00:00This, from Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, or actually, of War.
00:06It's Franklin, the turtle in the children's TV series,
00:10except now Franklin is blowing up boats of narco-traffickers in the Caribbean.
00:15The United States, under Hegseth's direction, has been doing exactly that,
00:20killing civilians on boats, accusing them of smuggling drugs, but without providing proof.
00:26Now there are reports that those strikes may amount to a war crime.
00:31When Hegseth launched the first attack in September, he allegedly said,
00:36kill everybody.
00:37After the first volley, two survivors were floating in the water,
00:40holding onto debris, and the commander ordered a second volley.
00:45Hegseth denies that he knew about the second order,
00:48but he also promised more killings, and posted Franklin.
00:51He doesn't understand that this is not fun, not about being macho or lethal,
00:59but about America being a nation of laws.
01:03Congress does understand that.
01:05Even Republicans are now calling for investigations.
01:08And Trump?
01:09He says he supports Hegseth, but he also says he's not happy with that second strike.
01:14A long overdue discussion is about to take place on both sides of the aisle.
01:18Is America great because it is lethal, or because it is just?
01:22This turtle episode will make history.
