00:00By losing the shutdown fight,
00:02Democrats won a bigger and more important political fight,
00:06one that could set them up for success in the midterms.
00:10The government shutdown fight
00:12was both a political and policy fight,
00:15but it was also a messaging fight.
00:17And Democrats certainly won the messaging fight.
00:20If you look back at last week's election
00:22and even last year's election,
00:24it was won around affordability.
00:26In painting Republicans as the party that doesn't care
00:31about the price hikes around healthcare
00:34and the cost of living more generally,
00:37Democrats set themselves up as the party
00:40that cares about affordability.
00:42The shutdown deal, which was around healthcare,
00:45just turbo charges the affordability fight.
00:48You have Republicans who now have to sort of scramble
00:52and figure out what is their approach.
00:54Progressives are mad at Schumer,
00:56particularly in the House.
00:58I don't think Schumer is going anywhere.
00:59Part of it is Democrats actually in the Senate
01:02are fine with Schumer.
01:04There is no alternative to Schumer.
01:06The party that cares about affordability more
01:09will certainly, I think, be successful in the midterms.
