00:00Mr Ramchand appeared glum as his defence lawyer argued he should be allowed bail,
00:07telling the court he had no prior convictions and that he'd been a law-abiding citizen his whole life.
00:12But ultimately, bail was refused.
00:15Kim Ramchand's lawyer told the court today that her client mentally snapped after he was refused a meeting with the school's principal over his contract.
00:25Kim Ramchand is a teacher at Keesborough Secondary and the school went into lockdown yesterday following this alleged incident today.
00:32The teacher's bail has been refused.
00:34Police told the court today that they alleged that after taking the role in his class,
00:39he used a four centimetre knife to attack the school's principal, Aaron Sykes,
00:43causing minor injuries to the principal and held that knife to his throat.
00:47And they alleged that he was pulled away by the assistant principal,
00:51but that he then returned with a bigger knife and held it closely to the principal's face.
00:56Police allege it was an unprovoked attack spurt by Mr Ramchand finding out his contract wouldn't be renewed.
01:03His lawyer told the court that Mr Ramchand's account was that a door was slammed in his face
01:08when he attempted to stage a meeting with the principal regarding that matter.
01:12But that's disputed.
01:13Police say that that wasn't in the principal's statement.
01:16But this is when his lawyer says he mentally snapped.
01:19And today, police argued he shouldn't be let out on bail because he poses an unacceptable risk.
01:25His brother told the court he'd put up a 20k surety, but ultimately bail was denied.
01:31The magistrate told the court that there'd be nothing his siblings or wife would be able to do to stop him
01:37if he snapped again, and that the risk of any further risk eventuating was simply unknown.
01:44Theictions of the court that would is reported he could have been a 25k so theyvenge a number of travellers.
01:49No I misreads of the court or whoever ran him.
01:53How did he have to do that?
01:55What he said to say is that I wanted to keep doing nothing's case for his wife with a problem.
