Police Interceptors S24E09 (24th November 2025)
Transcript
00:00This is Police Interceptors, and you're riding with the pride of Northamptonshire.
00:12Ace Pursuit drivers, with air support, and a crack dog unit.
00:24They bring down the bad guys, keep the streets safe, and battle 24-7 in the war on crime.
00:45Crash, crash.
00:52Coming up, a slippery customer in Corby,
00:59throws up a few problems.
01:05A smash, a bash, reveals the stash to the Op Revive team.
01:13When suspected burglars bail out, Lucy and Bryn go to work.
01:20It's the last gasp of Monday, and Aaron Griff Griffiths is on the hunt for a silver golf.
01:40Got it, I think.
01:446-1, I might have got it in the Corby Old village, standby.
01:49The golf's been seen previously in another county, with balaclava-clad figures on board, who are suspected of numerous car thefts.
01:57I'm unmarked, very slow driving, standby.
02:02Griff's in the unmarked Beamer 340, so anyone in the golf won't know there's an interceptor on their tail.
02:09How many occupants?
02:12I think it's two.
02:15And he can direct the cavalry without spooking the suspect.
02:19It's not aware of my presence.
02:21We're caught in the road out of the old village.
02:25I'm not going to make an attempt to stop it.
02:27We'll wait for TPAC mobiles and other resources.
02:29The plan is to box the golf and two TPAC units arrive.
02:36I will take over from you, mate.
02:38I'll take you through this roundabout.
02:40I've got you.
02:41I've got you.
02:43I've got six squawed, TPAC mobile, the line of vehicle on the roundabout.
02:48With James and Lockie taking over as the lead car and a firearms unit behind them.
02:55Offside indication.
02:57And it's right, right, right.
02:59It's going to the road.
03:01Griff plans his next move.
03:07Suss out if I can get ahead of it, but I think I can.
03:12As well as being an advanced driver, Griff's stinger-trained.
03:15And he's going to lay down a bed of spikes for the golf.
03:19Going back towards Turner Road, in that direction anyway.
03:22Trying to get a stinger out, stand by.
03:31It's all about predicting the suspect's route.
03:35At junction weight.
03:38But unfortunately, the golf's driver hasn't read the script.
03:41Vehicle's increased his speed slightly.
03:43Wrong side.
03:45I'm going to assume it's a bit aware of your presence now.
03:49Yeah, okay, so vehicle is now going to stop, mate, stop.
03:52That way.
03:54That way.
03:55The golf's taken off and the pursuit is on.
03:58It's going that way.
03:59Yeah, please fight for...
04:02...approaching Oakley Road.
04:05Wait.
04:06As Griff please catch up.
04:07Right, right, right.
04:08Up Oakley Road.
04:09Up Oakley Road.
04:15In the lead car, James and Rocky are all over the runaway.
04:19Yeah, speed 5-4.
04:22Risk is low.
04:24The suspect driver's not exactly Lewis Hamilton.
04:28Speed is low.
04:29Stand by.
04:30And it's left, left, left.
04:31Cecil drive.
04:33But the roads are too tight to box him in.
04:35Stinging his tyres is still their best bet, if they can pull it off.
04:40I reckon you've got a stinger bet.
04:43Though who needs tactics when your target's driving is this bad?
04:49Vehicle's here.
04:50Crash, crash, crash.
04:55The passengers legged it, but Locky goes for the driver.
04:59Right, right, right.
05:00Out car, out car now.
05:01Hey, right.
05:02Who's a bit of a change from your typical boy racer.
05:05Right, right, listen, I get it, I get it.
05:07I get it, I get it.
05:09Oh, all right.
05:10Put your hands out.
05:12Phone.
05:13Right, OK.
05:14Oh, my God.
05:15Do you have to do this?
05:16Yes.
05:17I didn't know what to do.
05:18Please.
05:19Give me either a hand.
05:20Oh, I didn't know she wanted it.
05:22Sorry.
05:24Phone need to stop.
05:25Wait, wait.
05:26No, you don't get it.
05:27Wait, please.
05:29Who's that?
05:30Who's that?
05:31What's his name?
05:32He asked me to...
05:33No, he asked me to let him in the car.
05:34I don't get it.
05:35What's his name?
05:36I don't know.
05:37I don't know.
05:38Listen.
05:39Trust me, please.
05:40I'm actually being serious.
05:41He got...
05:42He asked me for help, yeah?
05:43I can let him in the car.
05:44This is my friend's car, please.
05:46This is my friend's car.
05:47I feel sick.
05:48I'm going to be sick.
05:49Wait, please.
05:52Perhaps a car sickness was caused by the low speed skid.
05:58And while they deal with the driver...
06:00Which way?
06:01Griff keeps his eyes peeled for the passenger.
06:04But he's done one in the dark.
06:07He's gone into a field, play park, on a pedal cycle.
06:16He's long run.
06:17So he heads for the stacked golf.
06:19You okay?
06:20You good?
06:21You good?
06:22Yeah, yeah, we're good.
06:23She's in custom just to set it to the vehicle now.
06:27The intel on the car seems spot on.
06:30The passenger side took down the side of the seat.
06:37Got a black balaclava.
06:41So we've got balaclavas.
06:43We've got a tool at the moment.
06:45A little bit of cannabis.
06:46Bank card.
06:47So that's just from this front area here at the moment.
06:49So slowly clearing away through the vehicle.
06:52And see what else we can find.
06:55With cannabis in the car, they're going to do a drugs wipe on the driver.
06:59And they suspect she's under the influence of more than weed.
07:04Her purse down the driver's side.
07:08Sorry?
07:09Her purse down the driver's side.
07:11Got that inside.
07:12Okay.
07:13It's a small bag of white powder.
07:16I hope you get some evidence bags.
07:19You might need a few of those.
07:21What's that?
07:23Oh, that's right, yeah.
07:28Ah, it's, um...
07:30Oh, crap.
07:31Crack, innit?
07:32Yeah.
07:33The car is like a dodgy Aladdin's cave.
07:35I think we'll have a fence of weapon in a bag as well.
07:38What's that?
07:39Is that a ball in a sock?
07:40Yeah.
07:41Prison style, that, isn't it?
07:42That's in her handbag.
07:43I'm guessing a pool ball.
07:45Looking at that, it looks like it's the sort of size for a pool ball in a sock.
07:50Lockie's seen most things in his Interceptor career, but not this.
07:5418 years in the job, and you hear stories, but I've never come across a pool ball in a sock before.
08:02She's already been arrested for failing to stop, and the charges are starting to stack up.
08:08You'll now be further arrested for dangerous driving, driving without insurance,
08:12otherwise in accordance with a license, possession of class A, possession of class B, and possession of an offensive weapon at this time.
08:21So on the floor, we found this, which is, I'd suspect to be crack cocaine.
08:28You see it's quite shiny, and it's in rock form.
08:31That was found on the floor there, obviously next to the vehicle, and then inside the purse of the subject's been arrested.
08:37Got two, an empty bag, and a bag that's still got powder form substance, which I'd suspect to be cocaine, or could be amphetamine.
08:46And that's been found in the, in the purse.
08:51Yeah, a pot with quite a few buds of cannabis in.
08:55The drug's wipe result comes as no surprise.
08:59Cannabis and cocaine.
09:00The young suspect will have plenty to think about during her night in the cells, and it's a welcome, if slightly unexpected result for the team.
09:20Really tiny little girl.
09:23Yeah, it was a bit of a surprise.
09:25I think she was surprised to see us as well, judged by her reaction when we first got there and started dragging her out of the car.
09:30The male didn't want to hang around and speak to us, so there's enquiries ongoing as to who he is.
09:34But she's, she's got a lot of questions to answer in the morning.
09:39The driver pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and having no license or insurance.
09:43She received 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 24 months, and a 12 month driving ban.
09:52No further action was taken with regards to failing to stop, possession of drugs, the offensive weapon, or the alleged car thefts.
10:00However, for drug driving, she was banned for a further 20 months.
10:05The passenger is still a wanted man.
10:14Coming up.
10:16Five men went to mow down a cannabis farm.
10:19They're ready to pretty much harvest.
10:20A couple of weeks.
10:22What do you want?
10:23What are you?
10:24What do you want?
10:25And Lucy's faithful hound Bryn.
10:27Stay where you are now.
10:28Stay where you are.
10:29You've got me and hold him.
10:31Gets his teeth stuck in.
10:33Gets his teeth stuck in.
10:43In one month, English and Welsh police targeted cannabis grows run by organised crime groups, or OCGs.
10:56Police! Police! Police!
10:59Nearly 200,000 plants were seized with an estimated street value of between 115 and 130 million pounds.
11:08This is on an industrial level.
11:11Often these cannabis farms not only cause a blight on local communities, but also involve criminals exploiting vulnerable people.
11:19Literally their whole life is just looking after these cannabis farms.
11:22Intelligence suggests there's cannabis grows at two addresses in Rushton.
11:31The neighbourhood's team are tackling one, and the Operation Revive unit, including Connor and Brad, are heading to the other.
11:40So, we go in, and we can see, obviously, hopefully, lots of rooms of cannabis.
11:47One room where they live in, which will probably have a farmer who's normally an illegal immigrant, or someone who's been exploited inside.
11:56They'll probably be there, so they can be unpredictable, because they get told all sorts of rumours about the police,
12:01that when we go in we'll kill them, or subject them to serious violence, and whatever, so they can be very unpredictable.
12:07But it's not only angry farmers the team have to be on their guard for.
12:13We know that the OCGs that use these addresses will sometimes place electric wires so that we can get caught on them,
12:20or spikes, needles, trapdoors.
12:22They can get very creative, so, unlike our normal drugs, where we run in and get hung on people very quickly.
12:31Once we're in, we're going to go in a bit slower today, and just watch where we're going.
12:35Last year's nationwide crackdown saw Northamptonshire coppers carry out 21 search warrants on suspected weed farms and seize more than 5,000 cannabis plants.
12:49And though the team can't be sure the intel on this property is accurate, it smells promising.
12:55Yeah. Stinks of weed.
12:57We'll go to the Hoolibar then for the glass.
12:58Yeah.
13:02They use the Hoolibar first to remove the glass for their own safety.
13:15Glass cleared.
13:17They unleash the 16-kilo key that unlocks every door.
13:27Although this one's proving a tough nut to crack.
13:32Finally...
13:33Slow, slow, slow, slow, slow.
13:36Police! Police!
13:38They enter with caution in case of booby traps.
13:41I've got Parver out.
13:43Police!
13:44One in the address, gone back inside. Do you hear that?
13:46Yeah.
13:48Someone inside tried to make a run for it.
13:51Police! Come to the door!
13:53But the team has the rear covered and the runaway knows the game is up.
13:56Come to me! Now!
13:58Turn around!
13:59Turn around!
14:00Hands behind your back!
14:01Hands behind your back!
14:05Right, at the minute you're detained on the Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
14:09Adam, upstairs.
14:10Okay.
14:11Come this way.
14:12Police!
14:13This could be the farmer.
14:15And the search is on for any others.
14:18Check that room.
14:19Police!
14:20Show yourself!
14:21Police!
14:22Show yourself!
14:23Police!
14:26Right, how do you want to do it?
14:28Check that door first.
14:30Check that room. I'll stay out here.
14:32Doesn't look like there's anyone else home.
14:35Police! Show yourself!
14:36But they're still concerned about any nasty surprises.
14:40Don't touch the door handle yet.
14:42Satisfied it's safe, they draw back the curtain on this outfit.
14:45This isn't just a bit of homegrown.
14:46This isn't just a bit of homegrown.
14:54It's fine.
14:56Check there.
14:58And it's not just one room.
15:00Replant.
15:01This whole house has been converted into a sophisticated cannabis farm.
15:08Downstairs is one huge grow in the living room.
15:12On the top floor we've got three bedrooms full of cannabis grows, all mature plants and then the loft is also covered.
15:19Well, our forensic photo has been taken of everything.
15:23We'll see some of the plants and then we'll put it all for questioning to the chap we've arrested downstairs.
15:30And then the cannabis will completely be removed from the property.
15:34They nip this in the bud just in time.
15:37Oh, that's quite a decent grow.
15:39Like, lengthwise.
15:40They're ready to pretty much harvest.
15:42A couple of weeks.
15:44They're ready to be going.
15:45It's not very, very shortly.
15:49The property wasn't booby-trapped but Connors found something else potentially meant for unexpected visitors.
15:57Big stick.
15:59There's not much to it.
16:01It was down by the side of the bed so he's obviously kept it there in case someone's coming in that he doesn't want to have come in.
16:06But today he decided to try and run away instead of beat us over the head with it.
16:12As well as the weapon, they've discovered some revealing documents.
16:15Oh, I like this.
16:16You've got an IS-91.
16:17Detention paperwork.
16:19It seems the suspect is awaiting a decision from immigration on whether he'll be allowed to stay in the country.
16:25So it looks like he was given paperwork directing him to stay at a place called the Atrium Hotel.
16:32So it's quite possible that he's been contacted by other members of the same community and basically been enticed from that hotel to work in a cannabis farm.
16:46The time's 9.50, you're under arrest for cultivation of cannabis.
16:50You don't have to say anything but may harm your defence.
16:51Do not mention one question.
16:52Some put you later on in court.
16:53Anything you do say may be given in evidence.
16:55Most of the crop will be destroyed but a few plants are bagged up for analysis.
16:59So they'll go to drug experts in a different station who will then weigh it and then they'll do various tests and all sorts to work out what they think it weighs and how much it'll be worth.
17:15And then that will then be submitted to the courts, give an idea of how much this operation was worth to them.
17:24Although maths wasn't Connor's favourite subject at school, he's a dab hand at totting up the value of a major weed farm.
17:32If they get like, say, three or four crops in a year and they're getting 150, 200 plus plants in each one and it's got a rough street value of a grander plant,
17:42you know, you are getting into the millions, you know, it's got going over a period of time and they won't have just one.
17:49They'll have, you know, in a couple of towns in the area, they might have, you know, between five and ten on the go at any one time.
17:57It's a massive operation.
18:02But not everyone will be sharing in the profits, with the farmer likely at the bottom of the pile.
18:07Well, he's already told us that he's coming off a boat from the channel and that he's been asked, couldn't find work.
18:16So he's potentially being exploited into doing this.
18:19So this is as much as safe about safeguarding him as it is getting this to not be allowed in the street.
18:24The farmer of Weed House pleaded guilty to growing the cannabis and was sent down for 12 months at his majesty's pleasure.
18:35A total of 200 plants with a street value of 140 grand were destroyed.
18:41The Northamptonshire force has 15 dog handlers, including Lucy Sculthorpe, who's on training duty today with four-year-old German shepherd Bryn.
18:53Come on. Where is he?
18:56One of the force's top trackers, Bryn sniffed out a rogues gallery in the line of duty.
19:03But even master crime fighters need regular practice.
19:07Where is he?
19:09Drawing the short straw this morning and playing a hidden suspect is Sean, an instructor from the dog unit.
19:17Some suspects, especially those on drink or drugs, think they can take on a police dog.
19:22They quickly learn that they can't.
19:24Man versus dog is usually a one-sided fight.
19:42Okay, okay!
19:44Ah!
19:45Ah!
19:46Ah!
19:47Good boy!
19:48Yes, good lad!
19:49Good boy!
19:50Most bad guys forego the fists and make good with their legs.
19:55Wait, you in the bushes! Stay where you are! Stay where you are! Hold him!
20:01Usually with a similar result.
20:06Brin's favourite snack is chicken feet, but he'll make do with some padded arm.
20:18Oh!
20:20Oh!
20:22Stop fighting with the dog!
20:24Brin!
20:25Out!
20:26Good boy!
20:27Training course complete.
20:28Good lad!
20:29Yes, clever boy!
20:30Real life action beckons.
20:32Good boy!
20:33It's late night in Wellingborough, and the dynamic duo are after a pair of suspected
20:41burglars failing to stop in a stolen van.
20:45Road conditions are bad, visibility is poor, and the suspects driving is as ropey as the
20:50weather.
20:58Cutting through the rain at more than twice the speed limit, he's running on borrowed
21:01time.
21:03And the inevitable is just around the corner, two men out and running, as the cavalry
21:17rolls in, the runners disappear into the woods, they might have a head start, but Lucy and
21:28Bryn are up for the challenge.
21:31Are you alright, Luce?
21:34One of them's got reflective clothing on as well.
21:37Mate, trust me, Bryn will find them.
21:39Yeah.
21:40The fleeing suspects will have left scent trails as they clambered through trees and vegetation.
21:45To Bryn's find the tune nose, it's a trail of bad guy breadcrumbs, and the hunt is on.
21:50Fish, yes.
21:51I'm checking.
21:52Stand by.
21:53It's tough going, but a few brambles, and a bit of water aren't going to stop them.
22:02They emerge from the woods into a field next to some houses, and Lucy updates the team
22:10with their progress.
22:13Go on somewhere across the stream.
22:16The wards are housing estate.
22:17My location's on the group of the ALVs.
22:21With a sense of smell 10,000 times more sensitive than a human's, Bryn's homing in like a scent-guided
22:28missile.
22:29Yep.
22:29Yep.
22:31Yep, we're going.
22:34After 25 minutes of tracking, Bryn follows his nose to a back garden that seems deserted.
22:41But the dog knows otherwise, and leads Lucy to some garden furniture covered by a tarpaulin.
22:52Lisa, the dog, come out now.
22:55Come out now.
22:56Do you understand?
22:57You've got bitten by the dog.
22:59Right.
23:00The dog's on the lead.
23:01Come out slowly.
23:04Right.
23:05My colleague's going to come in with no dog.
23:08If you make any sudden movements, the dog will bite you.
23:11Do you understand?
23:14Right.
23:14My colleague's going to come in under the garden furniture.
23:19Hours of training have paid off, and Bryn has his man, who was cowering under the tarp.
23:25Good boy, Bryn.
23:26Wait.
23:27Watch him.
23:28The suspect sensibly surrenders, and it looks like Bryn will be getting his chicken feet tonight.
23:34Good lad.
23:35Good boy, Brynster.
23:38Clever boy.
23:40Bryn's undercover runaway turned out to be the passenger from the van.
23:43He was found guilty of an unrelated offence of causing GBH, and was banged up for two years.
23:50Forensics identified the driver, who pleaded guilty to GBH and dangerous driving.
23:55No action was taken against either of them for burglary or vehicle theft.
23:59A good night's work, and dogged determination.
24:06Coming up.
24:07Good morning.
24:08Can you get out?
24:09No.
24:10You can't get out?
24:11There's no escape for a drink driver.
24:13Hello.
24:14Hello.
24:14And Dave and Callum...
24:1696.
24:19...deal with a bloke in a hurry.
24:21He's being pursued.
24:22Yeah.
24:23All over the shop.
24:24According to the UK government, more than 28,000 people a year are convicted of drink driving.
24:43And the interceptors know only too well that drivers who are over the limit are an unpredictable breed.
24:52Sometimes it can be aggressive.
24:54Obviously, we're prepared to deal with that if it is the case.
24:56They don't want to be caught.
24:57I understand that.
24:58There are no implications of what's going to happen if they do get caught during driving.
25:01And get people that accept it for what it is and are apologetic and genuinely are a morsel with it.
25:10And fortunately, you'll get dealt with the same way.
25:12And you do...
25:13We've had people last week that just don't seem to care or understand the issues with it.
25:18But then we see it firsthand on the roads what the implications of drink driving can be
25:24and the collisions that can occur because of it.
25:31The wee small hours after Saturday night are prime time for drink drivers.
25:37And as Bomber and Rob make their way to an RTC in Kettering, they have low expectations of what awaits.
25:45There's been a report of a collision whereby a little red Corsa has collided with a BMW.
25:57But the caller suspects that the driver of the Corsa might be under the influence of alcohol.
26:03The female that's tried to leave, that vehicle is wedged under another car, so she cannot leave.
26:10With the suspected drink driver potentially trying to flee, Bomber's not hanging about.
26:18That's one way.
26:21She's calling us.
26:22Oh, Karen's rouge, yeah.
26:23Oh, there she is.
26:24Rob sums up the scene.
26:29Oh, dear.
26:33The car's wedged, facing the wrong way down a one-way street with the driver at the wheel.
26:40Hello.
26:41Good morning.
26:42Can you get out?
26:43No.
26:44You can't get out?
26:45I don't know.
26:47Hello.
26:48Hello.
26:50What's happened?
26:51Right, so basically, I've been here and trying to get into my car.
26:56Right.
26:58And that's happened.
26:59That's it.
27:00That's just happened, does it?
27:01Makes perfect sense.
27:02Why don't you come and join me in the back of my car for the time being?
27:05Okay.
27:05And then we'll start going through getting your car sorted, shall we?
27:08Right, there's your bank.
27:09Where are your keys?
27:11Where are the keys for the car?
27:12Yeah.
27:13Take them.
27:13There you go.
27:13So, go around this side.
27:16The best place for this wobbly suspect...
27:18And watch yourself there.
27:20...is in the back of a police car.
27:24I've got my breath box ready.
27:26Fine.
27:27I was going to say, if you'd have given me a minute, I could have got that out of your way.
27:31Having been quite chatty, she's now gone all shy.
27:36Doesn't want to speak to me now.
27:38Interesting.
27:40But the onlookers are happy to talk.
27:42Who's...
27:45Has anyone seen what's happened?
27:47You've all heard it.
27:50According to witnesses, the lady has been trying to reverse her corset out for about 30 minutes.
27:56Bomber does some digging.
27:58What's your name?
28:00Are you joking?
28:01No, what's your name?
28:02Is that a joke?
28:03No.
28:05What is your name?
28:07Look, it's hanging right now.
28:09No one's joking here.
28:10Around 260 people are killed each year as a result of drink driving.
28:15And Bomber is deadly serious.
28:17I suspect that you've been drinking.
28:20I need you to provide a sample.
28:24If you don't provide one, though, you'll be arrested.
28:28You know that, don't you?
28:29Yeah?
28:30Yeah.
28:31Failing to provide without a reasonable excuse is treated as severely as being caught driving
28:38over the limit.
28:39What is your name?
28:41Sorry?
28:43Hello?
28:43And failing to talk isn't going to help her either.
28:47Phone to the tube tip, please, until I tell you to stop.
28:50No, thanks.
28:51You're refusing?
28:52Yeah.
28:53Okay, you're under arrest on suspicion of failing to provide a sample of breath for analysis.
28:59Okay?
28:59You don't have to say anything, but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when
29:03questioned something later lying in court.
29:05Anything you do say may be given evidence.
29:07Okay?
29:10Right.
29:13That was simple.
29:14She's just failed to provide.
29:17Romeo Papa 14.
29:17Another unit will recover the car.
29:22And Bomber seems to be making some progress.
29:27Okay.
29:28That doesn't mean wrong.
29:29Well, you have.
29:30You're under arrest now.
29:31What have you got?
29:33For failing to provide a suitable sample.
29:37Okay.
29:38Right.
29:39Jump in the car, please.
29:44Bomber's been on the force for nearly 20 years and has zero tolerance.
29:47For drink drivers.
29:50But he's giving her one last chance.
29:53Right.
29:54I can do this again.
29:55Do you want to provide a sample of breath?
29:57You're going to be arrested anyway.
30:01No.
30:01Okay.
30:02Fair enough.
30:03This chatterbox is off for a trip to the Nick.
30:05Because I suspect that you drink driving.
30:08To blow on the evidential breath test machine.
30:11What's your surname?
30:13But there's still a wall of silence.
30:16Come on, then.
30:18We'll go and speak to the skipper.
30:21Sergeant, he's through here.
30:23Perhaps you'll open up to the Sarge.
30:26Same desk.
30:27This one.
30:28This way around.
30:30Then we're just going into here.
30:31So if you want to just stand up in front of where this gap is, that'd be ideal.
30:34That's it.
30:35I'll do.
30:36I don't have to do this.
30:38You do.
30:38No, I don't.
30:39You do.
30:39No, you absolutely do.
30:41Because it's part of the booking process.
30:42What's that like?
30:43Okay, we'll leave the handcuffs on now.
30:46Face the desk and speak to the Sargeant.
30:49It's a simple request.
30:50Act like an adult.
30:51But it looks like this drink driver doesn't want to turn around.
31:01Okay, I require you to provide two specimens of breath for analysis by means of an approved device.
31:07This is really important, okay?
31:10You need to listen to this.
31:12I warn you that failure to provide either of these specimens will render you liable to a prosecution.
31:19Do you agree to provide two specimens of breath for analysis?
31:24Has she been saving her breath for the evidential test machine?
31:28So do you agree to provide two specimens of breath for analysis?
31:33Doesn't look like it.
31:35Okay.
31:35Right, that's fine then.
31:38There's no point trying to drag this on longer than it needs to be.
31:44It's bad for one cell.
31:45Good effort, but not the right one.
31:48We don't know how drunk she is, but I suspect she's going to be well over the drink drive limit.
31:55And so she's been put into the cell.
31:57She'll spend the night there.
31:58And then in the morning, we'll stick an interview on her.
32:01But ultimately, she's going to be charged with failing to provide.
32:04And she'll go to court.
32:05And she'll face a disqualification.
32:08So whether you decide to provide an example or not, she's going to lose her driving license either way.
32:16Little Miss Silent found her voice and pleaded guilty for failing to provide.
32:23She was banned for 18 months and ordered to pay £439 in fines.
32:28Another major contributor to road accidents in the UK is speeding.
32:38We're at 114, 115.
32:41It not only raises the likelihood of a collision.
32:45Speed 110, no traffic, no pedestrians.
32:48It also increases the chances of you being killed or seriously injured as a result.
32:54And interceptors have little sympathy for the speed demons.
33:02I think it's just selfish, really.
33:05It's a little bit like drink driving, isn't it?
33:07People do it because they think they'll get away with it and they think there won't be any consequences.
33:14There's no real need for it.
33:16You know, it's shown that speeding by even like 10, 20 miles an hour doesn't really make that much difference to your journey time.
33:26And so there's no point.
33:28You put yourself and others at quite a lot more risk for not really any benefit.
33:45Interceptor Dave Lee and Calamar in the unmarked XC90 with eyes on a nippy Ford Focus ST line.
33:52He's got my interest because he's right at the chuff of that Beamer and obviously knowing that he's got no plates, number plates on, might make him think that he can drive like a buffoon.
34:06The tailgating driver has trade plates, which allow those in the motor trade to temporarily drive vehicles without having to register them.
34:15Actually, if he's delivered that to a customer, if that was my car, I wouldn't be very happy.
34:19And Dave's not happy with the bloke's driving.
34:25Well, I've certainly got 19, blocked at 19.
34:29Look, he's just raring up behind stuff, isn't he?
34:3496.
34:37Exceeding the speed limit was estimated to be a contributory factor in 27% of UK road deaths last year.
34:45Aggressive driving at these speeds is a recipe for disaster.
34:49He's bullying people out of the way, isn't he?
34:51He is, isn't he?
34:52There's nothing smooth about his driving either.
34:54No, there isn't. It's all very, you know, erratic, isn't it?
34:57Yeah.
34:57He's heading for points on his licence, and it's all been pointless.
35:02You know, look, he's taken off again.
35:03Why? Because the traffic lights are red.
35:08He's being pursued.
35:09Yeah.
35:10All over the shop.
35:11The driver's clearly unaware of the unmarked car tailing him.
35:18So, 70 and a 40.
35:1971.
35:20It's time to pull him over, but there's no need.
35:24There he is.
35:24Oh.
35:24Happy days.
35:26As he's pulled into a dealership, thankfully in one piece.
35:29And the penny's dropped.
35:32Well, it has now, because I've put all the blue lights on, so...
35:36Hi, driver.
35:42Hello.
35:43Because I need to speak to you about a traffic offence, I'm going to caution you,
35:46so you do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defence if you do not mention
35:48when questioned, something which you're later aligned in court.
35:51Anything you do say may be given in evidence.
35:54Do you know why I've stopped to speak to you now?
35:57I think, yes.
35:58Why am I talking to you?
36:01Maybe I'm speed fast.
36:05Driving fast or what?
36:07Is that a maybe, or are you?
36:09No, I think, yes.
36:10You are.
36:11Are you in any rush to get anywhere?
36:13No.
36:13No?
36:14Okay.
36:14Have you got your driving licence with you, please?
36:18Speeding at over 66 miles per hour in a 40 could mean six penalty points,
36:23and it looks like he's just the wrong side.
36:27So we've got you at 67 miles an hour in a 40.
36:32Yes, sir.
36:33You've also been driving up the backside of everyone else and trying to push them out of
36:36the way, bully your way through traffic.
36:39Yeah, man.
36:40Swerving in and out of lanes.
36:41I know this, sir.
36:44Is this your job?
36:46Possibly not for much longer.
36:47The dealership were equally concerned that, obviously, this is a customer's car and a
36:54bit upset with the way that it was being driven.
36:57But that sort of driving is not acceptable.
37:00Whether that's how he normally drives or whether because there's no number plates on it, there
37:04would be no consequence.
37:07He might feel a bit immune to traffic offences.
37:10I don't know.
37:11But either way, hopefully, this might change his manner of driving.
37:16And if it changes it and it makes it a little bit better, then, you know, we've done our
37:19job.
37:20So you're free to go and drive safe, OK?
37:23No, I'm free, mate.
37:24That's OK.
37:25Thank you very much.
37:26Good.
37:27All good.
37:29Speedy was reported for driving without due care and attention.
37:33His fate rests with the criminal justice unit.
37:39Still to come.
37:40See the double yellow lines?
37:42If you want a zigzag line, you can't park a zigzag line.
37:44Oh, absolutely.
37:45You wait all episode for a zigzag line offence.
37:48Stay there.
37:49I'll give you a bit of paper.
37:50And then two come along in the same story.
37:53He's got some materials.
37:55Can you park one zigzag line?
37:56I can't park anywhere.
38:10Some of the lesser known highway code rules include fitting a sat-nav to the wrong part
38:15of your windscreen, not sleeping in your car under the influence of alcohol, and beeping
38:21your horn when stationary.
38:23But Michael Hollowell is thinking about rule 191.
38:28Not parking on a zigzag line leading off a pedestrian crossing like the driver of the Hyundai.
38:34And there he is.
38:36The bloke makes a half-hearted dash for it.
38:39Excuse me.
38:39Hello.
38:40But it's not exactly the great escape.
38:44On the pavement.
38:45Shut your door.
38:46Shut your door.
38:49Come over here.
38:50Right.
38:51You've gone into the shop.
38:52Yes.
38:52My baby, my baby speak, he's hungry, sir.
38:57See the double yellow lines?
38:59You're on a zigzag line.
39:00You can't park on zigzag lines.
39:02Oh, I'm sorry.
39:02The reason you can't park there is to avoid blocking the view of pedestrians using the
39:07crossing.
39:08And Michael leads by example.
39:10Do me a favour.
39:11I want you to drive off the zigzag lines.
39:13Yeah.
39:14Yeah, I want you to drive off because I don't want to park on zigzag lines.
39:17So if you park down behind that voxel, I'll pull down behind you.
39:20No.
39:21Yes.
39:21All right.
39:22Do not drive off or else you'll be in my bad books.
39:25Michael's top policing peeve is this offence.
39:28So he's got some recommended reading material for the driver.
39:33Who turns out to be from Romania.
39:36Have you read the highway code?
39:40Well, I'm sorry.
39:40I'm not speaking.
39:41You have no idea what the highway code is, have you?
39:44Really, if you've come from a foreign country and you want to drive on our roads, you really
39:48need to be reading the highway code?
39:50And something else you need to drive here.
39:54Insurance.
39:55What insurance have you got on the vehicle?
39:57Do you have any insurance?
40:03Insurance?
40:04No insurance.
40:05The driver's knowledge of UK road laws is as good as his English.
40:12So he phones for some family assistance.
40:16Is that your partner?
40:17My sister, I see.
40:18Your sister?
40:18Yes.
40:19Does she speak English?
40:20Yeah, I speak English, yeah.
40:21Hello.
40:22Hello.
40:23Good afternoon.
40:23What's going on, please?
40:25Hello.
40:26Is it your brother?
40:28Yeah.
40:29Can you let him know that he's going to be reported for driving the vehicle with no insurance?
40:32And also, the vehicle's going to be seized?
40:35Please, sir.
40:36He's going to make the insurance.
40:37Don't do that, sir.
40:38No, no, no.
40:39We'll be taking the vehicle away.
40:42So, just let him know while I fill in the paperwork.
40:47Michael still needs to caution the driver, but the bloke's sister has had to go.
40:52Anybody else that speaks English that you know?
40:54No, I speak my friend.
40:57Okay.
40:58Luckily, his mate is on hand.
41:02Hello, sir.
41:03Good afternoon.
41:03Hello.
41:04Afternoon.
41:04How are you?
41:05I'm going to translate for him.
41:06Nice one.
41:07That's ideal.
41:08So, I'll do it in bits and pieces, all right?
41:11So, he's being reported for the consideration of the question.
41:15Do that bit first.
41:18Okay.
41:19So, he's being reported for the consideration of the question.
41:21What do you mean, Dad?
41:24Do you want me to find it so you can read it to him?
41:27And if you've ever wanted to know what zigzag is in Romanian, pay attention.
41:32The offenses are, number one, parking on zigzag lines.
41:40And no insurance.
41:45All right?
41:46Yeah?
41:46Does he want to make any reply?
41:48No.
41:49Well, ask him.
41:49Yes.
41:51Okay.
41:54Don't say no for him.
41:56What I'm going to ask him is him, not you, I'm reporting.
41:58There's one more bit of bad news for Michael to deliver.
42:01What's up?
42:02This is for the property that you've taken from the vehicle.
42:06You take the car?
42:07I'm taking the car, yeah.
42:08Sir, no, please.
42:09Yeah.
42:10Car has to come with me.
42:11Sir, I need to make the insurance for him.
42:12No, but there's no insurance on the car.
42:14Yes.
42:14I make now, sir.
42:15You can't.
42:16I'm talking about and I make the insurance now.
42:18No.
42:18Car comes with me.
42:19That's it.
42:20The car's off to the pound.
42:22Stay there.
42:23I'll give you a bit of paper.
42:26And Michael's off to see another dodgy parker.
42:30Driver, pull in behind my police car for me.
42:33It seems this place is a bit of a zig-zag-er fence hot spot.
42:40Just dropped some materials.
42:42Yeah, but you parked on zig-zag lines.
42:44I can't park anywhere.
42:45Well, I'd rather you park on double yellers than the zig-zag lines of the crossing.
42:49So, stay away.
42:51You are joking me.
42:52I mean, you're a man of an age that you know what zig-zag lines mean.
42:55You cannot, no one parked on the zig-zag lines, do they?
42:57I've got everywhere to carry them.
42:58Well, however heavy they may be, you don't park on the zig-zag lines.
43:02Right.
43:02So, I've reported this chap from parking on them.
43:04So, unfortunately, you're going to get one too.
43:06So, stay put until I finish with him.
43:10Michael zigzags from one job.
43:12Okay, I'll leave you with it.
43:14Thanks a lot.
43:16To another.
43:17So, when you pulled in to park, did you not see the lovely blue lights of my police car?
43:24Well, I did.
43:24That's why I didn't want to park in the bus spot.
43:27So, I pulled up there just to drop some lead, which is heavy.
43:30I couldn't pull down the other street because they all parked up.
43:33I thought, I'm not going to go here.
43:34No.
43:35Yeah, well, a few seconds is too much on zig-zag lines.
43:39But there's no need for a translator this time.
43:42So, you're going to be reported for the consideration of the question.
43:44Because you're the prosecutor for the one offence that's parking on the zig-zag lines of a crossing.
43:49You don't have to say anything, but it may harm your defence.
43:51Do you want to mention now since later on in court, anything you do say may be evidence.
43:55Do you want to make any comments?
43:58No, no.
43:59Well, no, you can say what you like, really.
44:01It's your choice where you want to say something, but don't worry about it.
44:05And the moral of the story?
44:06You've only got to look at the highway code.
44:08It says you can't do it.
44:09The man with the van was reported for parking on a Pelican crossing and attended a What's Driving Us course.
44:17The Romanian driver went to court and was convicted of parking on a zig-zag and driving without insurance.
44:23He was fined a total of £1,322 and received six points on his licence.
44:28There's no excuse to park on zig-zag lines.
44:33Why would you need to park directly outside a shop and run into the shop and then run back to your car
44:37when you could park 10 metres, 15 metres down the road?
44:40How old are you吃ed?
45:10You
