:05case she may have scratched the person that was responsible for her death in my 20-year career i've
06:13never seen anyone suffer that type of abuse to a body there was no id on the body she was wearing a
06:23spandex top and spandex pants there was nothing around the body to give us an id either officers then
06:31direct their attention to the eyewitnesses to see if they have any discernible connection to the crime
06:37a couple that's still on the scene that actually found the body was completely distraught um shaking
06:44and very nervous about what situation they had come upon when they located the body
06:51pulled in here gonna go brim fishing i backed around everywhere i'd be in that shade in that corner
06:57right there i got out was gonna pop the trunk or something black caught my eyes i walked over and
07:03i said oh my god baby don't get out whatever you do don't get out down 9-1-1 i went back over
07:09there about from here to the hood and hollered and screamed hoping she'd move she wasn't breathing
07:15i've been all over the world driving and everything and i ain't everything they did
07:20personally honestly until today with their demeanor and the way they were acting on the scene
07:27i believed with the statement that they gave that they had nothing to do with the body that was located
07:32at the scene then detectives make a crucial discovery upon processing the scene we identified almost a
07:47perfect boot print right on the edge of the dirt where the dirt is up on the asphalt and we were able
07:54to get a print impression of that boot after conducting the full investigation at the scene
08:07the body is removed from the location and transported to the medical examiner's office in tallahassee
08:13it was determined that she was covered from head to toe in bruises all different shapes sizes some
08:19consistent with being hit with objects some consistent with being punched it was also determined that
08:25her clothes that she was wearing was inside out and backwards like somebody dressed her like she was
08:32dressed hastily the injuries were very extensive in my time in law enforcement it was one of the most
08:40severe beatings i've ever seen
08:41police now believe that the victim may have been beaten to death at the sportsman's lodge before
08:49being left at the dumping site as police have pieced together the two crime scenes they receive an
08:56unexpected call while we're conducting an investigation in the room we're receiving a phone call from south
09:03florida from a detective in that area that said they're interviewing a subject that had information
09:09involving a homicide that took place possibly in our community and from that information he identified
09:15three subjects the victim was confirmed through a subject in south florida that knew the three subjects
09:22and he identified the tattoos and a photograph of the female the deceased as eileen sidon
09:29the amount of damage that they imposed on her body was completely what i would call overkill really
09:44makes you go into overdrive trying to figure out who it could be is it a single person is there more
09:50than one person involved and exactly who could have done this type of crime
10:04my sister was extremely
10:08gentle and sweet she had a tough exterior but she cared a lot she was very good to little you know cats and
10:18creatures and just was very loving when i was 16 and eileen was eight my mom passed away from colon cancer
10:30and she was only diagnosed about six months earlier and it was an aggressive stage so my mom was 48 when
10:40she passed away she was very young and she was very involved in both of our lives so that was um that was really hard
10:53my dad passed away six years later so i took the role of guardianship i would take her to school
11:02i would pick her up until she got a car and we lived together for four or five years
11:12one of the worst parts of your job is to notify a family member that one of their family members
11:18is deceased and not being there actually at the scene at the time with her
11:23to be able to comfort someone when you give them that information it's heartbreaking
11:27my head was in a tailspin but oddly enough the shock of it takes you to a numb place
11:43almost like shutting off
11:47someone notified me and said did you hear about eileen i think that uh something tragic happened to her
11:56and then i started searching on the internet this breaks my heart eileen was my daughter i loved
12:02her like more than you can ever imagine back of the crime scene police believe they have identified
12:11one of the other two subjects that were traveling with eileen management was able to provide us a credit
12:19car receipt and on that credit card receipt was the name christina arrojo who ultimately paid for the
12:26room and who was one of the females staying in the room they were looking for a third person who was in
12:35the room but they did not know their identity at the motel room we received information from south florida
12:44that contained three images of the subjects through department of vehicle information database
12:52the surveillance photos clearly identify two people we had pictures of the subjects that we were
12:59looking for that's possibly involved in the homicide christina arroyo and zachary abel
13:05with their suspects now identified detectives need to locate their whereabouts quickly
13:22the
13:33oh man this brings right memories
13:37yeah
13:40not much has changed no not at all that was the bed where most of the blood was located at on that
13:48mattress right there yeah remember it was shoved against the wall and there was run blood some
13:53type of chemical you know where they did a floor right there the vinegar and it was all that's
13:57where the pieces of wood were found underneath the bed right there on the headboard right toward
14:02the headboard as you couldn't see until the bed was actually moved out of the way
14:07and there was nothing covering the beds like they took the comforters and sheets and everything off of
14:11there yeah this new newer looking chair i don't recall this yeah they were located over there
14:19so the bathroom
14:24the blood was all down the side of that tub right there
14:27yeah i remember splatter being on the sink yeah that front of the toilet yeah all in there
14:33on the top of the toilet where the flush is at hasn't changed much at all no much at all
14:41it smells better too doesn't have that vinegar smell we smelled correct coming in here that's
14:51all you can smell detective jones and wheeler recall making a crucial discovery in the trash
14:57which ties the suspects to another restaurant they visited earlier that night the red pirate
15:04we sent investigators to the red pirate and we were able to get surveillance video of them
15:09eating playing putt-putt having a good time
15:21we continued to collect evidence from multiple locations in and around east point trying to
15:29establish a story and a timeline of when they arrived and when they left
15:33in the parking lot right out front there was a green tag that was located it had an alien head
15:40on it and i associated that with the alien vodka that was for sale at 98 liquors off of highway 98 here
15:47in east point two of the detectives went down there to obtain video footage of all three subjects going
15:53into the liquor store and obtaining the liquor from 98 liquors
16:04the police were able to get more information from the palm beach county detective who originally helped identify the victim
16:27the detective down there indicated that a male came in and told them that he had two friends arrive
16:39at his house christina aruhoo and a zachary abel and they should have had a third friend with them
16:46eileen sidon who was missing when they arrived they informed him that something terrible happened and she was dead
16:58detectives also learned that zachary christina and eileen were in a polyamorous relationship
17:04but there was a lot of jealousy between them all intentions had been rising in the days leading up to the murder
17:16after a short period of time the two subjects went to sleep on the male's couch and he immediately
17:24left the residence made a phone call to christina arroyo's father and asked to meet him because he had
17:31some information that concerned his daughter christina is the daughter of tony arajo who's a very high
17:39ranking officer in the palm beach county sheriff's office she was known to throw that information around
17:49to friends that she was connected in that regard the male leaves and meets christina's father and advises him
18:01that his daughter and zachary abel was involved in a homicide in the panhandle of florida and there
18:09was a female subject deceased that they had dumped her body in the panhandle and at that point christina's
18:14father stopped talking with him and advised one of his investigators to have an interview with the male
18:23subject the witness goes to the palm beach county sheriff's office to speak with the detectives there
18:31he claimed that he had video of christina's confession at one point he also claimed that he had video
18:38of zach's confession at one point but no video was was recovered myself and special agent sean wheeler
18:47was at the franklin county sheriff's office typing up a warrant for the arrest of zachary abel and
18:53christina arroyo agents were able to determine that christina arroyo and zachary abel were currently at his
19:02house he had indicated that zachary abel had told him that i came to your house because you on a boat and
19:11i want you to get me out of the country so that gave us some sort of urgency because of a possible flight risk
19:17we requested agents to go start surveillance looking specifically for the vehicle that christina
19:31arroyo and zachary abel were driving our team in south florida that was observing the residents observed
19:37the two subjects come out loading up the vehicle with luggage and what appeared to be several other
19:43items like they were going to leave the residents our agents observed zach and christina leave the
19:52residents they had to stop with a traffic stop and detain them at what point they were then taken into
19:58custody
20:10oh
20:16i was 31 30 years ago
20:18so
20:25we here is
20:27however uh
20:28you very well know if i talk to you uh to leave your work in the institution right
20:33so i just told you you have the right to call our opinion attorney
20:36if you have one present now are you working your right on the journey
20:42if you're possible to develop your right
20:45so i just want to make sure that you're involving your right to the journey
20:50okay uh if you have involved your right in the journey
20:53whether you're having any further conversation with the parents that now
20:57okay
20:59upon their arrest in south florida christina arroyo gave a statement in her statement she claimed that
21:09that zachary abel beat eileen signed to death and that she woke up to the altercation going on
21:21right and i'm not i'm not
21:22yeah i'm asking you to tell your story
21:27uh three over the last year's very serious situation you know pretty horrific afterwards
21:32so let's go back let's go back and tell me what we saw sad and really do you know don't leave anything out
21:40okay how did he be here
21:54later in the investigation zachary abel gave a proffer claiming that
22:00christina was the one that beat eileen to death so they were both in their statements pointing fingers
22:08at each other they were then extradited from miami to the franklin county jail
22:30with both suspects in custody police undertake a search of their car they find a clear footprint
22:44similar to the one where eileen's body was found
22:50on the back seat of the vehicle there was a sandy footprint where it looked like somebody put their
22:57foot on the back of the seat to either pull something in the back of the vehicle or to pull
23:02something out of the back of the vehicle also in the back flow board were two high top combat style
23:09boots that was a perfect match to the shoe print at the body dump scene and the shoe print in the back
23:18seat of the vehicle with this final link between zach and christina and the crime scene police can now
23:24learn about the jealousy within their polyamorous relationship that led to eileen's murder
23:34franklin county sheriff's department have arrested zachary abel and christina arajo with the murder
23:41of 30 year old eileen sidon at the sportsman's lodge in east point florida through suspect interviews
23:49they start to learn more about the relationship between the three people zach and christina were
23:56in a relationship for about a decade prior to eileen they were together had a used car business
24:04largely based on her funds
24:09christina was older than zachary about a decade older
24:13and the friends tell me that she was known to be in charge during the course of that relationship
24:23there had been other females in and out of that relationship eileen was the latest in that
24:31they met each other through mutual friends was what we've been told ultimately eileen ended up working
24:38for christina and zachary who ran the car lot friends have told me that eileen was not enamored of the
24:49three-part harmony here that she wanted a relationship with zach but she eventually acquiesced and
24:59went along with it there had must have been tensions that had lasted on the whole time with christina
25:08this threesome wasn't exactly an even steven three-way split the likelihood that that would lead to
25:16emotional situations is high
25:23throughout the investigation and talking to people we discovered that they were in a polyamorous
25:27relationship and the relationship was not a healthy one there was indications of violence between
25:36all three of them
25:42we were able to determine that a argument ensued between christina arohu and zachary abel eileen
25:51sided and zachary abel decided to get in a vehicle and drive north they drove straight on through to texas where
26:01they went out to texas under the emphasis of looking to purchase cars because we've discovered phone
26:10calls and text messages with christina arohu with zach indicating that she was mad they had received
26:18hundreds of frantic texts from christina
26:22many of them angry and abusive and uh threatening and for one reason or or another unexplained
26:33zachary invited christina to join them in dallas they spent a few days out in texas
26:42made their way to pensacola where they spent the night and then ultimately ended up in east point florida
26:46there was a noticeable suspicion that christina had plotted to get rid of her rival
26:58behind zach and christina's back eileen frantically calls her sister
27:04it was her calling me from on the road i don't remember if it was a payphone or if it was zach's
27:11phone number she literally said they're gonna kill me and i said if you feel that way and but i don't
27:20know why she feels that way i'm like run run we'll get you a ticket home like wherever you want to go
27:29run i didn't understand why she would say that i didn't know the details of who christina's father was
27:36at the time and why that was used to intimidate my sister and she had to quickly get off the phone
27:45we had a group chat with me and her friends to make sure that everybody was in the loop
27:56but that was the last time i heard from her this girl was so loving and so naive at times
28:03you couldn't imagine her getting into this kind of situation except for the fact that she loved love
28:11she just wanted to be loved and i really believe that they took advantage of that
28:19they arrived in franklin county which would be on the 21st of april 2018. they stopped at the red pirate
28:28restaurant located in east point florida on the side of highway 98 and had dinner after spending
28:35time at the red pirate eating and having a good time they asked one of the waitresses where would
28:40it be a good place to get a room for the night and one of the staff at the red pirate suggested the
28:46sportsman's lodge they arrived at the sportsman's lodge they ended up spending that first night
28:53they liked the area they were going to just spend one night and leave they ended up deciding to stay
29:00a extra night according to the videotapes that was obtained from 98 liquors they went to the liquor
29:08store the next day bought an abundance amount of alcohol and went back to the room and that is the
29:13evening that the people that worked at the motel saw them outside partying on the picnic table outside
29:19of the room i am inclined to think that the combination of drink and the seething undercurrent
29:30of jealousy and resentment made a powerful potion that got out of hand
29:38the two alleged perpetrators were in jail in franklin county and this was in may of 2018.
29:55the trial wouldn't happen until january of 2024. covid delayed it was all done by zoom and you have to
30:06have in person situation for murder trial to happen they were initially charged with second degree
30:15murder but they were ultimately indicted by franklin county grand jury and charged with first degree
30:19murder so our thought process at the outset was to try the two of them together
30:26we had the case prepared to go to trial in 2023 and shortly before the trial
30:33i got notified by christina's attorney that she wished to enter a plea and cooperate and give testimony
30:40for the state i believe that she decided that cooperating in hopes of a lesser sentence was
30:48her best choice at the time i thought it was cowardly and it was an easy out for her and that's
30:55the type of person she is i swear you in go ahead madam clerk there was no plea agreement in the sense
31:04of the state agreed to give her x number of years in exchange for her testimony that was not the
31:10agreement christina entered what we call a straight up plea which means there was no agreement as to
31:14what her sentence would be to second degree murder and the judge was free to sentence her according to
31:22the florida sentencing guidelines all the way up to life in prison when we first got in the room
31:28she was sitting on the bed closest to the bathroom zachary was laying on the bed closest to the front
31:34door of the room and when i came in i had gathered a couple things from the barbecue that was outside food
31:40wise and brought it in covered it up and then i laid on the bed next to zachary closest to eileen
31:48and i tell her that we're just let's stick we're going to take a nap and we'll get up and get something
31:55to eat she argues that she's not going to sleep she doesn't want to go to sleep when i said well okay
32:03then do whatever you want she said christina guess what what happens when she says christina guess what
32:11i say what eileen she never had a chance to say anything to me okay why not
32:19zachary got up immediately and went over to her and was in her face and he bit her in her nose
32:30her statement certainly fit with the physical evidence that we had in the case mr abel had up to
32:37that point invoked his rights and not spoken on what had happened so christina was the only means we had
32:42of having any information at that point in time about what happened in the courtroom zachary didn't
32:48show any signs of remorse he was very stoic i didn't see him show much emotion at all when christina
32:58testified against him she made eye contact with him and just started sobbing on the stand you could tell
33:07that she really feel that she really has feelings for zach and i believe those emotions were coming out on the stand
33:17had zach been drinking yes sir
33:19when zach drinks does he act differently yes in what way
33:30it becomes very aggressive very mean he was punching her so punching her punching her punching her
33:44punching her and this area her stomach area she's so beat up
33:50she has her eyes are black because her swollen or she's bleeding from her ears she's bleeding from her head
34:01she's just yelling at her telling her you always start problems you always gotta start problems
34:10when he bit her on the face they reacted me to get up she was kicking him back
34:16i i ended up hitting her myself and screaming at her what it you know what is going on you know what do you want to tell me
34:33i don't know what she wanted to tell me
34:36what happens then he picks up his walking stick that he had this wood walking stick he had he hits
34:53there several times with it and when he was standing over he had it and he was putting it on her throat and
34:59he was i had it over her neck her neck right here okay no was he doing that with like the end of it or was
35:10it like okay the whole thing okay the whole thing when he hit her in the back though the stick broke
35:21she's not dressed at the time so i go and get her clothing
35:26and i'm helping her put her pants on and her shirt while she's still on the floor
35:36he gets up and he swoops her up with his arms and underneath her arms he gets her up
35:44and lays her down on the bed and as soon as she gets laid down on the bed she throws up
35:51and then zachary and her went to sleep and i went to sleep on the other bible
35:56so when you went to bed was eileen still conscious yes
36:06so when you laid down she was alive yes sir
36:08you wake up the next morning are you the first one awake yes sir i yelled at them to get up we got
36:26to go i'm trying to get ready they're not moving i take the sheet and i take the sheet off of them and
36:34that's when i saw her okay and what did you notice about her she wasn't normal she wasn't her coloring
36:44was gray she wasn't she looked horrible she wasn't breathing
36:52factory was startled he seemed like he was still a little intoxicated
36:57he jumped over her he looked very scared very worried he had his hands on his head gripping his hair
37:11just asking me repeatedly did i do this did i do this did i do this
37:15he went um and picked up eileen and started yelling at me to help him i told him i'm not i'm not touching her
37:27he started screaming he was having struggling getting her picking her up
37:33um and i opened the door to the car for him what did zach do when you opened the car door
37:39he put her in the back seat of the vehicle when he put her in the car he had her sitting up like a person
37:49with a seat belt on her
37:53i drove slowly and he told me to go up this hill neither of us knew what was there so i was
38:03cautiously driving up i didn't know what was there it looked like a a cul-de-sac area like a
38:10partial cemented area and then the rest of his woods so like i all the way to the center before it got
38:18to grass he put his foot inside the vehicle and snatched her up by her arm and her foot
38:28and carried her around the vehicle and just swung her into the into the woods
38:42the trial lasted approximately a week jury went and deliberated and then they came back
38:49i'm nervous every time i get that phone call that the jury has a verdict it doesn't matter
38:55how big the case is but obviously in a murder case it's it's magnified all right everyone please
39:02be seated you appear to have the verdict form does that mean you are the four person
39:07yes has the jury reached a verdict is the verdict unanimous in the case of the state of florida versus
39:14zachary ray abel we the jury find as follows as to count one of the indictment first-degree murder
39:20the defendant is guilty of the lesser included offense of second-degree murder
39:26they came back with guilty on a second-degree murder which was a one degree less than what
39:33he was charged with but they ultimately ended up sentencing him to life in prison i felt life in
39:38prison was a justifiable sentence for the type of beating that eileen sidon received
39:46the verdict was second-degree murder which is the same criminal charge that christina had
39:55pled to while christina did not have a set term that she pled guilty to was open-ended that judge
40:05sensed her to 25 years christina should have had the same sentence as zach the plea deal is basically
40:13her turning against him when the whole time she was fighting my sister for him
40:22so it doesn't make sense obviously it's convenient and lazy just a black heart
40:31there was a service put together on the beach in miami they brought sunflowers and they put them out
40:40on display and they talked about their friendship with her i think they were stunned and shocked
40:48and many of them called to want to keep abreast of what had gone on sweet eileen i hear your laugh every
40:57day i see your face before i go to bed when i wake up that enormously big and beautiful smile that i
41:03admired so deeply will never be forgotten you are my best friend my safe place to talk to you about
41:11anything you never fall short of making me laugh and warming up my heart you were taken from me from
41:17all of us everyone loved you dearly you're unbroken i was kept in the loop and i attended via facetime i
41:25i couldn't physically be there in order for me to survive
41:33in a in a mental health capacity i had to protect myself as much as i could i'm alone so my parents
41:40aren't here i don't have a lot of family support if anything i needed to grieve on my own a lot of it is a blur
41:55a case in this extreme you think about all the time it's been years now since the case has been
42:02completed the thought of exactly how they left her body the things that they did to her in that motel
42:10room it stays with you it's something you won't forget satanic satanic i just can't believe how you
42:18could do that torture her i mean words can't express i miss not being able to like see her
42:28like be an adult and having us like have an adult relationship and seeing her like really flourish in
42:37her career so i miss i miss that i miss that i can't you know have that but i can't i don't
42:47have my sister anymore
