Northern Territory police have extradited a man from Victoria after charging him with the murder of his partner near Darwin, five years ago.

00:00In handcuffs and flanked by police, Peter Scammell had nothing to say as he was escorted through
00:08Darwin Airport.
00:09Peter, were you shocked by the charges?
00:12Are you going to fight the charges in court?
00:15Mr Scammell was the last passenger off the commercial flight, landing at midday today.
00:21The 44-year-old padded down, then put into a waiting police van.
00:25Mr Scammell is charged with murdering his partner, Katrina Hawker.
00:30A 43-year-old nurse at Royal Darwin Hospital at the time, who was found dead in the backyard
00:35of their Bakewell home five years ago.
00:38The cause of death was put down to an overdose from the combined effects of alcohol and temazepam,
00:45a sleeping medication, and no arrests were made at the time.
00:49But at an inquest last year, NT coroner Elizabeth Armitage said she believed it was unlikely
00:55Ms Hawker had taken her own life and referred the case back to police and the Director of
01:00Public Prosecutions for further investigation.
01:03Mr Scammell was arrested in Victoria last week.
01:07He's expected to face a judge in Darwin Local Court tomorrow.
