00:00Much of Liverpool's north docks has been a stretch of waterfront many people pass by but
00:05seldom think of. A reminder as Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotherham puts it of the
00:10jobs and opportunities we lost after decades of post-industrial decline. Now leaders believe
00:16this is the moment that changes. Steve Rotherham has announced plans to fast-track regeneration
00:21across 174 hectares of mainly brownfield lands along the River Mersey. The area sits close to
00:28the new Hill Dickinson Stadium and the Mayor says the momentum created by Everton's move is helping
00:33to turn long-held ambitions into a workable plan. To deliver it he's establishing a mayoral development
00:39corporation a statutory body with powers to coordinate development and infrastructure.
00:44The Mayor says he will work closely with the Liverpool City Council to deliver 17,500 homes
00:50and 5 million square feet of commercial space over the next 15 years. Mr Rotherham describes
00:56Liverpool's waterfront as one of the greatest assets in the country and says local people have waited
01:02far too long to see this part of the city brought back to life. He points the transformation of the
01:07Albert Dock as an example of how a bold long-term vision can reshape an area and attract new visitors.
01:13The announcement follows a 700 million pounds evolved housing settlement for the region. The Secretary of
01:20State for Housing Steve Reid says the government wants mayors to have more powers to create jobs,
01:26better connect communities and to get homes built, adding that regional renewal is something local
01:32people will really feel. It's hoped this move will bring the tools to ensure regeneration happens faster,
01:38benefits local communities and drive sustainable growth across the wider city region.
