00:00Eastern Pennsylvania and today Scranton is the focal point for boxing with WBC heavyweight champion Larry Holmes fulfilling a long-time promise that he would bring a title fight back to the city where he began his professional career 10 years ago.
00:15Today that promise has been paid back and we welcome you to Watch for His Armory for a big day of boxing.
00:22Hi everybody Marv Albert along with the fight doctor Ferdy Pacheco and it's good to see Ferdy back in working order following yesterday's bout with laryngitis although Ferdy I must say I speak on behalf of the entire staff here at NBC we were concerned that you would recover your voice during the course of our three and a half hour drive from Atlantic City yesterday to the Scranton area.
00:44Yeah well I read your book The Mouth That Failed has one page shut up for 24 hours harsh and inhuman treatment Marv but I did it and my voice is back.
00:54All right good to have a fight doctor back with us let's take a look at our boxing lineup for today.
00:59We open with junior middleweight James Hard Rock Green with a record of 16 and 2 and today Hard Rock goes up against a young man by the name of Michael Doerr a 23 year old out of Kingston Jamaica his record 18 and 2 he's knocked out 9 opponents in 4 rounds or less.
01:20Later on on Sports World starting at 4 o'clock Eastern time WBC heavyweight champion Larry Holmes defends his title Holmes looking to maintain his unbeaten record as he goes against the European heavyweight champion Lucian Rodriguez.
01:36So we are moments away from junior middleweight Michael Doerr and James Hard Rock Green.
01:54Now Green does come off a tune-up win against Eferino Gonzalez last month however that loss to Frank the Animal Fletcher last October still has to be on his mind.
02:05Yeah well we saw him pull an El Foldo there under intense pressure from Animal Fletcher.
02:11Now that's what we got to find out can he respond to pressure he's in with a guy's got a better record and is a banger so let's see how he handles the pressure of Doer.
02:20All right we did get an opportunity to talk with Green about that loss at the hands out of Animal Fletcher.
02:25Well what happened was that I felt myself coming on stronger in the fight it was like a thing which my trainer my manager in the corner told me
02:35don't the guy hustling me just fight my fight keep my game plan I wanted to dare to do that I was fighting him and that the last the next you know next thing that happened he threw a flip of cups.
02:45I got caught with an elbow against my eye and I got cut and the blood started gushing in my eye and then I you know I couldn't see and like I panicked a little bit you know it was like a physical thing you know I couldn't see and the blood was in my eye and you know just that the first thing came to my mind was cover up you know protect myself you know don't let it get worse than what it is so that's what happened with that.
03:07Yes it was a great experience for me you know like I told my manager my trainer you know if it happened again I know how to go about it you know I want to pang like that I want to I want to accept it that way I go out there and even fight harder the next time because I would not let the blood or anything else stop me.
03:23Yes I had some approval to the people and to myself I feel as though uh from that Fletcher fight I know that wasn't a real hard rock so uh like I said uh I disappointed a lot of people my fans and friends my family and I told myself next time out I'm gonna go all the way give it 100% plus and uh that's you know that's my word my honor I'm just gonna go ahead and scratch it out just give it all I got.
03:45I seen him fight a film I studied a film with Michael Dua he's uh supposed to be a good boxer not as a hard puncher but a good boxer trying to be a counter puncher but um like I said I will see what he have come tomorrow you know if he have a right hand or left foot or whatever because I'm gonna be right there I'm gonna challenge him that's what I'm there for to win and I'm gonna give him all he want.
04:15We'll see you next time.
04:45The thing that height will do is make Green lunge at him if he lunges at him he can get caught he has to keep Dua has to keep Green outside lunging once he gets inside and starts to work it's all over because he is a machine inside.
04:59All right Michael Dua is a 23 year old out of Kingston Jamaica one of three outstanding prospects out of Jamaica Dua along with heavyweight Trevor Burbick junior middleweight Mike McCallum.
05:10I am a fighter from Jamaica right and I'm I'm gonna prove it to them to the Americans that Jamaican fighter can fight.
05:17Now being on national TV this ain't gonna affect me no way at all because this is one of my major wish wish to be a national TV I don't really know of his caliber right but on his record he's the best fighter I'm gonna face but I'm going in here to win and I'm going to win.
05:35I'm going to win.
05:42Michael Dua a record of 18 and 2 12 by knockout.
05:50His last fight last December stopped in the sixth round by the veteran Al Stiles junior at Atlantic City.
05:59Michael Dua has entered the ring after winning his first 16 professional bouts.
06:05He's had some difficulty recently lost a 10 round decision last April in in Haiti to Kenny Bristol.
06:12Here's James Green making his entrance.
06:17James Hardrock Green 25 years old record of 16 and 2 10 by knockout.
06:24That last bout as we mentioned February 23rd a win over Zeferino Gonzalez.
06:31He stopped Gonzalez in the seventh round.
06:34But his two losses lost by decision to Robbie Sims.
06:37That was his fifth pro fight back in 1981 although he floored Sims twice early in the bout.
06:42And last October stopped by Frank the animal Fletcher in the sixth round.
06:48That stopped an 11 bout win streak.
06:51And James affected apparently by seeing his own blood.
06:53Took him right out of the fight.
06:56Frank Green admitted that he panicked.
06:58Got trapped in his corner.
07:00Unable to respond to the pressure from Fletcher.
07:05So James Hardrock Green and Michael Dua getting set to go.
07:10Here we go.
07:12Scheduled for 10.
07:13A junior middleweight bout here in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
07:16We'll be back with productions.
07:17Let's go to the ring for Ed Darien.
07:22Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen.
07:26To the Watrous National Guard Armory in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
07:31For the scheduled 10 round junior middleweight bout.
07:34Which is being promoted by Sports Car Incorporated in association with Chuck Feltman Foundation.

07:48The Honorable James J. Bing's Chairman.
07:52The Honorable Charles Chuck Veterinaric Commissioner.
07:56The judges, Chris Kyrgios and Phil Bosha.
08:01The tag keeper DeBell is Phil Reese.
08:04Counting for the knock down seconds, ultimate referee, Kim Revensteiner.
08:10In the ring at this time, demanding charge of the scheduled 10 round junior middleweight bout.
08:16Referee, Hank Siskel.
08:20And now boxing fans, introducing the principals.
08:23First in the blue corner, wearing the blue trunks with the gold trim.
08:28He weighed in at an even 153 pounds.
08:33This gentleman has a record of 18 wins, 2 losses with 12 knockouts.
08:38All the way from Kingston, Jamaica.
08:41Ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome Michael Dewar.
08:48Dewar.
08:49And his opponent in the ring, wearing the blue trunks with the white and blue trim.
08:57He did the scales at even 155 pounds.
09:01This young man has a record of 16 wins, 2 losses with 10 knockouts.
09:06He is ranked seventh by the World Boxing Association, a name of Irvington, New Jersey, and now residing in Patterson, New Jersey, boxing fans.
09:16Here's James.
09:18Hot Rock Green.
09:22Green.
09:23And the referee, Hank Siskel, out of Doristown, Pennsylvania.
09:30All right, now I want a good clean fight.
09:31When I tell you to break, I want you to break.
09:33Familiarize you with the Pennsylvania rules.
09:35Three knockdowns in one round and the fight is automatically stopped.
09:39In case of a knockdown, you go to the furthest neutral corner and stay there until I tell you to come out.
09:44In case of a knockdown, the bell should ring.
09:46I continue to count.
09:48In other words, the bell don't save you.
09:50Are there any questions?
09:51All right.
09:52And where's the Chief's second here?
09:54Over here.
09:55Over here.
09:56Okay.
09:57Now, I want a good clean fight.
09:58Shake hands down.
09:59Get back and wait for the bell.
10:01Scoring in the state of Pennsylvania under the auspices of the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission
10:06on the five-point must and handled by the two judges and the referee.
10:12Scheduled for ten.
10:13James Green from Lewisburg, North Carolina.
10:16Grew up in Newark, New Jersey.
10:18Now makes his home at Irvington, New Jersey.
10:20And Michael Dewar from Kingston, Jamaica.
10:24And you see the height and reach advantage of Dewar.
10:29Seven inches in height, five-and-a-half inches in reach.
10:36James Green's biggest victory.
10:38He won that impressive, rugged ten-round decision over Wilfred Sipion back in March of 82.
10:44A bout of many butts and clinches, late hits after the bell.
10:49And in that bout, he gave away six inches and six pounds to Sipion.
10:55Just remember, there's nobody shorter than Hard Rock Green fighting.
10:59He's got to fight people that are taller than he is.
11:04And birdie at the six feet.
11:06Michael Dewar very tall for junior middleweight.
11:10Quite a difficult target to hit.
11:12So low to the ground at 5'5".
11:14Likes to slip and bob.
11:16Counterpunch.
11:17Can't be difficult to solve, although Frank Fletcher had no problem solving.
11:26What you saw just then is the way that Green fights.
11:30He comes in throwing punches.
11:32It's going to be up to Dewar to catch him coming in with that strong right hand that he's got.
11:37And put some hurt on him.
11:39Otherwise, he'll be there all night.
11:40He just did it.
11:41He just dropped the right hand on Green.
11:45It's a combination by Green.
11:46All right, get out.
11:47Michael Dewar only his fourth fight in the United States.
12:00Looking today, his last four have been in the States.
12:04His other bouts have taken place either in Jamaica or Haiti.
12:08A little good left hand by Green.
12:10If Dewar waits until Green is inside to begin his punching, he's going to be outpunched by Green,
12:17who's got those little piston-like arms.
12:19He's got to catch him out here.
12:20And there's distance between them.
12:22Got to drop the right hand as he's coming in.
12:25James Green, nicknamed Hard Rock for that well-defined physique.
12:44He is ranked seventh by the WBC.
12:4716-2, 10 by knockout.
12:52Lou Dewar's advice to Green has been, don't worry about the knockout.
12:56Go to the body, wear your opponent down.
12:58And that's what he's attempting here in this opening round.
13:01And the interesting thing about Green is he's well-ranked as a junior middleweight
13:06and as a middleweight because he fights in both divisions.
13:10So, for the most part, it was Green on the attack in this opening round.
13:20He's getting set for round two.
13:23Going up against Michael Dewar.
13:26Scoring on the five-point system in the state of Pennsylvania.
13:30The fight doctor had a 5-4 opening round for Green.
13:35And no secrets in James Dewar's corner.
13:38They tell him, you've got to be first with a jab.
13:41Do not wait for him and get into a counter-punching situation.
13:44Keep him off with a jab.
13:46It's good instruction.
13:47He's trying to follow it.
13:56That's the first fight at the Watrous Armory in Scranton
14:01since Kit Gaviland bought one Eugene Hairston back in 1950
14:06when Ferney was just a child.
14:10Kit Gaviland is a friend of mine.
14:11Who are you talking about?
14:13And a great fighter.
14:16And coming up later, the first-ever heavyweight title bout.
14:21It's Scrant.
14:22Larry Holmes.
14:23Lucien Rodriguez.
14:25Flurry by Green, warded off by Dewar.
14:33Dewar's just got to start punching a little bit harder
14:35and with a little bit more crispness and authority.
14:37He can't just lay out a little jab
14:39because that doesn't bother Green at all.
14:42Now look at him in the corner.
14:44Good punches by Dewar.
14:46First good counter-punches by Dewar.
14:48That's the right hand that we had heard about.
14:52Dewar is set to have a subtle, accurate jab.
14:57Usually provides a busy fight,
14:59but has not been busy over these first two rounds.
15:02I think he's giving Green too much respect.
15:06Way too much respect.
15:08But Green will be all night for that disconcerting pressure.
15:11Nothing bothers him.
15:13All right, get out. Get out.
15:18Dewar normally tries to go with combinations.
15:23Not a one-punch pass.
15:26Oh!
15:27Right hand just grazed Green.
15:30That was a beautifully thrown right hand by Dewar.
15:32He'd just gotten hit by a combination.
15:34He threw a very strong right hand that just grazed Green.
15:37One wonders what would have happened
15:38if that had landed right on the button
15:39because it had power in the party.
15:41Very tough body blows.
15:56Thrown by James Green.
15:58Oh, another busy round for Green.
16:04For Green, Dewar got the right hand in
16:06but did not have much on it.
16:07Push it go! Push it go!
16:08Push it go!
16:09Push it go!
16:10Push it go!
16:11Push it go!
16:12Push it go!
16:13Push it go!
16:14Push it go!
16:15Push it go!
16:16Come on, Mike!
16:17Come on, Mike!
16:18And we're final seconds.
16:19Round two.
16:20Come on, Mike!
16:21Come on, Mike!
16:22After the bell that ended round two.
16:24All right!
16:25Up!
16:26Extra hit by Green and Dewar responded before the referee was able to get in.
16:33And this is round three.
16:36Replay of all of those extracurricular activities last week in Chicago.
16:43Excellent fight between Collins and Lepaglia that saw Lepaglia get knocked down after the bell.
16:49And never quite recovered.
16:53Michael Dewar, 23-year-old out of Kingston, Jamaica.
16:56Record of 18-2.
16:5812 by knockout.
17:00He is the bigger of the two by a considerable margin.
17:04Seven-inch height advantage on Green.
17:07Five-and-a-half-inch reach advantage.
17:09But as this fight has developed, throw those stats out the window.
17:13James Green has managed to neutralize Dewar to this point.
17:18I think he can throw the stats out the window when James Green fights anybody.
17:22Again, Green to the body and then up high.
17:27Green has been punching so hard he knocked the two letters off of his truck.
17:32Now it spells Green G-R-N instead of G-R-E-E.
17:37And we've hit the midway point.
17:38Round three.
17:39But it's changed.
17:40Oh, get out of here.
17:41Get out.
17:42Out the hole.
17:43Let's go.
17:44Dewar tried to time his right hand just at the time that Green was throwing his.
17:50And with his misfortune, Green's landed solid.
17:53Spun him along the ropes.
17:57We are live from Scranton, Pennsylvania.
18:00Start of a big day of boxing here on NBC.
18:01Later on, Larry Holmes defending his heavyweight title against Lucien Rodriguez.
18:05Marv Albert with a fight doctor.
18:06Bertie Pacheco.
18:07Dewar got his right hand caught on the ropes as he tried to unload.
18:23Marv Albert with the fight doctor, Bertie Pacheco, Dewey got his right hand caught on the ropes as he tried to unload.
18:44Now Dewey looking to flick the jab, but it's all James Green continues to go to the body,
18:51took a ball punch right from Dewey.
18:54Dewey is going to have to start getting the message that he has to uppercut as James bends over.
19:00Letters are just falling off of green. There goes an R.
19:09It's not an economy move.
19:13Good glory by Dewey.
19:14James Green continues to lose the lettering on his trunks.
19:23You're throwing your left hook, understand? You're dropping your right hand, okay?
19:26His hands have got to be up there, okay? And on the inside, you'll rip them right up.
19:30Rip up the body on him.
19:31Let's spread that out.
19:31Okay?
19:34Bertie, good boxing advice from Lou Duva, but he didn't say anything about James losing the lettering on his trunks.
19:40Not one word.
19:41He's got to adjust his punching.
19:42Not one word about it. He said, drop your left hand.
19:44He didn't say anything about dropping your vowels and your consonants there.
19:50And this is round four.
20:00James Green's last bout stops Zafferino Gonzalez in round seven.
20:10Looking to bounce back after the loss for Frank Lianable Fletcher.
20:17James Green, who does not like to headhunt, looks to cut down opponents, going to the body.
20:22And that has been his philosophy here today.
20:39Michael Doerr, 18-2, 12 by knockout.
20:45Noted for the strong right hand, but has played it in very cautious fashion to this point.
20:52We're going to be able to get it.
21:00Passing a crowd, close to 7,000 here at the Watrous National Guard Armory, Scranton, Pennsylvania.
21:08WBC heavyweight champion Larry Holmes fulfilling a promise 10 years ago.
21:14When he fought for the first time as a professional here in Scranton, he said someday he would come back
21:20as a champion and stage a fight in Scranton.
21:24Today is that day, and that'll take place later on on Sports World, starting at 4 Eastern time.
21:34Of course, there are many skeptics questioning the Rodriguez-Holmes matchup, and those are subjects
21:47that we will get into later on on ringside and then at the start of Sports World.
21:51And in the meantime, Doerr has not seen fit to alter his technique, and it's lost him every round.
22:04Now this is a non-action round 4.
22:10Michael Doerr just looking to stay away from James Green.
22:14Green going up high.
22:32A rare attempt on the part of Doerr to unload that right.
22:35Let's listen in on the corner of Michael Doerr.
22:49What are you doing?
22:54You want to win this fight?
22:54You want to win this fight, Michael?
22:56Come on.
22:56You want to win the fight?
22:58Let's get busy.
23:00This is enough nonsense what you're doing.
23:02Come on, Michael.
23:02You're giving this guy every break in the books.
23:04Well, let's cut this out.
23:06Don't put any water on.
23:08Trainer Arthur Batson saying, what are you doing?
23:11What nonsense.
23:13Michael Doerr has done zippers over the first four rounds.
23:18James Green just missing with that left hook.
23:22Doerr continues to take a pounding.
23:27Now the Fight Doctors scorecard has been all green.
23:30Five-point bust in the state of Pennsylvania.
23:33And Ferdy has green in front.
23:35Twenty-sixteen.
23:46And it got by.
23:48In this fifth round, we're scheduled for ten.
23:56Stopped the holdage, says the referee, Hank Sisco.
23:59Strong right hand by Green.
24:14He's been launching, looking to go up high on Doerr.
24:27Doerr is waiting for these last half of the day.
24:31He's been launching, Hank Sisco.
24:33He's been launching, Hank Sisco.
24:34Fire of Albert with the Fight Doctor.
24:37Bernie Pacheco.
24:39Bernie's still under the weather, suffering from laryngitis.
24:42He's come back stronger this afternoon.
24:46And Doerr is waiting for these last half of this fight.
24:58He's got an unpleasant surprise for him because Green fights his way ten rounds.
25:03And Michael Doerr is coming off a loss after winning his first 16 professional fights.
25:18The problems recently.
25:19Lost a ten-round decision last April to Kenny Bristol.
25:22Last December, stopped at round six by the veteran Al Stiles, Jr. in Atlantic City.
25:30A rare right hand by Doerr that was on target.
25:33That is it for round five.
25:41We're going to check in now at 31.
25:43The ring.
25:44Let's go.
25:46Back your belt.
25:47Michael Doerr getting set to come out against James Hardrock-Brain for round number six.
25:53And it will be intriguing to hear the words of Randy Tex Cobb, who took that pounding from Larry Holmes and Holmes' last bout.
26:05Well, it affected everything except his sense of humor.
26:08That's one of the funniest guys I've ever heard in boxing.
26:12Ever since Max Baron slaps him, Maxie left, there's been no one with that sense of humor in boxing.
26:17Unless you count Sonny Liston.
26:19He's had a busy weekend in Atlantic City yesterday, handling his fighters, and hearing him scratch about that hole in the corner of James Green.
26:37This has merely been a workout for Green to this point.
26:43Green's starting to leave his feet with a leaping punch.
26:46That's when he can get hit.
26:47Even he's getting a little exasperated, I think.
26:49And he's winning this fight every round.
26:5325 to 20 right now.
26:58All right, here's Green again.
27:18Loosening up.
27:19Yeah, he should be getting armward.
27:23Green very confident now.
27:29Michael Dua has shown up.
27:30That's it.
27:36And at Madison Square Garden, Martina Navratilova has won the Virginia Slips final.
27:426-2, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0.
27:52And we're less than a minute remaining in the sixth round.
27:56I can't figure out Michael Dua's strategy, whether he feels he would tire Green out.
28:09Green is talking to him now, saying, let's fight.
28:13Or it's just one of those days we've seen it happen.
28:17Very frequently, a boxing guy just shows up sluggish, doesn't feel like competing.
28:21I think Green heard Dua's interview where he wanted a show to make it.
28:26And Green is saying, well, you want to show him something?
28:27Show him something.
28:29Oh, big right hand, caught up by the left.
28:32Best punch of the mouth thrown by James Green.
28:35Man's getting restless.
28:44Near the pulling, and it's directed toward Michael Dua.
28:52Six, here's that right hand of James Green, the overhand right.
28:56And then the left on the follow.
28:58This is round seven.
29:01If you're scoring, it has been a shutout for James Green.
29:05And again, Dua's corner, very upset with him.
29:10As well as should be.
29:15He's got to decide to lay it out with Green.
29:17Either he does, or he just takes his page in, goes back to Jamaica,
29:21just having existed 10 dreary rounds with Hard Rock Green.
29:29And this is for the case from the opening bell, where Green came right out.
29:35Green is not a guy who likes to talk, but apparently he was upset.
29:41The crowd has responded to the non-action that cost Dewar is here.
29:48And not quite good left hand by Green.
29:50And Green began talking to Dewar the last couple of rounds, saying, hey, what's going on?
29:54Come on, we'll stop running, let's fight now, all right? Let's go. Come on.
29:57The referee just said, stop running and let's fight.
30:00And apparently the crowd heard it because they roared.
30:04Green is used to hearing cheers because every time he's appeared on NBC, it's been a war.
30:09This is what is labeled on the amateurs as NC, no contest.
30:15Marv Albert with Bernie Pacheco, Scranton, Pennsylvania.
30:20The start of a busy day of boxing here on NBC, our ringside program,
30:25followed by NBC Sports World getting underway at four o'clock, featuring WBC heavyweight champion
30:31Larry Holmes defending against Lucian Rodriguez.
30:45That referee, Hank Sisco, breaking the fighters in Green's corner.
30:57James Green at five foot five, always at a height to reach this advantage.
31:04All right, stop that holding backwards.
31:06Stop the holding fight.
31:08The instructions to Michael Dewar.
31:14Now the referee seems to feel like the crowd at this fight's a non-fight because of Dewar,
31:19and so he's on Dewar's case.
31:28Green continues to pursue.
31:30Michael Dewar did get in on Green.
31:36All right, stop punching, get back.
31:42Oh, left hand, Green teeing off.
31:44That ropes Dewar up.
31:46For the first time this afternoon, Michael Dewar showing some action late in the round and did
32:01connect on James Green, and then Green made a spin move into the blue corner and virtually challenged
32:10Dewar to hit him, but still the round for James Green, and the shutout continues.
32:18This is round eight.
32:20Get moved for 10.
32:21Michael Dewar, 23 years old from Kingston, Jamaica on the left.
32:26James Green, 25 year old, now living in Irvington, New Jersey.
32:35All right, yeah, get out.
32:36Dewar is literally punching down on Green.
32:38That's his problem.
32:40He's got to bring up uppercuts.
32:42He's just trying to bring the punches down.
32:47You start off in good fashion.
32:49They must be just giving him all kind of heck in the corner.
32:52But then, as soon as he gets out and lays out three or four punches and feels the leather,
32:56the Green throws, he stops.
32:57Stop that.
32:58Stop that.
32:59Stop that from the back of the neck.
33:01Okay, let's fight now.
33:02All right.
33:02Yeah, the warning about the referee, Hank Sisco.
33:06I like this referee.
33:08Hank Sisco, no nonsense.
33:09Look at that face.
33:10Looks like a coal mine, that face.
33:14Oh, it's now Pennsylvania.
33:16Michael Dewar landed.
33:22Do his best round so far.
33:26He's trying to fight.
33:34Green's slipping most of that for a ride.
33:40There's the uppercut, but Green was able to answer with the left hand.
33:49And that exchange gets heated.
33:51Green ducks down.
33:53The other guy has to virtually get on his knees to be on the same level to hit him.
33:57There's the uppercut I was talking about.
33:59That's what, that's what he's got to throw.
34:01That's what Dewar's got to throw.
34:05He waited till the eighth to discover a startling fact.
34:08He's taller than the other guy.
34:10He's got Green.
34:20That's the uppercut.
34:21He doesn't know how to follow it.
34:25He's got Green.
34:26He doesn't know it.
34:41Green was hurt.
34:44And has Dewar now landing with combinations.
34:46Left hand by Dewar.
34:48And he has Dewar in trouble.
34:51Less than 30 seconds remaining in the round.
34:55Green looking to put Dewar down.
34:57And the referee, Hank Sisco, with a jerky, blocking ball.
35:11And now the fans respond.
35:12Oh, after an invisible seven rounds on the part of Michael Dewar, he came to life.
35:16Come on Michael, finish him off.
35:34Oh, after an invisible seven rounds on the part of Michael Dewar, he came to life.
35:40Come on Michael, finish him off.
35:43Finish him off.
35:44What a combination, now you had him hurt there, keep punching, you gotta keep punching, come on.
35:50Mike, don't stop, don't you had him hurt on the ropes.
35:52You let him get off, you had him out, jump back off.
35:56Now look, when you had him on the ropes, you reset what you...
35:58You bob and weave, get off the ropes, I want you to see a punch, okay?
36:01Up and down, up and down, move on the side, this guy's right in front of you.
36:04You go on the side, you can't miss him.
36:06You got that? James, you got this here?
36:09Give me the pail, pail.
36:12And we're on to round nine, scheduled for ten.
36:23Michael Dewar hurt James Green midway through the eighth round.
36:27And then Green right back, and Neely put Dewar down.
36:32And the final 30 seconds of round eight.
36:36Green went right hand crazy, was throwing a looping right hand
36:39instead of doing his usual under and over move,
36:42which is what Lou Dewar wants him to do.
36:50On target by Michael Dewar.
36:52Hitting a lot of gloves though.
36:58If Dewar had been fighting like this from the opening round,
37:01I don't think we'd have been here right now.
37:03One or the other would have gone.
37:08Tate now starting to come loose from Dewar's glove.
37:11This very efficient referee, Hank Sisco, is going to have to stop and tear that off.
37:16Because that can flick in your eye, and that's damage.
37:18Let's say James Green has just about lost all the initials on the swipe down his trunk.
37:29Has an R remaining.
37:31When that falls off, it's the end of Dewar.
37:34And there's an A on the other side.
37:35That last round, folks, I had even because I saw Green in trouble,
37:43and then I saw Dewar in trouble.
37:46Keep him up, Green.
37:47Hold it.
37:48Keep him up.
37:49All right.
37:50Come on.
37:51All right.
37:52Okay.
37:53Come on.
37:55Just past the midway point.
37:57Round nine.
38:01Good right hand by Dewar.
38:03He tried that uppercut again.
38:06I'm amazed that corner's not telling them to go with those uppercuts.
38:09They're hitting him.
38:10They're hitting Green.
38:16There's the uppercut.
38:18Dewar has his power in that right hand.
38:29Dewar measuring Green.
38:30All right.
38:31Good recovery by Dewar, who looked in big trouble at the end of the eighth round.
38:37That tape can be a menace to Green's eyes.
38:40It flicks in there.
38:41And Duva's hollering at Cisco.
38:43Stopping and taking care of that tape.
38:44give it a note, Shelby Brown, but it's going to take care of that tape.
38:57Right by Green, again.
38:58A telling blow.
38:59He has been landing it successfully.
39:03Dewar stunned by a very, very hard left hook.
39:07By Green, followed up with a right hook.
39:09He blinked.
39:10It looked like he was trying to focus his eyes.
39:19For the first time, Green shows signs of tiredness.
39:24And another good round.
39:25So we've had two good ones after the applause over the first seven.
39:30Let's listen in on the corners.
39:33Breathe deep.
39:35Fishy, give me the sponge.
39:36Fishy, the bucket.
39:38Come on now, you can win this fight.
39:40Come on, you can get him out.
39:41You just sent him a good shot.
39:42Knock him out.
39:44Come on, Michael.
39:47Go out.
39:48You go to the sides.
39:50You got that?
39:50Yes.
39:51All right.
39:53Come on.
39:53Let's go.
39:57I don't want you to go to the sides because he's throwing his upper because he's in those hooks.
40:00You understand?
40:00You move right in.
40:01You see him open up with the hooks, you let it go.
40:03Come on.
40:03Let's go now, baby.
40:04Come on.
40:04Let's go.
40:06Punch him.
40:07You understand?
40:08Three minutes of solid punching.
40:11Yeah.
40:11Go over the top.
40:12Come on.
40:12You let this guy off the hook.
40:14Last and final round.
40:14Last and final round.
40:16Last and final round.
40:17Last and final round.
40:19Last and final round.
40:20Touch plug.
40:20The Fight Doctor scorecard has it.
40:2244-38 over 9.
40:25Last and final round.
40:25Touch plug.
40:26Touch plug.
40:26Touch plug.
40:26Touch plug.
40:27Come on.
40:27In terms of rounds, you have a 7-1 and a 1-even.
40:33And curiously, Dewar's corner said, come on, you're winning the fight.
40:38You need this last round.
40:39He does need the last round, but he needs it by a knockout to win.
40:42So, James Green right to the body.
40:54Where Dewar did not impress whatsoever in the first seven, he has certainly gained a little
40:59bit of credibility in the last two rounds.
41:01He's taken all of Green's shots, and he's fought back bravely.
41:06Left uppercut by Green.
41:08Getting it on Dewar.
41:12Still nobody fixed the tape.
41:14Finally, referee Hank Sisco, who has done an exceptional job.
41:20And the clock is stopped.
41:22We are just under a minute gone by.
41:24And this 10th and final round.
41:27This is the prelude to NBC Sports World, starting at 4 o'clock.
41:33And WBC heavyweight champion Larry Holmes will defend against Lucian Rodriguez.
41:39It's coming up later on here on NBC Sports.
41:49Good combination by Dewar McQueen right back.
41:51We've had no knockdowns in the bout.
41:57Green appeared to have Dewar on the verge at the end of round eight.
42:02But Dewar hung in.
42:05Come on, let's go.
42:12Come on, Dewar, get down.
42:13Michael Dewar, who had strong statements at the start of the bout, saying he would like
42:21to win this one for the pride of Jamaica.
42:24Dewar, one of three prospects to come out of Jamaica, along with world-ranked Trevor Burbick
42:29and Michael McCallum.
42:31But Michael Dewar came out silent over the first seven rounds of the fight.
42:37Well, they're certainly not going to be dancing to reggae over his prospects in Jamaica,
42:42but neither will they be playing a funeral dirge, because the last two rounds, he showed
42:46he can stay with a very furious green.
42:52Plus, a little bit of luck in this final round.
42:59Come on.
43:00A minute, Jimmy.
43:00A minute, Jimmy.
43:02A minute, Jimmy.
43:02A minute, Jimmy.
43:07Unless there is a sudden turn, which would mean a knockout by Michael Dewar, it'll be James
43:14Green with victory number 19 against two defeats.
43:22A little hot dog move by Green.
43:28And here's Green looking to finish with a flush.
43:31A flush of energy by Green.
43:41Final second.
43:43Dewar with the left hand.
43:47And that's it.
43:48And they continue after the bell.
43:52So, James Hardrock Green, confident of the victory, and there's no question about it.
43:59Set of running in the ring.
44:00We'll be back with the decision in a moment.
44:02James Green and Michael Dewar have just completed their 10-round junior middleweight bout.
44:06We're set for the decision.
44:07Let's go to the ring.
44:09Here's Ed Darien.
44:12Ladies and gentlemen, we have a unanimous decision.
44:18And the story as follows.
44:22Judge Peter Boscia, starring in 49-43.
44:27Judge Chris Pierce, scoring in 49-42.
44:40And the referee, Hank Sisko, scores in 49-41.
44:47And the winner, James Hardrock Green.
44:51So, James Green with a methodical victory over Michael Dewar.
45:03And James Green celebrating his victory.
45:07This is the final 30 seconds of the fight.
45:09A final burst of energy by Green.
45:12And the scoring, mirroring the fight doctor scorecard.
45:16He had it at 49-42.
45:18We'll be back to talk with Hardrock.
45:19By unanimous decision over Michael Dewar moments ago here in Scranton.
45:24The fight doctor is set alongside James Green.
45:27Let's go to the ring.
45:29Hardrock, that seven rounds, that was awful boring.
45:33Yeah, it was boring.
45:35I was trying to get him, get up to him.
45:36He kept moving side to side, running.
45:38And I was trying to cut the ring off on him.
45:40He was trying to throw me off.
45:41I was just stepping side to side, constantly moving.
45:43So, my manager, a little trainer, Bill, was telling me,
45:46cut the ring off on him at the same time.
45:47As I was trying to do that, he was holding me and grabbing me.
45:49All right.
45:50In the eighth round, things got exciting because you almost knocked him out.
45:53And then he got you in trouble as well.
45:55Yeah, well, I got a little carried away.
45:56You know, I still had him hurt.
45:58And my manager told me, he said, take my time.
45:59You know, it'll come.
46:00You know, don't rush it.
46:01And I still had him days hurt.
46:03I was just trying to finish him off right then and there.
46:06All right.
46:07There is no question, you're back.
46:09You are back from that surprising loss to Animal Fletcher.
46:12Is that the reason for that little hot dog move on the tenth round?
46:15Were you that happy?
46:16Yeah, I was very happy.
46:17You know, I told my manager, trainer, and also my family,
46:20that I was going to come back strong, you know,
46:22and they cut in the field my career, you know, anything done from me.
46:25And I just sit and go out there and do what I do best.
46:27Take care of business.
46:28Thank you very much and welcome back.
46:30Back to Marv Albert at ringside.
46:32All right, Ferdy, so James Green did indeed take his time.
46:36Running by unanimous decision over Michael Dua.
46:40Rodriguez, and you look at Rodriguez, he is a very small heavyweight fighter.
46:53Remember, he's the European champion.
46:54All those European heavyweights seem to be small by our standards
46:58because we have mammoth guys, and the biggest of our guys
47:01happens to be the champion Holmes, so he does have a problem with size.
47:04All right, let's take a look at the tab of the tape.
47:08Here are the stats.
