00:00Listen to me. We are going on the trip now. It's going to be rough.
00:06Hold on!
00:08Even if you haven't watched it yet, you've likely heard and seen the memes about
00:12Netflix's apocalyptic survival tale starring Sandra Bullock, Bird Box.
00:16So, just how many people have watched the movie?
00:19Well, the numbers are in, and according to the new Nielsen SVOD content ratings,
00:23Bird Box attracted almost 26 million viewers in the U.S. during its first seven days on Netflix.
00:29The film debuted on December 21st. According to the Nielsen research,
00:33the highest single day of viewing came in on Day 8, December 28th,
00:37when the average minute audience for the movie was nearly 3.9 million U.S. viewers,
00:42which Nielsen said was a very atypical event and likely attributable to the extraordinary buzz around the movie.
00:49If you hear something in the woods, you tell me.
00:52As for who's been watching, Nielsen said that more than half the film's audience was female.
00:57It also was relatively young, with the highest concentration of viewers, 36 percent,
01:02between the ages of 18 and 34. And almost half the audience, 46 percent,
01:07was either African American or Hispanic.
01:09But under no circumstance are you allowed to take off your blindfold.
01:14Now, Netflix itself is notoriously secret about its viewership numbers,
01:18but the streaming giant had earlier tweeted that Bird Box posted the best seven-day showing
01:23for a Netflix film to date, saying that more than 45 million accounts worldwide checked out the movie.
01:28Netflix later explained that accounts had to watch at least 70 percent of the movie to be counted,
01:34but didn't say how many viewers those 45 million accounts represented.
