00:00I'm Tom Morris, Jr., and this is Fugitives Caught on Tape.
00:22Let's get into it.
00:23This guy has no regard for anybody else on the road.
00:26Stop the car!
00:32Stop the boat!
00:33Get down the ground now.
00:36Get down!
00:37Stop moving!
00:42First up, we're in Tarzana, California,
00:54where state troopers are in pursuit of a suspect in a reportedly stolen RV who's driving recklessly on local roads.
01:04Earlier, an L.A. County Sheriff's deputy spotted a seemingly unoccupied RV parked near the end of a dead-end street.
01:12He ran the plate, and when it came back as stolen, he called for backup.
01:16But just as help arrived, the RV suddenly started moving, and the driver refused to stop for the officers and fled the scene.
01:24Soon, multiple California Highway Patrol troopers joined the pursuit, as the suspect began driving dangerously.
01:33The driver manages to pull away and then cuts across traffic into a residential area.
01:45He's going the wrong way, Nashville Street.
01:48Copy wrong way in the residential area.
01:51As a local news station's helicopter picks up the chase, the RV blows through a stop sign.
01:57It's going to blow through the red at laughing.
01:58And several red lights, leading to some very close calls.
02:03Oh, s**t!
02:06We're heading south forward, we're going to a red light.
02:08The RV then briefly enters a parking lot.
02:11We're heading to a commercial lot.
02:17It's in North Ridge Mall.
02:20But as the suspect exits the lot.
02:26And he peeked into a tree.
02:29As the RV makes this wide left turn, it slams into a tree,
02:33which tears apart the side of the vehicle and rips off the front bumper.
02:40He peeked into a tree.
02:41He's still going.
02:42He peeked into a tree.
02:43I'm moving.
02:43I'm still in the parking lot.
02:45Yeah, we're going to head out on Tampa.
02:46Shout out Tampa.
02:49He lost the entire front end.
02:51I think it was a tree or something.
02:53He's still going.
02:54In addition to the front bumper and side wreckage,
02:58RV's windshield has been completely destroyed.
03:01And as the chase continues, additional debris falls off the vehicle.
03:07Officers then spot an unsecured dog in the front seat with the driver,
03:12sticking its head out of the badly damaged RV.
03:16And then...
03:18An animal just fell out of the vehicle.
03:21It looks like a dog on the south side of the street.
03:23A dog just fell out of the vehicle.
03:25And before long, another dog is seen sitting up front with the driver.
03:30Then, as the RV emerges from this overpass...
03:35And Major T.C., which is a 101 off-ramp at Tampa.
03:39Suspect is going to be in Southbound.
03:42The RV violently collides with another vehicle.
03:46But somehow manages to continue as one of the troopers pulls over to check on the crash victim.
03:52And less than a minute later...
03:55All right, suspect, just T.C., Major T.C. with the second vehicle.
04:01You can't keep coming to Southbound Tampa.
04:04Suspect just hit a car and crashed into a tree.
04:07With the second dog still sticking its head out the front,
04:10the RV slams into another vehicle and then into a tree.
04:15As troopers pull up, they spot the suspect and a dog fleeing on foot.
04:30Troopers quickly exit their vehicles and grab the suspect as she attempts to hop a fence.
04:35The suspect, 52-year-old Julie Ann Rainbird, suffered minor injuries
04:59and was taken to a hospital for treatment before being arrested.
05:03The victim of the final crash suffered serious injuries,
05:07including a punctured lung, broken ribs, and a spinal fracture.
05:11He was taken to a hospital and treated.
05:14The first dog, named Onyx, who jumped out of the RV,
05:18suffered abrasions to his front left and back paws.
05:22The second dog, Starlet, who stayed by Rainbird's side,
05:25suffered minor injuries, including bleeding from its paw.
05:30Both dogs received treatment for their injuries
05:32and were initially taken by animal control.
05:35Later, they were both adopted by a family in the state of Oregon.
05:40Rainbird was hit with 18 total charges,
05:43including hit and run, animal cruelty, DUI,
05:48assault with a deadly weapon, and fleeing.
05:51She took a deal and was convicted of those five charges.
05:54The remaining charges were dismissed
05:56and Rainbird was never charged for auto theft.
06:00She served eight years, eight months in prison,
06:03and upon her release, Rainbird was banned for life
06:06from driving a vehicle.
06:11Next, we're in Fayette County, Georgia,
06:14where police are in pursuit of an armed fugitive
06:16who they say allegedly kidnapped an employee
06:20at a fast food restaurant.
06:21Earlier, Fayetteville PD got a 911 call.
06:26I need a police at, uh, Green Stopping Fayette Hill.
06:31Don't get in the car,
06:32if you're not in the car.
06:33Wait, Southern Fayetteville?
06:35Yes, please, this is an emergency.
06:37Don't get in the car.
06:38What's going on there?
06:39Making her get in his car.
06:42After the suspect bled with the employee,
06:44police arrived on the scene
06:46and spoke with the restaurant manager.
06:48All right, what happened?
06:50So, the guy came in,
06:52and when she saw him,
06:54she pulled me to the side,
06:55and she was like,
06:55remember my ex-boyfriend I was telling you about?
06:57He just came in.
06:59And I was like, where is he?
07:00So, because I wanted to, you know,
07:01because she looked frightened.
07:03That's when he walked back from here,
07:06and I was like, excuse me,
07:06you can't come back here.
07:07And he pushed past me and walked up to her,
07:10and she started screaming.
07:11She's like, he got a gun, he got a gun.
07:13And I heard him cock the gun, grab her arm,
07:15and he walked her out with the gun at her side like this
07:18and walked her out the front door.
07:20Police ID the suspect
07:22as 20-year-old Cameron Jemichael Hopkins,
07:25the employee's ex-boyfriend.
07:27And this was not the first time
07:29he'd been accused of this.
07:31A year earlier, according to court records,
07:33Hopkins was arrested after dragging the same woman
07:36out of a vehicle at gunpoint,
07:39forcing her into his vehicle and fleeing.
07:41He was charged with making terroristic threats,
07:44kidnapping, and other crimes
07:46before being released on a $162,000 bond.
07:51Now, dispatch relays info to officers on duty.
07:55So there should be a black male,
07:57breast like 5'5", short hair,
07:58wearing a black shirt, black jacket, black jeans,
08:01females wearing black tights and a black queen stuff shirt.
08:04And it's not long before Clayton County Officer
08:06Jacob Collins spots the vehicle
08:08driving through this intersection.
08:1012-56, something behind that Camaro
08:12going down the bank truck.
08:14Passing the over, trying to take her here.
08:16Officer Collins attempts a traffic stop,
08:19but the suspect speeds away.
08:21Yeah, he's not stopping.
08:22Speeds, climbing to 70,
08:24coming up on McDonough Road, no traffic.
08:27Taking a left on McDonough Road.
08:3012-might, clear the pit.
08:32There, step four, you get it.
08:33As the chase continues, the fugitive increases his speed.
08:38Speed, 5 to 95.
08:40And begins driving recklessly.
08:42Well, he's on the wrong side of the road.
08:44We've got in and out of traffic.
08:45We've now over 100, about 105.
08:48As the suspect approaches a center median,
08:51he runs into trouble.
08:54He's just hit the median.
08:55He's probably going to go flat right towards him.
08:56The damage slows the fugitive's car,
08:59and Officer Collins catches up
09:02just as he makes this turn.
09:03It looks like he's turning into this high school here.
09:10The pit maneuver is a success,
09:12as it brings the fugitive's vehicle to a halt.
09:15But then...
09:17Shots fired, shots fired.
09:21Hey, I'm behind you, I'm behind you.
09:23What is this?
09:24I don't know.
09:24As Collins and another officer take cover,
09:27the suspect continues shooting.
09:31As backup arrives,
09:34officers plan their next move.
09:36Hey, I'm going to pop him for three out of three.
09:38I'm going to pop this back window.
09:39All right.
09:40Try to get a visual.
09:41Look out.
09:42Less lethal.
09:43Less lethal!
09:44Less lethal!
09:44Using less lethal projectiles,
09:47officers shoot out the suspect's back window.
09:49And then fire a chemical irritant into the car
09:54in hopes of forcing him out.
09:57Show us your hands!
09:57Hey, I see something coming up the front.
09:59Put your hands up the window!
10:01Hey, let me see your hands!
10:03Your hands!
10:05I see his hands in the back window.
10:08Keep your hands rocking sound!
10:10Keep your hands at the window!
10:12Eventually, the fugitive emerges from the vehicle.
10:15He's coming out?
10:16No, I got this ****.
10:18I'm out.
10:19I'm coming with the shield.
10:20Come out!
10:20Come out the car!
10:23Come out the window!
10:25I knew you heard that!
10:26Mike, let me get you water from the house.
10:28No!
10:28No!
10:29Come out of the car and we can help you.
10:31Step out.
10:31Step out.
10:32Keep your hands up and just step out.
10:33We can help her.
10:34There you go.
10:35Step out.
10:35Step out.
10:36On the ground.
10:36On the ground.
10:37On the ground.
10:38No, get on the **** ground.
10:41Crawl to us.
10:42Crawl to us.
10:44Crawl to us.
10:45The suspect complies and crawls toward officers.
10:50After he's cuffed, they check his car, where they find the woman unresponsive.
10:55She'd been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
11:01The suspect's weapon was found inside the vehicle.
11:04Where's the gun at?
11:05There's a gun on the passenger floorboard.
11:06All right.
11:07Officers gave the suspect water for his burning eyes before transporting him to Clayton County
11:12Jail.
11:14Hopkins was charged with murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated stalking, possession
11:21of a weapon, and other charges.
11:23If convicted, he could be facing the death penalty.
11:26Next, we're in Washington County, Florida, where a state trooper and two deputies are in pursuit
11:36of a suspect who fled from officers and is now driving on the wrong side of the road.
11:41Earlier, trooper Timothy Elmore was on patrol when he noticed this car with improper tinting
11:48on its side windows.
11:49When he checked the license plates, they came up as expired and registered to a different vehicle.
11:56Then, as trooper Elmore pulled up alongside the car, he says the driver crouched down as if trying
12:03to hide his face, so he initiated a traffic stop.
12:07But the suspect did not comply.
12:10He began driving dangerously, hitting speeds over 100 miles an hour, and traveling in the
12:16opposite lane of traffic, blowing through a stop sign, and making several illegal U-turns.
12:26Now, Washington County deputies Jeremy Anderson and Dustin Rogers, traveling in the same vehicle,
12:34join the pursuit as the suspect continues driving recklessly, nearly slamming head-on into oncoming
12:44cars.
12:47As the chase continues on local roads, trooper Elmore closes in, and the suspect suddenly slams
12:54on his brakes.
13:01The impact of the crash tears the rear bumper off the suspect's car.
13:06But he keeps going, and about a minute later, the fugitive hits his brakes again.
13:23Despite the suspect's evasive moves, the trooper manages to execute a successful pimp maneuver,
13:28which also disables the suspect's vehicle.
13:32But the fugitive refuses to give up.
13:39He runs across the road, hops a fence, and runs into a wooded area, as all three officers
13:52pursue.
13:59Less than a minute later, with the officers still in the woods, the fugitive hops back over
14:05the fence and runs up the road.
14:11The three officers return to their vehicles to plan their next move.
14:18The deputies get back in their cruiser and head toward a side road.
14:26As they turn onto the road, deputies spot the suspect hiding in the brush.
14:43The deputies apprehend the suspect and drive him back to the crash site, where backup has
14:56arrived.
14:57What's your last name?
15:06Daniel.
15:07The suspect, 35-year-old Alex Daniel, has a criminal history, including a conviction
15:12for aggravated battery.
15:13Yeah, bro, why are you accepting me, bro?
15:14Your windows are too dark for starters.
15:15Your tags been expiring since January of 2024.
15:16How about that?
15:17Yes, sir.
15:18How about them apples, buddy?
15:19Thanks, bro.
15:20I gotta throw up really, really bad, bro.
15:21All right, that's it.
15:22Like, my mouth's water, like, I don't want to throw up in the car, bro.
15:35I don't want to throw up in your car, bro.
15:37Oh, .
15:42Guess I just got two over here.
15:45Oh, .
15:47During a search of Daniel's vehicle, officers found approximately one gram of
15:51methamphetamine and a loaded GLOP pistol magazine.
15:56He was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing, aggravated battery on an officer,
16:01possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance, and other
16:06charges.
16:07These new charges were combined with four other cases, and Daniel pled no contest to a host
16:13of charges, including battery, fleeing, drug and weapons possession, and other charges.
16:19He was sentenced to four years in prison, with credit for 166 days served.
16:29Next, we are in Tampa, Florida, where local PD and highway patrol are engaged in the high-speed
16:36pursuit of a man wanted for battery on a law enforcement officer.
16:42Earlier, police say the suspect fled from a traffic stop.
16:49And after running his plate, they discovered that the driver, 28-year-old Travis Lee Craig,
16:55had multiple active warrants for several crimes, included aggravated battery on a law enforcement
17:01officer, driving while license revoked, and reckless driving.
17:05Now, the department's aviation unit joins officers on the ground in pursuit of the fugitive.
17:12He's cutting in out of traffic northbound with a signal-18 challenger that fled.
17:16Dear guard.
17:18As he drives recklessly across multiple counties, Tampa PD reached out to the Florida Highway Patrol
17:24for support.
17:25I'm trying to see if I can get an F-E-S-P.
17:28Yeah, I think they already called for it.
17:30Okay.
17:31High rate of speed, far left lane.
17:34Still northbound, 75.
17:35Passing mile marker 311.
17:37I see him.
17:38Yeah.
17:39He looks single-12 northbound.
17:41As the chase continues, and traffic begins to thicken, a third trooper chases the fugitive
17:48along this emergency lane.
17:51You can hear me.
17:54This is the center lane going into the left lane behind a red pickup truck.
17:57Mile marker at 338.
17:59Bye-bye.
18:00Speed is 140.
18:05Traffic water.
18:06And all the way to the right, right here over now.
18:10Suddenly, about 30 minutes into the pursuit, the suspect loses control of the car and drives
18:16off the side of the road near a tree line.
18:19Here we go.
18:20Okay, the car on here.
18:22The suspect gets out of the car and runs into the woods.
18:26What's going on here?
18:28I'm trying to get my truck.
18:29We're in the grass now.
18:31Bailing, bailing, bailing.
18:32Bailing, bailing.
18:33Bailing, bailing.
18:34Bailing, bailing.
18:35Bailing, bailing.
18:36Bailing, bailing.
18:37Bailing, bailing.
18:38Yeah, the vehicle mailed into the ditch and the driver only occupant.
18:42He got all branded through the woods.
18:43Very sick.
18:44But several things were branded after him.
18:47Move, mother .
18:49Get down, mother .
18:51Stop!
18:53I don't need you!
18:55Move!
18:56Move!
18:57The five-county chase finally comes to an end as the fugitive surrenders and officers
19:04walk him out of the woods.
19:06Can we confirm if they are 10-15?
19:08My handcuffs are on.
19:09I don't need you.
19:10I'm trying.
19:11I'm sorry.
19:12During a search of the vehicle, officers found a red handgun on the passenger side floorboard
19:28and 13 9mm rounds.
19:31Craig was taken to the Sumter County Jail and charged with felony fleeing or attempting to
19:36elude, driving while license suspended, weapons possession, DUI, and other charges.
19:43He pled no contest to the first three charges and the remaining charges were dropped.
19:49Craig was sentenced to seven years in prison with credit for 304 days served plus one-year
19:56license revocation and fine.
