Winter Olympic hopefuls prepare for 2026 Games in Italy

Australia may be known for its beaches and summer weather, but snow sports athletes are doing their part to put the country on the map. Our reporters have been following the Winter Olympic hopefuls as they train in the lead up to the 2026 games in Italy.

00:12I probably haven't had a full summer since I was like 13, which is kind of crazy.

00:18The Olympic bronze medalist knows what is needed for athletic greatness, but Aussie

00:23athletes often face challenges that their European counterparts don't.

00:27They grow up in these towns that are like five minutes from the hill.

00:32Many snow athletes base themselves here in Jindabyne every Aussie winter.

00:37They're currently training to score a spot at the Winter Olympic Games in Italy next year.

00:43With a limited winter season, the $12 million National Snow Sports Training Centre in Jindabyne

00:48is helping athletes stay on home soil for longer.

00:52We get basically an extra three months being able to stay in our own country and train.

00:57With all the amazing resources.

01:00But even the best laid preparation doesn't always go to plan.

01:04Daisy Thomas suffered an injury while competing in China last week.

01:09She is currently undergoing medical assessments.

01:13After claiming four medals at the last Olympics, the team wants to put Australia on the map.

01:18It's amazing the level of talent that we have here in Australia and they're punching above

01:23their weight for sure.
