ICC prosecutor says Putin arrest warrant won't disappear even if Ukraine peace talks succeed

The Kremlin has repeatedly said that it doesn't recognise the jurisdiction of the court and considers the warrant null and void.

00:00The Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has said the court's investigation into Russian President Vladimir Putin and the invasion of Ukraine can't be halted by peace talks.
00:12Negotiators and officials from the U.S., Ukraine and Russia have held multiple meetings in recent weeks to discuss a potential peace deal to end Russia's full-scale invasion.
00:22Peace and justice can march together and many would argue that justice is not possible or peace is not possible without justice.
00:30That there must be the possibility of accountability in order for peace to be enduring, to be sustainable.
00:37So that is, I think, one of the really important discussions we heard in the context of the Rome Statute when it was being negotiated.
00:43I think it's a very important concept.
00:45While a peace deal can't automatically stop the court's jurisdiction, the United Nations Security Council could ask the court to defer the case where it feels there is room for a peace agreement, but it would only be a temporary stop.
00:57The ICC has issued arrest warrants for Putin and five others over their alleged involvement in war crimes in Ukraine.
