The "Old Town Road" rapper and the actor appeared together on a recent episode of HBO's 'The Shop: Uninterrupted.'
Transcript
00:00Lil Nas X and Kevin Hart shared a tense moment during HBO's The Shop Uninterrupted
00:14when discussing the rapper's decision to come out so publicly at the height of his success.
00:19Nas X broke out with his hit Old Town Road, which is now the longest charting No. 1 in
00:23the history of Billboard's Hot 100, and on Tuesday's episode, marketing executive Paul
00:27Rivera asked the rapper why he felt it was important to make an announcement with his
00:31success, but before Nas X got a chance to answer, Hart interrupted the conversation.
00:36And with all that early success, you felt it was important to make an announcement recently?
00:41He said he was gay, so what?
00:42The rapper explained that growing up, he was taught to quote, hate that shit, but once again,
00:46Hart interrupted.
00:48I'm grown, I'm grown up to hate that shit. I'm not supposed to ever like this.
00:53Hate what? Hate what?
00:54Homosexuality, gay people, come on now.
00:57When the comedian continued asking the rapper, why are you growing up to hate it, Nas X simply
01:02replied, if you're really from the hood, you know.
01:05Some on social media found it ironic that Hart was questioning the rapper on the hate the
01:09gay community faces considering the comedian himself was asked to step down from hosting
01:14the Oscars over homophobic tweets. Hart tweeted at one time that one of his biggest fears is
01:19his son growing up to be gay and tweeted that he would break a dollhouse over his son's head
01:23if he discovered him playing with a toy.
01:26Writer Philip Henry wrote, Kevin Hart acting like he doesn't know why Lil Nas X would be
01:30scared to come out is like someone who stole the thing you lost helping you look for it.
01:34Another fan tweeted, Kevin Hart acting like it's no big deal when he's been part of and
01:39contributed to the homophobic culture in that community is f***ing baffling.
01:43Later in the episode Nas X explains he didn't come out for attention, instead he revealed his
01:48sexual orientation to let fans know that it was irrelevant to his music.
