00:00If we do this, we'll be heroes forever.
00:05Netflix's Bright may not have received shining reviews among movie critics,
00:10but the streaming giant's pricey feature film has at least found a silver lining with viewers.
00:14The film had a stellar opening weekend on the platform, per Nielsen MediaStats.
00:18An average 11 million U.S. Netflix subscribers watched the David Ayer fantasy drama
00:23over its first three days on the streaming service, a long weekend that included a busy Christmas Eve.
00:28Between December 22 and 24, a young and male-skewing audience tuned in for one of the streamer's
00:34biggest feature film releases to date, one that cost them a reported $90 million.
00:39Of the 11 million people who've already watched Bright, 7 million fell into the younger demo
00:44of adults 18 to 49. 56 percent of the total audience was male.
00:48The perceived success of Bright comes after a near-universal panning from critics.
00:52The Will Smith and Joel Edgerton fantasy cop drama currently boasts a dismal 28 percent
00:57on Rotten Tomatoes, and an equally disappointing 29 out of 100 on Metacritic.
01:02The Hollywood Reporter's critic, John DeFore, called the film embarrassing.
01:07I need you to take your fat, Shrek-looking ass back the fuck home to Fiona!
01:13Alright?
01:15Now, there's no comparison with the holiday box office, since a ticket to Bright required
01:20little more than a click of an Apple TV remote. But it's worth noting that the movie fell far short of Netflix's
01:25biggest TV entry of the last few months. Stranger Things 2 saw more than 15 million viewers
01:30tune in to its premiere over the same period of time.
01:33Still, it's worth a reminder that both those stats are likely underestimates.
01:37Nielsen currently only measures Netflix usage over traditional TVs, losing the many viewers
01:41tuning in on desktop and mobile.
01:43So, I want to know, did you watch Bright on Netflix over the holidays?
01:46If so, be sure to leave your review in the comments.
