Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate, Dr. Amery Browne, is speaking out after he and his family were threatened online.

Browne is pointing fingers at a UNC supporter and is urging public officials — including the Prime Minister — to curb reckless rhetoric that fuels division and hatred.

00:00Recounting the online threats leveled against him, leader of opposition business in the Senate, Dr. Emory Brown alleges the person responsible is a supporter of the UNC.
00:11Both myself and my family received direct death threats from one of the UNC's fanatical supporters.
00:20It's been reported in the media and incidentally that individual, I understand, is employed in a government division.
00:31When asked if he was satisfied with the police's swift action in apprehending and charging the suspect, Brown says his concern runs deeper.
00:40I don't know if the question is whether I'm satisfied with the police action.
00:45The fact is that it's in the public domain that charges have been brought.
00:51I said right at the beginning that let the law take its course.
00:56And my bigger concern is, to be frank with you, my bigger concern is the politics of hate and division and the narrative that is being advanced.
01:13Some of it seems to be imported from abroad, which is serving to polarize the society and possibly radicalize individuals even more than before.
01:26He said state authorities have a duty to moderate their statements and promote unity.
01:31Some of our public officials, and I really want to say the Prime Minister specifically, has a responsibility to moderate her language.
01:44There were examples given by MP Imbert and others and myself during this media conference, where the Prime Minister seems to be going down a road of very reckless rhetoric, aggressive language, wild accusations without substance.
02:04Brown singled out the Prime Minister for her role in fueling polarization.
02:09The Prime Minister has been negligent in that regard and from some of her output has been, in my view, feeding this polarization within the society.
