Did Vrabel just say the word "Champions"? Does Wiggy mind Vrabel using that word, already? Wiggy: "He talks with this swagger and attitude like, we are good... but pump the brakes" Curtis: "Best hire this city has had, maybe since Belichick"
Transcript
00:00for the bye week and bringing up the c-word i mean i guess i i nothing i can criticize when it
00:08comes to head coach of this football no but um do you want do you mind him using that word or
00:13yeah because if you listen to vrabel talk and this is i think what you know makes him so
00:20successful as a head coach and i think this is what makes head coaches successful is he talks
00:26with this swaggering attitude of like
00:30we're good but pump the brakes if we want to be champions we got to do this we got to do that
00:39and like and i think a lot of players hear that and the ones that are being coached by him go
00:45oh this guy would know better than anybody champions are never satisfied former player
00:50was on the dynasty played with tom brady right and they're like and he talks with this like
00:56this this this swagger of like yeah you're good but you're not that good like let's come back down
01:03to earth and i i really when i heard that i was like that was inspiring to me make me want to do
01:07something yeah i think that what brabel has been able to do is work with the modern athlete regarding
01:14not to be too negative the way he was coached when he was a football player while also not allowing them
01:22to think they can take a shortcut right and he has as wiki alluded to it the most credibility anybody
01:29could possibly have he was able to extract the most from the greatest player in the history of the
01:34sport those patriots teams i mean i they're not on disney plus anymore but there was these man in the
01:40arena episodes where every super bowl season brady would have two former teammates they would talk
01:45about what made it unique and all that and there was one with vrabel and he just spoke chapter and
01:51verse about nothing they did before was going to have them win again in fact the more winning they
01:56did the harder it would be to keep winning what while people today think the more you win the easier
02:01it is yeah it's counterintuitive but i i could listen to him and the way in which he discusses this
02:06team like i he's the best hire this city has had maybe since belichick was acquired the first time
02:14whoa really better than doc better than missoula better than monty or alex cora cora or any of
02:20those guys i mean billy o'brien at bc is probably number two but uh i i just think there has never
02:27been someone who was more built to be the coach of this team at this at this time than vrabel is and
02:33he's eliminated any kind of nonsense like there's nobody on this team who is uh doing an interview and
02:41suggesting that they had they have the best hands in the nfl and need the football more think about
02:46all the instagram posts think about all the discipline that they had doing and still last
02:50year think about the head coach walking back everything he told us but there's been none
02:55absolutely none of that it was chaos because he has that he has that past what uh parcels in him
03:00because if somebody like if somebody said oh they got the best hands vrabel would go up to him in the
03:06middle of practice like after he dropped the ball and would like like how he says bust his chops about
03:11oh how great are your hands like that has that swagger of like you're bringing guys back down to earth
03:18don't tell me about it show me the more he talks it seems even crazier that he wasn't coaching for a
03:25year that somebody didn't hire him the more he speaks the more he does it is unbelievable to me that
03:31another nfl team did not sign him in that year that he was off he was on the browns coaching staff
03:36they said we're good with kevin stefanski it's insane it really is unless we're not being told
03:42that there was a wink and a nod you know long ago in the owner's box here and he had already hired
03:49gerard mayo and had like a five-year contract right you told amazon you knew he was going to be great
03:54that doesn't mean the plan was going to be variable because you could have just signed variable instead of
03:58promoting mayo and then you asked but they had they had made the mistake of promising that job
04:04to gerard mayo yeah so that and because of that mistake that's why i don't think there was some
04:08kind of wink and a nod right and that's why it is just insane to me that another nfl team didn't look
04:13at mike vrabel and go yeah we need that guy in our building could you imagine him in an interview
04:16setting right like he's i know the the fact that he would sit down and not wow you or tell you that
04:22he's the guy to do it is shocking and the thing that that you know from talking to him when when
04:26when you he was asked about you know firing or other jobs i can't remember what the question was
04:31where he was like listen i or maybe he's asked about going to college i asked him if he ever was
04:36considering to go back to ohio state and he was like listen i was i would have gone anywhere i'm
04:40you know obviously that's why i think coaches want that especially if you've been a head coach
04:44you're looking for that next opportunity it seemed like if there was a like say the penn state job was
04:50available last year at this time and they went to vrabel and said hey we would love to have you
04:56here he would probably have went there because he would have he said like i was looking to go
05:00wherever and the fact that there were nfl teams out there that were in need of coaches like whether
05:05it was the atlanta falcons whether it was the new york jets and decided to go with other guys rather
05:11than just this season in a vacuum not what anybody's done prior who are who would you take over mike
05:18vrabel as your head coach right now that they're currently coaching in the nfl
05:22just sean mcveigh yeah that's it i would say that's it mcveigh would be the only one andy reed
05:27no andy reed looks like lost yeah he looks like he lost his fastball yeah you can only read a menu
05:32yeah he like he i love kyle shanahan but like i just i think my what mike vrabel brings is far more
05:37important yeah i would say i would agree with shy sean mcveigh um well let the record show on monday
05:44i'm gonna tell vrabel that wiggy wants mcveigh ben johnson no uh i love ben johnson yeah i don't
05:50love him in the offseason i wanted him here originally i would be happy with ben johnson i
05:54think what he's doing in chicago shows that he can do it with a team that is kind of wonky but like
05:59i don't know what my what mike vrabel says he does is there's nobody on the there's nobody on the
06:04planet i would want coaching this team more than mike vrabel right now nobody vrabel's the vrabel is the
06:10is the guy for me and if you had to hold a gun to my head and said all right you can't have vrabel
06:15who would i want i would probably go mcveigh second yeah and i and i think they're like i don't think
06:19there's anybody close to those two i like andy reed doesn't he look and this might be the hard thing
06:25for older coaches that are trying to get back into it and when i say older coaches guys in their late
06:3060s you know in the case of look at p carol p carol and bill belichick in their 70s it looks like
06:37he's like he's disconnected when you see nailed it when you see andy reed he just looks disconnected
06:44from the guys playing today how he wants to do things i don't know he's been the victim of elder
06:51abuse on the sidelines that's probably what he's afraid of like five years ago he was one of the
06:56more innovative offensive minds in football and now his offense just looks like stale and bland and
07:02there's no running attack it is just it feels even defensively like spagnolo is what a four-time
07:09super bowl champion defensive coordinator his defense does not look like it has the teeth that
07:14it has had in years past and it's not players i think a couple couple seasons ago dan campbell was
07:21the soup du jour yeah that's kind of falling off and now that he like can't get an offensive
07:26coordinator he's back to calling plays and you know it's like maybe ben johnson was better than
07:32people thought and and and they might be a team and i'm not saying they could miss the playoffs
07:36chime and i were talking about uh uh this tonight's game dallas detroit yeah it's gonna have a lot of
07:42like staying power in the n in the nfc because the detroit lions i believe they're seven and five so if
07:48they lose they're seven and six and you know and then they get the rams next week yeah so it's kind
07:52of you start to look at that and you go wait a second you know they're imagine that the vikings and
07:58the lions are chasing the bears yeah but this is what happens the patriots dealt dealt with this
08:04when they were winning the lions lost both coordinators yeah you saw the eagles the brief
08:08sort of issues they had early last year when they lost their coordinators the year before like
08:12dan campbell i'm sure is you know a great motivator and all that but you lose glenn and you lose ben
08:17johnson that's a lot and doesn't doesn't that show you how valuable josh mcdaniels is yeah
08:21yes don't say that around shine but yeah yeah
