Belgian police have raided the headquarters of the EU’s diplomatic service (EEAS) in Brussels, as well as the College of Europe in Bruges, as part of a widening fraud investigation led by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Three suspects have been detained amid “strong suspicions” of fraud linked to EU-funded training programmes for junior diplomats. The European Commission confirmed the raids but said it could not provide further details due to the ongoing investigation.
The probe focuses on alleged irregularities in a tender awarded during the 2021–2022 mandate for a nine-month EU diplomatic training programme. Authorities continue to examine whether EU funds were misused.
Stay tuned for the latest updates on this developing story from Brussels.
