00:00Whether the ceasefire lasts or not, whether it leads to peace or not,
00:04it won't reverse a big shift that's been happening in America,
00:08a shift that will change America's relations with Israel for the next generation.
00:14It's the fact that more Americans, and in particular more young Americans,
00:18increasingly see Israel as a villain, as the bad guy, not the good guy.
00:23And not just young Democrats or lefties, but also young Jewish Americans,
00:28young evangelicals, young conservatives, and even young MAGA types.
00:34In recent polls, majorities or pluralities of Americans have an unfavorable view of the Israeli government,
00:41or oppose sending American weapons to Israel,
00:44or believe that Israel was committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
00:49And the numbers are much higher among the young.
00:51Young Americans vote, and they become older and go into politics themselves.
00:57This is huge.
00:58America is the most important partner Israel has in the world.
01:03It's by far the largest provider of Israel's weapons.
01:06And it protects Israel at the United Nations with its veto in the Security Council.
01:11So far, that relationship has been ironclad.
01:14Some Democrats in Congress have been critical and have tried to block arms sales.
01:18But almost all Republicans have backed Israel.
01:21That will gradually change.
01:23You already see a few Republican MAGA types breaking ranks.
01:28In the future, depending on what Israel does and whether there will ever actually be peace,
01:33there will be more skeptics in Congress on both sides of the aisle.
01:37And then?
01:38Then the U.S. will stop writing Israel a blank check.
01:42That's the metaphor that I keep hearing in Washington.
01:44This could mean that the U.S. stops sending offensive weapons to Israel.
01:49Or it stops using its veto at the United Nations.
01:52The relationship between the U.S. and Israel will never be the same again.
