00:00Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin is coming to India after five years the last time
00:13he was in New Delhi the world was still in the COVID grasp in the past five years much
00:21has changed his friend Narendra Modi is one year old in his third term
00:26Russia is cornered and the US wants a piece brokered at the earliest in Ukraine after
00:34nearly six years of war Moscow in its show of defiance relies heavily on its South Asian friend
00:42India so when the Prime Minister of India extended an invitation to the Russian president in Kazan
00:49on the margins of the 16th BRICS summit in October 2024 the Kremlin took five months to confirm that
00:56the Russian president will make his fourth trip in 11 years to New Delhi to attend 23rd annual
01:04Indo-Russia summit India prepares to say the most they to put in an iron out deeds that will be
01:11mutually beneficial to grow and cement decades of friendship between the two countries
01:19hello and welcome to the special edition of India today global life from Moscow where we will be
01:26talking about the big Putin visit to India he's on a two-day visit starting the 4th of December and the
01:33focus certainly is going to remain defense trade energy despite sanctions from the United States of
01:40America this relationship is a significant one and is unlikely to diminish we'll unpack all that and
01:47more for you but first here's a report India awaits with bated breaths to welcome Russian president
02:01Vladimir Putin for a state visit on the 4th of December as India and Russia celebrate the 25th year of
02:08strategic partnership president Putin will attend the 23rd bilateral summit this will be Putin's first
02:15visit to India since Russia's war began with Ukraine he last visited India on the 6th of December 2021 the
02:24visit comes amid us pressure on India to stop buying Russian oil and an imposition of additional tariffs a
02:30day before his visit president Putin while speaking at an event in Moscow stressed the importance of pursuing a
02:39sovereign economic policy he also mentioned the high turbulence caused is the monopoly of certain
02:45countries we actually we will continue to pursue a sovereign economic policy and act externally based on our
02:54own national interests the needs of domestic businesses and our citizens we will fulfill our obligations to foreign
03:02partners and expand cooperation with those countries that are interested in it as I have already said the vast majority of
03:10countries act rationally and pragmatically over the past three years we have significantly increased our trade volume with
03:18them first and foremost I mean our key partners China and India with whom we share many years of friendship and
03:25and strategic cooperation ahead of the high-profile visit Kremlin spokesperson Dimitri Peskov told reporters that India and
03:34Russia have shared historical ties with mutual understanding of partnership he also described Indians as great friends of Russians
03:42Russia and Indian relationship is not just a standard set of diplomatic protocols and and trade agreements it's more
03:55more of that it's much more important our bilateral relationship rest on a deep historic background of mutual
04:06understanding of partnership and a mutual vision of global affairs and system of global affairs based on
04:16international law on rule of law and the ability of taking into account each other's interests
04:25speaking about the India Russia collaboration Peskov attributed BrahMos as an example of synergy between both nations the major highlights of the
04:36visit will include cooperation in technology energy defense pharma transport routes humanity and science as well as cultural collaborations
04:46well tariffs over tariffs over tariffs between between India and the United States is rather a question of bilateral relations between India and the United States
05:00what concerns us is the way we're going to continue and enlarge the volume of our bilateral business with India not letting anyone interfere in that and this will be definitely discussed
05:14and now just one moment when group editorial director publishing of India today group Raj Chengappa asked the Russian spokesperson on how Russia reacts to India's consistent push for diplomacy and dialogue to end the war in Ukraine
05:30he praised India for its persistent stand and also hailed India for being a good listener
05:37a large chunk of India today on the Ukraine war India has consistently avoided condemning Russia while also reiterating the importance of sovereignty and territorial integrity and calling for diplomacy and saying this is not an era of war is Moscow comfortable with this position or does it privately expect more explicit political
05:46support from Delhi what we like is that Prime Minister Modi and our Indian counterparts they want to listen to our position from their first hands they want to understand their position and it gives us a policy in Russia also reiterating the importance of sovereignty and territorial integrity and calling for diplomacy and saying this is not an era of war is Moscow comfortable with this position or does it privately expect more explicit political support from Delhi
06:11from the first hands. They want to understand their position. And it gives us a possibility
06:16to explain ourselves. And this ensures the mutual understanding. This is of very great importance.
06:24Well, for example, we do not speak with Europeans. We don't have a dialogue, even a word.
06:33So how can you learn your counterpart's position on a so, well, terribly complicated problem
06:42when you don't speak to each other?
06:45Prime Minister Modi will host a private dinner for the Russian President.
06:49Putin will be formally received by President Draupadi Murmu
06:52and Prime Minister Modi at the Rajputi Bhavan 4 Court
06:55and be given a tri-service guard of honour.
06:58He will also pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajkhat.
07:03Defence is going to be top of the agenda, where both the leaders are going to discuss
07:12the advanced S-500 systems, Su-57 jets, R-37 missile systems.
07:19But the conversation is going to be beyond defence.
07:22It's going to be about trade and energy as well.
07:25The world will be watching, including DC and Beijing.
07:33All eyes are on Russian President Vladimir Putin, India's all-weather friend, who is just hours away
07:56from his two-day visit to India on December 4th and 5th.
08:03This meet comes three months after Modi and Putin held bilateral on the sidelines of SCO in China's Tianjin.
08:11This week, in December, we have been waiting for 140 crores Bhavarati
08:18for the entire summit.
08:20We have such a relationship that I believe that you all understand.
08:24I don't want anything to do with Ukraine.
08:33Lingering U.S. trade tensions and Russia's war with Ukraine have delayed deals like the
08:38Indo-U.S. Pact.
08:41But Putin's visit can be a game-changer.
08:48Over two days, the leaders will discuss a wide-ranging agenda, defense, nuclear energy, oil, technology
08:56and trade.
09:00Defense remains a major pillar.
09:02High-end systems like the S-500 air defense platform are expected on the table, reinforcing
09:09Russia's role as India's primary partner in missile defense architecture.
09:17Even as India diversifies its defense suppliers, Russia's S-400 systems proved vital during
09:24Operation Sindur, spectacularly neutralizing Pakistan's China and Turkey-made missiles.
09:32Bilateral trade hit a record $68.7 billion in last financial year, with India exporting
09:38machinery, textiles, chemicals and more, while imports from Russia remain dominated by crude
09:44oil, fertilizers, metals and machinery.
09:49From missile defense to energy security and billions in trade, Modi's dost Vladimir Putin's
09:56India visit is more than ceremonial.
09:59It is strategic.
10:02All eyes in global strategic spare, especially in Trump's America, is fixated on this trip.
10:08With Shivani Sharma and Sandeep Unithan, Bureau Report, India Today.
10:16If there's one primary example of strategic autonomy, it is this relationship between India and Russia.
10:22Despite all the sanctions and pressures from the West, India continue to remain engaged with
10:28Russia, with the defense engagement and also becoming one of the top buyers of oil, seaborne
10:35oil from Russia.
10:36Now, there are reports that there could be reduction in oil intake from Russia, but India continues
10:42to maintain that it will keep its interests first.
10:46India's crude oil imports from Russia are expected to have rise in
11:06slightly in October 2025 from the previous month.
11:11Preliminary ship tracking data from Kepler and Oilex show India defying pressure from Washington
11:17to cut purchases continues to import oil from Russia.
11:23India's Russian oil imports rose to about 1.48 million barrels per day or BPD in October
11:30from 1.44 million BPD in September, Kepler data showed.
11:35Whereas, Oilex pegged October imports at the same level and said September imports were 1.43 million
11:43BPD.
11:44Oilex data excluded oil from Kazakhstan that was also exported from Russia.
11:50But this is about to decrease.
11:52Trade and refining sources claim that India's Russian oil imports are set to hit their lowest
11:57in at least three years in December 2025.
12:02That would be a down from multi-months high in November as refiners turn to alternatives to
12:08avoid breaching Western sanctions.
12:12The Russian President and the Indian Prime Minister will work together to salvage the situation.
12:23Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2024 and the world or rather America and its allies in
12:29Europe were united in cornering Russia.
12:32Other than the economic sanctions that was very little the West could do to push Vladimir
12:37Putin to back down because Putin had the key power to maneuver energy.
12:42Little by little the Western European Union in particular tried to be in themselves of Russian
12:48energy causing Russian ruble to lose its shine.
12:53Vladimir Putin turned to his old friends China and India.
12:57Despite severe criticism India bought more than twice as much crude oil from Russia in the
13:02two months since its invasion of Ukraine as it did in the whole of 2021.
13:08The Indian Foreign Minister S.J. Shankar time and again defended India's decision, sometimes
13:14even went into offensive batting as well.
13:18What looks almost like a campaign on this issue.
13:22Now I was just reading a report today that in the month of March Europe has bought I think
13:2815% more oil and gas from Russia than it did the month before.
13:35Europe has to grow out of the mindset that Europe's problems are the world's problems but the world's
13:43problems are not Europe's problems.
13:46India bought crude oil worth 25.5 billion dollars from Russia in 2022.
13:52It nearly doubled to 48.6 billion dollars in 2023 and rose to 52.7 billion in 2024.
14:02Donald Trump came back to the Oval Office in January 2025 and from the very beginning he
14:07started to use tariffs as punitive measures.
14:11India has been slapped by the USA with an additional 25% tariff for buying crude oil from Russia.
14:18Atma Vishwasa or self-confidence.
14:22As the most populous nation, as a civilizational state, as a rapidly growing major economy, we
14:30are confident about who we are and what we will be.
14:36Bharat will always maintain its freedom of choice and will always be a voice of the global south.
14:47Russia faces a tough challenge under the circumstances and India is in a tight spot.
14:54This is the Dosti Drizba moment.
15:01Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin have met 17 times in the last
15:0711 years through multilateral and annual summits.
15:11This is the Modi-Putin moment yet again that we are seeing for over a decade now.
15:16President Putin is visiting India after five years and it only shows promise of the relationship
15:24growing stronger.
15:25It is a Dosti built over a period of 11 years.
15:43Cemented with cooperation and mutual understanding, what has been a traditional international friendship
15:49took a leap forward with the confidence of two strong leaders, Narendra Modi and Vladimir
15:55Putin.
15:56Moscow and New Delhi always stand by each other.
16:00We share very good and positive relations with Prime Minister Modi.
16:04He is a very wise man and India has been making great strides in its development under his leadership.
16:12So this fully meets the interests of both India and Russia to work on this agenda.
16:21When the world cornered Russia over the Ukraine invasion and Moscow needed to survive economically,
16:26New Delhi, while condemning the war, bought oil from them as it was cheap and suited Indian
16:33interests.
16:34Despite worldwide criticism, India stood its ground.
16:37When oil prices go up, I think it's natural for countries to go out into the market and
16:43look for what are good deals for their people.
16:46But I am pretty sure if we wait two or three months and actually look at who are the big
16:54buyers of Russian gas and oil, I suspect the list won't be very different from what it
16:59used to be.
17:00And I suspect we won't be in the top 10 on that list.
17:04We do not think India should accelerate or increase imports of Russian energy and other
17:07commodities, even as obviously those decisions are made by individual countries.
17:12And also making clear that we stand ready to support India as in any efforts to diversify
17:16its imports and serve as a reliable supplier, even as they're only importing about one to
17:21two percent of their oil from India.
17:23In the past 11 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin have
17:31met each other 17 times.
17:36Narendra Modi's first visit as the Prime Minister of India to St. Petersburg way back in 2017 was
17:42an emotional one.
17:44He remembered his visit to the Russian city as the Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001.
17:51As a result, I was on the first time, the President of the United States.
17:54I was the governor of the U.S.
17:56I was the first time in Russia, when I was the president of Russia, and I was the president of Russia.
18:09I was the president of the Ukraine, against Russia, and my president of Russia.
18:19Rajapati Putin's and my political journey, the whole country's friends and friends have been further ahead of the country.
18:30Minister Kultury of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Prostislavovich Mikinsky,
18:34St. Petersburg's declaration of 2017 became the benchmark of stability in a turbulent, independent and interconnected world.
18:42A year later, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, met Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi,
18:53for the 19th edition of the annual bilateral summit in New Delhi on October 4th and 5th, 2018.
19:03The relationship between India and Russia needs no special introduction. It has very deep roots.
19:12In 2019, when the two met again, the Indian Prime Minister had just ensured his second term.
19:21At Vladivostok, for the 5th Eastern Economic Forum, both leaders noted progressive development
19:27of the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia.
19:31Kang
19:45It is an investment in Russia, especially with technology, defense manufacturing, and energy.
19:59Now it is an investment in Russia, so we do not have such an investment in both countries.
20:07Russian President Vladimir Putin came calling again in December 2021.
20:18The two leaders gave impetus for sustained progress in the special and privileged strategic
20:24partnership between both countries despite the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic.
20:49Within months of this meeting, Russia invaded Ukraine and the war still continues.
21:16But it did not impact the relations India and Russia have built over decades.
21:22Neither did it impact the born homie enjoyed by the two leaders.
21:27In September 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin
21:33in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on the sidelines of the 22nd meeting of the Shanghai Corporation
21:39Organization to discuss important issues of bilateral cooperation as well as regional
21:44and global issues of interest like the global food security, energy security and availability
21:50of fertilizers.
21:54Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off his third term with a trip to Russia for
21:58the 22nd Indo-Russian Annual Summit in July 2024.
22:03New Delhi and Moscow signed nine MOUs and agreements in several sectors including trade, climate
22:09and research.
22:37Prime Minister Modi made four visits to Russia during his first term but in his second term
22:43it was only once.
22:44Whereas the Russian President in past 11 years has come to India thrice, twice in the first
22:51term of Prime Minister Modi and once in the second term.
22:54Vladimir Putin's 4th November visit to New Delhi will be his fourth visit to India in past 11
23:01years, marking a deeper bond between the two countries in Modi 3.0.
23:06Bureau Report, India Today.
23:10President Vladimir Putin is going to be in India on the 4th of December.
23:16It is going to be a strategic power play between New Delhi and Moscow and we will be watching
23:21every move very closely bringing you detailed analysis but for now it is a wrap on this edition.
23:28India says Namaste to Putin, it's Dasma Dhania from Moscow from me.
